This was such a fun time! This was my first time coming to the ranch to seeing the Christmas lights. I was able to go later at night, so it wasn't crowded at all. Sad to say the drive through Christmas event did not meet my expectations. Displays lacked continuity. Themes were choppy and didn't seem to be connected. However, there were some good displays. The optical illusion tunnel and massive candy canes were the best. The road was very hard to see without lights. The created lanes to get in were tricky. It was easy to go the wrong direction. Limited staff were available to help direct traffic and lastly the music was awful. Big band sounds not synchronized with the Christmas lights. Your pandora is a better option. We had just seen the national winner of the Great Christmas Fight and Windcrest in SA, which were both SPECTACULAR! We live near Don Strange and wanted a near bye drive through. For $30 and a 45 mins drive wasn't worth it. The lights where sparse and a good part of the lights didn't work. I'm not sure if it was because they didn't putting everything up but if that's the case dont open till it's 100%. There so much space to fill and it wasn't filled. Even just lights around the trees wouldn't been better. Didn't bother getting out to see Santa's village. There was a lot of people and didn't want to bother with it. I've been through better. The hands down nicest Christmas display I've ever seen! It's a massive drive thru of beautiful lights in every seasonal incarnation imaginable. And the icing on the cake is the Santa's Village at the deepest part of the drive. It is a beautifully lit barn with the warmest atmosphere in the form of a market place. This review is for the headquarters venue. I had the worst experience with Hannah at this venue , the whole wedding experience was ruined for me . The lack of communication this "venue director" had all along was horrible. The place was not maintained at all , maybe only for events . When I first spoke to Hannah over a year before my wedding she had told us she was switching the barn door to glass doors , and that the venue would look "different" by the time time our wedding came around . That was a joke , the venue looked the same if anything even worse. Two weeks before our wedding, we went to go do a final walk-through. That place was so dirty, there was deer poop inside , the cushions for the seats were all dirty some of them were torn , there were Mis-matching chiavari chairs with different colors. She said she was in the middle of some "inventory change" in my mind who does inventory change 2 weeks before a wedding ?So of course the inventory was not there on time the week of the wedding . So that week Hannah had the audacity to let me know a few days before my wedding that the cushions were not going to be there for our wedding day which was completely unacceptable to us !! Good thing she rented some out without charging us, that's probably the only good thing that came out out of this venue , clean cushions . On the wedding day we were running late on everything & the manager Michelle that day was well aware of that . Her & her team proceeded to go inside the bridal suite while we were taking pictures and take some stuff out WITHOUT US BEING AWARE INCLUDING OUR alcohol we had in there which they then took to the bar , first of all who does this ? And why would they touch our things ? We were well aware we had to take out our things after the ceremony. So unprofessional , so many other small things that make this place horrible , but it is too much to talk about through a review . AT THE END of the day WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE . The management is horrible , the place is not the best looking either . Save your $8000 & go find a better place with hopefully better management and a place with an AC system . Tune into 98.9 and watch the lights dance to the music. My 7 and 2 yo lo's love this drive thru. We drove through quite often with our season pass. Each night it seemed like they added more and more. Don't forget to stop off (midway through the ranch to visit Santa for a free photo in front of the giant rock fireplace! The vendor booths in Santa's Ranch had cool things and good place to find unique Christmas presents. They were festive and friendly and our favorite was the cookie and baked goods lady. Wish I could remember their name! Lots of photo ops, hot cocoa bar, s'mores making bonfire and different Christmas movies projected on the porch of the barn each time we visited. Two friends and I had the pleasure of driving through the Christmas Lights Fest at the Don Strange Ranch last evening--many thanks to Yelp for the complimentary pass!!! We're in our 70's and 80's but turn into kids when it comes to Christmas lights. The drive is about two miles with more than two million lights plus Santa's Village with free photos with Santa for the little ones. The road is well lit except towards the end so we were encouraged to turn off the car lights. We had a blast driving through tunnels of lights and past trees wrapped with strings of small lights. Then there were the "animated" displays--reindeer jumping off a ramp and floating to earth with a parachute, trains chugging along and really too many more to mention. The was even a Menorah and Dreidel that resonated with those of us of the Jewish faith. The display continues through the end of December, so there's still time for you to see this spectacle. So drive out to the ranch and let your Inner Kid experience the wonder of the season once again! read more

