Working with Pete felt like working with a wonderful uncle who wanted to make sure I got the best car for me. He was incredibly patient and persistent in looking for the hard to find used car that I was looking for. I worked with many different dealers to find my car. For the second time, Smart Toyota rotated my tires and replaced the wheel covers incorrectly, making it impossible to put air in the tires. Not sure how to score my star rating. The service itself was really good -- on time, easy check in, prompt check in. However, the $16.35 "shop supplies" add-on fee to the bill was surprising. The fee was buried at the bottom of my 2 page bill. I called the dealership on this when I returned home. The service rep said it was a standard fee charged to all customers and covers this like towels ,rags etc. I only had an oil change and tire rotation. Those must have been some expensive rags! Hence the "shop supplies" = a 1 star rating. Why not just include this fee in the service price? read more

Came in to look at Tacomas. I knew what I wanted and I expect the sales person to be knowledgeable and sell me on what I want. This was NOT the case. The sales guy that came to us as we walked in was nice and greeted us. We explained what we wanted. He took us out to look at Tacomas. But seemed not real interested all of a sudden on helping us. Short answers, looking away, and quiet. We went inside to look at the catalog and I asked if he had any Trailhunters. He sis know what that was. So we decided to just leave. Not a very great first time experience. And, definitely not going to purchase a car from here. read more

Buying a car from Smart was relatively straightforward. However, their maintenance department earns them one star. They overbook their maintenance schedule, so if you make an appointment for 2pm you still have to wait 1-2 hours to get your car serviced. They do not honor their scheduled appointments. read more

I arrived at 7:17 am to drop off our car for an oil change, inspection, and brake replacement we had scheduled. After pulling in to the second of four lanes, I was approached by an employee who said, "We play follow the leader here." I had no idea what he meant by that comment, so I asked for clarification. He explained that the second lane was left empty and instructed me to pull in to the third or fourth lane. He could have led with that instead of trying to be clever or - better yet - there could be signs and/or stickers clearly indicating where customers should park their vehicles. Melissa asked me to join her so the work order could be completed. She explained that things aren't going as smoothly as they should because there are a lot of new people. She verified the oil change, but did not have the inspection or the brakes on the order. She added the inspection, then noted the brakes did not need to be replaced. During the conversation, she made a point to say the person who had previously suggested the brake replacement was not very good, should not have suggested the brake replacement, and no longer works at Smart. Apparently, all of this was somehow noteworthy, because she went to the trouble to mention it all a second time. During this conversation, another employee opened the nearby door and said, "I need the keys." I did not immediately realize he was talking to me, since he neither addressed me nor excused himself for interrupting. When we scheduled our appointment, we accepted the offer of free use of a rental car. Melissa had no record of this either, and suggested that I wait since the work should take no more than one hour. I explained that I would rather not stay, so she suggested that I wait in the sitting area and the shuttle driver would find me. As the four of us (driver Joe and three customers) were walking to the van, Joe asked if anyone was in a hurry. Nobody indicated that they were, which was followed by a bit of chit chat that included him saying, "I don't really care. I just like to make it seem like I do." During the drive, the conversation turned to police speed traps and the recently-lowered speed limits. Joe clearly indicated that he does not like the lowered speed limits even if it makes the roads safer, saying sarcastically, "2 miles per hour would be even safer." He followed that with, "I really do not like this mayor." I called Melissa at 11:04 am - more than two hours after the "no more than one hour" she said the work would take - to find out if the car was ready for us to retrieve it. She said she would find out and call me back in five minutes. At 11:27 am - again, more than the "five minutes" she said it would take - Melissa called. She said something about the person who was supposed to do the work getting called away or distracted, or something. The bottom line is that not only was the work not done, but it had also not even been started. At 1:04 pm - more than four hours after the work was promised to be done - I received a text from Melissa saying we could retrieve the vehicle. When we arrived, we approached the two women standing behind the desk and said we came to pick up our car. Neither of them greeted us or offered to take us where we needed to go, instead pointing and saying, "Anyone around the corner can help you." Upon greeting Melissa, she did apologize for the delay. She immediately followed up by again saying the person who was supposed to do the work got called away or distracted, or something. She said she "chewed him out," or something to that effect. Melissa then reviewed the work done, or not done in the case of the brakes, which gave here the opportunity to say - for a THIRD TIME - the person who had previously suggested the brake replacement was not very good, should not have suggested the brake replacement, and no longer works at Smart. If there is one employee who is not practicing high levels of professionalism and providing excellent customer service, that is acceptable to a point because that employee can be corrected and/or terminated thereby eliminating the problem. What exists at Smart is far worse, because management is clearly not demanding a high level of professionalism and the delivery of excellent customer service from ANY of the employees. read more

