The over all vibe of the restaurant is hip/cool. The place was packed (PACKED!!) for Saturday brunch, luckily we had a reservation because people kept coming and were waiting to get inside the whole time we were there. Service was a little off but our server, Asia, was kind. Here's the "off" part. It took a while to get waters, we got our side but no small plates right away. There was no silver ware when the food came. Also, adding coffee would be a great add for a brunch spot. The food was good overall. I had salmon and grits. Friends had whiting and grits. My friend felt the grits came out just warm. My salmon was cooked great and was flavorful. I like the Cajun sauce but it thickened as it cooled. The collard greens dip was the best part though I wish it had more greens in it. The collard greens as a side were not good at all. They tasted more like canned Glory collards. I was so excited after reading the reviews and seeing the owner's story. Big disappointment. No alcohol not sure why although their menu reflects a cocktail menu. The food came out fast and our server was great. That's where the compliments stop. Red snapper was fried so hard it was difficult to eat. The man n cheese was terrible apparently they use cheese wiz or some type of artificial cheese. The collard green dip was majority cheese light on the greens. Wow. I can't believe I waited this long to come to this place. The food was fabulous. I was here for a work happy hour for the holidays and I was super excited to finally come try this place. First off I want to say it is black owned and I love that. Parking lot was so not what I expected....but in a GOOD way!! Free parking in the front and parking in the back that's also free. (As along as you park in the space that says "7th street". Service was excellent. Loved the decor inside and the music that they played was awesome. ( Janet Jackson's "That's the way love goes" came on and I was hooked) I prefer a French 75 and it was delicious. I had the stuff shrimp and where we child. Fantastic. I've been here twice now and after a 2nd try I will not be returning. I don't live in Charlotte, but come often to visit friends. My first visit I came with 3 other friends to get brunch on a Saturday before the Rich & Bennett St. Patrick's Day Bar Crawl since it's a short walk to where the kick-off block party was. This past Saturday I returned with a 2 other friends for brunch before the same event. The restaurant was rebranded recently and is now called "Don's." Not much change to the Brunch menu options, but the prices for a few items have increased so check your menu. Before I discuss why I won't be returning, I will say that I did not have an issue with my servers or the actual restaurant staff at all. They were great both times. I feel the issues I experienced were due to management and organization. March 2023 visit: We made a reservation online about a week prior to our visit. On our way to the restaurant we were unfortunately caught in the road closures due to the St. Patrick's Day parade. We called the restaurant to let them know about our delay and ended up having to get out and walk to the restaurant. We were only about 10 minutes late, but I'm aware that even being 10 minutes late can cause a huge disruption due to other reservations and walk-ins. With that being said, we ended up waiting well over an hour as well as many other people, even people who were on time for their reservation. It was clear the systems were not functional or effective. March 2024 visit: Since we had a long wait last year, we decided to give it another try but make an earlier reservation. We got caught in the road closures again this year, but when we arrived the restaurant wasn't packed or crowded at all. The host greeted us and checked us in then let us know our table was almost ready, but that we could take a seat at the bar. We went to the bar and ordered a drink and didn't have to wait that long for our table to be ready (no complaints there). Our server quickly greeted us and and asked if we wanted anything else to drink and took my friend's drink order. We looked at the menu prior and knew what we wanted so we went ahead and ordered our food. I ordered the Breakfast Sampler with scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and pork bacon. One of my friends ordered the Salmon & Grits. My other friend wanted whiting and grits, but since that wasn't an option she asked if she could get a side of grits and an order of the whiting. Apparently this was a menu option prior to the rebranding so our server figured out getting that for my friend. My friend who ordered the whiting and grits received her meal first after about 10 minutes. The rest of us hadn't received our meals and after a few minutes we told our friend to go ahead and eat so her food didn't get cold. Then after about 10 or so minutes my other friend received her Salmon & Grits...The server who brought over the Salmon & Grits let us know there was some issue in the kitchen and that my