This was definitely a great donut! It's really cool they are open so late and it came HIGHLY recommended by our family but the staff member was pretty rude. She acted like she was upset that we were in the store the entire time we were in there. And when I asked for a box for my donuts I was bringing home (since I'm driving an hour) she rolled her eyes at me. I'm sure this was irregular but it was still a very disappointing experience after looking forward to this as they were out of donuts the last time I was up this way. I still recommend stopping by. I've seen this place going into town a few times and had time to stop in with my daughter. The reviews seemed promising. The donuts were ok. I've definitely had better donuts from grocery stores. They had a nice selection but I was expecting better from a donut shop. Guess I should have tried a fritter. The reason why I put so few stars is because the whole interior could use a power wash. The kitchen is in need of a good scrub down. If I had been paying attention when I purchased the donuts I probably would have walked out. All the tables were dirty and it wasn't busy. The last straw for me was because I went in to the drive through to get some donuts and the Asian woman (who I assume is the owner) was inordinately rude. She kept rolling her eyes when I would ask her questions. The menu board was filthy and I couldn't read it well, as I tried to find what I wanted I asked her questions which seemed to make her angry, she kept making unpleasant faces and talking over me. This review is about service alone: The person who helped us was extremely aggressive and not at all helpful. She was very pushy and tried to make us take donuts we didn't want and told her repeatedly we didn't want. She was neglectful and disorganized when we asked if there were any donuts not in the case. Imagine a cool fall evening in Anacortes, a beer festival, and a late-night craving for something other than fast food. A quick Yelp search gave us our answer: DONUT HOUSE! So we pulled in, shocked (pleasantly so) that they were open at such a late hour, and grabbed a few for the road. I gotta say, these donuts are heavenly! I got my standards: a maple old-fashioned and an apple fritter. The dude got something with chocolate, something with sprinkles, and a few extras to bring home to the kids. This review is NOT about Krispy Kreme. Read on... So I grew up liking doughnuts. Then when I was 25(ish) I tried Krispy Kreme. Krispy Kreme ruined me. I mean really, you can't eat a typical grocery doughnut ever again after trying the almighty melt-in-your-mouth Krispy Kreme. In fact, grocery doughnuts taste like bland dry cakey crap to me now. Fast forward 5 years and I try a Krispy Kreme after 1 year of doughnut sobriety. I no longer appreciate Krispy Kreme. Why? Most likely due to our economic collapse of 2009, they decided to make their doughnuts smaller AND raise the prices (WTH). While it may keep them in business, I won't be back; and that's probably not good for business. Then I found the Donut House. Life is good again. Think huge doughnuts, great prices, and oh so YUMMAY! A much better value then KK, and you know what? I like them better. I LOVE the Apple Fritters (OMG). 1 of these is more than enough for 2. This place is usually amazing. The gal behind the counter seemed inpatient. I have some cognitive issues and it takes me a bit to get my words out and thoughts together. I made a special stop this morning to treat my grandchildren. My order dropped off the counter and onto the floor. All the server said was, wow they didn't even come out of the bag. The donuts are heavy and with three in the bag they were a mess. I was embarrassed they looked so terrible. My daughters house is just minutes away. I made a call after I returned home, explained my situation and was told I'll pass it on. No I'm sorry or comeback and we will re do it another morning. No offer of a credit. We used to stop in Anacortes at the Donut shop regularly for years and often found the small place almost packed with people. It wasn't unusual at all for us to run into people we knew there who were also customers. My husband liked the bagels and my kids and I liked the donuts and they had reliable wifi for free so you could check your email etc. We sure have noticed that some of that has changed alot ever since this place changed ownership a year or so back. The 3 times we have stopped there since we have found on all occasions that the place was almost deserted. Twice we were the only customers when we stopped by. And they now still advertise free wifi outside the front door but it you try it it doesn't work and they just say "it's down" both times we tried to use it several months apart. My husband was so turned off by what he called "the cold attitude" of the new owners that he won't step inside the store anymore and took a walk with the kids. I thought their donuts were still tasty but after this second time with no wifi and being the only customer I left a short time later. read more

Love love love the Donut House! On our way to visit family on Whidbey Island from Seattle we always make sure to stop here and fill up. Since we always leave late it happens to be perfect that they're open all day and all night. I personally cannot stay away from the buttermilk bars or the blueberry fritter or the raised glazed or the... anything! My boyfriend is a maple-anything fan and he compares all others to the Donut House. Most everything is larger than the usual. Of course if you just happen to arrive when they are placing fresh donuts out, I recommend just getting whatever it is and biting in as soon as possible. I have three complaints: 1) Sometimes they run out of donuts (especially late at night) but they usually are making them at that time anyway! 2) Some of the employees can be less than impressed with actually serving customers, les sigh. But it's not the end of the world. 3) The coffee drinks are terrible. They're reasonably priced so my boyfriend will inevitably get one, sip some, and then slap himself on the forehead.
