I visited on a late afternoon on Saturday. Bright and clean dining area. There were a few people dining and a few picking up to go orders. Easy to read menus and the cashier helped recommend some dishes. I had the pozole verde and a carnitas taco with everything. And a big Mexican Coke in a bottle. The taco was fresh and delicious along with pickled carrot. The pozole was flavorful, rich, loaded with hominy and pork chunks, and a huge portion along with corn tortillas. I couldn't even finish! I was craving street tacos from LA and all the Mexican restaurants I have tried haven't hit the spot. I decided to give Donut Hole a try due to the wonderful reviews on google. The place was clean and nice atmosphere. The girl that took our order was courteous and good service was provided. The girl at the donut shop was also very nice and answered all my questions politely. Now, for the good stuff I had a Agua Mineral and tacos. I ordered two tacos de Asada and two tacos de tripa. The tripa was crispy and delicious. Melts in your mouth. The asada was flavorful... over all 9.0 out of 10 the salsa could be spicer but delicious. Limon, and a carrot was provided. read more

I think there should be opportunity to review the donut side separately from the Mexican food side, as they seem quite disparate in the quality and experience. This review is for donuts .We had a similar experience as above. The donuts were few ( no fresh tray sitting there) and even tho the apple fritters did NOT Look good, we got them anyway. Mea culpa-- we knew they were 2-3 days old, and they were. My coffee lid was defective ( and extremely flimsy) and I used my scissors to cut it open so I could drink it. This place is only good if you're completely wasted. Tacos: small and made with very low quality meat... glands and guts galore. Donuts: taste like fried...like drinking the oil from a deep fryer. This was my favorite place to come to but I noticed they charged me 15 cents per taco to have the meat well done. It wouldn't be a big deal IF it was actually well done. We got tacos de tripa which they also have an upcharge for the type of meat it is. This is all recent since my last visit. I paid nearly $50 for 15 tacos. That's ridiculous! Our neighbor is a chef and recommended the Donut Hole for their bean burritos because he is vegetarian. I love a good bean burrito, but they had me at Tortas when I walked in and saw the menu. 100% the best Ive ever had. I got carnitas and along with the usual toppings they also add fresh avocado, pickled hot mix (to die for on this sandwich!), cojita and super fresh, nice fat tomato slices. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, every bite is a mouth watering surprise. My wife gets the chorizo and egg burrito and says it's the best chorizo she's ever had. We're native Phoenicians, recently transplanted to PV... we eat A LOT of Mexican food. To top it off, the service is excellent. Super friendly and quick. Which neither were correct as no one showed up until 6:15. 3 other customer left before they got there out of frustration. On informed us while waiting that in fact yesterday it was the same problem and the excuse was the cook overslept. Then similar to another complaint I was over charged for my order. Breakfast burritos are now correctly listed at $5.99 on the menu. How Weber they attempted to charge me almost $8 for it. I questioned the overcharge and I was given the difference. We've been giving the bakery side a chance one too many times. The baked "goods" we had were VERY dry (as in, likely leftovers from the previous day dry). Yay!!! We finally found it! And who would have known it would be at a place called Donut Hole. We've been looking for the good street tacos found in the big city and we finally found it. The Al Pastor tacos were perfect and carnitas torta was tasty! The corn cup is not elotes but more like just buttered corn with some jalapeños. I'll skip that next time. This is authentic Mexican food. We just ordered the bean burritos and carne asada tacos. I was the only gringa so I knew I had found the right spot. The burrito had a delicious sabor but there was tooo much cheese. The mild salsa was excellente but a little spicy. This is my go to restaurante for really good Mexican food at a reasonable price. We've lived in Prescott Valley for over 6 months and this is the closest thing that we could find to what we were used to in Dallas. pretty much everywhere else we've been here just did not live up to our expectations. We ordered tacos al pastor and a carnitas torta. The tacos had good flavor and the meat was not too fatty. The torta had great flavor as well. The torta was a little different than some places, as there was no avocado or refried beans. Consisted of good torta bread, mayonnaise, tomato, lettuce, slice of cheese and tender shredded carnitas. The salsas had good flavor and were not too spicy, although the salsa rojo had a little more of a kick. Overall, a great place for authentic food, and a large, complete menu. read more