I've been going to Smart Motors since 2012. My household has purchased five (5) vehicles from Smart and every bit of maintenance has been performed by Smart. We have NEVER had an issue with sales or service and I have been very pleased with their service. I read these complaints and it seems many are tough to please. I mean if you cannot get out of your vehicle to get assistance you have issues. Proper scheduled maintenance is important, plan accordingly and expect not everything comes from a silver cloud with unicorns sprinkling pixie dust. read more

With the current president tariff policy going in to effect on April 1 We stopped in on Friday to look at a Hybrid RAV4 and they had one available coming in the next week or two. While they were getting us a trade in value on our 2015 Avalon with 138,000 miles on we found a Toyota Crown Signia on the showroom floor. The sales process at Smart motors was so smooth. Just sat at a Smart Toyota wanting an oil change. Waited 15 minutes and no one acknowledged I was there. Plenty of employees standing there doing nothing. After 10 minutes one of the employees yelled "Customer waiting at one Still no one approached my vehicle or spoke to me. Finally, someone approached the car, asked if I had been helped and told me there was an hour and a half. Customer service 101 - acknowledge your customers! I own a 2007 toyota 4runner and I trusted the Smart Toyota service team last week to replace my steering shaft, alignment, and serp belt swap. I couldn't be happier with the authenticity, warmth, and competence of each team member I encountered! Mariah scheduled the appointment and was truly fun to talk with; Ian received the truck and personally oversaw the slick texting method in place to track progress. Ian is the portrait of an exemplary Assistant Manager and tech-talking employee -- I felt quite comfortable placing my trust in him. Jeremy is clearly very good at diagnosing mechanical problems and explaining them in an easy to understand way. Finally, Michelle and Amy helped me with a free loaner and holy moly are these two angels - truly committed to a pleasant experience and soo fast with their hands and words. Visited Smart Motors Toyota to get my Toyota Rav 4 a maintenance check. The staff that greeted me were very professional and friendly. The estimated time was 1 hour for the oil change, brake/auto checks, and general maintenance checks. During the wait, I was shown the lounge room and was given complimentary beverages which was very nice. Overall, the service was fantastic, the check was efficient, and I was in and out of the facility earlier than the expected hour. Will definitely return for future maintenance checks and I recommend Smart Motors Toyota to anyone looking to get their Toyota serviced. read more

I wouldn't recommend, no attention to details and no follow though. I brought my car here several times as the Toyota app was indicating a problem with the headlights. The two trips were maybe 3 months apart, both times they kept my car overnight but I was not advised of this until after I had spend all day in Madison, I live almost an hour away. The first time they called stated "they didn't know what the issue was but had cleared the code and I could pick up my car." The second time they attempted to do the same thing but I pushed them to dig deeper. They kept the car a second night and ended up calling Toyota it was determined my car didn't have the headlights that the system was stating needed servicing and the whole ordeal was a software issue within the Toyota app. So lets get this clear, twice techs visually inspected my car, twice checked that headlights were operating properly on their Multipoint Inspection sheet. How can the front adaptive lighting system be functioning properly when my car does not have those kinds of headlights. Also note regular headlights and front adapting headlights look different, this was not caught by their "top techs" and who know who else multiple times. I fully understand this error could be overlooked once but I genuinely believe I would have been brushed off had I not pushed. Since I didn't trust their word I requested the warranty be extended, they of course declined this and offer to push corporate to cover it should I have this issue again. The issue I should never have because I don't have those headlights...how nice of you. They did offer a $100 gas card but that has yet to arrive and it's been about a month. read more

As seasoned Toyota owners we've had experience with a few dealerships, but smart motors takes the cake in horrible customer, service, false advertising, and downright lies. Had a bad customer service experience with this dealership back in 2016 so went elsewhere to buy a new vehicle. Stupidly, decided to give them another chance seven years later only to be led on & lied to. We ordered a vehicle and waited nearly a year only to have it sold from under us then told we would be #1 on the list & would have a vehicle a few months later... All we've heard since is crickets! We get that most dealers are in the business of making a quick buck, but unlike these money grubbing sheisters, some actually care about their customers. Last time the service dept lied when they told me that a service was performed and clearly not, and they claimed they looked up history so both lies and fraud. Customer service has been declining at Smart for years. They sell a great product but the knowledge and common sense approach is not part of their service department. My tires were rated at a 2, I was told they were in great condition. I went elsewhere to buy tires. I was told I needed brakes, made an appointment and told I didn't need brakes. I asked them to check my battery that was 5 yo, he said it should be fine. I insisted they check the battery, I did need a battery so it was replaced. I did speak to 2 service supervisors about the issues I experienced, they said they heard me, said it was a training issue. I was satisfied with interaction at the time. I have a hybrid, needed tires, the service tech showed me my options. I asked if they were suitable for a hybrid to maintain my high gas mileage. He said yes . As it turns out they're not, my gas mileage is horrible thank you Smart motors again ! Recently, had my tires rotated, felt the rear wheel thumping. Stopped to get it checked elsewhere. They tightened the Lugnuts.. I'm done!!! The trustworthy service is gone. read more

