I would not recommend this salon to anyone. I was hired as a hair assistant, trained for two days, and then told to text my availability. I sent it right away and was told I would be working on certain days -- but when I followed up to confirm my schedule, nobody answered me. I reached out to multiple people, including the manager who interviewed me, and still got ignored. This is unprofessional and shows a complete lack of respect for people's time. If this is how they treat new staff, I can only imagine how disorganized things are behind the scenes. I wasted my time and energy, and I wouldn't trust a business that operates like this. read more

It's been a few years since I've been to Donato's and I was quite shocked that this prestigious salon had downsized since COVID.. it's now located in the middle of the mall close to Sephora. As soon as I walked up to the salon I was warmly greeted by the receptionist. Who took me over to see my stylist in training, Telaiya. She was amazing! My hair looks fan-fricken-tastic.. it's a lob but it looks so clean fun and well suited to my face. Her teacher, who is very impressive and knows everything about hairstyles and trends.. came over to do a once over to make sure my cut was perfect. He gave it a little fix and voila.. bombshell! I am in town just for the weekend, I popped in to ask if they had an appointment Yesterday and they were able to fit me in for Sunday morning. Akash was absolutely wonderful... very professional and polite. I was very happy that I chose to come here. Compared to prices where I live (Buffalo, New York) the price for a manicure/pedicure wasn't crazy expensive. In the end it was about $75 US.. which with all the little scrubs and massages wasn't expensive in my opinion. This plaice is NOTHING what it used to be before covid! All of the great professionals are gone, they have moved the salon to a much smaller place, that looks too bright and cheap! They ruined my hair color completely, so the colorist had no clue what she was doing. The stylist didn't know how to style or blow dry hair, not to mention she kept doing things to my hair I didn't ask for. Took another 250$ to fix the nightmare they did to my hair a week later. The people at check In are rude and unprofessional, they don't have change to break for you if you need it. This is the place where I always go to when I want to get my hair treated or blow-dried. I've always had great experiences with Donato's and am always satisfied with my hair upon leaving. Donato's is the hugest salon in Square One and has pretty good customer service. The staff are friendly and will make you feel comfortable during your appointment. They also have coat check so you don't have to worry about leaving your belongings lying around when you get your hair washed. This morning I called in to hopefully book an appointment for the same day. Luckily, I got to come into Donato's for my 2 hour Keratherapy hair treatment. This hair treatment is very expensive (approximately $300), so be sure to sign up to their weekly beauty find. They have pretty decent deals when I do receive their emails but I usually only buy their beauty deals if I get a great deal. In the past I've gotten the buy 1 blow dry and get 3 free (too good of a deal so they don't offer it anymore =(), and the Keratherapy treatment. My stylist for today did a great job on my hair and was friendly during our conversation. While she was finishing off my hair I noticed 1 white strand of hair and started to panic. I asked her to pull it out for me and she did =D. I don't believe in the pull 1 out and 2 will grow back. After my appointment I had to pick up a bottle of Keratherapy shampoo, conditioner, and argon oil, which added another $70 on top of my hair =(. I wish I had never gone into Donato's Salon tonight. I had show my stylist exactly what I wanted and she said no problem yes I can do that.. I showed her a photo / all throughout the cut she was not cutting my hair like I wanted her too, in the end it was the worst cut for a Donato salon reputation i ever had, even the front cash girl was speechless .. I walked out of there crying .. I will never go back there. The problem with the stylist is they don't listen to us the customers I my hair is horrible, embarrassing and I ha e to live with this chop cut!! I used to come here all the time but took a break from the coloring etc. After reading the reviews here I was skeptical but I have to say I had a pleasant experience. I got balayage done by Vee and styled by Jennifer. They both didn't talk very much, just kind of got down to work. Hair came out great can't complain. I will say though, it is a bit pricier than I remember. Balayage was $205 and styling was $45. I feel like the blow out should be complimentary unless you request a specific level stylist. Also Vee suggested a treatment for colored hair starting at $60 which I just thought was ridiculously priced so I opted out of that. Started at 11am was out by 2pm. So they were pretty efficient. And I appreciate that as some salons take forever just to start you regardless of appointment times. Overall good visit, hair was what I wanted and I left feeling like a million bucks I just didnt like that it felt like I paid a million bucks. I think for sure customer service needs a tune up but other than that and the cost Id recommend it. read more

