We have been here multiple times. I started with a Bloody Mary which was my favorite. We enjoyed the seafood spinach dip appetizer, boiled shrimp had excellent flavor, and half fried shrimp and etouffee. The etouffee had a great spice to it. The servers were all friendly and made great suggestions from the menu. One recommendation was the crawfish ravioli......amazing!!!!!! I was so excited about this place, we are from Wisconsin, love Cajun and creole food, the place looks awesome. My blackened redfish was really good. The Mac and cheese was fine. My husbands entire dinner was cold, like real cold. He got the seafood platter, plus a cup of gumbo, so I think $45 for his meal, the stuffed crab was good, fried catfish was great, etoufee was good, nothing to write home about. Gumbo was decent. I'll start by saying I don't frivolously throw around 5 star reviews. I just use Yelp and take the advice of friends. Our friends are hosting a big event this October at Don's and we decided to check it out early since we were in town. So thankful we did! This place does seafood right! For appetizers hubby had the gator tail half fried and half grilled. We also shared the spinach dip with crabmeat. It came with tortilla chips but our waitress recommended we try it with their bread and it was delicious. Hubby loved the gator both fried and grilled equally. For our entrees we both had the fried catfish and red beans & rice! Everything was seasoned perfectly with just the right amount of kick.. no additional seasoning required.. near the end of the meal we took bread pudding to go and enjoyed it over the next few days. The portion sizes were abundant and we ate so much we almost had to be rolled out of there! Looking forward to our next visit! Our waitress was bubbly and accommodating! She checked on us frequently and made great recommendations! You'll love the interior booths surrounding the bar where we could see oysters set afire on the grill. It gave the place such a pleasant aroma! We live in Florida but we're making plans to stop by before the event in October! Oh yes sir. They nailed it!!! The crawfish was perfect!!! We just couldn't get enough!!! They were seasoned perfectly! We ate 25 lbs between 3 of us!!!! Then the service was even better!! Our server Keelee was amazing! She kept our drinks full and shell buckets empty!!! Everyone we came in contact with was polite and smiling which really makes your experience a pleasure!!!! Searched for a good seafood restaurant while in Hammond Louisiana and came up with Don's Seafood Restaurant. Easy to find - when we arrived, it was very busy. Even if it was busy, we were seated right away. Browsing the menu, they have a great selection of seafood - shrimp, fish, platters, combos, etc. Prices are excellent for the large amount of food you get! We split a combo platter and an order of fried shrimp. All of the food was excellent! Some of the best tasting shrimp I've had anywhere! Hush puppies were also very good! Great sweet tea! First time ever being here and was not disappointed, service was very quick. With a party of 10 took only an hour to get food. That's really good timing, got my drink fairly quick as well. While on business travel teaching, I stopped in for lunch at the Hammond Louisiana location 1915 South Morrison Blvd. I had asked the hotel for a recommendation for seafood and they highly recommended this place and I will have to say they were spot on. The crabcakes were absolutely delicious and I loved the crawfish on top with the sauce. It had a little bit of kick and was just right. Since it was lunchtime, I didn't go as heavy so I ended up getting their grilled shrimp Caesar salad with blue cheese dressing and it as well was excellent, but I have to see the crab cakes made the day. My servers name was Caroline, but she goes by Caro for short. If you ever happen to visit this location ask for her as I am certain, you will be inspired by her natural personality and smile but also her willingness to serve with excellence, and make sure that you had a good experience. When I do yelp reviews, it's not often I mention servers by name however, her service was above and beyond, and was worthy of a shout out. The atmosphere is pretty typical of a seafood restaurant a little noisy for me but I did enjoy the oyster bar view as well as they had TVs with sports on so that was a plus but again I could only imagine this place on a super busy night how loud it would be, but I'm not very fond of loud noise environments to be honest but again the food was worth it read more

We arrived a bit early without a reservation on a Saturday night. After about a 15 minute wait we were seated outside on the patio. A very pleasant Madison came and took our drink and App order. A beer, two waters, a coke and boudin balls. Drinks arrived quickly and the app shortly thereafter. The Boudin balls were excellent. Hot and flavorful and the dipping sauce finished them off nicely. For entrees my son ordered a 1/2 shrimp and 1/2 catfish with fries and slaw. I had the small shrimp dinner with fries and slaw. Ambiance was excellent, nice atmosphere, not too noisy. Happy place on a Saturday night. Food arrived. The dinners were special. I don't know if it was because we were in the truck for 8 hours and we were hungry; but the food was delicious. Stopped to eat here on our way home from New Orleans. We saw good reviews, and it definitely lived up to all of them! There was a bit of a wait to be seated, but we are always willing to wait for some good food! The seafood spinach dip was delicious, although it could use some better quality chips that are more crunchy to pair with the creamy dip. 8/10 The Stuffed Catfish was DELICIOUS. I do wish there was some sort of creamy sauce to go over the top to compliment that little kick of spice that it has, but other than that still absolutely delicious as is. 9/10 The Seafood Platter was Huge!!! Definitely enough for two people. All of the stuffed food was phenomenal, regular fried foods were above average but nothing to call home about. We were traveling on our way through Hammond. We searched for a local establishment that had traditional shrimp Poboys. We were not disappointed. We wish we were hungrier so we could try out some of the oysters. They were cooking them over flame and they looked delicious. Maybe next time. Great experience! UODATE:06/25/2022! I'm late in posting this addition. I just wanted to acknowledge that Don's Seafood Mgmt., DID CONTACT ME! And considering my review, they were nothing but gracious. They actually pointed out that my entree was not properly prepared according to their meal standards, both with regard to what normally was supposed