The eye care service was great however, a year later we received a bill from a collection agency stating that an $85 bill was unpaid with interest. When my wife called Donaldson to clarify the issue, the receptionist said that they sent a couple of bills that were never either sent nor received and that it was sent to collections. Not a phone call, email or any type of steps to make contact with us prior to sending it to collections. Ww have had the same phone # and email for 15-20 years. Completely unacceptable professional behavior particularly for a small $85 bill, which we would have been happy to pay if known. Would NOT recommend this company and will be speaking to our insurance company regarding the shady behavior by this company. read more

i waited 3 months for an appointment thinking this would be a good Dr because of the long wait. unfortunately that was not the case. even though i had an early morning appointment the Dr was running 1 hour behind schedule, Dr Arfon gave me no time to ask questions or to give me anytime at all. he looked in my eyes commented on my age and asked if i was still working full time. but was not interested in speaking to me about my vision problems. i will never go back there!!! read more

After failure to pass my eye exam for a DL at the Sonora DMV I went over to Donaldson Eye Care for an eye examination. After a thorough examination in house during which I was offered a number of solutions I elected to have Lasik surgery for cataracts and astigmatism, which was performed in two operations over about a month in the Donaldson Office. The results were phenomenal. Vision in both eyes is restored to 20/20. After a post-op exam the results were given to the Sonora DMV who then sent me a new California DL with no restrictions. Dr. Andron, who performed the surgery, did tell me in advance I'd have to wear reading glasses with a 2 diopter setting for close vision tasks like my smart phone. But in all other respects, like driving or working in an office, my vision has improved incredibly. Well worth the time, cost and trouble considering that I have had to wear prescription glasses since I was 15 and now don't have to. Like a whole new world of seeing and likewise physical coordination. And my depth perception has improved too. Now I can hit baskets and the clothes hamper with greater accuracy and better timing. My initial eye exam was fine. Unfortunately the eye glasses division of this business is very bad. I was told 1-2 weeks to get my glasses. I ordered both tinted/ driving glasses and clear for indoor use. 1 month later I got the clear pair. Over 2 months and my other pair still are not ready. I cancelled the order and asked for a refund. They are refunding me less than half of what I paid, even though the tinted pair should have cost more than the other. Basically they kept $100 +. read more

