I scheduled a service appointment with Zimbrick VW of Middleton because my engine was making some odd noises when idling, and also didn't seem to be running 100% smooth at highways speeds. I had traced the issue to the VVT solenoid (AKA cam magnet) which I had already replaced once, and suspected the issue was coming from that. They proceeded to quote me over $5000 for 4 different repairs. After doing some research, I concluded that 2 of those repairs (which would have totaled somewhere around $3400) were completely unnecessary and they were just trying to upsell me. For the actual repair relating to my VVT solenoid (and oil spool valve) they quoted me $1000. After looking up the repair I quickly realized that was very overpriced, as the repair was essentially removing 3 bolts, popping two parts out, and replacing them. So I asked if I could just buy the parts and do it myself (which I actually didn't do and decided to buy online, because their parts were also overpriced - $500 at the dealer vs $278 online for the same OEM parts). I did have them move forward with a separate repair they flagged, which was new tires and wheel alignment ($1000, which I will admit was a decent price). However, they then charged me an additional diagnostic fee "because I didn't move forward with service"... even though I paid them $1000 for new tires. When I initially dropped the car off I signed for the diagnostic fee, and I explicitly remember reading that they waive the diagnostic fee if you move forward with service. However, they explained to me that my tires were under a "separate diagnosis" and that the tires didn't count or fall under the "diagnostic fee". Overall I left feeling like this place doesn't care about their customers and just wants to make money. read more

Very happy to write a nice review for the great experience I had at Zimbrick Auto Group. Was in the market for a specific Grand Cherokee trim model and they had one. You never know what kind of treatment you're gonna get when you walk in looking for a used car. I met with Roy Fenn and immediately liked his demeanor and professionalism. We test drove the car, and Roy was knowledgable and helpful. The car was in excellent condition but they had missed one blemish spot when they detailed/prepped it. I didn't make the deal immediately only because I was concerned about the mileage. But the car was i such good condition and I trusted Roy so I called back and told them I'd take it. Went back up a couple days later to pick it up. Roy had the car saved inside and out of the weather, so it would look perfect when I arrived. He also had that extra blemish taken care of when when I returned without me asking him to do it. On to the financing with Business Manager Mike Oleniczak. This again is where it gets dicey in most dealerships. Not here. Mike was outstanding. A strait shooter and a professional just like Roy. He got me a market best interest rate with no haggling, and a very good extended warranty, again with no haggling. Normally this would be the end of a very good experience. But on the drive home, I sensed a small vibration at upper highway speeds. ( I tend to drive freeways in the 80's). Used cars with heavy mileage are sold "as is" and so no warranty. I called up Roy and he put me in touch with another excellent Zimbrick employee, Nate on the service side of the Acura dealership. Nate was again a top professional; He set up a repair appointment and got me a great loaner at no charge. They found a slightly bent rear rim. They got it fixed in a couple days, I brought back the loaner, the vibration gone, and no charge for the repair! So when you think about it, they went above and beyond, and I had a great experience in all 3 sections of the Zimbrick Auto Group: Sales, Finance, and Service. When all 3 pieces of an auto business have such professionalism and deliver such a solid experience, you know they care about culture in that company. So go see Roy Fenn if you need a quality used car and don't want the normal BS of most dealerships. And if you need financing or want to go extended warranty, Mike will really take care of you there. Nice Work All Around Guys! ONE FINAL NOTE: One of the reasons I went to this dealership to begin with: THEY HAVE ZERO ADD-ON MYSTERY FEES. Many dealers add on fees for prep fees, service fees, detail fees, etc. These fees add up to thousands and then the great internet price you saw is now crap. This is my second service failure with Z VW. The first time was with the body shop where they kept my car for a full 31 day month to do a simple trunk lid replacement. This time the service dept. bungled an air bag replacement , twice to date. Called to replace the recalled air bag. Made an appointment. Day before they cancelled. Air bag on back order, they will order it and contact me. Now , months later , I call to find out they have no record of my order, they can replace it in 10 days. What are the chances? read more

