I have now been to Kalavera's 3 times. The service has always been excellent. The food is authentic Mexican food from Northern Mexico recipes. I have been in the Prescott area for 5 yrs and rate this as one of the very best Mexican food restaurants. It is on my list of favorites and I will confirm going there. This is a gem of a place! I frequently eat Mexican food and decided to try a new place. I'm glad I did! I got my usual Mexican items. Cheese enchilada and chile relleno with rice and beans. The enchilada was excellent but the chile relleno was the best I've had in a long time. Just packed full of amazing gooey cheese. Amazing! I will go back just for that alone. Well, I came here for lunch with a friend who had been here several times before. She warned me that it in no way compared to the Mexican food we can find in CA (or in my own kitchen), but that it was better than many of the other Mexican food restaurants in the area. With that said, I agreed to try it..The place is located on a rather busy little thoroughfare, but it is surrounded by two Mexican markets and several other Mexican food places, so do beware and choose wisely. Kalavera's is a restaurant that I had seen advertised on social media and the decor somewhat caught my attention. It reminds me a bit of Día de los Muertos and has a good mellow vibe upon entering. Unfortunately, their wasn't a hostess to be found, but we heard noise in the bar and the "bartender" said we could sit wherever we liked. We chose a booth in the bar area, but even after sitting there for at least 8-10 minutes we still hadn't gotten menus at our table... (-1star). After my asking for menus, we did get them and our server/bartender quickly took our drink orders. Being that they don't serve Coke products (- 1 star), I settled for an iced tea and my friend chose water. Please note that they do have a full bar (they must not serve Jack n Cokes ) and it looked well stocked. The menu we received was the lunch menu and was somewhat limited on options. My friend chose the #2 Combo, which only comes with a choice of one entree and beans and rice. She chose a Chicken Tamale and requested the "green sauce" on the side. She told me I would like it much better than the dry bland red sauce we received along with chips and a bean dip when our drinks were brought out to us. I wanted a carne asada burrito (because how can you possibly mess up a meat burrito?), but my only option was the Kalavera Burrito. It unfortunately had way too much stuff in it, but I omitted, the charro beans, green/red sauce, sour cream, rice, and asked that the guacamole be brought on the side. Price was going to be the same no matter what.. Anyway, food took a bit to come out, but my burrito was okay. The carne asada was marinated nicely, but could've used a bit more salt (if any) and I really wish they had a spicier salsa. The green sauce had a minimal bite too it, but it too was somewhat bland. Nevertheless, I ate half my burrito and my friend finished her tamale and side of beans. She did say that she always orders the tamale, so I'm guessing she liked it! Food was served hot, but not once did our server come back to ask us if everything was okay (-1 star). The check came next and we were done! Now, would I ever go back? Probably not. Came back again and the service is just as welcoming. Good Cold beer and great chips and dip while we waited for the food. All of the food was amazing. Definitely recommend. Service isn't necessarily fast but it is good. The waitress was happy and accommodating. read more

Their fish soup was not what I expected from a Mexican restaurant and was just okay. There was no tomato base which is what I've had in other Mexican restaurant establishments. I haven't tried any of their other meals and may give them another try in the future but I'm not sure. read more

