Our absolute favorite spot in town. The owners and their family are just the sweetest kindest people and the food is absolutely to die for!

My husband and I had dinner here a couple of nights ago. Food was excellent and he loved the shrimp dish he had. Very attentive service and friendly. I had a chimichanga and it was delicious. By far the smallest the smallest burrito I've ever paid $8 for. Not happy at all. It would probably cost 20 cents to double the contents in the burrito but they'd rather rip people off than to make people happy. I decided to try this place, in normally go to MI Pueblo. For the exact same price I get literally twice the size of burrito. Maybe more. Sometimes I struggle to eat the whole burrito at Mi Pueblo. Would not go here again. Taste was not bad. My daughter and I stopped in here yesterday for first and last time. The food wasn't good. My daughter had the bean and cheese burrito and horchata that she didn't care for. I had taco and chili relleno. Taco was el pastor and was good chili relleno was terrible. It was hard and had a wierd taste way to much cheese. Horchata was to sweet. We have been coming here for years and truly consider it a treasure. Their Chicken Mole is one of the best. My husband likes ceviche but without onions and they make it that way for him. Came here one time for a chili relleno burrito. It was barely warm. Maybe the hot plates needed to be on a higher temp. Also the marguerita I got tasted like straight lime juice. They dont have Cointreau or even triple sec only a neon green sweet sour looking mix. So I asked for just tequila, lime & Grand Marnier. Unfortunately it tasted like straight lime juice & was over $10. Asked for a little more Grand Marnier to balance the lime bit she only put a dash which didn't make a difference. Couldn't drink it. I do not know why I have not reviewed before. I am a local, so to me this is absolutely the best Mexican food on the Eastside! The staff is always friendly, the chips and salsa (3 different choices) are always good and plentiful (especially the green sauce). I am a creature of habit so I always get the super burrito (carne asada) which is way too big for me (but I always finish it, burp!) People I go with get an array of foods and they always enjoy them. It's too bad the staff is rude and aggressive because for the most part the food is good. For the first half of our time there I thought "awesome, we found our new local Mexican food spot. It reminds me of one of my favorite spots I grew up going to in Fremont. The prices are reasonable, staff is friendly, and the food looks good" but that ended up going south. I went here with my family today and left in complete shock because of how insane the staff is. Everything was fine at first, we ordered our food and that included a ground beef taco my husband ordered on the side. He took ONE bite of it and realized there were refried beans in it. No where on the menu does it say their hard tacos have refried beans in them. He doesn't like refried beans on tacos so he set it aside and kept eating his other food. He politely let the waitress know he didn't want it and she took it away. There was no problem, everything was fine. A few minutes later a guy walks up to us and agressively asked if everything was ok. We were thrown off a bit because he abruptly started interrogating us about said taco and schooled us on the history of their tacos (we've been putting beans on tacos for 21 years!!!") Ok, thanks angry man-child, sorry we don't know the history of your menu. I'll study up on that. My bad. Anyways, the check comes and there were 2 discrepancies. (1. They charged us for the taco that had one bite taken from it but took 40% off of it. This move reminds me of something a restaurant on Kitchen Nightmares would try and pull. Gordon Ramsay would be p*ssed but Gordon also wouldn't dare try and serve refried beans on a hard taco. He knows better (2. My husband's meal was a few extra dollars than what the menu said. As a former server, I was appalled they tried pulling this off. We quietly sat there, waiting for the waitress to come back to ask her about it. We never even got a chance to ask her before she ripped some small printed notice off the wall (near the entrance) and showed us how they've had to raise prices due to the pandemic. That is not a problem, it's to be expected. Times are rough and small businesses need to do this to survive. I support it, I want to see small businesses thrive. Even with the small price hike, the price wasn't bad at all. The food was worth it, I'd be willing to pay the few extra bucks to have it again. However, don't give out menus with old prices or at least give the paying customer a head's up. Even a printed out and taped on notice to the menu would be much appreciated. I know that's not an impossible task. ONE tiny typed out 10 pt font notice above a taped up menu on a wall when you first walk in is not sufficient. Restaurant workers are hard working and efficient people, but apparently these clowns aren't capable of taking the extra 30 seconds to print out and tape up notices near the tables. You already have menus taped up on the walls so don't worry about looking tacky cuz ya already do. I digress. The (once polite) waitress grabbed some other woman who yanked the receipt out of my husband's hands while yelling at him that we're not welcome back (again, we barely said anything to them at this point) because she overhead us asking about the prices as she walked by (we were talking to each other, quietly and not involving anyone else). I was at a loss for words and was trying to get our original server's attention (again I was being polite about it) because I was genuinely curious about the 40% off the taco but they wouldn't give me a chance to speak because they were attacking me saying "we have cameras, you're never welcome back! You can't eat half of a taco and expect to not have to pay for it!" Ok great, then use those cameras to look back and see that my husband took ONE BITE of the taco and sent it back. It's too bad the staff are a bunch of psychos because the food is actually pretty good. We've been in Petaluma for a little over a year and have had nothing but good experiences with everyone here. This is the first negative experience I've had with customer service and it was legit sad. I think highly of Petaluma and it's citizens. They are a horrible representation of this amazing city and don't deserve the success they've had. I am by no means a high maintenance person, I'm super chill and down to earth. I've worked in customer service since I was 15 and could not imagine ever treating someone they way they treated us. Just because you're not good at your job, doesn't mean you get to treat people horribly. PS the first time I tried coming here, it was an hour before their closing time and a server was breaking down the outside seating. I didn't even get through the door when the angry man-child said "we're obviously closed, you're going to have to go somewhere else!" I never even got a chance to say hi, I just turned around and walked out. Googled a place with Menudo and we decided to try Don Pancho's, not disappointed one bit. The Menudo tasted home made and a really good portion for the price. I acompanied my my Menudo with a Michelada de Negra Modelo one of the best. Good Homemade Menudo is hard to find, thankfully we found our place. Will be back for sure!!! We've lived in Petaluma for about 3 years now and this is still our favorite restaurant in the area. I've always ordered the chicken nachos and hubby switches it up and loves everything he's tried. They remember us every time we come in and make sure to always give our daughter a lollipop before we leave. Just can't beat it! 10/10 recommend! read more

