Tried out this new pizza place. NOTE: there is seating inside. It is not a lot but it is decent (clean, pleasant). The staff was very friendly and Adam, the owner, is very nice and answered my questions. They pride themselves on their thin crust. I'm not necessarily a thin crust person but I decided to try it. We ordered a large pepperoni. The number of pepperonis you see in the pictures is accurate. Tons! Yum!!! The sauce to cheese ratio is excellent. I actually really liked their thin crust. I will definitely order it again. We just really enjoyed the pizza. They mainly do delivery and pickup. It is a pizza place however they also have sandwiches and other dishes. NOTE: their is a gluten free crust. I asked some questions because I know a lot of places use a pre-made gluten free crust that is bought from another company. They do make their own (in their own factory - not on-site). There is also a vegan option. I am looking forward to trying more things on the menu and having that pepperoni thin crust again!! read more

Very, Very Veggie. OK - off the bat - this ain't the standard American pizza. That's fine. You just need to know going into it. This is a bright, vibrant cooked salad on bread with limited spices and cheese. This comes closer to being antipasto to me. And the green olives aren't from that little jar in your fridge stuffed with pimento. They're not salty and have a somewhat woody, but pleasant flavor. The tomato is really, really flavorful. This restaurant has an extensive menu and a 100 health score. I visited for the first time but I've been told that they've been open for 1 year already. Unfortunately I didn't like the pepperoni pizza that I ordered and 2 of my family members also disliked it. The pizza, every inch of it was covered with tiny pepperonis. So much so, the cheese wasn't visible. Usually when I think of pizza, I think of the gooey, stretchy cheese, but this pizza seemed to have had minuscule drops of cheese here and there. The sauce was good and I think it would be delicious on pasta. I still recommend everyone visit because they have a great menu, lots more for me to choose during my 2nd visit. Maybe they were having an off day because this place just didn't do it for me. I ordered two pizzas their thin crust and the hand tossed and neither one was all that good if I'm being honest. The thin crust in their defense was much much much better then the hand tossed which was terrible. Large pieces of raw uncooked onions who does that? I had high hopes for this place after reading the reviews but those people must have been under the influence when they wrote those reviews. Pizza is easy to come by in Savannah, but, good pizza, not so easy. This place has GOOD pizza! We went for Father's Day and ordered the 150 Pepperoni and the Margarita pizzas. The 150 has a great taste with the smoked provolone cheese, it was creamy and matched well with the pepperoni on the thin crust. The Margarita was equally as good with fresh tomatoes, real mozzarella cheese and a sweet, subtle vinaigrette. I left stuffed and wanting more at the same time. Two large pizzas and cheese bread for a family of 5 for around $35 bucks, I dont need to tell you how much a large costs at other places, this is a great price, fresh and good food. Donato's has a lot of potential, but it needs to tighten its game if it hopes to compete for a slot as one of Savannah's great pies. The sauce is good, tangy but tempered with just enough of a sweet note. They lay it on too thick, though. A lighter, more judicious hand is needed. Their cheese has a good taste and great stretch, but they don't lay it in thick enough. They are generous with other toppings, the toppings are quality product. Which brings us to the area where Donato's has a lot more room to improve. A good pizza crust is chewy. The best crusts are allowed to proof at least a few hours . They have a taste that only yeast can provide. Donato's tastes like it has no yeast at all. The texture is more like a very skinny bread than a pizza. Without a good crust, a pizza will never be more than okay, less than average. One more note: Donato's cuts their pie in squares. This is so superior to the wedge that I have long despaired of finding a well-cut pizza in town. On this note, Donato's aspires to the Chicago thin crust, the prince of pies (deep-dish being the undisputed king.) One small complaint, they cut the squares too unevenly, resulting in rectangles rather than squares. A pizza is cut into four portions vertically and horizontally. Donato's cuts into threes. This is an easy fix and I hope they are paying attention. In conclusion, this pizza is deserving of further study and I look forward to my next offering. Here's hoping the powers that be take notes well. read more

If I could give it zero stars I would. I have ordered from here before and I thought it would change, but it only got worse. I was expecting a normal pizza; toppings, cheese, sauce. What I received was a very unusual pizza with cinnamon and almonds included with my toppings. Very bland and lacking taste too. Only saving grace was the wings that we ordered were good and the soda. I was eager to try Donatos, the new pizza place that opened in the Midtown area. I must say that the staff were very pleasant and the taste of the pizza was very good. In fact, if I were not part Italian, I would give them four stars. However, given my background and wealth of experience with a variety of pizza styles (New York, Chicago, St. Louis, LA) I must subtract three stars for the presentation. For some unknown reason they cut up the pizza into tiny tidbits approximately the size of a saltine cracker. Why butcher an otherwise tasty pizza in this savage and merciless way? I have not witnessed such desecration of something so iconically Italian since Sonny Corleone was shot to pieces at the toll booth. Again, I am not faulting the value, quality or service. I had Donato's Pizza a number of years ago (in a previous city) and fell in love with the distinctive taste. Unfortunately, that location was horribly managed and the restaurant folded quickly. Hundreds of miles from the nearest Donato's, I thought I'd never experience them again but, to my surprise, one has opened in Savannah! Yahoo! I was in their area recently and stopped by to satisfy my years-long craving. I was not disappointed! The location is very nice. Clean, upscale, beautiful outer area. The owners are very nice and very accommodating. The (pepperoni) pizza hit the spot! Donator's rescued us when we needed a later dinner on a Sunday. Online ordering was easy, and pick up was ready in 25 minutes. While the thin crust is fine, the toppings are really fresh.
