I am a huge pizza snob; I have never found pizza as good as that back home (Carbondale IL) and when I take a chance, I am usually disappointed. NOT TODAY. I've been wanting to try Donatos since I saw the picture perfect thin crust pepperoni pizza online. I accidentally deleted my first review and I'm happy I did because I put my phone down in frustration and warmed up some pizza. The taste of this pizza almost took me back to a old pizza parlor from my childhood called Pietro's Pizza (which is amazing). I usually don't do thin crust but there's held up well and had a decent flavor and the thin crust didn't make me feel so bad after having one too many slices. The cinnamon bread was trash, I mean that's where it ended up (I didn't even take a bite). It was visually burnt, literally hard as a rock and even when I went to the middle piece hoping for some moisture it literally crumbled. That was a huge disappointment because dessert is important (especially when you're craving it). I know that some employees will send delivery items out not caring about the quality because they aren't face to face with the customer. Very clean establishment relatively new lookin and the counter lady who helped me was nice. I had a buy one get one coupon so I gave them a try. Ordered the hot honey Pizza which was relatively good, not great, but just so so, pretty edible so not a bad place if you're in a pinch. I will say don't waste your money on any wing products. I ordered the traditional wings and boneless so I'd rate them at a 1-2, baked, bland tasting and undersized for the price. read more

Thanks to my yelp contact Katie, I had bookmarked Donato's pizza. I love very thin crust square cut pizza. It's like a Chicago thin crust pizza thing. Well come to find out, the owners of Donato's are from Ohio. They also have Ohio State decor on their walls. We ordered our Hawaiian pizza that we love. They were nice enough to point out to me that their Hawaiian pizza not only has the usual pineapple and ham, it also has sliced almonds and cinnamon. I never heard of this in my life. Do not order delivery from Donatos. They are now using DoorDash to deliver pizzas. I ordered a pizza about a month ago and never received it. It was late in the evening and they closed before I could get a manager. I had to call back the next morning on a Saturday morning to complain that I never got my pizza. They offered me my money back, but they didn't offer a discount or even a free pizza to replace it due to their own mistake she simply drummed it up to them having problems with the DoorDash delivery service poor management poor review. read more

Love it. Tops the other chains. Get the spicy chicken pizza with pickles and ranch. It's crave-worthy. Can't say much about other stuff there, though first discovered them while at a pool party where somebody brought in Donatos and it went super fast. This is a great local pizza place!! I didn't even know this place existed! I was actually at a Savannah Banana's game and they were giving away free pizza (they give away pizza every time they win a home game). I used my coupon to get a free pizza. Of course I figure they would have given us the small personal size pizza but no! It was actually a great size pizza! My friend and I shared the pizza and it was more than enough for the two of us. This pizza was good, but not the best I've ever had. If it had less red sauce on it I would have rated it higher but that's a personal preference. We ordered pick up at about 6:45 and it was ready by 7:00 pm, Thursday Sept 17, 2020. Luckily we didn't encounter any of the issues that the lower reviews for this place have. I like how the pizza is cut better than regular slices, not sure why seemed a bit more appetizing. Good amount of toppings. The Margherita on thin crust is EVERYTHING EVERYTHING!! I'm visiting Savannah from Chicago, where deep dish pizza is an art form. This is why I genuinely appreciate when a thin crust is flavorful and cooked to perfection! I made an online order yesterday during a pandemic if you haven't been watching the news so arriving there to find out that they would bring the food curbside was awesome to see when I pulled up. I knew that my food would be ready since cook time is less than my travel time. I called the number upon arrival and was told that they would bring it out. I waited for 20 minutes in the parking lot and finally had to go into the store...during a pandemic...after they told me that they would bring it out. When I went in the two people at the counter said that they did not know that I was outside. HOW DID MY ARRIVAL GET LOST IN COMMUNICATION? A good excuse was that they were busy but only one dine in customer was sitting so, no, not able to use that excuse. I had to drive 20 minutes home with 40 minute old pizza. Why wouldn't they want to offer me better service after I voiced my displeasure? 50 Dollar orders must be plentiful so they can just blow me off. So we have a history with this pizza chain as it was founded in Columbus OH and we went to Ohio State in the 80's. College students eat a lot of pizza and this place was one of our favorites. Once graduating and moving away, we never had another Donato's Pizza. Imagine my surprise, when I saw that one had opened in Savannah. We just HAD to go! Well our cob web filled minds tried to compare the old with the new. We remember the eatery more like a full service restaurant with a bar (which is what we bellied up to when we wanted a Donato's pie). This place was definitely streamlined for the franchise market. The modern vibe, sparse decor and a smattering of tables said take-out, not dine in. The thing about this pizzeria, is that its thin crust is what made it so popular. Delivery or pick-up would probably render the pie to be room temperature. So I would recommend eating it there if you have never been. Heck, we got ours straight out of the oven and it still wasn't piping hot. Anyway, we ordered one of their specialty pies - a medium Founders Pizza with pepperoni, their family recipe Italian sausage, banana peppers, and ham. We added fresh mushrooms. I have to say I wasn't expecting much, thinking my inexperienced 19 year old palate probably convinced me that this indeed was a good pizza. Well, we were blown away. This was probably the most balanced pie -flavor wise - that we had tasted in years. You will be paying more than the regular chains, but these guys do NOT skimp on the toppings. Even though they load on the ingredients, they do so in the right proportions so you get a flavor packed punch on your first bite. The pie is cut in rectangles and the toppings are piled high right to the edge. For some reason, I remembered their crust to be like Pizza Hut's saltine tasting thin crust but this was so beyond that. It really had some nuanced flavor, that made it such a pleasure to eat. My only caveat was with the sausage. Even though we finally came across a pizza place in the South that doesn't crumble, slice, or make rabbit pellets out of this meat, you could tell it was processed and not fresh. Growing up in Chicago, I yearn for the big chunks of craggily fresh sausage packed with spices like garlic and fennel that they throw on raw and then have the oven cook the pizza and the sausage at the same time. Don't know if this visit was a fluke, but next time I am in town it will be hard not to return. read more