Two part review: 1. Good: Dr. Haugen and medical staff were first rate. Cataract surgery and after care went very well. Highly recommended! Tremendous improvement in my life! 2. Bad: The receptionist presented me with pre-surgery authorization paperwork for signature. I signed on the line with my regular signature. The receptionist returned each paper and told me to write my full name above my signature because she "couldn't read the signature". I thought this odd and insulting, since I have used the same signature for all manner of legal documents for 60 years, and it matches the one on my California ID. After I wrote my name in cursive above my signature, she then returned the paperwork and asked me to initial all three pages above my written name. This scenario happened twice, once before each surgery, three pages each time. This to me was degrading and insulting. The lady refused my signature! Whether this is a case of "acting stupidly", a mild case of retardation, or, as I suspect, a person elevating herself by being a classic bully, it is out of place in a professional office setting. This action makes me suspect the competency of the whole business. I went ahead with the surgery and am greatly satisfied with the medical staff. My husband felt his sight wasn't what it used to be in the last few years. We are new to the area and friends recommended Donaldson Eye Care. The office staff was very efficient, making an appointment and getting Mr. S in to be seen right away in Angels Camp. Surprise, surprise he has cataracts! Dr. Perry Haugen did two separate surgeries in the Sonora surgical center. Most impressive is the compassionate surgical staff. I witnessed a young gal who had great anxiety while waiting for surgery. The staff did an excellent job of calming her. Their professionalism is obvious. awful I sent so many family and friends to Dr. Ardron I feel that I was lied to because they asked me if I would spend $1200 that I could have no glasses and they did cataract surgery on both of my eyes and my left eye is worse now than it was when I first went in and they were just so happy because they could give me a eyeglass prescription which the reason I had the surgery was to not wear glasses. They have taken my money and so now they feel like everything is OK because I'm back to wearing glasses and that's the whole reason for the cataract surgery which is not right-. My boyfriend went to this eye group because we are told "shop local". What a joke. He went in to get the dilation and Dr. Shumway did the eye evaluation. Then Dr. Ardon flew in and said you have AMD and there is nothing that can be done. You can take Amed supplements and an asprin. Then flew out of the room. No other test was done or scheduled for me like ex-rays and the dye test through the veins to see if any blood vessel was blocked. So I received no options, test or hope. The disorder can lead to blindness if not slowed by correct exam, advice and treatment. So I decided to "shop valley" for a qualified and compassionate eye doctor. I found one at Retinal Consultant Group on Spanos Ct. in Modesto. What a professional Dr. I had. He went through all the tests and determined at the same appointment what was wrong with me. He gave me an eye injection to help slow the progression, advice on what supplements to take and brochures for me to understand what was suddenly wrong with my eyes. He advised me to have these injections for the foreseeable future monthly. I believe when you are experiencing eye problems in which you may go blind in that eye one day that it is a big deal. This Modesto doctor really calmed my nerves and I felt I got a complete evaluation and path to control my eye disease. Dr. Ardon didn't discuss this with me at all and didn't give me the time a day. The staff lied and said give me your credit card number and if insurance doesn't cover all of it we will bill your card. The staff also said that Medicare and your secondary insurance should cover all of it. Well the next week I noticed a charge and called them. Doesn't a company have to contact you before charging you for a fee? Anyway, they said dilation was not covered under my insurance because Medicare wouldn't pay for it. Well, the new doctor's office in Modesto said that my two insurance companies will cover your dilation and they did. So the staff dinged me for $40 and somebody had a good lunch on me. Wonder how many more people have been dinged and how much they have collected? Speaking to a few of his customers I work with, they seem to either welcome you in or shut down and discard you right away. So, investigate a little on the internet, get in your car and have a nice day in the valley and get a professional down there to take care of your eye problem. Eye disorders are a BIG thing. Made an appointment, they asked for my insurance and I gave it to them. They then made me an appointment. I went to my appointment and checked in and gave the lady at the desk my insurance information. Was told to have a seat and wait. I waited for 35 minutes. Went back and had my eye exam. I had a girl working there (not the dr) give me my eye exam which I have never had. Then the dr came in and looked at my eyes and I'm guessing trusted the results of the young girl? Because he then wrote me my prescription. I walked to the desk and they told me my copay was 25 dollars.... 2 hours later I get a phone call that my insurance is not taken there and I needed to come back and pay 180$. Why would they let me MAKE an appointment???? Then go forward WITH my appointment???? Get your stuff together read more

This doctor has been treating my eyes now for over a year with very satisfactory results. I had corneal abrasion which resulted in eye pain. He switched me from glasses to contact lenses and that made all the difference. Eye pain is gone and I wear the contacts 24/7. read more

If I could give them 10 stars I would. I went in for a piece of metal in my eye and was terrified about the process as I've heard horror stories from friends. from the time I walked in the door to the time I walked out was under 30 minutes. The actual removal took less than a minute, although he did have to use a small needle to remove the metal in my eye. The procedure was 100% pain free, I literally felt nothing. I will never ever suffer with metal in my eye again as I've just toughed it out in the past and waited a week or two for it to work it's way out. hands down the best medical experience I've ever had. If you have something stuck in your eye go get it taken care of, you'll thank yourself later. read more

Nice enough staff. Saw the doctor for maybe 45 seconds. No time for questions for the doctor, as he half answered my only question as he walked out of the room. Long wait. I asked for my prescription, and I confirmed the prescription was everything I would need to order glasses online and what do you know, I go to order glasses online and they did not give me all the details I needed to make an order. Even if I knew what I needed to check for on the prescription they gave me I left with dialated eyes so I would not have been able to read the paper at the time. My preference is to order glasses online since I live far enough from the office and do not frequent Sonora too often. read more

