By far, the worst service department I've ever encountered. When brought in for service on a Thursday, they didn't have the parts they thought, so rescheduled for the following Tuesday. Then, after three hours, haven't started and still do not know if they have the parts. Have to wait another two hour to find out if they have the parts. Which, again, they don't. But, they did come back with a $1,200 estimate to replace the tailgate struts (cost about 120 each, and nearly $1,000 to loosen and tighten 4 bolts). Bought my vehicle here and serviced it here exclusively until I discovered the PATHETIC, INEPT Service department never reset service status when they changed the oil, so I NEVER RECEIVED OIL CHANGE ALERTS. I took my 2019 Subaru outback in for maintenance. We discovered the DCM was placing a small drain on the battery causing us to be unable to start the car at various times. We had already replaced the battery twice in less than 2 years. We were recently able to diagnose and find the service bulletin on this issue ourselves. I can't say enough good things about this dealership. We were passing through Madison on a family visit when the Outback started showing abnormal coolant temperatures. We pulled into madison and the dealership on a saturday just as they were closing. They went out of their way to take care of us, arrange service and a loaner. They kept our car over the weekend and let us take the loaner back home to Illinois. Then they sent a driver down with our car (3 hour drive) to return the car and pick up the loaner. He was incredibly knowledgeable about Subarus but also how other cars in the market compared, he was never pushy or trying to upsell us-it truly felt like he wanted us to have the right vehicle for our situation. They schedule out a month or more and times are inconvenient for those of us who work for a living. They actually asked me if I had a day off so I could accommodate THEM, instead of the way them accommodating me. I had my Subaru for three years, it was a lease. I had great service in their sales department. I had a lot of questions and they answered all of them. They were all very nice, you don't always get great experience in the sales area. When it came to getting the oil changed on the car it was a completely different experience. The first time I went and got the oil changed on my Subaru it was a long wait. I was expecting this as it can take a long time. I was told my car would be ready in about an hour. After waiting three hours I was pretty angry. I went and asked how much longer the service would take and they would tell me another 30 minutes each time. If I would have been given a three hour wait I would have stopped by another time or went somewhere else. Every 6000 miles I dreaded coming back because I would get the same bad service. The representatives were rude and I would end up waiting three hours. Even after making appointments I was still left wondering how much longer my oil change would take. I ended up sending a letter just letting them know of my concerns and have not heard back. I would recommend the sales department but not the service department at this dealership. read more

The General Manager at Don Miller Subaru West reached out to me in response to this review. We were reimbursed for the battery on the vehicle. The issue with the navigation system was our own ignorance in not learning that the system cannot be used while the car is in any other gear than park. They hooked up the rear power outlet that was not hooked up on the initial repair and they repaired the rear power lift gate on the vehicle. They also performed a recall service on the starter. Now that they have installed an "express" lane its first come/first served for an oil change, went there midmorning on a Wednesday (typically an off time) and was told it was a minimum of a 2 hour wait. Service and Don Miller. An oxymoron. Kept appointment for manufactures estimated recall work of 1/2 hour on my Jeep Wrangler. Arrived with 2 service writers buried at their stands. No movement to vehicle /me. I approached and each tried to shuffle me off on the other ( no commission on recalls). Steve Fietz finally accepted me and said 2 hours cuz backed up. I complained about their lack of attentiveness and the delay. Rescheduled This time they said an hour at least. At 45 minutes I noticed the Jeep in the completed work area. Was told awaiting a little paper work 25 minutes later I confronted the same lethargic Advisor (S.F.) and reluctantly unburied the paperwork in 25 seconds with a perfunctory "apology ". Went to Don Miller to have my airbag harness replaced. Estimated time was 2-3 hours. Dropped my car off at 9 am and the job wasn't finished until 4pm. Seems like they tend to bite off a bit more than they can chew. However, Ryan was nice enough to take off 10%, and the shuttle driver gave me a ride home. Don Miller Subaru West has the worst service I've experienced. I stopped into the service center in early July to ask about a warranty replacement of my 2016 Legacy's windshield. Rich Johnson, the assistant manager of the service center took photos of the damage and said he'd talk to the warranty administrator the following day. It's September now and I haven't heard anything back. I've followed up with them 3 times and they just don't respond. I wouldn't shop with them again. read more