Should be a zero star option. Traded 2 cars in on 1 and they never completely paid off either of the cars leaving me with a balance. After multiple attempts and them saying they would take care of it they still have not. This occurred in 2021 and now in 2024 they said they will send me a check to cover it but they don't believe it's their fault. Well 12 business days later and still no check so I'm not surprised they didn't pay the banks within the 10 day pay off period. read more

My wife and I went to this dealership on Saturday. We will never be back. I'm a person of mixed race, and ask if they had both a 2022 Tundra and a Supra available. I was planning on ordering a Supra for my wife as I have sold my summer fun car. I was rudely told by a man that "if I want to see one I have to order one", and "I can look at the 2022 Tundra as they allow others to test drive it. But not us I guess. This sales person obviously doesn't want to sell a car, so the wife and I walk to look at the 4Runner as we have a new driver in the house. Another salesman wearing red and white gym shoes (so professional) told me the cars over "there" were sold. I said "can we look at them". He blurted "Don't touch them!" Really loud. I'm not a second class person. My wife and I can buy what we want from where we want. We were both dressed nicely and drove to the dealer in a newer SUV. Save your money and don't buy anything from this dealership. Either they don't like my race(s) or people in general. I'm guessing this is why there were only three people that didn't work at the dealership there on a Saturday afternoon, and two were myself and my wife. read more

Wow! After all the times I have been here and was ready to give them a 5 star review they f'd up big time! I took my 4Runner for an oil change + 90k service and didn't have enough time to get to get some rear diff and transfer case stuff done so I was told that they can do it for me when I brought my 4Runner back to change my brakes. It was suppose to be 1.5hr work, which ended up taking longer on their part so I wasn't able to get the last few things done. When I came back to get my brakes done (later on in the SAME week) I was upcharged $170 for the service that wasn't able to be completed earlier in the week just because I said I don't tow a lot, so it's only free if you say you do tow a lot. What a trick question and lack of decency on this man's part who was "helping" me. IF THEY ASK YOU IF YOU TOW WITH YOUR VEHICLE YOU BETTER JUST SAY YES OTHERWISE THE SERVICE IS EXTRA $$$ Unbelievable!!!!! I ended up having to pay an extra $170 for something that's done for free and would've been done for free earlier in the week, had they had time. Now they've left me in a bind, this was my favorite go-to place for my service and now I'm totally uncomfortable going back. They do a great job (friendly staff, great facility, clean) and I wish I could give them 5 stars, but it completely blows me away that this incident occurred today after faithfully bringing my vehicle in to this location. read more

I bought a Mazda2 with 124K back in April of this year. Now with 129,600 Kelly Blue Book says if I sold it myself I could only expect to get a little over $4000. This is excessive profiteering. At least they gave me two "complimentary" oil changes and tire rotations with the purchase. I emailed them about the excessive price versus the value of the vehicle but got no reply. In the email I told them how insulting it was to call the extra service complimentary after excessively pay too much for the car. Ray didn't pressure me into buying a vehicle, but instead, worked with my budget and my wants in regards to a vehicle. What was supposed to be a test drive turned into a purchase. Ray was patient, knowledgeable, and was willing to assist me in all aspects of the process. Ray cares about his reputation and keeping the Smart Motor's name honest. I arrived around 11:30 on a weekday in my little Scion clown mobile and dropped it at the Express Service bay. As instructed, I proceeded to the very high class customer waiting area. For my first course, I nibbled on a bag of popcorn. I made such a mess on the floor I cleaned it up myself. The popcorn was toothsome, warm and just like popcorn oughta be .And full of much-needed fiber, of course. Second course was a tough choice between goldfish and dry Cheerios. Thinkin it may be too juvenile to eat dry Cheerios with my hands, I went for the goldfish. Not sure if these were wild or farm-raised, but they sure were tasty. I needed something to wash things down, so I proceeded to the self-serve fridge which was full of fresh water and sodas. A vintage 7oz. Ginger Ale turned out to be just the right companion for my food choices. Time to refresh the palate. Amongst the fruit choices, I went with the apples, fresh and crisp and seductive as they looked. Just the ticket to prepare me for "cookies a trois," one oatmeal, one chocolate chip, and one shooga. Needed some coffee as accompaniment, and sure enough there's a Latte machine. Last sip of that Latte, I hear my name called. The car is ready in 1/2 hour. No charge. And I am outta there. How often do you leave a dealer service area without paying a cent? And with a free four-course lunch. Doesn't get much better than that, my friends. read more

