All my concerns about cataract surgery were heard and I had a clear understanding of what to expect. Dr Paik did cataract surgery at O Connor hospital , Sanjose on my left eye in late May 2026 and my right eye in late June 2026. Prior to surgery i was short sighted and astigmatic. When cataracts started forming my vision deteriorated- trouble with reading road signs and a lot of blurriness. I chose the Clareon PanOptix Pro Toric trifocal intraocular lens for both my eyes and I am extremely happy with the daytime results. I am completely free of glasses for distance, intermediate, and near vision which has been amazing and has made such a difference in my daily life. There is a trade-off though with trifocal lenses, at night. Because the lens divides incoming light into multiple focal points to provide clear vision at different distances, I do notice faint concentric rings, glare, and halos around bright lights at night. I was told that the brain can gradually adapt to these visual effects, sometimes taking six months to a year, although they may not completely disappear in some cases. . The hope is that, over time, I will notice them less and learn to ignore them. Overall, I am very pleased with my experience and especially grateful for Dr. Paik's expertise, patience, and willingness to answer all of my questions throughout the process. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone considering cataract surgery.

Dr. Lally "raises the bar' as a surgeon, and as a medical care professional that ensures your arrival and departure from her office are an excellent experience. Her level of experience as a surgeon and detail oriented nature allow you to trust in her recommendations for your best eye care solutions. I can see vividly now, and also this procedure has eliminated the extensive 'eye strain' required to previously see details. Four months later after returning from an extended trip abroad I saw her again. At this visit, she stated that now I had WMD (Wet Mascular Degeneration) and required afilbercept injections. When I asked why this condition had not been identified during my initial evaluation, she responded that "it happens sometimes" I received 3 injections with no improvement. I monitor my vision daily using an Amsler grid, and I have never observed distortion or changes. When I asked about proceeding with cataract surgery she told me I need additional injections space 6, 8, 10, 12 weeks apart and that my cataract was only mild -- contradicting her earlier assessment. I sought a second opinion from another opthalmologist (Retinal Diagnostic Center) who confirmed that I do not have WMD and do not require injections For 3 injections, more than $5000 was billed to my insurance and I paid nearly $600 in copays Based on my experience, I do not find this physician trustwortthy. She did not provide clear explanations or review my imaging with me and her assessments were inconsistent

Dr. Yang spent a long time at my first consultation explaining different IOL options in detail. I chose Johnson & Johnson's Eyhance lens and had cataract surgery with him in March 2022. Eyhance gives me clear distance vision (20/20) and also helps with intermediate tasks like using a computer. I still need reading glasses for close-up work (30-60 cm), and I sometimes wear them while cooking. However, overall, I'm very happy -- no glare, no blurriness, and I enjoy driving, makeup, TV, and more without glasses. Another option was Vivity, which may offer better near vision but possibly slightly less sharp distance vision than Eyhance. I chose Eyhance because I wanted the clearest possible distance vision. Cataract surgery results vary by person. I recommend meeting Dr. Yang and choosing the lens that fits your lifestyle best.

As a skilled and seasoned surgeon, he was able to remove most of my astigmatism. For the first time in my life, I can do a lot of activities without wearing glasses. He affirmed when my family has experienced with the VC radiologists; for the most part with my family's care that they just cannot read X-Rays correctly. Some horrible and dangerous errors have been made by VC's radiologist at our expense...incredible. Beware of that issue. He was more helpful than ANY of the many doctors assigned my care during hospital stays. He didn't do any "ass covering" for doctors who had messed up my care. That is very appreciated by my entire family. Big loss of stars regarding respect for our time. My husband was by my side for most of the experiences with Dr. Schmidt, including taking time off from work. Not happy about Dr. Schmidt's disregard for our time. When hospitalized, he was many hours late visiting me to release me from the hospital. During in-office visits, he left a lobby filled with patients waiting and waiting and waiting. First visit- the lobby wait was about an hour and a half. There was also a long wait in the exam room. During my second visit, I became very frustrated after waiting in the hallway for the staff to return from lunch, waiting in the lobby and then waiting in the exam room. The exam room wait alone was an hour. After that full hour wait, I got dressed and asked a receptionist if the doctor was even IN the office. She answered that he was not there, nor would he answer the several pages she made to him. I asked for my co-pay refund and happily walked out of his office. Our time is JUST as important as any doctor's time.

Like many doctors' offices, you end up waiting a bit once you arrive at Dr. Schmidt's office, but it was fairly comfortable and the wait to start the exam wasn't terribly long. The only complaint we had about this part of the visit is that the front desk people can be a bit brusque and abrupt. They weren't rude, but they weren't welcoming and warm either. A bit of charm would help. The doctor was incredibly thorough and patient with my father. He spent close to an hour talking to my father and mother about my father's medical history, what kind of problems he was experiencing and other matters to give him a full understanding of what he was working with. It was refreshing to see a doctor take his time to really get to know his patient. My dad found Dr. Schmidt to be personable, professional and warm. After that, the doctor did a physical exam and gave us his overview of the medical situation and a proposed plan of action to help my dad. It's still early in the process, but after the first office visit we are very pleased to have found Dr. Schmidt.

My severe nearsightedness and astigmatism kept getting worse, and I was seeing less and less clearly. I blamed it on a lack of talent, thinking this was simply the limit of what I could ever become. Through a friend's recommendation, I met Dr. George Yang. After a thorough examination, Dr. Yang confirmed that the only way to improve my condition was through cataract surgery. Even then, I still had many doubts. Surgery is an invasive treatment, and I was afraid that if it failed, the rest of my life would become very difficult. Whenever I hesitated and couldn't make up my mind, he patiently returned my phone calls and answered all of my questions without irritation. Eventually, I overcame my fears and decided to move forward with the surgery. Following Dr. Yang's recommendation, I chose a special lens that had been introduced at his clinic about a year earlier -- one that allows the prescription to be adjusted up to three times after surgery using light treatments. The surgeries went very smoothly: first my right eye, then my left eye two weeks later. I chose distance vision correction for both eyes. The surgeries were performed at Peninsula Eye Surgery Center, where the medical staff took wonderful care of me. After the surgeries, Dr. Yang examined my eyes again and again to determine when my vision had stabilized enough for the light adjustments. During the process, he also helped me decide to have my weaker eye assist more with near vision while my stronger eye focused on distance vision. He prescribed Xiidra eye drops to stimulate tear production so that the measurements of my vision would not be distorted by dry eyes. I could truly feel how seriously Dr. Yang took my treatment. He never rushed through the three light-adjustment sessions simply to complete my case. On the contrary, because there are only three opportunities for light treatment and the benefit becomes limited afterward, he used each session very carefully. If the measurement on a given day differed significantly from the previous visit, he would ask me to continue using the eye drops and wait until my prescription stabilized before proceeding with another adjustment. This process stretched over more than a year, and I am deeply grateful for the professionalism, compassion, and patience Dr. Yang demonstrated throughout my treatment. Now, I have recovered very well and can see clearly again. I can drive without glasses, and if the print is not too small, I can even read without reading glasses. Best of all, when I paint, I can finally distinguish subtle variations in color. I used to think my abilities were lacking, but now I realize there were many things I simply could not see before. Now that I can truly see, I also feel more confident in myself. I introduce myself as an artist, because I finally believe I can achieve a certain artistic standard.
