Have loved the donut house for years!!! Has not been uncommon for me to drive from Mount Vernon to The Donut House for a single donut. Have flown Donut House Donuts as far away as Florida. Always a stop for out of town friends!!! Imagine how shocked I felt when at 8:06pm on a Friday night I stopped with out of town family and there were only 3 donuts in the case!!! This place has always been a great place for donuts my entire life. People from the valley and Whidbey come all the way here for their donuts. My only wish is that they'd do a remodel. I have only been here once so far last time I was in Anacortes. Maybe my expectations were too high from all the glowing reviews. They did have a large selection of donuts to choose from and the prices were about on par with other donut shops. As far as quality, I did like their donuts. There was absolutely nothing wrong with them. But they were nothing out of the ordinary or over the top amazing like some reviews have stated. Just my opinion! The other this that surprised me was that the interior was really tiny, the seating area felt run down and dreary. I wouldn't choose to sit down and eat there personally. Overall, good donuts for if you are in town. I don't know that I would make a special trip though. read more

I say it again, I LOVE this place. My Port Townsend mom and I went here with a few people to grab ice cream after coming back from the San Juans, on the lovely, Adventuress. Although I am Lactose Intolerant, there was a bakery as well. I got a bearclaw, and the guy who was behind the cashier was Asian and striked up a conversation with me.He was friendly, and conversed with me in Chinese. I have been stopping in at the Donut House for years, nearly every time I find my way to Anacortes or the Skagit Valley. They have just about every standard donut type here. These are some of the best donuts you'll find anywhere. They all seem to be super-sized. I usually go for the blueberry fritters, which are about the size of a dinner plate. I'm really wavering between 3 and 4 stars here. On the plus side, they have some delicious looking donuts! The 2 I have tasted have had great flavor. Now why I can't give them 5 stars. Of the 2 I have tasted, one was still doughy inside (undercooked.) The man who helped me was very impatient, rushing me into making a decision within a minute or two of walking in. I'd never been there before and sort of wanted a chance to look, but he was pushy, impatient, and never smiled. And my last issue is with pricing. I don't recall exact prices, but it was around $3-$4 per premium donut. I got 7 donuts and it came to $12? There was no indication on the menu that there was any kind of dozen/half dozen pricing so I'm confused. Maybe I hit them on an off day. I'll certainly go again, but I'll know (sort of) what I'm walking in to! Update: From my first visit, I probably would have downgraded them to two stars. I had one donut that was undercooked and two that were burned black on the bottom. But I went back before returning home and got some to bring to my husband and those were much better. The grumpy man wasn't there, but still no smiling (one person in back smiled at me when she was summoning another worker to come take my order, but nobody taking orders has smiled at me yet) and nothing that I would call customer service of any sort. My primary complaint is that there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with the oil they use. It is either rancid or maybe they flavor it with fish. Im not sure If I have ever been so grossed out, and I couldnt get the taste out of mouth after one nibble from a fritter. Or maybe they buy recycled oil from Bob's Chowder house? Also, the people that work there do not seem happy nor are they friendly. Be prepared to pay 25c for paying with a card. How was the Donut House? That is the question...it's PHENOMENAL! Well, what happened was...it's was a Saturday night, about 8:45 PM and I say, "I want some donuts." Naturally, I didn't have any donuts in the house and my loving husband says, "We should go to the Donut House tomorrow and get some." Well, it's not like it's just down the road; we live about 45 miles North of Anacortes, WA and I said, "Nah, that's OK, I'll be fine without them." Oh no, that would never work for him; it was like he had been waiting for a reason to go get these donuts and I said the magic words, "I want." The next morning we got up, got dressed and drove down in the drizzly rain for donuts--it was a decision I will never regret. We parked and went in to this delightful donut heaven on earth and made our order. Mind, you there are only the two of us and we got 8 of the most ginormous, fresh, tasty fried dough that dreams are made of. There is no way I could say which one was my favorite from the humble glazed traditional ones, the blueberry fritter, the strawberry fritter or the almond bar thing. I've lived in anacortes 13yrs, been to the donut house lots. Today my kid bought 2 apple fritters brought em home. We both spit out the first bites, They tasted old, real old. Dried out no flavor old. I took them in, to get replacements, The oriental lady i couldn't understand waved the husband over who was cooking and he through a fit. started sayin stuff in a language i didn't understand. i complimented his donuts and said these must be old. Which pissed him off more. On a Sunday drive we stopped for a donut. I'm glad we did, it was delicious. I had the angel cream donut. Yummy! My friends had donuts too, not sure which ones, but they were happy with them. They seemed to have a good selection and the service was pretty friendly though it seemed a little stand offish and the coffee was meh, they need to up their coffee game. Let's see. I like the Old Fashion donuts with all different kinds of glazes. The cake donuts with sprinkles are good. The fritters are good. The service is often lacking a bit, but the donuts make up for it. This is a huge step ahead of Safeway donuts. They are open all hours of the night and day. They are wheelchair accessible as well, which having recently been in a wheelchair made me deeply appreciate businesses that bother to cater to that. read more

