We went to Don Rigo's for late lunch on cinco de Mayo a busy day of service for them I am sure. Was waited on by Mario ( our favorite waiter and friend) he had a table waiting for 12 family members that had came from out of state or driving for hours to get there. Food was delicious with large portions, which you always get at this Don Rigo location in the Amelia Krogers parking lot. Just so you know, families that need a break money wise these days! Good service but low quality food. My husband deemed it the worst Mexican food he has ever had - and that's saying a lot since he likes Tex-Mex restaurants, in addition to the authentic places. I prefer authentic but usually choose something like street tacos in the chains. The complimentary Chips & Salsa came out immediately and they were ok. The chips were warm and fresh. The salsa was ok. I ordered the Chorizo Tacos. My husband ordered the Chile Poblanos with Shrimp and a beer. Neither one of us liked our meals. My chorizo was flavorless. My husband said his lacked any real flavor and the shrimps were rubbery. He was starving but so turned off by his food he couldn't eat it. We both boxed up our meals and then ended up throwing them away without touching them. My husband said he'd never go back because - as I stated above - "it is the worst Mexican food" he has ever had. Hungry after a long day of driving, we were surprised to not find a lot of dining choices. 6 pm on a Saturday and I expected a wait but the restaurant has a lot of seating and we were seated immediately. Hot chips and salsa were served right away. Hubby had the Enchiladas Suiza with pork and I had the veggie fajitas. I asked for no mushrooms and expected to hear that was not possible but it was no problem. Food came lightning fast! came here for my birthday dinner with family and not gonna lie, probably the worst Mexican I have ever had. The queso was like water and the elote corn was so spicey that I only took two bites before calling it in. The enchiladas were okay but pretty bland. My finances faijtas came out cold and not sizzling. The ambiance was okay, there were several and I mean several drunks, and I will admit that is one good thing about this place is the drinks are STRONG and tastey. The food arrive quickly after order, the cheese enchilada was meh, the chicken and beef enchiladas were pretty good. This is a popular place on the Eastside so the ambiance is ok but it can get loud. The service was really good even though our guy was working the bar too. I've spent a ton of time in Texas and Mexico, so I've had top shelf Tex-Mex and Mexican food. I have been here several times for lunch, and it is really pretty good. Is it the best Mexican food I've ever had...absolultely not. It's probably not even the best Mexican food in the immediate area. But is it a really good Mexican restauarant with big portions and food that tastes good, absolutely. It's a perfect place to hit up for lunch, and it wasn't bad for the time or two I've gone there for dinner. Would definitely recommend the chimi or the chori pollo. Don Rigo is a good place for drinks and cheap Mexican food. It's not authentic, but it's better than Taco Bell. This is one of the few Mexican options right around there. It comes out pretty fast. The staff is mostly friendly. I had the big margarita. It's about $7 for about 20 ounces. The margarita was strong, as I buzzed for the next hour or so. It has a menu of most of the Mexican favorites. The guacamole appetizer was large, but still wasn't enough to use for all the tortillas. The bar area is clean and has lots of TVs to watch. It also has a nice patio at the entrance. This gives you a view of the Kroger, but it still feels nice in good weather. read more

Previously I've given this place 5 stars, however, it is being reduced due to atmosphere. The blinds are broken in many windows, the seats are torn in some of the booths (see photo). I always get the fajitas, and they are always delicious. My husband gets something new every time and has never been disappointed. My daughter has had the shark tender and cheese quesadilla kid's meals and it's happy with them. Let's face it-she's all about the chocolate milk and fries! TL;DR: The food is excellent. Happiness in a bowl! Don Rigo has the best Azteca Soup that I've ever had! It's pure happiness in a bowl. It's hot rich vegetable broth with veggies topped with diced avocado and fresh cilantro & Pico. Then add a scoop of their slow cooked shredded chicken & rice (I order without the rice). This bowl of goodness is $8 but it's worth it! It's served in an oversized bowl and of course comes with unlimited chips & salsa. All the items in their menu are comparably priced to other Mexican restaurants. The staff is super friendly and loves to make you feel welcome there. I've also had the fajitas a few times and they are delicious too but the soup is my go to order. Their fresh homemade salsa is perfectly balanced; not too thick or spicy. They have an beautiful outdoor seating area with it's own bar. Their restrooms have always been clean and well maintained on each of my visits. This eatery is truly an asset to Amelia and makes my top 10 list of favorite places to eat. The bad: They can get very busy. This restaurant has several local loyal customers and I've had to wait for seating a few times. On a couple of my past visits I felt a bit rushed like after we ate they wanted us to leave quickly but I like to enjoy the whole dining experience, especially if we are dining with a group. The parking lot is always packed but don't let that discourage you because it's a rather large restaurant with a bunch of seating. Usually this place is awesome but we were there last night and the booth seats were filthy and when I asked the server for a towel to clean off the beans smeared on both seats, she grabbed some napkins and threw them at me. There was food all over the floor and didn't look like it had been cleaned at all that day. I didn't get her name but she was a red headed gal and wasn't Hispanic. We asked to sit in the booth next to it and she said we could. She brought our drinks and took our order. Our food came out quickly and mine was just two simple tacos but his was one of their meals and it was the wrong thing. Our server didn't bring the food so he couldn't ask for the correct meal and she not once came to check on us or ask if we needed anything else. She couldn't have been more rude and was not friendly at all. When we asked her if we did something wrong to upset her that she was acting this way, she told us she was tired and wanted to lay down and eat something and it was too hot and humid all day (we were sitting inside and it was at night). No apology for her treatment and she threw the check on the table. When we went to pay, we stood at the cashier for five minutes along with other customers waiting to pay. We finally had to go ask someone to pay. Both of us ended up with stomach issues later that night too. Not sure if we will give it another chance or not since we've been going there for several years now. But this was just ridiculous and I hope they make some changes to improve. read more

Ate there yesterday, got a fairly cold taco still pinkish, kind of luke warm but not cooked fully which is hard to do it's ground beef, my friend wouldn't eat it. I asked for no sour cream and she repeated it back to me too , it came with sour cream that I had to scrape off. Waitress wouldn't let me substitute Chicken or Steak for ground beef in one of my enchiladas ? Which would save them money? Never had a place tell me that before it was weird.