Go here immediately. At 10:30 on Saturday morning, your choices are generally limited. Around here, you've got breakfast joints, fast food if you're desperate, or diners. OR DON PANCHOS, who wisely opens his delicious doors at 10:00 a.m. Had I realized this before, I'd have told you sooner. They have breakfast stuff that's served all day (the typical list), but here's what I got that made me so excited: 1. Red salsa is really good and not typical...has kind of a cracked black pepper flavor in there, and has been on my mind ever since. 1a. Green salsa is very wet and vegetal. It's not good with chips so much, BUT is freaking delicious on the cheesy, creamy stuff...cuts through the fat, creating the illusion that you're NOT eating something absurdly caloric. 1b. Spicy beans come with the chips also. 2. CARNITAS FAJITAS - perhaps I'm just unobservant, but I don't see this too often. Carnitas, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, fat tummy. 3. Husband reports guacamole unusually good, credits same black pepper flavor. They now serve hamburgers with an array of styles, Husband will be going back to investigate. I am privately delighted that they're a couple doors down from Weight Watchers. Maybe because of the Don Panchos Fries, which will send you straight there. The Don Panchos Fries are covered in nacho-ish cheese goop, carne asada, and sour cream. Don't try to pretend you wouldn't have one if someone at your table ordered them. They're GREAT with that green salsa. They will also kill you quickly. Alas, DP has totally struck out on rice and beans...however, amending them with some salsa helped. read more

Although the location isn't great, Don Panchos is truly one of the best spots for Mexican food in P-town. The service is warm and friendly. Drinks are refilled before they become empty, and the food is awesome! During dinner service they bring a side of their special beans with the salsa and chips. This special dip is not on the menu and not available until after 5 PM. Totally addicting. The carne asada plate and horchatas are a must try. read more

Don Pancho's is a solid 4 stars. Literally stumbled upon this place while driving back to the bay area after a day in the redwoods.... First, I was sicker than a dog when I came in. I had some sinus thing going on and I couldn't stop sneezing. I sat down and the VERY NICE waitress came by with 2 wonderful salsas and warm refried beans and a basket of chips. I could actually taste the salsas.. really fresh and flavorful. I wanted to eat this stuff by the spoonful but my sister wouldn't let me. Anyway, I ordered a hot water with lemon. She brought that out to me immediately (no charge on the bill!) Then she suggested the chicken soup and that's what I was going to get anyway... It was very good. It was a nice clear broth with cilantro, onions and rice and 3 pieces of chicken floating in it. 1 leg, 1 wing and 1 thigh. I think they use the breast for their other entrees. My sis got 2 chicken crispy tacos, piled on her salsa and she said they were great. The refried beans and rice were good. She said they could have used a bit more flavor - but that just shows that they're not drowning their sides in lard! I like that. Anyway, the VERY VERY kind waitress brought me more hot water and lemons. She was genuinely concerned for my well being. Told me to try and breathe in the steam from the soup.. it was quite funny. She got me to laugh even though I felt like cr ap. And said the squeezed lime in the soup will help me heal, too... If I'm ever passing thru Petaluma again, I'll be back here... read more

i dont understand how people think this is actually really delicious. i came here based on the reviews it received. unfortunately, i was dissappointed. i ordered lengua and a carnitas chimichanga. now usually i am used to a chimicanga being crispy but these were soggy. the beans and rice that came with it were barely warm and the tortilla chips were stale. lts a small burrito that had mainly beans and rice and LITTLE meat for $8. staff is friendly so thats a plus. maybe the drinks are that good that it overcompensates for the less than mediocre food. will never come here again. I've eaten here a number of times and will continue to go back. First, the service is great! Everyone is always friendly and seem to really enjoy their work. There is a full bar, although I usually get the horchata - which is creamy and cold. Yesterday I had the fish tacos. $2.95 each. I ordered the crispy version - you can also get soft. Two large pieces of fried fish, and a creamy slaw served on the side. A la carte and two were plenty for lunch. We gave them a try and after a great experience we were hooked. It only took about two more lunches before the great waitresses knew our orders (my buddy always gets the same thing). Had a pretty okay dining experience here. It was very slow when we got there and we were waiting on one more person. We were waiting 10-15 minutes on then and our server never came to ask us what we wanted to drink. Once our last person was there it took another 10 minutes for our server to finally come over and ask us if we were ready to order. Still hasn't asked us if we even wanted water.