These were the best doughnuts my husband and I have ever had! They are so delicious! We are visiting the area and wanted some coffee and something to eat. We saw it while passing through town and are so glad we stopped by! We got an Almond Bearclaw, a Blueberry Cream Cheese Bowtie, a maple bar, and a Baravarian Cream Chocolate bar. So let me just start by saying that I'm pretty picky about my donuts and will quite happily debate the merits of Blue Star vs Voodoo with Portland friends. Having said that this place ranks up there! Not super notable from the outside it's just a little shop about 15 minutes from the San Juan ferry terminal. They're also open 24/7 which makes them very convenient. My personal fav was the Chocolate Old Fashioned but almost everything looked great including the giant Buttermilk Bars. The size is even more impressive when you realize most items are only 2-3$. It's a hit and miss. The selection they offer is impressive. The product can either be perfect or greasy and overcooked, like burnt crispy fritters. I couldn't eat mine, it was nauseating. However, when they have the bow ties, (blueberry cream are my favorite), they are wonderful. The biggest problem though is being consistent with keeping the case full. It's often empty. I like that it's open 24/7 but it's no good with nothing to sell. Oyster Run weekend they were absolutely NOT prepared. As far as customer service, they are nice but communicating to broken english can be frustrating. read more

I am going to warn you right now that I am a total donut whore. I am not even sure what that means, but somehow it just makes sense to me. I have a total weakness for donuts and will travel great distances, from time to time, to satisfy my need for this fatty goodness. I lived in Anacortes several years ago and discovered this place then. I make a pilgrimage now and again, when I decide it's ok to ignore my gluten intolerance and treat myself. They make the donuts fresh all day and have a nice variety, including some monster size donuts. You can definitely share these, but I won't guarantee that you will want to. I believe that most donut spots are better at some dough's than others, i.e. cake, raised or old fashioned and make my recommendations accordingly. With that said, the only type of donut I would avoid here would be the old fashioned. Too dry, no real defining flavor. More like a cake donut turned old fashioned. However, it's game on for every other donut in the joint. I don't say that about just anywhere. Although I am typically a raised donut kind of a gal, I have really enjoyed the cake and buttermilk donuts here. They make this huge buttermilk donut with some kind of jelly filling that you shouldn't bother tasting unless you are prepared to have more than a bite. Another one is a chocolate cream filled donut. Genius! If they have one when you stop by and you love chocolate creaminess as much as I do, love yourself and have one. When it comes to donut fillings I have not found another place that comes close to this place. I usually just like bavarian cream, but all of the fillings here are excellent, even the ones I typically don't like. The fillings include vanilla creme, chocolate, mocha, the jellys and the bavarian cream which I thought I liked it until I had it here; I LOVED it. These are the largest and freshest donuts I think I have ever had. I tried a blueberry fritter. The blueberry fritter was terrific. Sweet, moist inside, fresh, crunchy outside! The maple and chocolate bars are about 50% wider than what one would get at a normal donut store. The service is very friendly. They have a drive through and I think are open 24/7! I am a tourist visiting and I was treated horribly by the staff. Supplies were not maintained and the seating area was dirty, but the cashier treated me so disrespectfully it really soured my opinion of Anacortes. The man could barely speak any English nor could he understand us. We went there another time during the day and they didn't have any donuts!