I'm afraid that I must add another disappointed review for Don Miller West service. Since we purchased a new 2015 Subaru Forester, we have been pleased with the car, but disappointed multiple times when encountering the Service Department. We have a long-time relationship with another service garage, but have needed to interact with the Don Miller service for exceptional items. A couple of recent examples: this summer, when the AC compressor failed, I assumed that the Subaru dealer would be the place for the repair. I was told that it would be weeks until it could be serviced. (in spite of having a large number of staff standing about.) My regular garage replaced it in a day. A recent front-end noise turned out to be a failed strut, a premature failure for a car with 50,000 miles. Don Miller's service adviser blamed it on Madison infrastructure and had no inclination to cooperate in paying for the "known" repair, though he did say it was "unfortunate." i'm having it repaired elsewhere. I am disappointed that the agency that sold us this car has had so little interest in providing needed maintenance. read more

I scheduled an appointment a few days in advance to test drive some cars because I knew Saturdays were busy. When I arrived on time to my appointment, my scheduled salesperson was busy assisting a walk-in. Every other salesperson was apparently busy, so I waited around. A half hour later, I still received zero assistance so I decided to leave. Subarus are very popular, and this dealership has apparently done away with customer service as a result. The service group at Don Miller has been an extreme disappointment to me. I have a 2010 Subaru Outback. Brought the car to Don Miller in November '21 to have a small engine miss diagnosed and hopefully repaired. After a day they called me to tell me my brakes were bad and it would be $2200 to fix the brakes. When I asked about the engine miss they said they couldn't figure that out. I asked them to replace spark plugs so I could actually work on the problem I knew I had. I did not do the brakes with them (which are still fine 5500 miles later). Got car back and the engine still had the small miss that continued to worsen through December. Took the car into a local shop and he diagnosed the miss as an ignition coil on cylinder two that was faulty. He replaced that and then through some fantastic mechanic work figured out that Don Miller had not tightened the number 6 spark plug correctly and it was working its way loose. This is why the engine miss got worse. I'm extremely fortunate this was found before the threads stripped or the heat escaping damaged the engine beyond repair. Decided then that I would never return to Don Miller for any engine service. Today (3/16/22) went to Don Miller to get a new key programmed and laser cut for the car. When I called they quoted me $188 for the parts, laser cut and reprogramming. A local lock smith wanted $195 for coming to my home. I figured with the lower price it was worth the drive over to Odana Road to get a genuine Subaru key. They did the key rework and then brought me the bill for $233. Service Rep could not explain where the $188 estimate came from. I wish I had just had the locksmith come to me and saved the gas and time. For me the moral of the story is that I have had enough Don Miller incompetence to last me a life time. Seems to me they only want to deal with newer cars with the easy routine maintenance. If you have an issue beyond changing oil and air filters find a component mechanic elsewhere. read more

The salesman who came out to help us started by arguing with my father about the condition of the wheels on the car we were looking at and whether they were ground down, which CLEARLY they were. When my father backed off and said that he wasn't going to argue with him about this, the salesman just said, "have a nice day" and walked back inside. I used to trust taking my car to a dealership over a local repair shop, as they should have techs that are specifically trained for Subaru and should be more competent, but I will probably never go back to DM Subaru. I brought my car in for a sticking clutch pedal and was told that the slave cylinder was bad and needs to be replaced and the clutch is slipping under load so I'll need a new clutch too. $1500 quote. I had a suspicion that possibly the bad slave was causing the slippage. It makes sense. I did some research and talked to some other mechanics and a bad slave cylinder could certainly cause the clutch to only partially engage and making it slip under load. I asked the service writer if this could be happening and he told me "No, I doubt that". Then I told him the clutch was replaced less than a year ago and he didn't really have anything to say about that. Sketchy!!! How could they miss something so simple?? Well probably because they want to steal all your money. Clutch slipping?!? Oh, you need a new clutch! No, we don't need to consider any other options because that's the most expensive one! Terrible. I ended up replacing the bad part myself (actually it was the master cylinder that was bad... they were wrong with the diagnosis as well). for about $150 total. I do not do business with this company. I have asked them not to send mailings to me yet they continue to send mailings to me. Hopefully they will quit harassing me with their junk mail. I tried calling Subaru of America to complain, but their automated system did not allow me to speak to a human, instead it started talking in some foreign language that I did not understand. With a system like they have it is apparent that they do not care about meeting the needs of the customer. They derserve zero stars or negative stars. I don't want to be harassed. Acquired a Subaru from Don Miller West in December 2017. Originally examined vehicles in their inventory and clicked a box next to one model for their internet price (i.e., "Get My Don Miller e-price") for this vehicle on their website. Instead, I received a phone call from a salesperson about visiting the dealership. I never received their "e-price", but instead, received an offer about $1000 higher than another area dealership's "e-price" after I arrived at the dealership, which I then presented to the salesperson. Because of doing some research I did get a substantial discount from their original offer, but be forewarned that Don Miller's invitation concerning receiving internet prices online may not be respected. In retrospect this has made me uncomfortable enough with my experience with them to seriously consider aquiring my next Subaru somewhere else. read more
