It was our 34th wedding anniversary and our traditional restaurant has closed. Decided to try this restaurant down the road from us. It is a fine Dining restaurant so our first impression was "Yes" it may be good. Our server Jaden was simply a breathe of fresh air. He is 18 years old, hard working and very professional. Let's look at the meal. We started with the oyster bienville and rockerfella...... horrible to say the least. We expected half shells which would make it an oyster, dab of garlic, dab of whatever the item was described...... as you can see in photo, it was a glob with no presentation and taste was just as bad. What more can I say, but another amazing Christmas party at Mazen, excellent service as always and amazing specials. Appetizers were all awesome, shrimp was fresh and nice size, the Tuna so fresh and delicious, just melts in your mouth, crab fingers succulent and sauces enhanced the experience. Entree was the Florentine fish with shrimp sauce on top this was so light, and the fish was second to none, the cubed potatoes was crisp on the outside and soft in the middle, this is one of my top fish dishes of all time. The dessert stole the show this time, a lemon crepe with a ricotta filling, and lemon sauce, this was a new experience in taste, and could not get enough, definite must try for anyone. Mazen is one of those places I tend to forget about due to odd location. The food is consistently outstanding, though. Mazen is one of the few restaurants in town that cooks fish perfectly and the only one with a soufflé regularly available for dessert. I try to get both each visit. The decor is a little dated but cozy. The service can be a bit hit or miss but they are always kind, helpful, and hospitable. read more

Not as good as I remember it being. I find the flavor has drastically decreased. Their crab crepe i remember being amazing and this time I didn't even want to finish it. The grape leaves were decent nothing exciting. The surf and turf was ok. You would have to drown it in the sauce to have flavor. I do love how plentiful they provide their crab topping. The fish was no good. Sad part is the best thing they served was the sliced potatoes. That shouldn't be your stand out. Jacob was an awesome server though. The bread pudding was excellent. read more

I ordered take out a few weeks ago and still thinking about the yummy food s. The crab crepe is utterly amazing. We also loved the lollipop lambchops, grape leaves and crabcakes. Very nice spot. Wasn't busy at all when we came at 7:30 on a Saturday night. When we sat, we were brought pita bread and waters. Our waitress was AWESOME! She told us about all the specials and gave great recommendations. We started with the Cosmopolitan and manhattan drinks. The cosmo was very good, not super sweet! The Manhattan was very much on the strong side (good if you want a stronger and more bitter alcohol). Instead of appetizers, we decided to try the chicken & sausage gumbo and Caesar salad. I loved that the gumbo had a dark and flavorful roux. The Caesar salad was okay, but kind of weird that it came with pecans. For the entrees, we got the veal and lamb. The lamb was VERY good. The veal was good but the lemon reduction became a little much and caused the veal to get a little soggy. Overall, this restaurant is good but more on the pricey side, so be prepared to spend a bit! Nice place. Not too pricey. They tried to sit us in a corner near an accordion separator but moved us when we asked. DO NOT EAT THEIR FOOD FAST! You may find a piece of a toothpick lodged in your throat. Third time I've eaten at a fancy restaurant where I've found toothpicks in their steaks. This one was a big splinter. Sharp sharp. I had the two 3oz filets with crab. I probably will never go again. But the restaurant has a good ambiance. read more

I'll start with the high point of our visit and say quite possibly the best restaurant gumbo I've ever had. I was not expecting that...almost didn't order it. Other than that I had the fish della, which was good but had very little of the sauce that is supposed to come on it in one small corner of the plate which left the fish a little bland, but still with a lot of really good crabmeat on it. Wife ordered the pasta dish and said it was ok but not her favorite. Drinks were also very good. The people at the table next to us were asking what we got and raving about how good everything was and...it seems like the praise is a little bit exaggerated. We had the following: Fish Aladdin - Pan-sautéed fillet of fresh fish topped with jumbo lump crabmeat, served in a lemon, butter saffron sauce - the fish of the day was red fish, and it was very delicious! The fish was really hearty and moist, the sauce was very delicious Rib Eye - U.S.D.A. Prime cut, grilled and served in a three wine reduction sauce. Accented in a hollandaise sauce - the steak was cooked perfect, the reduction was delicious and went well with the steak Chocolate soufflé - my most dessert in Lafayette! Hot gooey soufflé with fresh whipped cream, so delicious!! Make sure to put this order in mid way of your dinner, it takes about 20-30 minutes to make! One word to describe our experience is "Mark"! He was our waiter for the night and he was absolutely amazing! He really took the time to answer all of our questions and describe the menu with full knowledge of every dish. I highly recommend him if you're wanting the full dining experience. He was super patient and very enthusiastic which made our visit even more satisfying. All of his recommendations for us were truly enjoyed. We dined at Mazen Grill for the very first time on the evening of 06/14/2023. My wife ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer as her entree' along with some hummus. I had the fried shrimp, with a side of steamed vegetables and one-half of a stuffed potato. My shrimp looked like they came frozen from a bag. But they were OK. The veggies and the potato were barely warm and unimpressive. Considering the restaurant's pricing and reputation, our dining experience was underwhelming and we were very disappointed. We will probably choose not to return. There are other very good places to dine in Lafayette. read more