Worst experience. DO NOT EVER BOOKED ANY SERVICES THERE. I made reservation last week for massage therapy this Saturday at the Square One location. I called them twice Thursday/Friday to confirm my appointment and I was told that the reservation was confirmed. However, when I got to the salon, that was when the reception informed me that they have not resume the massage therapy services yet - date still TBD. Can you imagine how unprofessional and messed up this is? Oh how i love you so! So I started going to Donato for waxing services and my gal is the best in the biz. Her name is Stana. She is just so warm and has always made me feel comfortable. I rave about her to my friends cause she talks to you and you kinda forget what your there for lol. She is very thorough and you can tell (and she has said) she takes pride in what she does and she does it well. I mean it still will always kinda hurt but she makes it easy for you to handle and shes just lovely! Now the brazillians are 60+tax but your in a nice calming room with spa music playing and comfort cant get any better in this situation. The quality of person and service is worth the money!! As for the hair stuff, ive gone once and had my hair dyed but they wouldnt blow dry/ straighten it for me which i have never heard of before and its def a money grab. Being in the mall, this place gets an astronomical amount of traffic! That being said, make sure you call ahead and book an appointment. My fav stylist is no longer at this location, which sucked for me. I was passed on to another senior stylist 2. For a hair cut with them is 75.00 I happen to have long hair, so experience is necessary. I'm also a control freak so I'm quite picky with how I want things. (confession moment?) The stylist was sweet, she didn't give me much feedback or the step to step update. Naturally I asked, every step of the way. (I'm a nightmare.. I'm aware). I got my cut and I was quite happy with it. It seemed like I had to instruct her a few times to get the right type of cut for my frame. Which is a bit disappointing, Considering she's the one with the experience. Total : $84.75 tip $10.00 (I'm a nightmare but I'm not cheap) fun fact: If you are a client of the salon, they will "refresh" your bangs for free. She was kind enough to let me know this. She thinned the layers by cutting and snipping upwards instead of across. My hair is in worse shape than before. no shape, no movement, nothing. Housed in Square One, this spacious and large spa has many services from pedicures, massages, hair cuts, and make up application. The relatively new renovations brightened the whole space and provided the right level of luxury touches befitting the service price tags. The soothing creams and muted neutrals are betrayed by the annoying top 10 R&B playing loudly. I've been coming here for 2 years on and off and found their nail and skin spa services really good. With calming touches, the service is precise, unhurried, relaxing, and enjoyable. Nails stay perfect for 2 weeks and my skin enjoys the pampering. The massages are hit and miss. They're more about gentle touches instead of removing real knots in the muscles. As for the front desk... Awful. They're all focused on themselves instead of customer service. If something goes wrong on Donato's part, you will get 5 miles worth of excuses. I've waited 5 minutes at an empty front desk because one is primping her lipgloss, another is rearranging the skin care, and another is apply hair spray and gossiping at the nearest hair station. I've also experienced the nonstop excuse with zero apologies from the front desk twice now. One is from a late tech and they failed to acknowledge or call me about this. The tech was late over an hour... Why not inform the line up of clients? The other I'd the constant shuffling between the front desk people trying manage the influx of people coming in. I've never had to wait over 5 minutes before being acknowledge at any other spa. It's ridiculous. The prices here are on the high side but I think the spa services are very good and worth it. I wouldn't recommend the massages or hair cuts though. You can more affordable and better options elsewhere. Fiorio's is my favourite for GTA West hair cuts. I'm secretly hoping one day my favourite spa techs go somewhere else do I can stop coming here. If you stomach the horrible inefficiencies and lacklustre service, you'll find great spa services. read more

She was fantastic. I honestly am glad I went back and had this experience with her because I was ready to never use Donato's services again. I don't go to Donato Salon and Spa for haircuts but I do go for massage and pedicures. Massage - For a the true spa massage experience, I go to Donato's. I am sure that I can go to other spas but Donato's is close to my home. I stumbled upon Tash just shortly after I lost someone near and dear to me and I needed someone to loosen all the knots/burden on my shoulders. She applies the right amount of pressure without even being told how much to apply. I asked her how she knew and she said that she can just feel it. Also, I like how she doesn't constantly talk to you. I am sure everyone has experienced the talkative RMT. Nail Treatments - My rule of thumb is to pay for a top notch pedicure at the beginning of sandal season. My favorite was Dana but she left years ago. She had referred me to Doan. Doan gets the job done. She scrubs and scrubs the winter dryness away and she also is very convincing in colour choice. Before my recent trip to Cuba over the Christmas break, I was sure that I wanted the ever-so-basic, french pedicure since it's pretty natural. Doan convinced me that it's the dead of winter and I am going somewhere hot and sunny, so I should choose a bright colour. She picked a coral colour with the right tint to suit my soon-to-be tanned skin. And I am so glad I went with her choice because on the beach, I couldn't stop smiling at my toes! I feel that Donato Salon and Spa is quite expensive but it's worth it, if it's not for a regular weekly or monthly visit. read more