First of all, this is a Mexican donut Shop with Mexican food! So no, do not expect the sweet, fluffy, regular glazed donuts that you are used to. Mexican donuts, pastries and cookies are not as sweet as American donuts, keep that in mind when ordering. I myself, LOVE Mexican pastries and always stop in to get my fix, when I am in town! this is the only Mexican pastry shop in Prescott Valley, so yes I frequent it a lot! If you're a donut connoisseur, the standard raised glazed aren't going to impress you and you'll likely pass on finishing it as I did. To me, the raised glazed donuts are simply are not worth the calories. They are too heavy and dense and the glaze is not very sweet. What a great find!! If it hadn't been for yelp, I would probably have never stopped by just based off the name. I was looking for a traditional Mexican food spot like the taco stands, trucks and small places I grew up with in LA. Im a sucker for a great burrito and I have to try everything on this menu, but its so hard to get past the burrito here. Ive had the tacos which are 100% legit street tacos you'd find off a truck or LA street cart. Yesterday I ordered a carnitas torta, so good, and of course I ordered an asada burrito and half dozen tamales to go, yes its off the menu Ill have to keep trying other items off the menu including the sopas and enchiladas plates they have. The bakery has donuts of course, but also youll find traditional Mexican bakery items too for a heads up. Come check it out, you wont be disappointed. read more

Awful! There. I said it. I took some time to think about this before posting a review, because of how shockingly awful the items I bought were. A couple weeks have passed and I am ready to face what happened, deal with it, and put it all behind me. The young woman at the counter was friendly and helpful. I asked for recommendations since I've never eaten any of the colorful and beautiful Mexican Pan Dulces I've seen for 40-odd years in Arizona. (Yeah, I know. I have no excuse.) I asked her for 2 "of the best." The first one was a crispy, flakey "Orejas" (Puff Pastry Ears). It had a nice sweet cinnamon flavor, but was so dry and brittle that each bite brought on an explosion of dry Orejas dander flakes that covered my beard and shirt. I had to dust off between bites, but I persevered. I'm thinking, "Is that normal? Am I doing something wrong here?." I just might eat one of these again, but I would break it up over the sink first, and dunk it in my coffee before going in for a messy bite. The next pan dulce was a Marranitos (Molasses Gingerbread Pigs), which is supposed to be, according to Wikipedia, "Moist and rich-tasting beneath a glossy, ever-so-slightly flaky top. Not quite cookie, not quite cake." Sounds delightful! But... THIS porcine abomination was as dry and nasty and bitter as the Mojave desert. I could barely chew and swallow the first bite! (I swear I'm not embellishing here.) I decided I needed third-party validation. So, I put it on a plate and cut several several small pieces off. Without saying anything, I enlisted my adult daughter and her always-hungry friends to eat a piece and tell me what they thought. The looks on their faces as they tried to chew the piggy pastry filled me with guilt. No one would eat a second piece! Their collective scowls haunt me to this day. I left what was uneaten on the counter uncovered for 3 days. Not even the sugar ants would go near it. Mother Mary and Joseph was that thing bitter! I photographed what was left of the piggy's body and posted it here before sending him to his final resting place en la basura. Finally, there were the deceptively beautiful croissants I bought. They were nearly rock hard. At first I thought maybe they just had a crispy firm exterior. Oh, no. They were solid! I sliced them clean through with a dull bread knife without one single flake off or dent to the exterior. I don't think a French baker could make one like that if he tried. They were simply inedible like that. I had to either steam them, or use an old line cook's trick of buttering and flat-griddling them, with a fine spray of water, then cover the pan with a dome, just to make them chewable. I did the latter... Surprise! The flavor was good! (But what bread that's flat-griddled in butter isn't oh so tasty?) And to boot, everything was so pricey. I don't know anything about the other food they serve. They had no regular menus or take out menus -- just a big video screen with pictures of food selections. The counters by the cash register were stacked with Mexican dulces, and other items that give the feel of a mini-mart instead of a restaurant. They would not allow me to take pictures inside of "The Hole." (I didn't yet know of the baked good horrors to come when I asked about taking photos. But now, I think I understand the rule.) And lastly, outside on the front wall, right next to their "The Donut Hole" wooden sign, was a GIANT poster of young, tough looking Latino men with a bold caption that reads "LIFE AFTER METH." Breakfast burrito heaven. This has become my personal favorite restaurant to get breakfast burritos at! I absolutely love the freshness of the burrito and the green sauce is extraordinary. Obviously they have donuts and other odds and ends that are good but for me it's the soft, fresh, hot, perfect size, delicious green sauce breakfast burrito. I absolutely have to mention it's reasonable price and that I no longer bother with it's neighboring business. The inside of the establishment has been made larger and you can really take the time to sit and enjoy the food. If you're looking for that early morning fill up, don't bother with gas stations or even the business next door, go here! read more