Delicious delicious pizza. They make sure to give you PLENTY of topings and at a reasonable price. They have Mountain Dew products for those that love dew like I do lol. I'd never had, or heard of, Donatos Pizza before, but I am so glad they opened in Savannah! Both my husband and I grew up eating thin crust pizza, cut into square 'party cut' pieces, so when we saw this place was opening we had to try it. We ordered takeout, although it's definitely a space we would dine in. What we ordered: Fresh Stuffed Jalapeños, 10" The Works, and a 10" Create Your Own pizza. The Fresh Stuffed Jalapeños were delicious. The jalapeños had a little bit of heat, (I wouldn't call them spicy), but had a ton of flavor from the bacon, and cheese, and the crunchiness of the pepper. They traveled surprisingly well. The website labeled the 7" pizzas as individual size, but we were skeptical because it was thin crust and ordered 10" pizzas. Turns out, the 7" would have been perfect for dinner, but we got 2 meals out of the 10" pizzas we ordered. The Works is a classic pizza combo - pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, onions and mushrooms. The flavor of the sausage, and the thin crust took me back to memories of Chicago thin crust. They have a delicious menu, but it will be hard for me to order anything else but this pizza because it was that good. My husband ordered a ground beef, jalapeños, and green olive pizza, and loved it. As the website said, the toppings go all the way out the edges and were of excellent quality. The reheating instructions on the box were spot on, and the leftover made for a great lunch the next day. They have sandwiches, salads, calzones, and other appetizers on their menu that all look so, so, good. Love to try them if we can ever tear ourselves away from what we ordered the first time. Donatos is a great new addition to Savannah's mid-town-y area, or atleast it is for us. Just barely north of Derenne, it serves us great for our go to pick-up pizza spot when we're studying and want a quick dinner. Far more better than any of your other top name pizza chains. The ingredients they use are much more fresher than the other guys and it's just all around a much higher quality pizza. We've tried a few pizzas from them so far including the Hawaiian and a meat lovers with banana peppers. Both pizzas were really good and the Hawaiian is definitely one of the betters Hawaiians I've had! Very tasty and like I said, you can just tell when people are using real, fresh ingredients. Their cheese stick and cinnamon sticks are also a great side order as well. I look forward to future pizzas from them soon and I encourage you to do the same! read more

It was a very personable experience that was genuine and sincere. Now on to the pizza. I am NOT a fan of a thin crust at all but my goodness if this place didn't change my mind. I am updating my review from the past post on the rewards program frustration. Much to my surprise the owner responded immediately addressing my concerns. It can be frustrating on both sides being a customer and an owner. An owner trying his best but can't possibly be there 24/7 making sure his employees are giving positive customer service. The most important issue is when an owner receives an issue responds rapidly and is genuine in making sure every concern is listened to and taken care of above and beyond the complaint. Kudos to the owner because the kind concerned response was truly genuine and is totally unheard of this day and age. This truly is a great place.