Ugh, how are they at 3.5 stars? They are the WORST. I took my car in for a check engine light. They told me that I needed a fuel line system replacement to replace the gas cap and the line to the tank because there's an emissions leak which is what is causing the check engine light. The fix is $500. Okay. Five days later, the check engine light come back on. They say, no no, the issue is not with their work or how they installed the fuel line, but instead it's now the charcoal canister that's throwing the check engine light. Another $500 fix. Uh, I think not. Was a new fuel line system even necessary then? Was that what was throwing the check engine light or was it the charcoal filter? "Both," they claim, but for some reason they couldn't diagnose the charcoal filter the first time around? Hey look, I get it. Sometimes emissions codes are hard to diagnose. It's hard to know what exactly is the issue as there are lots of place in an old car that could cause a slight leak. But they never at an point expressed this to me. They never said, "look, we think it's the fuel line system. It's a $500 replacement. But it might not be that. It could be something else, but this is our best guess and we won't know for sure until we replace it. Do you still want to do this? By the way, this is not critical for your car to continue functioning" or anything even close to that. They were just looking to make a sale and figured that withholding information was the best way to do so. Took my car to another mechanic and he says, "one of the codes is that the gas cap doesn't pressurize the way it's supposed to. You probably didn't need a whole new fuel system. A new $20 gas cap might've fixed the issue." Take your car somewhere else. I recommend Jensen Auto. Go to a mom and pop shop where their name is on the business and they take pride in what they do rather than the conglomerate dealership. read more

I've been to Smart a couple of times to use their service department. The first time was to get the heat shield under my car first temporarily re-fastened and then replaced (exploding gas tanks are a real drag). The service staff was nice and didn't talk down to me (even though I have literally no idea what's going on when it comes to cars). They were able to temporarily attach the existing shield so that I could still use my car until the part came in. Once it did I was in and out fairly quickly and I haven't had any problem with it since. They also did a complete diagnostic run of the car and let me know what was good, what would need replacing in the future, and what was in need of immediate attention. The next time was for an airbag recall. It did take forever from the time Toyota sent me the recall letter to when I was able to actually get it repaired (six, maybe more?) but I don't think Smart was in control of when they got the replacement parts. It was a couple of months between when Toyota mailed the update saying to "call and schedule an appointment today" and when Smart was accepting appointments, though. At my actual appointment service was quick (it only took an hour) and the person who did the repairs was able to check my horn that had stopped working recently and give me a quote for replacement (which was crazy - $150 to replace it; I ended up doing it myself for $15 with a replacement horn from an auto parts store). Going to Smart for service is expensive, but they lay out a nice waiting room so you can wait in style. There's TV, WiFi that's reliable and fast enough to do work on, several different types of chairs, tables, and desks, plus drinks and snacks ranging from fresh fruit to fresh-baked (though not homemade) cookies and coffee and soda and more. On Mondays they have free manicures and on Tuesdays they have free chair massages. I've sadly never been able to snag an appointment on either of these days, but I'll keep trying to make it happen if I have to go back. read more

Day 1: I had a scheduled basic service appointment for tire and exhaust inspection for 11:30am. Arrived at 11:10am and was told they'd look at it same day. 5pm rolls around with no call. I call and they say it's still getting worked on. Got a taxi there only to find out they haven't even looked at it yet. They offered to provide me a loaner car but then found out they were all taken too. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. I went here because I was in need of maintenance and my battery light had also recently come on. They told me they fixed the car and everything was fine and the total cost came to over $600 but the battery light still on after they serviced it. Less than two hours later my car was dead on the side of the road and I had to pay $150 to tow it back to toyota just for them to try and charge me another $900+ for a battery and alternator and they wouldn't even cover the cost of the tow even though it they risked my safety by telling me my car was safe when it wasnt and after I had already spent HUNDREDS there just hours before. The technicians are incompetent and you can't trust this establishment to fix your car. I highly recommend you find somewhere else to go because this place will end up costing you hundreds more in the long run and will risk your safety. read more