Wow! This is my kind of salon typically as a guy I really would not go into a place like this, however, here the space for guys is really cool! The barbers look really stylish and they all have this unique hair style that I am sure speaks to their personality. The service is of course exceptional, very personalized - at least I felt like it was. The space very spacious, bright, clean, and the chairs are quite comfortable. The staff is very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about the products they are using especially why they are using them. The barbers explained to me about hair products I could use with my type of hair, he recommended some skin care procedures and and we swapped shaving techniques. I really enjoyed my time there, unfortunately this place is quite far from me so I have only been there twice. I wanted to love this place. It certainly looks great when you walk in and everyone is friendly. The girl who cut my hair, Andrea, did a fantastic job. I told her what I wanted, she made some suggestions and did a great job in delivering. I do not remember the name of the girl who did my hair colour but I don't think she really listened to what I wanted. I wanted ombre but got highlights on the tips of my hair instead. There is a difference and at the price that Donato charges I wish the girl had known the difference as well. Yes, I could have complained and asked to have it fixed but I did not want to put my hair through the correction process. In the end my hair looked fine. It just wasn't what I wanted. read more

I used to swear by this salon a few years ago. Boy oh boy has this salon changed for the worse over the years. I called in asking for an appointment with any colourist and hairstylist to get an ombre colour and haircut. I mentioned price is not an issue. I did mention I wanted someone young, hip and bold. Anyhow, I get there and am seen by a young Asian female named kim for my ombre colour. I make it easy for her by showing her a picture of Rihanna to give her an idea of what kind of ombre look I desire. She blatently responded with "oh ya, not a problem at all." I also mentioned to her that I want the hair dye that has NO AMMONIA in it to be used on my hair, to which she also said "no problem." She was kind and cordial, yes I give her that, but her being kind and cordial has no influence on what my hair looks like right now (unhealthy, breaking midshaft, totally damaged....pretty much, its shitty!!!). I have long medium brown fine hair (fine for an Indian woman in her 20s). Apparently having blonde ombre done on my hair was TOO much to ask for. :( Almost immediately after she washed my hair and brought me infront of the mirror, I noticied it wasn't what I had asked for. The blonde was orange-y/brassy....as if I had dipped my head back in a bucket of peroxide. And there was no transition from my dark brown roots into the blonde. I have always seen it transition...from dark brown, to medium brown, to lighter brown, to dark blonde and then to blonde...when ive seen ombre done on hair. In fact the picture of Rihanna I had showed to the colourist depicted JUST THAT! NO JOKE! When I voiced my concern to the colourist she frantically responded with "get the cut and have it blow dried, you will see then that it's fine and it's just in your head." IN MY HEAD?!!/!?!? No its not in my head sweetheart. And I also I am no dumbass in your chair. I have had my hair coloured for almost 10 years now and I know what the new hair dye (which has NO AMMONIA) smells like. Don't BS me. So I stay calm and get to the hairstylist's chair. Her name was Sherri (20+ yrs experience). She did a great job cutting my hair. She blow dried it and curled it really well. And get this? She even said that it looks like it was done at home and is WAY too brassy. This is when I almost started tearing up. I had to go to a wedding and this is what was left of my beautiful healthy dark brown hair I had come in with? I was not pleased. Sherri called over the salon manager Scott who was kind and heard my concerns. He apologised and assured that if I was not pleased I could come back within 7 days and have it fixed. I left the salon because well I HAD TO, had no choice...i had a wedding to attend. I took my long hair and put it up because it just looked tremendously ugly framing my face: that brassy orange colour against my light-tanIndian skintone. I called two days after and spoke to Scott about my dissatisfaction and he booked me in with Felicia for correction. I once again mentioned to him that I am concerned that all this hair dye will damage my hair and that I am so upset that the correct product (that being the AMMONIA free hair dye) was not utilized when dying my hair to the ombre look. He assured me that it would be taken care of. I went in the day they scheduled me in and I saw colourist Felicia. A sweet woman. No doubt. She tried her best with what train wreck trailer-park-brassy-blonde hair she had been given with to work and fix. I felt bad for her...but hey it's not my fault. It's my hair that is NOW fucked up by someone at the salon. She went in and did her best to make the transitions more subtle. But what I didn't realize (until now) is that she re-applied the blonde hairdye to the ends and a medium brown-ish hair dye to the midshaft area of my hair so there was more of a transitionary area on each hair strand. BUT THIS RE-DYING PROCESS has now totally killed my hair! I do not believe the correct hair dye was used on my hair yet AGAIN (the non-ammonia one I had asked to be used). I just washed my hair for the first time since this appointment (the correction appointment with Felicia) and my hair never ever everrrrr has broken this easily. Everytime I brush or comb or even use my fingers to brush my hair, the hair strands break off MID SHAFT! They are not falling out from the scalp but bits and pieces are breaking off from the ends of my hair! So now I am left with hair colour that I am not happy with at all. But furthermore, they have made my hair so unhealthy...soo brittle and dry. And NO it's not just because I dyed my hair to a lighter colour. Every summer I get blonde highlights in my hair (like light, as in Jennifer Lopez blonde highlights) and never ever have I remotely had such an experience. I made a major mistake by thinking a big-branded salon like Salon Donato could do a good job. This wasn't even a decent job. This was so below par I am lost for words. NEVER AGAIN! read more