Our 2016 Sportwagen had the emergency brake fail in 2017, and it was fixed under warranty. At the time, we were told that the techs had never seen it happen before, but they replaced the assembly. Recently, it happened again, after the car had been already parked, and my car rolled out of my driveway into the street while I was in the house. My 4-year old daughter had been playing in the driveway 10 minutes before that. When I brought it back, it was diagnosed with the same problem, and again I was told that the current tech had never seen this before. I asked on the phone how to ensure this doesn't happen again, and whether something wasn't fixed quite correctly the first time, and was given radio silence on the phone. I literally had to say, "Hello, is anyone there?" I was then told that the issue was 100% fixed correctly the first time, with no possibility that it wasn't. Considering this has happened twice on the same car, and is clearly not a wear and tear part, I don't know how he could possibly say that with 100% certainty. I was not at all expecting this to be fixed for free, but I was expecting some acknowledgement of the massive safety risk I am now under with this having broken twice, and some sort of assurance that this would be fixed correctly this time. I am just lucky that this didn't break on a hill, or in a public area. I took the car elsewhere to have it fixed, but Zimbrick had done a brake fluid change while it was there, and the new mechanic found brake fluid all over the transmission and firewall from the brake fluid change that was done just hours before at Zimbrick. read more

I saw the promotions for the Clean Diesel event in April; I went in to the dealership about mid-afternoon on a Saturday to inquire about more information. Tim Regan was my Sales & Leasing Consultant; he asked me about my driving habits and needs and then gave me suggestions on what the best car to fit me would be. During the test drive, Tim was friendly, personable and gave me information about the car, the company and himself personally. I decided to purchase a 2014 Jetta. Tim knew I was in the middle of hellish week as busy season was wrapping up at work. He was patient with my lack of free time and worked around my schedule to get paperwork signed. I took the car home that night. The next day, Tim, came to my work place (bringing me my favorite Starbucks drink!) to pick up the car and take it back to the dealership for cleaning and detailing. When Tim brought back my shiny, clean car, he spent a hour with me, walking me through all the features, explaining the little details and answering all my questions. I was so comfortable with him and even happier with my purchase. I have now had the car a week and I could not be happier with the car and and my positive Zimbrick experience. read more

I've been bringing my VW's here for nearly 8 years...first my wife's 99 passat wagon and my 04 passat. Last year, we bought a jetta sportwagen from them, largely because of the quality of the service we've gotten from the service department. We've had to face some pretty large repair bills at times but, I've felt they have been fair and done quality work. There have been a few hiccups but, the service folks have always been accommodating and flexible to help work through things. I have tried taking my cars to other shops a few times but, honestly, the price savings weren't that great and I have received more reliable service from the dealer.... hint: If you need a lot of work done, plan ahead and ask for a loaner car. Bought our car here. At first it seemed like a good experience but after we got the car home, things took a turn for the worse. For starters, we noticed a chip in the windshield a few hours after we picked up the car. We called them to tell them and see if they'd fix it, since it was pre-existing. They only referred us to call "their guy" that does their repairs. Well, we called "their guy" and after 3 days of playing phone tag, my husband and I ended up taking it to Safelite on our own. Then, the transmission started being weird. Shifting on the car was acting up, and the trans felt like it was slipping when we would put the car in reverse. The RPMs would get really low. At this point we had only owned the car for like 3 weeks... And it only had 24k miles on it. So again, we called Zimbrick to see if they could do something. Long story short, we had to pay $120 out of our own pockets to get the car "diagnosed" at a dodge dealership.And then we were told nothing was really wrong with it, but they noticed the trans fluid was low. Zimbrick replaced the trans fluid for free. Big friggin deal. So then after all this, I take the car for a standard oil change at Sears and the guy asks me if I'd like a new air filter. He showed me the old one and it was black as night. Why didn't Zimbrick do an oil change/inspection before putting the car for sale? This makes me feel like Zimbrick only makes their used cars look cosmetically good enough to sell... And they skip out on the internal aspects. I still love my car. But I won't buy from Zimbrick next time. That's for sure. read more