to make up their shrimp tacos, and also, their standards of quality. The Mgmt Representative with whom I was in contact took things a step further and stated that he would take my suggestions for potential additions and/or changes to their shrimp tacos to their regular internal Executive Mgmt meeting for review and discussion. Which really impressed me, because not many Companies in their position are willing to admit an error, much less honestly and proactively respond to a Customer's complaint/suggestions by escalating those concerns all the way to the Executive Mgmt. Level that can actually implement immediate changes. Also, I will state that on their side, there was an issue with Don's Seafood Mgmt's receipt of my email. Fortunately, they have now implemented a new process to ensure that any Customer Complaints submitted via email, will not fall through the technology cracks in the future. Having said that, a large portion of the "WHY?" it took so long for them to contact me, is MY OWN FAULT! Because, I wrote a YELP! Review, but it did not show my email address. I then submitted information via email, which they could not automatically tie back to my Yelp Review or Me.‍ side TIP: When Contacting a Company DIRECTLY about Your Yelp Review Experience, be sure to submit to them Your YELP Review Account Identification, so that they know THAT Email and THAT YELP Review BOTH go together! ‍ This is an overly long Update, because I wanted to explain how both sides of this Yelp experience made minor mistakes that (are now corrected.) And, because I wanted to explain what actions Don's Seafood took that throughly impressed me as a potential Customer. I initially stated to Don's Seafood that I had the impression from their previous posts to other less than stellar reviewers, that Don's really seemed to care about their Customers, and I was right. While what I was told about potential future changes/additions, and suggestion reviews could have all been just lip service to pacify a Customer, I do not believe that is the case. The impression I have is that Don's Seafood Mgmt DOES really care about their Customer's experiences. They also far exceeded my expectations when it came to responding to criticism. They honestly do seem to want to "Do Better". You hear it all the time now when there is a failure in a process or someone comes away from an experience unhappy. However, when it comes to Don's. Seafood Mgmt., I truly believe that they DO actively strive to DO BETTER in the future, so BRAVO!! to Don's Seafood!! KUDOS!, for not only "caring", but for also actively trying to "BE BETTER!" in the Future! Thank You!! Q= Would I go to and/or Order from Don's Seafood Restaurant, again? After my communications with Don's Seafood Mgmt,, Absolutely!! I'm willing to give them another shot! Plus, as I said in the beginning, there are many other locals who adore Don's Seafood's food. Q = Would I RECOMMEND Don's Seafood Restaurant to OTHERS?? YES!, and for all of the reasons I stated above, and the fact that if something does not meet Your expectations then I would hope that You would speak up then and there, and/or contact thee Mgmt Team and explain to them what occurred. It's true. Louisiana restaurant customers are tough to please. We are from a state known for great food and impeccable service. Louisiana wait staff know instinctively not to refill a tea glass without asking. It's an unwritten law. As a Louisiana woman, I am no exception. I'm even tougher considering I come from a background of restaurant owners. Having said that - I want you to go to Don's Seafood which I give my seal of approval. The wait staff is friendly and are able to help you with decisions from the more than ample menu. The food is savory and delicious. I recommend the crab claws and hushpuppies as appetizers, the Trout topped with lump crabmeat or the crabmeat au gratin as entrees. I generally skip deserts so you are on your own there! Been going to Don's for years and haven't been in a while so was really excited to go again. Things have changed in their food and was really disappointed since the last time we ate there. Got grilled oysters, ate 3 and gave the rest away! Went again and got fried oysters and same thing. Also got a seafood salad which has been my favorite for 60+ years and it really was nothing like the old days and not sure why they would change a winner. Wow. Where to start? Sat at the bar on Mother's Day. Absolutely no greeting from the bar staff. Had to ask for drinks' list. At the bar. Had to ask for silverware. After the food arrived. Seafood gumbo was dark and tasted only of the roux even though there was plenty shrimp and crab. The shrimp remoulade was embarrassingly tasteless. Thank goodness we ordered the fried crab claws. Or else I would've left both disappointed and hungry. They were plentiful, hot, and perfectly fried. The wine list is sadly lacking good choices but we did enjoy the Rosé. Now back to the bar/oyster bar staff. You have to interrupt their gab fest to get their attention. And from what I observed, cleanliness seems a problem. Lots of touching different things and no sanitation of hands and utensils in between. As for the oysters? I do not recommend. We asked about their freshness after watching them pour something from a squirt bottle. Salt water. To make them taste fresher. From being shucked hours ago. And those are the raw. The ones that go in the grill were apparently shucked days ago. According to a staff member. This restaurant does not do Louisiana proud. Same rating as before. This time the red beans & rice were as plentiful as before, and the hush puppies were golden, light and crisp, not overcooked like last time. I also ordered a cup of chicken andouille gumbo and it was warm & tasty! The bread was delicious although had less butter than the first time I visited. However the catfish was very small pieces compared to the last time that I came. Perhaps since I came in at about 9pm and they close at 10pm. Everything was delicious, everyone was welcoming and service was impeccable. Especially, Gavin our waiter. He really made Sandy's birthday special. Please ask for him when you visit! My wife and I are native to the N.O. area and we retired in TN about eight years ago. One thing that you miss for sure about N.O. area is family, friends and FOOD cooked right! So when the oportunity arose we visited Don's Seafood with our family (12) to celibrate my wife's birthday. She wanted Crab Augratin and Don's has the best. Given the reviews appears to be kind of "polar" either real good or real bad I tried this place with some reservations. Bottom line is the the catfish was excellent and so were the shrimp.