We went to Mazen Grill the evening of July 13th to celebrate our anniversary. When we walked through the doors we were greeted by the rudest hostess I've ever encountered. She treated us like we were a bother to her. She sat us at our table and then grabbed the other two place settings like she was pissed at having to do her job. Didn't utter a word to us. She's quite lucky I kept my composure! Then our server came by to take our order. She was pleasant enough, but was rather lacking in service throughout the meal. We had to wait awhile for tea and water. When she brought out our appetizers she said be careful the plates are hot. I had crab crepe, it wasn't hot nor was the plate. It was luke warm as though it had been sitting out awhile. The other appetizer was the crab avocado salad. It was decent. For our entrees we ordered the Fish Barataria. When our entrees came to the table, both were hot, but neither were seasoned...very bland. Finally, the soufflé came and it was good. Mazen Grill has been one of our favorite places to go for celebrations like Christmas and anniversaries, but after our experience with the rude hostess and the disappointing meal...we most likely will spend our money else where. The meal for two was $150.00 including tip...I hate spending that much money for mediocre food and service. read more

My wife has had their Christmas party here for 4 of the last 5 years and the food was always great but it wasn't the main menu. Today though, I brought the full family of 6 here for dinner and it was fantastic. The gumbo was excellent as was the Seared Ahi and. Shrimp cocktail. The family members all tried a different main entree and everything was perfect including the service. To top of all we had cheesecake and chocolate ganache and they were both heaven on a plate. One caution is that this is not a kid friendly place and you won't be seeing burgers and chicken nuggets on the menu. Very disappointed to say the least. We were a table of 4 and ordered Ribeyes and was served Sirloin.that was poor in quality manager/ owner came out and was defensive before he talked to the cook. Tonight, my sons birthday we again went for the 50th time at least. I ordered the 14 oz special strip steak. When I cut into it, one half was well done, the other side was raw! WTF? obviously the chef overcooked one side, flipped for 30 seconds on the other side and served it. For the price you would think that would not happen. Gus, the owner, was right next to me so I tapped him on the shoulder and showed him the two-toned slice that I cut. He acted like, what do you want it to be? What? Appetizers- Hummus wasn't the the greatest but fair. Shrimp advertised as jumbo but small. Entrees- the steaks were tasty and cooked to order but were definitely under weight. Fish was ok, not sure what it was, maybe tilapia? Pasta wasn't worthwhile in our opinion. Sides- square cut fried potatoes (small portion) and a broccoli/cheese something that nobody ate. My son summed it best as tasting like a fart in your mouth. Dessert- first rate chocolate soufflé with homemade whipped cream, best part of the meal. This wonderful restaurant has never served up a disappointment. When dining, I am very particular and I can be very critical. In the years I have been dining there I have found everything spot on. First, the seafood dishes are magnificent. Unlike many restaurants that buy pre-cut and portioned fish, Mazen buys whole fish and fillets them in the kitchen. The owner, Ghassan Harb, is not shy about returning any fish that may seem too old to serve. The preparation of the fish dishes is also exquisite. One of my favorites is the panko crusted red snapper topped with flash fried oysters and lump crabmeat and served with a roasted red pepper hollandaise. Outstanding! (Oh, the flash-fried soft shell crab is also a must have.) Second, I am most particular when it comes to ordering steaks. In my opinion, Mazen serves the very best steaks in Lafayette - hands down. It is safe to say that the quality surpasses the likes of Ruth's Chris and other notable upscale steakhouse chains. The meat is truly prime and, for me, has always been cooked to perfect temperature. (I WILL send a steak back if it is not perfectly cooked to my liking - have never had to do it here). The ribeye is my favorite, however, the rack of lamb is equally superb. Final note - you cannot leave without enjoying one of the fabulous dessert souffles the restaurant offers. In addition to chocolate and grand marnier they also offer an incredible pistachio souffle. This is one Lafayette restaurant that continues to deliver excellence time after time. Try it! read more

In a word; outstanding. The server was so adorable, knowledgable & friendly. To start, we had salads. I had the Mediterranean & my hubby had the avocado crab. Both fresh & delicious. I had a snapper dish w/spinach, mushrooms & artichokes. Dear God, it was amazing! My husband's filet was cooked to perfection. The lump crab meat is premium & they don't skimp on portions. Although Mazen has been around for a few years, I just never pulled the trigger. But Ms. Naked and I decided one night to walk on the wild side. The inside is not what I expected from the view outside. Think overstuffed chairs, heavy wood adornment, and dark. Perfect for our adventure. We asked for a table in a dark corner, well that was no problem. Then we did something we had never done in a restaurant before. We only ordered appetizers no entrées!!! Crazy I know, but they looked and sounded so good we had to try it. We ordered the fried softshell crab, an order of kibbies, and panned seared tuna. The crab was crisp, succulent, and huge. The oversize kibbies were some of the best I have ever had and the tuna was outstanding. All of them were served with unique sauces that were fantastic. Add great service, prices in line with other 5 star competitors, and a smooth house wine gets this place one of my rare 5-star ratings. Well done Mazen, well done. read more

We were looking forward to a great meal and it was very disappointing. It started with a rude employee who greeted us when we walked in and basically tossed our menus in a pile on the table. Luckily our waitress was very sweet. The cocktails we ordered were not good which included flat champagne and a warm martini. On a good note, our appetizers were delicious and I would recommend the crabmeat crepe and crab claws. Three of us ordered the fish and it was not prepared well, aside from the crabmeat topping and lemon butter sauce. I would have expected a lot more from the sides - small, square potatoes and mashed broccoli. The portion of a bowl of shrimp bisque was surprisingly small. I can't imagine the cup size. In addition, the 4% surcharge for using debit/credit card made the meal a total bust. We went with family who raved about this restaurant. They were extremely disappointed as well.
