After sampling a litany of Don Ricky products, I've arrived at 4 stars. It wasn't without some tribulations along the way. * Cheese balls - were kinda doughy. I've had lighter ones at other places, and cheesier-tasting ones. Not really a fan. * Dessert bread - I like. It smelled burnt but tasted just fine. Not too sweet but unmistakably not just bread. * Bread croissant roll things - There was cheese on each end, which was really promising, but there wasn't much cheese in the middle and it was kinda overcooked. Granted, I was there at the end of the day, so they might be cheesier when fresh. * Blood sausage: That took me back to South America. That is some authentic stuff right there. Get two. * Corn arepa: A bit dense, but again, it was late in the day, so it might be lighter when fresh. * Cheese/jam pastries - Good stuff. There's enough jam but not quite enough cheese, it just sorta sat in the middle of the sea of jam. * Ham sandwich on croissant - Fine. Wasn't that big but wasn't that expensive, so I can't complain. Nothing remarkable about it, just a good simple sandwich. * Loaf of bread - I like. It's a pull-apart loaf, so you can grab a section and just munch on the tasty soft bread. I may have eaten an entire loaf just now, and it may have redeemed the 4th star in this review. There were some hits and some misses, but overall it's a nice bakery and a place I could see myself returning to next time I'm in Elizabeth. read more

BEST PAN DE YUCA IN NJ. This cute little spot has been running for over 30 years. It wasn't up until recently the father retired and sold it to his daughter- who is a complete sweetheart. She reminds me very much of her father, a very charismatic gentleman. Recipe remains the same, location had a huge makeover- its more modernized now. I am a fan of this place. Me and my partner were in the neighborhood as we were driving back to CT and we happened to stop on this street and spotted Don Ricky's Bakery. A small and neatly maintained bakery that specializes in some of the authentic Colombian delicacies amongst some loafs of bread which are also based on how they make it back in Colombia. The owner Sandra Rojas was helping us and I should say, she was so nice that she gave us suggestions on what are authentic items from the country and helped us picking up some delicious stuffs. They have freshly baked bread loafs and some of them have cheese stuffed in them, but my favorite delicacy is the torta negra colombiana - a dark chocolate cake with dried fruits and soaked in wine (a very different version of a traditional fruit cake). A very cozy place and some authentic items from Colombia. Oh another thing to mention is that, they ship any item to you. This place use to be my go to place for cassava bread until I got an incredibly hard and old batch of bread. The next time I went, I mentioned it to the owners by kindly asking they give me the freshest batch the had and they immediately attacked me verbally. Both the owner and his wife are beyond rude and disrespectful. I was truly in awe of their behaviour, I felt so attacked. It was not only incredibly unprofessional, uncomfortable but also very disrespectful. They're both rude and their bread sure as hell isn't worth going. read more

Maybe it was a bad idea to eat my Saturday special at a bakery. Their beans were awful. Steak was sooooo dry and seemed like it was already premade just warmed up . Basically never get a meal from here. Oh I almost forgot to mention if you want hard rock over cooked chicharon get it from here. It almost broke my teeth. NEVER AGAIN. read more
