The bestest braised oxtails I've tasted thus far in LA.
    CalicoKat C.

So... being from Hawaii, I grew up with a fond memory of devouring oxtails. As we were on the road, I put soul food and oxtails in the search bar and wah lah!!! Hit the jackpot! Knowing from past experiences when places have oxtails, they sell out quickly. So I called & asked if they had oxtails & was thrilled they had it. First of all, the staff was so friendly & welcoming. The braised oxtails came with two sides. I chose potato salad & red beans & rice. Your choice of corn bread or roll. While we were waiting with anticipation, the cute lil diner was adorned with Christmas decor. Typically when we order at a counter, they call your name or number, and you come up to the front to pick up your order. But... here at Soul Haus, they cheerfully bring your order to you. They ask you if you need anything else. My husband requested extra tartar sauce because it's so tasty. The braised oxtails was what I expected & even better. Tender, juicy, succulent, great flavor. The catfish was tender, not oily, great lil crunch to it. Hubby made a comment that they even have a drive through if you need it to geaux. Great experience & we even tipped them. Words from the terminator, "I'll be back!"

"Food That Heals the Soul" I don't usually leave reviews, but the soul food here truly lived up to its name. Every bite tasted like it was made with love and patience. The flavors were rich, comforting, and exactly what I needed. It wasn't just good food -- it honestly healed my soul after a long week. If you're looking for a place that serves real, home-style soul food that hits deep, this is it. I'll definitely be coming back.

First time trying the Soul Haus, and was very impressed. Excellent customer service. There's a daily special which is good value and really like the flavors. The.bbq chicken was very tender and the sauce enhanced, the bbq ribs was fall of the bone, would have liked a little smoke or grill char but was still very good, the sides beans and rice nicely done, and the Mac and cheese was creamy, but the star was the dirty rice which comes with the order, this was delicious you can tell care was put into this. Do sit down and dine in, as it clean and inviting. Will definitely be back.

Very good homestyle food at a reasonable price! The portions are large and the people are very friendly!

    Crawfish Etouffee with Catfish

After some procrastinating on my part. I finally decided to give this place a try. I ordered the Crawfish Etouffee with white rice and potatoes salad (it had small chunks of potatoes, not a fan of that) and green beans. The green beans and the catfish were the best part of the meal. The Etouffee lacked that true Creole Crawfish Etouffee flavor and color. It was just bland with no flavor whatsoever. The rice was a little sticky but edible. The service was great and price was okay.

Food, service, and ambiance was spectacularly awesome. I ordered the red beans and rice, wing, greens, and mashed potatoes with a side of meatloaf. I enjoyed my plate and would definitely come back! One of the best soul foods I've had in a long time.

    Smothered Chicken Wednesday Special

I just had the smothered chicken lunch special for the first time and it was great! They provide generous portions and I'll easily be able to make 2 meals out of this. The chicken had really good flavor and was falling off the bone. The rice was cooked perfectly and they had a great balance of rice to gravy. The mac n cheese & green bean sides were average but the corn bread was very tasty. All that for under $15. I'm very happy I tried this place today and will definitely be going back to see what else I've been missing out on. Additional details about the restaurant - There is ample parking in that shopping center. The restaurant was very clean and the workers were prompt and friendly. They have contactless payment for those who use Apple wallet. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes with a quality meal. Great for a short lunch break! Ditch traditional fast food and support local businesses like this to get real bang for your buck.

Food was good especially the fried shrimp . I would've loved a grilled option for the shrimp.

The first time, I ordered the barbecue ribs served over rice dressing, and they were tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. On my second visit, I tried the smothered okra, which came with a whole quarter piece of chicken and sausage over rice--comfort food at its finest. For my last visit, I couldn't resist the ribs again, this time paired with yams, coleslaw, and pork stew. Every dish tasted like it was made with love right in someone's home kitchen. The staff is kind and welcoming, and even though there's usually a line if you arrive later in the day, it moves quickly. They're only open a few days a week from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., so plan ahead for lunch or an early dinner. The menu changes daily, but there's always a reliable grill menu to choose from. Inside, the setting is casual and relaxed--just what you'd want while enjoying a plate of real Louisiana soul food

I think they need a new recipe for the cornbread dressing and the macaroni and cheese. These two items were extremely lackluster and not good at all. Now, the ribs, candied yams and the roast pork were great and delish but those other sides need some help. The cornbread dressing was dark brown teetering on black in color, which I've never seen in my life. And the macaroni was just that with little to no cheese. The atmosphere is also very inviting and comfortable to sit and dine in. I meant I would return and try other options because the lady at the register was super sweet and kind but in all honesty, those two sides need a recipe overhaul.

We met friends of a friend for lunch here arriving around 10:30 AM so glad we arrived early. Upon entering the whole place is decorated 'Cajun' style, purple and gold and all things Louisiana. Walk down a step over to the back of the restaurant where the food is served cafeteria style. You can get it in a to-go container (highly recommend) or on a platter. We all chose the to-go container because he piled on the so good food!! Smothered ribs, white rice, collard greens, stuffed turkey, shrimp stew, corn, etc. The menu changes depending on the day of the week; we were there on a Thursday. Consensus amongst our group was that ALL food items were delicious. The whole staff was very friendly and helpful, quick to answer all of our many questions.
