Went with a group of six for dinner last night. We had a great time. The Service was excellent and the food was good. I had the Thursday night Beef Dip special with Onion Rings. Very good! B and I came here for dinner on a Wednesday night. It was dark and stormy. We wanted to eat somewhere close. B has been to Donegal's before. First time for me. It was wings Wednesday when we came here. We got 40 wings to share/ 4 different flavors: Honey Garlic, Whisky BBQ, Sweet Thai and Third degree. I didn't try the third degree. B likes spicy food and I can't handle spicy food myself. I liked the honey garlic the most. Sweet Thai was not bad. I am not a big fan of the Whisky BBQ. So the way they cooked the wings is that they would fry/bake them and then toss them in sauce. The wings were 45 cents each and a minimum of 10 wings per flavor. It was an awesome deal. The wings or maybe I should say the drumsticks were huge. In a basket of 10, there were 1 wing and 9 chicken. So in total we really had 4 wings and 36 drumsticks. After consuming 20 drumsticks, we were super full. Portion size is huge here. They also have daily drinks special for a pretty good price as well. B told me that I have to come back and try their Guinness Burger. They are actually known for their burgers. Also note that this place has plenty of free parking. Donegal's is a bit hidden. I've been to Donegals a few times this year and it's a great hang out. They have live bands, pool tables and the service is fantastic! First tried the Donegal burger which lived up to the hype of best burgers in Surrey. It was big, juicy, tasty and had a stamp of the pub on the bun - very kool presentation. Next time I had the beef dip special with crispy onions, horseradish aioli and Caesar salad with homemade dressing .... It was so damn good! I've also had the chocolate cake for dessert and it was decadent. Will be back to try more menu items !! read more

I spent over $35 ordering these two burger (Guinness BBQ, Black & Blue). They are HORRIBLE! The meat tastes like SPAM meat, incredibly salty to an extent that causes physical pain on my tongue and causes stomach upset once ate. Salty to an extend that all you can taste is bitterness and you can even felt chemical taste (and it's not from mayo or the blue cheese), purely disgusting. The Black & Blue burger is worst of these two. So regret to order these two. If you are customers, please make note of what I say here. Horrible taste. read more

Lunch was a huge success! Had the Yorkshire to start (shared with hubby) and watch out as their horseradish is HOT! One of the best we have ever had. I think I can breath into 2020! And of course I HAD to try their award winning best burgers in Surrey so I had the Guinness BBQ with bacon, cheddar and crispy onions. This burger is a beast! I was one bite shy of finishing it. Upgrades the fries to a Cesar salad. A little to heavy on the dressing for my taste. Hubby got the beef dip and fries and he saved the horseradish from the Yorky and man that is one damn good beef dip! Fries are awesome too. Washed down with a Red Racer IPA and Wheat Ale. I can't believe I've only just gone here as it's so good, close to home and may just be our new pub of choose. It used to be sorta sketchy,sorta uncool,...but now I gotta say it has transformed into a cozy multipurpose pub/venue for gen x, boomers, and even millennials and it's a gr8 place to chill,grab a home made meal,down a pint or two and even check k out ur fave local artist on weekends. U can can even jam at the 'Freakrock' jam on sundays.Lotsa big monitors to watch ur fave match or hockey game so this is what I call 'a very well thought out establishment. Amazingly friendly laid back, but attentive staff. I totally blew my diet last week when I was there to catch the stellar 'Whole Lotta Led' Led Zeppelin tribute band. My date really wanted to try the Jackie Gleason burger ($14.78) - two beef patties, cheddar cheese, sautéed mushroom, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion with an over-easy fried egg. Hence, we made our way here and I ordered the daily 2 piece fish and chips special ($10). We did not order any alcohol and our server was still smiling. She was the only one running around and was very on top of refilling drinks, taking orders, dropping off cutlery, condiments and food. Now my date was very impressed with his burger that he wanted to bring his friend here on another visit. The burger was nicely assembled and the homemade patty made the difference that you can taste. All the ingredients created one flavourful and filling meal. There was also more than enough fries. Although by the time we received our meal, our fries looked like it has been sitting there for awhile. I could taste that it was made with some decent quality potatoes. My fish was piping hot that I could see the steam when I cut into the fish. I should have ordered a one piece special as I did not realize how huge the portion was. Fish was good for the price. The fish itself was good, but I prefer the batter to be lighter. They kept the Irish pub feel and probably most of the original furniture. Some of the customers were questionable, but most seemed to be there for the food, drinks and live music (we left before the music started). Hungry for pub food, my partner and I opted to try this pub. We were not overly impressed. I'm not sure if it was a particular bad night but I definitely don't see how this pub could have won so many awards. To start off, there was not much Irish to be seen. We went on wing night so wings we got. There were many flavours to chose from so that part was good. The wings were dry and not very meaty. Some had a very scant amount of sauce while others were gooey and drippy. My partner was hungry so we also ordered a poutine. The one on the menu looked great (on paper). A turkey dinner poutine? That sounds amazing, right up until we tasted it. The gravy was good but the chuck of soaked dressing were not very pleasant. The service was good and the waitress was on top of our needs. Which is why this review is better than I was initially going to rate it. The ambiance was good too with a large screen for those that enjoy games. The Price was reasonable but on the high side. All and all, I doubt we will return for the food. But I'm willing to give it another try. read more