Laura and Natalie were wonderful to work with, extremely helpful, attentive to detail and accommodating. The venue is a beautiful wood barn with rustic/vintage vibes and romantic strings of lights. Our wedding package included a longhorn feeding experience that our guests enjoyed while we took photos. At night they allow sparkler send offs. Our wedding was truly magical. read more

What this review is not is a review of Don Strange Catering.....they are a separate company and continue to be one of the best in South Texas. What this is is a review of the venue.....most notably the new ownership. I have done a few corporate events and my daughters wedding in the past when the Strange Family owned. Everything went flawlessly and I was treated with respect. I held a company event there this month and was really disappointed by the way we were treated by the new owners These are just a couple of things: Part of my agreement was use of the house on the property for the bands breaks, A staging area for Santa and other uses. The day of my event I was told the new owner decided to throw her own party at the house and forced us out....despite our agreement. Her party guests wandered into my event and ate our food and went to our bar, and they forced my group off a hayride so her attendees could have use of it. When confronted the ownership acted entitled and shrugged it off I am thru using the venue. read more

I went with my boyfriend and friends to the don strange ranch Christmas lights drive thru. Was the worst Christmas light experience I have ever had. Half of the lights were out on the displays. Lots of empty areas with no lights. I would not pay 30$ to see this when you can see better lights driving thru a neighborhood. The only positive I can say is their Santa's village looks like a nice time for kids and their Santa looked very authentic. read more

The lights and tunnels were amazing. We paid more to do the hayride and unfortunately the gentleman driving us was going a bit fast but was very kind otherwise. Kids were thrilled to see Santa and the grinch and decorate an ornament. Hot cocoa and s'mores were great but it seemed like the workers were a bit worn out. I decided to approach one of the staff at the front to ask if we could drive through once more in our own vehicle and she was incredibly kind! She encouraged us to go through as many times as we want and tomorrow if we wanted to. Aside from the lights and activities, the customer service alone was top-notch which is why I feel 5 stars is appropriate. We will be back! read more

This was our second year to the Ranch. The lights are excellent and the the Christmas town is worth the stop. My one disappointment, is that the new owner has start placing ads on the displays, and has a travel agent "hawking" people. We can certainly over look that, but we paid an entrance fee and didn't expect to have people pushing to sell travel. We were there to see the lights and spend time with the family. My husband and I went to see the Christmas lights with my sister and elderly parents. When we got home, my dad realized he had lost his cell phone. That same night, before I even had a chance to call, I got a text that they had found his phone. They met me closer to my home the next evening with the phone. $25 a car for half of the lights to not work & not nearly as many lights as there have been in years past. Plenty of advertisements along the drive. Really just criminal the amount they charged for the amount of lights on display and the few displays that are up, 1/2 of them are fully lit. Unbelievable. Pretty disappointed. read more

We booked the hay ride through the lights and were pretty disappointed. It was a truck pulling a trailer and the exhaust from the truck was nauseating. The lights are just so-so and the Christmas village was like a small craft fair. It might be great for really little kids, but teens and adults were underwhelmed by the experience. This was our 4th year to drive through the ranch light display. We have really enjoyed the lights year after year. Not sure what happened this year but there were not as many light displays and with the addition of ads on some of the displays was a real turn off. If they are going to get money from advertising they should reduce the cost to drive through. Not sure if we will return next year. read more

Visited the Don Strange Ranch today with friends. Had a great time. The Zip Line was so much fun. The people who worked there were so nice and helpful. My husband was visiting Texas and we were lucky enough to find a Groupon for the Zip Line/Alpine tower on Don Strange Ranch. What an AWESOME EXPERIENCE! The ranch was beautiful and the staff was friendly and supportive. Not gonna lie- I am absolutely terrified by heights but they were patient and supportive of me until I made it up the Alpine Tower. And to top it all off we got to have badass burgers right off the grill (we watched him make them!). Would HIGHLY recommend! read more

Christmas lights fest is a total scam. Tour too expensive, vendors in the Santa's Village are unfriendly (Matthew at the cookie table was downright rude), and the lights were nothing that you can't enjoy for free in Marble Falls Lakeside Park and Johnson City (Pedernales Electric Coop and courthouse). The festive and friendly (and free) community atmosphere in Marble Falls and Johnson City blows away the costly, commercial and cold reception at Don Strange Ranch. On the Don Strange Ranch tour, you will feel rushed, so that they can squeeze the next dupe for the entrance fee. read more
