So many years that have made if back to Lafayette and today we are here. The food is delicious. That Crawfish Bisque is heaven in a bowl although crawfish was dry since I a child hasn't been. We still ate it....ALL. Hubs had Crabmeat stuffed Catfish, Au Gratin Potato and their heavenly green beans. He had nothing left. I had the Crabmeat Au Gratin since I was a child. Have come full circle now. Everything was the same. I just eat as much so Hubs has dinner for him for hotel. Prices are pricey, but food is worth it. The interior is lovely. Service was good, but not spot empty glasses. It was ok because I gave him have my water. Love looking at the prices from the 30s and 70s. What a difference. Everything has changed so much in Lafayette. It was hard for me to remember where was anything was located, but found Don's. So glad we did. read more

We love Dons! The upbeat loud vibe in the bar area and the great service but last night the food missed the usual mark! The hush puppies were greasy and all the fried items on the 2 platters were overcooked. The best tasting item was the beer & blueberry lemondrop! Great place to get a tastes of Cajun and creole food. Food here is not the healthiest but definitely incredibly delicious. This place looks so amazing inside, like an old historic place, which it is :) Service was good. Definitely try our shrimps for appetizers and gator bites -- so good. In town and meeting friends for dinner the suggestion was Dons Seafood. We met at 5:30 and Dons was already rocking. The three of us ate in the bar which has plenty of bar/counter space as well as TVs you watch the current game Denise was our server and she did an excellent job. We started with jacked oysters and fried alligator , both were worth ordering but the Gator was exceptional My entree was the grilled redfish, adult Mac and cheese and green beans. Additionally Dons food and alcohol prices are extremely friendly priced . Let me start by saying that I love Don's seafood gumbo. I was quite disappointed tonight. I called and ordered 2 seafood gumbos and asked how many ounces. They said 12 ounces so I ordered for pick up. I was disappointed to see the size which was about 5 ounces and almost no seafood. They sent rice in a separate container and it looked like the rice serving was larger than the amount of gumbo. Now, I have ordered just a cup before and it came in a larger amount. Just disappointed. It was also a little too salty. I guess I'll get my Lafayette seafood gumbo from somewhere else from now on. read more

DON'S IS TRULY ONE OF A KIND! I'm from Breaux Bridge and have lived in Los Angeles the last 11 years, but every time I come back home, I have to get Don's!!! This time around, we came to celebrate my grandmother's 80th birthday, and we knew the menu was sure to provide everything she'd love (she's a picky one! A true Louisiana cook with high standards, so we had to choose wisely!) Because there were too many of us in the party for a booth, we had to sit at a larger table, meaning we wouldn't get the cushioned seats. Our server kindly accommodated my grandmother with a cushion for her seat so that she could be comfortable! We GREATLY appreciate this, as my granny is older and her bones aren't fond of hard chairs. MAJOR appreciation for the accommodation. Now let's get to the food! I couldn't come and NOT get the stuffed crab! I've eaten this since I was in elementary school, and my mom and I are hooked on it TO THIS DAY! They taste the absolute same! I love it when places don't change the recipe when it isn't broken! And that GUMBO, baby!!! Whew, every bite is absolutely delectable, and they still put the lump crab pieces in there and are never stingy with the shrimp! I love the for that! Ok just to say. We stopped by Dons seafood today for the first time. I have to say, that from the first minute we walked in the door we were treated so good Gene the general manager met us at the door. We told him it was our first time there. He made sure we had a booth like we asked and even came back to check on us. He ask if everything was to our liking. And of course it was beyond what we expected. Our waitress named Alissa with it only being her 4 th day, she done an amazingly awesome job. I would highly recommend this place. The portions were more than adequate. The food was over the top. Just finished eating dinner at Dons. I've had seafood from California to Georgia and from Canada to Belize. Dons is as good as it gets. I recommend you get reservations we had quite a wait, our fault. I had a seafood combo, my lovely wife had the 1/2 catfish 1/2 shrimp all was excellent. Zydeco shrimp for an appetizer, highly recommend. Our waitress was Landen and I must applaud her, absolutely excellent service! I cannot remember the last time that I've been impressed by wait staff. Had the chargrilled oysters at Don's Seafood and baby... they came out HOT and sizzling ‍ They were loaded with that buttery, garlicky flavor and grilled just right. The cheese on top was perfectly melted, and the oysters themselves were juicy and fresh. I was literally dipping my bread in the extra sauce because it was too good to waste. On vacation and was recommended this place. As usual we sat at the bar. Shelby & Kevin greeted us right away. Order some drinks and shrimp appetizer. She then showed us how to eat craw fish as we never had this before. It was interesting, and something I would eat if I was at someone's home. I had catfish and red beans. Wife had catfish Acadian. All was very good. Our service was great with nice conversation. The bar area is very well put together. Sorry no pics of food. Ate it to quickly. This was a recommendation from our bed and breakfast and since it was crawfish season, decided to try it out! My husband got a couple pounds of boiled crawfish. I got the broiled shrimp. Everything tasted great. The only thing I wasn't happy with was my cocktail. I tried the turtle and it was supposed to come with crushed pecans on the rim and it did not. It also didn't look very chocolatey, so I feel like I didn't really get what I asked for but also hate sending stuff back. We didn't have room for dessert, so we skipped it. I ordered the fried seafood platter, and it was extremely overcooked. The grease tasted and smelled like it had been used far too many times, which ruined the entire meal. Fresh seafood deserves fresh oil, and unfortunately that wasn't the experience I had. I was very disappointed with both the quality and the flavor. This is a well-established eatery, and they know how to take care of their customers! We arrived at a busy weekday lunchtime, but it was only a few minutes until a table was available. A full-service bar is available to ease the wait, but that wasn't necessary for this visit. Our lunch was awesome, with a charming atmosphere, great food, and great service! It felt like the kitchen doubled the seasoning by mistake, making it impossible to taste the actual seafood. For the price of a 3-lb crawfish boil, I expected much better balance. The Zydeco Fish Tacos were a hit, but the Seafood Gumbo was disappointing. The broth was tasty, but it was too thin and lacked substance.