Polite people, nice facilities; poor service. . . 10 days after replacing my pads at Zimbrick Middleton, one wheel's brake's would randomly heat to where it glowed and emitted a burning smell. I was informed my caliper had broke and needed to be replaced, at at a cost of over $400. I argued that an incorrectly re-set brake would be a more logical explanation, but Zimbrick held firm that a caliper was the only explanation. . . sure enough, another mechanic reset the brake and I have had no reoccurrence of the problem for three weeks. I informed Zimbrick Middleton of their misdiagnosis and attempt to sell me an unnecessary yet expensive part and have had no response in two weeks. . . . Update: I was contacted. They were good enough to reimburse my expenses at the other mechanic, which I appreciate. read more

I recently bought a new Golf GTI here. At first the experience was a little odd - I'd made an inquiry via the internet in response to an ad that I saw about some kind of closeout sale. I got responses - in fact, I got them from three separate people, including one from the other Zimbrick VW dealer in Madison. I'm glad they cared enough to respond, but it was a bit overwhelming and seemed disorganized. The closeout sale ad that I'd responded to apparently was some internet lead generator which was unaffiliated with Zimbrick, so I guess I can't fault them for that. I stopped in one afternoon out of the blue and talked to a sales rep, who was more than happy to show me the interior of the car I was interested and even offered a test drive right then. I didn't have time to drive it at that exact moment, but he didn't pressure me to schedule one for later, which I appreciated. He doesn't work at the dealer any more unfortunately, but Jay was excellent to deal with throughout the whole process. Down to earth, friendly, and definitely not condescending when I had questions about the car. Perhaps it's because we grew up near each other, which we found out as we were talking while checking out the car. We need more people in the car business like Jay, not fewer. Alex is now our contact there, and so far so good. He was helpful in arranging the window tint that we'd paid for. He even went so far as to personally drive me to work after I dropped the car off one morning. We'll see how the service department responds when we finally need them (hopefully a long time from now), but so far this is the best car experience I've ever had. read more

Recently bought a pre-owned 2009 Eos. Worked with Doug Marshall. He was quickly able to "read" us and introduced us to a model, which I,quite frankly, did not know existed. Within 48 hours, with Doug's description of the car and it's features, I owned one. He was the consummate salesperson, working out the details of the deal, getting the car ready, etc. During the final walk-through, I even commented, " Boy, you guys think of everything." This review is for the service department only. Service adviser was unable to give me a price on the basic service my car was scheduled to receive (new tires). I got an email later noting that I turned down an alignment, which was in fact never offered (I should've remembered myself to ask for one, I know, but that's different than refusing it). Service adviser spent a lot of effort trying to get me to agree to an additional service (unrelated to the one I brought the car in for) that i politely refused a couple times. He said they'd just keep trying to sell it to me on subsequent visits, so I think there just won't be a subsequent visit. read more

I brought my 2004 VW Golf in to have the AC repaired. The car was not purchased at Zimbrick and I had hoped the repair would be covered by the extended warranty. The problem my car was having turned out to be somewhat of a mystery, solved on day two by the shop foreman. I greatly appreciated that they were willing to work with the third party warranty company, kept me informed, provided me with a ride to and from work and then a loaner car. Typical dealership. They know the car well (I should hope so) but every repair is extremely expensive. You can usually do better to go to a local mechanic. We needed a new antenna for our Jetta... $50. Yeah, no thanks, I bought one on ebay for $11. They do have loaners which is nice, and a nice little waiting room area with free coffee and WiFi, but the location is bad (way far out in middleton, not near any public transport) and the prices are just absurd. read more