I was in there last Monday night. Some observations. 1- All female floor staff that I could see, except for one, dressed so horrible bad it was like they just grabbed what they could find in their hamper. No thought to how they presented themselves. Trashy spaghetti strap tops with mixmashed bra straps showing among other body parts... tank top dresses?? So unprofessional. 2- My pierogy appetizer was sad. 6 or 7 deep fried bland pieces on a bare plate with a sprinkle of green onions and a ramekin of sour cream. Could have done so much better. Maybe some fried/caramelized onions and parmesan cheese on the plate as well. It's like the chef/owner doesn't care what the products look/taste like. 3- Saw some other dishes going past me and was not impressed. 4- Staff were not friendly at all. It's like they were inconvenienced to help you. 5- If it wasn't for the crowd of 100 that were there for a pyramid scheme meeting, it would have been dead. It was even mentioned in that meeting that the owner of Donegals was in on this pyramid scheme operation and was getting 30% of sales into his pocket. My husband and I have never been pub patron's but on a suggestion from friends stopped in for dinner Friday night. I had the Fish n Chip special ($8.00) & my husband had Shepard Pie both excellent, along with 2 draft beers and a tea it was still only $40.00. Great food, great price and Sunni our server was a breath of fresh air- she likes her job and it shows, pleasant, knowledgeable and a "Sunny" personality. We come to Donegals for lunch/dinner quite often. We purposely come during the day, and on the non-busy days. It's how we like it. And we will keep coming back for the food, and the atmosphere. As I said, we like the mellow atmosphere. And the food is fantastic! My boyfriend enjoys the blue-cheese burger. I have tried a variety of dishes, including the most recent - the perogies. There is ample food on the plate so you don't walk away feeling hungry. The food is tasted, and prices reasonably. The atmosphere is an older pub, but with regulars and friendly staff. They do have live bands, but we like the quiet atmosphere of the off-hours. So I can't comment on these louder functions. I totally recommend Donegals. They support the community by hosting fundraisers for schools, clubs, etc. And they routinely score highly in local surveys for top pub, etc. Go visit!! read more

I have very mixed feelings about this pub. The food is good, the menu diverse but the service is pretty bad. Forgetful, over worked servers who do not believe in service with a smile, nevermind greeting new guests or quickly visiting the table for a drink order. I often receive my order mixed up or just plain wrong but the food is just so good... I visit this pub rarely even tho it's walking distance from me. My husband and I had to take a day trip to Canada. We love going to Canada and were in the Surrey area. We decided to visit this place for lunch, my husband is irish and he loves to find places like this. Unfortunately this place was a huge disappointment for us. Here's my take on this place. It's a sports bar with irish décor. We were disappointed by the lack of actual irish dishes that were not offered, we noted that there were maybe 3 to 4 irish dishes and some of these had "new" next to the name. That being said, here is what we did order. Fish and chips with a water for my husband and beef dip with a coke for me. Our waitress was friendly enough. In noticing the clientele of the place, there seemed to be many locals who frequent here. Many of the people were greeted by first name by the waitresses. There is a huge screen with a stage where music is probably played at (bands). There are quite a few tables and more tv's to watch in different areas along with a bar with seats. Many of the groups listed on the bars schedule play rock music. My husband's fish and chips was a huge disappointment, here is why. If a fryer is not up to temperature and you put something in the fryer to cook, it will absorb grease like crazy. This is what happened here. Really bad fish, you could see the grease oozing. Let's just say he ate a lot of fries which were actually decent. My sandwich was served on a small roll, which looked like it had been grilled on the outside. The meat inside appeared to be shredded. There beef was incredibly dry. The au jus was just plain awful. There was nothing homemade about the au jus and had a distinctive flavor of a type of "better than bouillon" jar of stuff that is used by many homemakers. I've had that once, didn't like it then, didn't like it here either. It was almost black in color and extremely salty. I had fries also and they were decent. So that all being said, our visit was disappointing. At first glance, we almost didn't go into the bar, the outside area surrounding the front entrance really needs a good clean up. To be fair, there are other businesses around and maybe this has something to do with it? Who knows but the appearance is not good. My husband says well let's give it a chance and we did. So for our day trip to Canada, this place didn't deliver for us and we won't be back to this place. For others who have visited and liked it, more power to you. read more

I've been coming here once a week for the last 15 years ( with odd exception for holidays or sickness) with my best friend. It's nice firstly because it only a 5 minute walk from our home. Yes over the years it's gone through changes in menus and staff but by far it's one of the friendliest pubs around. I feel like anything you do if you treat your servers with respect you'll get it returned tenfold! We've become such regulars that our beer us served within minutes of arriving as they know our preferred beer. Rarely has the food anything but excellent. Yes there been the odd time things haven't been perfect but considering the time we've been coming here it's definitely not the rule but the exception. Definitely the best burgers and wings around! The prices here are also the best I have seen and they always have great specials. I would say donegals is my favourite neighbourhood pub. This place is disgusting. We are new to the area, looked online and read some reviews. Seemed like a decent place to have a quick, "homecooked" meal as per their website..voted best this and best that..We arrived to the dungeon like dark, dank bar. (It's 3:30 pm I might add) and decided to sit on the patio as it was a beautiful day. The sever brought us out dirty coasters for our drinks. The menus were so dirty and sticky. We decided to order wings off the menu (not on special) and look over for the main course...while we waited for the wings there were regulars smoking weed and cigarettes outside the patio and the waitress playfully asked them to move (which they didn't). Waitress came with our wings still had money bills wrapped around her fingers delivering our food (no hand washing?) no cutlery, no condiments, no dip for the wings. Wings were triple deep fried and not fresh at all...they were hard and stringy. We skipped the main course, did not finish the wings and left. Will not becoming back. Not sure how they won all these voted awards. It's definitely a place that deserves to be in the Whalley area. I would have voted no stars if it was an option. read more