Of course my prescription and eyes haven't changed in 10 yrs, so that makes my exam pretty simple. The optometrist was good but the staff in the associated eye wear center where you order your glasses were horrible. Rude, argumentative, obnoxious, refused to answer questions, actually lied about statements made when pressed. I have a background in optics; while they present a superior know-it-all attitude, it quickly became obvious that they are totally ignorant about the products they are selling, vision, and how glasses work. Dr Ardron is a proficient, amiable eye surgeon. I only hope he comes to his senses and starts his own practice soon. The billing department is atrocious. I was lied to concerning the anesthesiologist's insurance status. Not only is he not a doctor, he is not in the anthem network. When confronted on this issue, Kathy in billing told me the nurse anesthesiologist would accept $400 for both surgeries. My insurance company has paid this nurse $1044.49 after I filed a dispute, and now Kathy says my "copay" is an additional $115. Four months after my surgeries, I'm still being billed for added "co pays" or "deductibles". My insurance plan has neither. I am filing a complaint with the Medical Board of California, as I can only imagine the level of lying and extortion perpetrated on their elderly patients. Shame on them. read more

We were both very pleased with each and every staff member we meant since we were treated as if we had been patients there for years. This eye Dr was rude, inconsiderate, he and his staff laughed at me when I asked for a prescription for contact lenses, said that he was not into just 'handing those out'. I'm sorry, I believe the my insurance and I pay for my visit and if I want contacts, write me a damn prescription for them. His staff was not helpful, did not try to fix the 2 year old frames that I brought in, looked at them and then just told me that those frames aren't made any more without even looking them up. They did not have any frames that I was interested in and the sales person didn't even bother to suggest any frames. I left and will not go back! I'll be contacting my insurance company to tell them not to pay this claim so that I can go to a different eye doctor and get the prescriptions that I asked for. read more

I guess things must have changed in the past three years since the last review was posted. I had an appointment yesterday with Dr. Ardron and thought he was fantastic! Claudia at the front desk, was so very friendly and made me feel comfortable as soon as I walked in. Then Toby prepped me for the doctor, and he too was very friendly and efficient, I think he really knows his job, and was very informative and told me everything he was doing as he did it. Then I saw Dr. Ardron who is so personable and made me feel like he was truly interested in me and taking care of my eyes. I have had a minor condition with my eyes since I was young, that has to be monitored. Dr. Ardron was the first Opthalmologist in 43 years of going for eye checks who thoroughly explained the situation to me, and that was greatly appreciated! Also, the woman in billing was very nice too. Lastly, I went across the way to look for glasses, again I was met with friendly and helpful people; the technician that helped me choose my glasses was a lot of fun and I enjoyed working with her. I told my husband that whoever does their hiring certainly knows what they're doing! It is a very busy practice, so if you don't have patience, don't go. Although I had a lot of waiting time, I realized it's because the doctor doesn't rush his patients, so the same consideration was given to me as well, I didn't feel rushed at all. read more

They are horrible. I've heard nothing but BAD things about them. I applied for and got a job there several years ago... I didn't even work a full day there. The things they expected me to do, with NO optometry training whatsoever, were crazy. I was walked around and shown machines and procedures and that day was to be my ONLY training. They also totally CHEAT insurance companies by increasing on purpose the degree of people who have droopy eyelids... the staff is completely rude, the doctors are arrogant jerks and their procedures are a joke. If you want excellent eye care, I highly recommend SIERRA VISTA OPTOMETRY over Donaldson to anyone, hands down. Horrible place, VILE staff. read more

I went to get my eyes checked and get new glasses. It took close to two hours because they do several people at the same time. I saw the actual eye doctor for at the most 3 minutes. I asked him a question as he raced out the door and I got a off the cuff remark as he left. Then once I had picked out glasses I went to the front desk and was told my insurance doesn't cover the glasses. If I pay in full cash I will get a ten percent discount. So I paid the bill. When I got home I called insurance and they do cover glasses. They pay seventy percent. I called the eye doctor twice before they finally billed my insurance. After month and half and several phone call insurance notified they me they sent eye doctor my $248.00 refund. Eye doctor sent me $170.00 refund. I once again called. If I paid in full why did they part of my refund. They told me I didn't understand they billed insurance for frames etc and they kept money that was owing. The kept more than ten percent discount they gave me when I paid bill in full. I am not getting that money. I won't go back. read more