The food here is so flavorful, all the beef in our entrees were tender and juicy, really just hit the spot. The serving sizes are large, so after we were finished, there was plenty to take home! New place in Prescott Valley.A must try! Family owned and opened about a month ago. Liquor license is due to be operational on 01/13/2025. Patio to open come warm weather and has limited mountain views. The chef has about 40 years experience working in restaurants and thank goodness has now decided to open his own restaurant. There are approximately 16 inside tables, setup for groups of 4 and bar seating. The interior is clean and decorated in a modern vibe. There is ample parking. You are started off with complimentary chips, salsa and cheesy bean dip. The salsa is good and very mild. The bean dip is soooo good! I was scrapping the bowl. The fajita steak quesadilla, located in appetizers,is so delicious you will not want to share. The steak is delicious, juicy and tender. This is the same steak they use in other dishes. If you are a meat eater, give it a try. You will not be disappointed. My husband had the Always Burrito and said it was good but kept going back to the quesadilla. I had the Sopa de Albondigas and really enjoyed it. It was a full meal. It is chocked full of veggies and 4 meatballs. You are also offered some tortillas on the side. As always I added a side of rice into my soup. The rice was cooked just right. The texture was soft without being mushy. We had a side of cheese dip. The portion is large and the flavor good. I do prefer a little spicy heat in my cheese dip but this is very mild. We were so full we were unable to sample the dessert menu but will do so on our next visit, along with their bar! Server Zulema was great! Complimentary chips and salsa came with bean dip (Loved the bean dip). We asked for a spicier salsa and got this green creamy sauce that had a nice kick! We liked it so much we bought a 10 oz container of it for $5.99! It was Taco Tuesday so I tried one. The ground beef taco is only taco for $1.89 on Tuesday and it was crunchy, flavorful, and not greasy at all....very good. I had the cheese enchilada special with rice and beans. It had good cheese and a wonderful red sauce! I'd order that again. My wife had the Hatch chile Relleno plate which came with rice and beans. It was a mild chile but with the green creamy spicy sauce it was right up her alley! BTW the Relleno was huge. We had house Margs (they have a full bar) with it all and they topped off a very nice meal. Overall a great experience we definitely recommend this place. Really disappointing. We miss what this place used to be before Kalavera took over. It's so gentrified now and not at all authentic. The seafood cocktails and campechana are disgusting. The juice used is supposed to be Clamato but they used something so extremely watered down, that the entire dish ended up being bland no matter how much salsa and limes we put in it. In addition, the menu says "shrimp OR octopus cocktail" in both English & Spanish. However, when my dad ordered octopus, both the server and the cook said that isn't an option unless he is ok with paying $2 more. me and my husband went to try these new place out On Spouse and we ordered the tacos for taco Tuesday and we got ground beef tacos. The meat was not seasoned at all. It was so bland. It was terrible. We bought 10 tacos and got home and for us to throw that stuff out wasn't seasoning wasn't cooked right didn't even taste right the shell was greasy. I would not recommend this place. We would never go back to there ever again. My taco take better than this you guys need to season your food. Thanks local neighborhood bar please get with your cook. Tried out the Kalavera restaurant on Spouse near Robert's road. Yummy! Once for dinner as once for breakfast. Clean, and simply decorated, with cute salt and pepper shakers. My husband loves shrimp and there were plenty of options for him. These shrimp were decent sized and perfectly cooked. Our dishes were not drenched in sauces which is one of my issues with Mexican food here. Service was great, friendly and helpful. Give it a try!! read more

We really wanted to try this place due to being labeled on Yelp for the seafood selection. And they DID NOT disappoint. My husband had shrimp burrito and I had something that's name started with Campa...something. (kind of like Ceviche with Octopus, and assorted seafood along with the shrimp. They were both fresh, plentiful, and DELICIOUS!!. We also liked that they offered salsa and bean/cheese dip with the complimentary chips. Both dips were delish. The staff is amazing! And when I tried my "Black Margarita" it was very very good, but a little less tart than I like (mostly due to my adding Grand Marnier side shot, since they didnt have Hennesy or other Cognac that I like to add in my margaritas). The bar tender came out and made another drink, slightly different, and it was really really good. I didn't expect them to do that as I said the Black Margarita was good. But was very impressed that she did! My husband and I like to linger after a dinner for a drink and talk and they in no way tried to rush us out. VERY accomodating and great service! On they way out we met the ?owner or ?manager and he was absolutely professional and appreciative of how we feltl about our enjoyable experience at his establishment. It took them at least 15 minutes to bring out our food. The food was literally bland. There was no flavor to the rice, the beans or the enchilada. To boot, they overcharged us $5.00 for the specials.