Michelle is the best stylist here. I have typical Asian hair and she always gives me a great cut and style. She's also great with updo and formal style so if there are any brides here, ask for her! The ambience is relaxing in the spa area. I've done massage, facial, back facial and body wrap here. They treat you like a queen. It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. For me it was a bad experience, though to add to the story I have been their customer for 5 years now. Anyhow this is what happened - my side burns were taken off completely, clipper marks are everywhere. I asked for just shorter side burns. On my repeated request to cut the top shorter, the top part is still long enough for me to go for another haircut immediately. Somebody senior from the salon might have noticed something, and she then jumped in and for 10 good minutes I was their training subject material. And yet when the senior lady was gone, I had to stop her in between because my so called hair stylist had already done so much damage. To add to this, when I complained I was still charged full amount for this cut (read it mow). yes I was promised some complimentary haircut next time, but I am not taking that chance. read more

I just had the worst experience at Donato in Square one on Sept 25, 2016... I've been going there for years and have only ever had a problem once. I was just given the worst "mom" haircut I have ever had. My hair was long, all the way down to my lower back, and I spent hundreds of dollars getting it balayaged twice at another salon (who is amazing btw), and Shad cut it all off in the back. I showed him pictures of kristin cavallari and Jennifer aniston, who both had about collar bone hair length, with side swept bangs and layers in the front to shape their faces, did not show him a photo of short back layers. Instead he gave me practically a Bob!!!! All short and choppy in the back of my already thick hair, and long in the front!!! What the hell?! Nothing like the photos. So I left the salon, and decided I just spent $70 on this, so I'm going back to complain. When I got back there I started to cry because I was so upset... he cut off most of my colour and I knew I wouldn't be able to change it much without cutting more off. But he took me in and said we can fix it together.... he just thinned it out more. I wasn't satisfied but I left anyways because I just wanted to get home after being there for 3.5 hours. Still looks like a mom cut after I style it myself. I have to keep putting it up because the back looks so horrendous it's embarrassing. Do not go and see Shad!! While he is a nice person, he doesn't understand hair texture or how to emulate a fucking picture. So upset. Also, they have gotten super cheap. All the years I have gone there they have offered a makeup touch up after your cut for free. Last two times I went, NOTHING! I made a call to book the appointment and when I got there, they checked me in and I sat in the waiting room and no one came for me. After half an hour I went to go see what the hold up was and it turns out the person who made the appointment made it for the wrong date(I was on a plane for the time that she booked me for). You would think they would have told me that or noticed when they checked me in. They found me someone to cut my hair but at that point it was an hour after my appointment was supposed to begin and I was late for my plans after. The hair stylist was nice enough and the receptionists were very apologetic but they didn't offer me any kind of discount for the hour long wait. This was the second time I have gone to this place and the first time was shitty too. Won't be going back. The haircut was fine but not worth the price or the long wait. read more