meal (Breakfast sampler) was coming up soon. I waited another 15 minutes for my food to come out. Now in that time I saw tables get their chicken & waffles, wings, fries, etc. who came in and ordered after us. I ordered 3 scrambled eggs, potatoes, and bacon...there's no way that should've taken longer than all of those other dishes even with a kitchen error or issue. I finally received my food and it was below mediocre. The eggs were nothing special, the bacon was paper thin and greasy, and the potatoes were slimy. I don't know if it was too much oil or what, but they were not appetizing. I waited almost 40 minutes for that?! I ate because at that point I was starving and needed something to eat before doing a bar crawl so I really didn't have any other option. We were told that we would receive a 15% discount by the server who brought our food then asked if we could speak to the manager and were told that he was the one who was in the kitchen cooking. Our actual server worked something out and we received a 50% off discount (and made sure to tip her what she was owed without a discount because she was great and very apologetic for something that was not her fault). Lastly, I don't mind paying for quality food and service, but this food is overpriced. The Breakfast Sampler which includes: 3 eggs, potatoes or grits, and turkey or pork bacon is $18. $18?! That's way too much for less food than you get at Waffle House. The Salmon & Grits with a cajun cream sauce cost $30. Literally just salmon, grits, and sauce. Below mediocre food...slow kitchen service...and unreasonable prices. Don't recommend and will not be back. read more

If there is one thing Charlotte knows how to do it's make you realize that nothing is ever worth the hype. Disappointed in my experience to say the least. I'll just get to the point. I ordered the chicken and red velvet waffles. I felt like I was eating crunchy air because there was zero flavor. The chicken tasted like the flour and oil it was fried in. No salt, not spices, nothing. The wings are big and fried hard. So that's a positive if you're into that. Nothing about that red velvet waffle was red velvet but the color. Again, no flavor. If you get a piece that has the cream cheese drizzle on it you'll taste that but disappointed to say the least. Especially for $25. Mimosa carafe was cool but I'd rather a restaurant give me the juice on the side and not pour it in themselves. Overall I heard one person out of the 8 in my party say they enjoyed their food and it was lemon pepper wings. The atmosphere was nice and the staff were lovely. We arrived a hour before they were closing for the brunch portion of the day. I ordered the seafood platter which was fried shrimp and whiting, then a side of fries. I ordered just a plain waffle on the side. Amor was our server and she was excellent--attentive, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. The fish and grits were flat-out bad: the fish was dry and flavorless, and the grits had no seasoning at all. To make matters worse, the bottle of brut I ordered was already open when it was brought to the table. I didn't realize it until after pouring a glass, but that's something that should never happen. Eat a snack before you come because you are going to wait! Came here for a Sunday Brunch at 2:15PM, we had reservations, and our table of 4 was quickly seated. Our server greeted us and brought water to the table quickly. We ordered a bottle of champagne and 1 mimosa carafe, which came out timely. Once we got our drinks we were ready to order our food. Around the table we had a variety of meals, there was two orders of catfish and grits, chicken and waffles, french toast, and 3 fried chicken wings. All of which are fairly simple meals and it took just under 65 minutes for us to receive our food. Crazy right? Our server was very apologetic but at that point we were just ready to eat. When everything got to the table it was fresh and piping hot but the taste was just OK. The restaurant wasn't super busy but I'm not sure how much help there was in the kitchen. I used to frequent 7th a few years ago when I was in the area more and it was always pretty slow service on busy nights but not like this. It's Sunday so we Brunch'N. February is Black History month and we selected to dine at 7th Restaurant and support local. This black-owned business is located in the heart of Uptown Charlotte across from the Spectrum Center. When we arrived at 11am we were surprised to see they had free parking. Since we were the first customers there we actually got to pick out seating. Our server took our drink order and returned swifty with a pitcher of orange mimosa and water. We ordered their famous and highly recommended chicken & red velvet waffles, fish & grits and 7th Sampler. We were both very pleased with the portion size and the food was well seasoned and flavorful. We'll definitely be returning soon. read more