The customer service here is terrible they make you wait at the front desk for what seems likes forever while the girls talk to each other. I booked a consultation with a colourist and I showed him exactly What's wanted knowing that the blonde wouldn't be achievable the first time. The consultation was like 2 mins and he told me he can do it for sure and basically pressured me into booking with him. I asked for a balayage ombré and he just gave me all over highlights. They used to have free bang trims, but now you have to pay unless you go to the same person who originally cut your hair. It is really inconvenient. Previously you could go at anytime and anyone who was free could cut your bangs. Donato, if you are so worried about bang trim fraud, why don't you just check your system to ensure that the person getting a trim is in fact a customer. Unless this is just another money grab in which case I would say your customers already pay a premium for your haircuts and a 5 minute free bang trim is reasonable especially since it is at no added cost to you given that it was previously done by anyone who was free and would not have been doing anything else anyways. read more

I booked an appointment with Rocky and from the first time he saw my hair he knew my layers were off i.e. previous hairstylist did a hack-job. I highly recommend Rocky. This is a really hard review to write because my day was wonderful, and the following days were terrible. I received a "Finishing Touch" package as a gift which included mani/pedi, a spa lunch, single process hair color, hair cut, blow out, and make up application. Everyone who performed a service was absolutely amazing. I really enjoyed how well they got to know me and listened to what I wanted. However, my hair was destroyed. I had highlights a few months ago and wanted a touch up- they all commented on how healthy my hair was and they added in a conditioning treatment after they lightened it- but when I washed my hair two days later, I came out of the shower almost in tears. My hair was(is) extremely tangled and crunchy. I can barely run my hands through it. I went online and found some repair conditioning treatments to use, but honestly, I can't fathom what caused SO much damage to hair that was healthy. I will not be returning to use the rest of my gift card and would not recommend getting hair color from this place. read more

My regular stylist was on vacation but was recommended to another Sr. Stylist that I was told is similar to the one I usually go to. I think not. When I sat down I was asked "what we were going to do". I'm pretty laid back when it comes to my hair (it does grow after all lol). The only thing I did say was I had an inverted V bob. He asked if I was OK with going shorter, I did say yes. So off he started - cutting the back as normal and then all of a sudden cut the front straight across - cutting off about 4 inches. I now have a child like bob haircut. I hate it and it cost me $100.00 for a 20 minute haircut. Was very disappointed when they told me that I can't have a blow dry after getting balayage done and that I have to book another appointment for blow dry... this wasn't the practice last time I had hair colour done... so I was a bit taken aback... I felt like Donato is trying to make money out of every little thing which isn't great from a customer service perspective... u go to a salon expecting to come out feeling great about ur hair, esp when you get one of the expensive services at the salon like balayage... very disappointed to leave the salon without even knowing how the colour turned out when dry.... blow dry shud be complimentary not charged!!! read more

Simply the worst customer service, I have ever experienced. I made an appointment for a cut and colour at Donato's in Square One. The salon called me over the Canada day long weekend to confirm my appointment for 6:30 p.m. (which was the agreed upon time). I revived a missed call from the salon just before my appointment. Upon arrival, they told me I missed my appointment because they rescheduled it without notifying me. The receptionist was not accommodating and kept on repeating what could have been. Overall very rude. Donato's Square one location has terrible customer service. As a long time customer (of 10 years) I will not be going to this salon and will not recommend this place. read more

Had been hunting around for a good stylist since I moved to Canada. Finally found Thomas at Donato Spa. Very skilled, precise, open to your ideas but will use his expertise to guide you. Have gone twice so far and very happy with each result! read more

I must say...these guys know how to pamper! I booked in to have my haircut with Thomas (sr stylist) and I got the full treatment!! Consultation, scalp massage, wash n cut, style and after make up touch up! They also know how to up sell!! Suggesting products that they have used on you. My haircut was $75... But I guess you could say.. You get what you pay for!! read more

The staff in this place are very moody and rude. When they are charging the prices they do, I shouldn't have to put up with rudeness. The first time I came for a haircut, they were exceptional. The hairdresser was friendly and talented. The second time I went she was rude and wanted me out of there as fast as possible. She seemed annoyed at the fact that I waited too long in between appointments to get a haircut. I asked to straighten my hair and she seemed annoyed at that too even though they are charging me more to straighten it. And the guy who did the highlights asked me to brush my own hair. For the amount of money you're charging, learn to be friendly and treat the customers right. read more

Still a fan! Just updating a review to add a quick tip: Avoid going in on Saturdays or Sundays. It is so busy, they just go through clients like it's a gas station. In, out, get your fill, get the heck out. Once I had a stylist that wasn't my regular one and she let me walk out with damp hair. NOT cool when you only came in for a wash and blow dry. So don't come as the last appointment of the night (cuz they want to go home), and don't come on a week-end! read more