Fortunately I read the reviews before coming. We made reservations for brunch and decided in advance to order EVERYTHING as soon as the waitress approached the table to introduce herself. Unfortunately, the waitress greeted us for the first time and brought water to the table 20+ minutes after we were seated. When the waitress showed up, we ordered drinks, appetizers, and entrees all at once. It took another 10-15 minutes for the mimosas to arrive. Exactly 33 minutes after submitting our entire order, the entrees arrived (yes, I set a timer on my phone to see if the reviews were accurate ). Keep in mind, we ordered AFTER waiting 20+ minutes for our waitress to greet us. The salmon bites were great. I liked the mambo shrimp although my friend didn't. The entrees didn't have much flavor. They lacked seasoning, which I read in previous reviews, but I still remained hopeful. The mimosas were delicious! Sweeter than usual. The waitress was also fantastic. It's so good when you can have true soul food, but also good when it's elevated. The food was elevated, but it wasn't fantastic. We ordered takeout and the meals were cool. We ordered the shrimp and grits, that was delicious but it felt more like an appetizer than a meal. The Salmón burger wasn't bad, but the bread was overwhelming. The fries were good though. Tonight is my first time at this location. It was 10:15pm when my party arrived. There were 3 waitress who couldn't decide where to seat 5 guest. We got our drink order 2 min of sitting down. If we had never asked another waitress who is taking our order we will be sitting for another 20 min. Out of the 3 working no one felt the need to assist and a group came in behind us at 10:30 seated, food, and drinks order taken. I wont come back to dine in due to poor customer service. This is not my first time at this restaurant but may be my last. We were there for my friend's birthday dinner which was a large party which is fine we made prior reservations. Now mind you reservations were at 7 pm on a Saturday night. There was one server for the entire restaurant, one bartender and maybe one chef for all i know. It took almost 30-40 minutes to get all of our drinks out. One of my friends ordered a French 75 and it had ICE in it, she sent it back. She returned in about 2 minutes and i am pretty sure they just drained the ice and put it in a new cup. So we called the manager over and she remade it. One of my friends never got her food until we were leaving...why if all of us ordered at the same time did one person not get their food until we were leaving at 9:30 pm. I ordered a side, an entree and a drink my bill was $80! That's a bit much for lack luster service. Our server was doing the absolute best she could and i commend her because I don't know if I could do it. I love supporting black business, especially the ones that provide a combo of great food, great music and great service. 7th street almost hits all these markers for the most part for me. I definitely suggest this as a place to try for a girls or guys night out. They offer complimentary parking and they also have a club next door called 321 that you can also visit. The wait for the food wasn't long. Our server was Amor, she was kind and attentive. She was not the problem. We ordered the French toast and chicken and waffles. The waffle was great and chicken was very good. I was thoroughly disappointed in the French toast. We had two separate orders of French toast and neither of us were impressed. Neither the appearance nor the flavor of the French toast. It wasn't anything worth 25$. Salmon bites were nothing to talk about as well. The manager comes by at the end and asks us how the food was and I tell her that it wasn't great. She claims that we can't complain about the food and not give her a chance to fix it. I let our server know that it was not good during the middle of our meal. Manager gets us two more orders of French toast and claims that they will be better when the kitchen remakes them. A review is an opinion and I didn't enjoy someone trying to talk me out of writing an honest review. The proper response from management should have been would you like to try something else and an apology. Not that she had it this morning and it tasted good to her. Obviously, your food would be delicious because you are in charge. I frequent many restaurants and this by far has been the most disheartening experience concerning customer service from management. I did try the other French toast (try to "make it right") and it tasted like it was made on different bread as you can see on the last picture (it was fine). Had brunch here to celebrate a girlfriend's birthday. Because of the small setting reservations are suggested for a large party. There were 7 in our party with one server. She was very nice and attentive. The food came out in a decent time. We had salmon bites for an appetizer which were great. I ordered French toast with cream cheese and chicken. I opted out of the strawberry syrup for regular syrup. I do appreciate that the wings were. It greasy but they did lack seasoning.
