Absolutely the BEST Donuts! This was my first time trying their donuts, and WOW -- they were seriously some of the best donuts I've ever had! They were incredibly fresh, soft, fluffy, and absolutely delicious. You can definitely taste the quality in every bite. I came in today 5/5/26 a Tuesday morning at around 5:30am or so and ordered 2 dozen donut holes. The woman behind the counter seemed perturbed and said she didn't have any and that it would be -- emphasis on: -- A WHILE until they were ready. I said, oh no, I drove all the way here for them, I ain't leavin, I'll wait. She hollered back to the cooks and asked how long on the donut holes and they said it would be about 10 to 15 minutes. I said I was fine with waiting and I picked out some donuts from the case. Listen. I get it. You want fresh donuts for everyone. You don't want customers waiting even though you have designated dine-in seating that I have seen made use of on a Sunday morning by the 60+ sect with copies of the day's newspaper available to them for reading. But I was nothing if not fully and totally amenable to the prospect of waiting. I drove out here, I used the gas, and frankly, it was all I wanted for my order. I came specifically for the donut holes and the extra donuts were for my bf. It's not to say he doesn't like them, he very much does but he can't get his mitts in fast enough to get them before I gobble them all down like some sort of baked goods hobbit goblin. My Precious(es). I like that the sugar glaze makes them crunch and you can taste the butter. They're light and airy and they make me happy. Anyways. I would like to note that the last time I put an order in ahead of time, it got lost in the shuffle and when I came to pick it up, it wasn't ready and instead of taking the risk and missing out, I just went to the shop and ordered them right there and I figured by doing so close enough to open, they'd have donut holes available. I didn't know they were essentially made to order but I presume since I arrived a half hour after they opened, they surely must have simply run out. To that end, I don't see how it would really matter all that much who buys them and how much of them are bought considering you're still getting paid, whether it's my money or Burt's, our cash is still the same shade of green and still fits the same way in your register. So time ticks on, I'm waiting, another lady purposefully walks in and walks around the counter with all the authority and lateness I would expect from a managerial type. I couldn't make out all of what was said but I did hear, ".....No. She's waiting on a dozen donut holes..." So then I got concerned bc I thought they were gonna cheap me out and only give me a dozen when I paid for 2 so when I got my donut holes I asked for another dozen. The manager possibly owner type takes my box and puts another dozen in. I ask if that makes 3 dozen and she said, "I actually put more than that in there." All of what I'm recounting to you should ultimately be what one might consider a 5 star review but I can't bring myself to do it. I don't know what is going on with customer service in general but I blame the cost of living crisis. It's pushed a bunch of ppl who have no business interacting with customers into jobs where they have to interact with customers and they are doing a horrible job if it. It's not rocket science. Customer service has the easiest formula on earth: 10 foot rule; you see a customer w/in 10ft of you, you say hello and ask them if you can help them with anything. They give you their order You say: Great choice, but it's gonna be about 10 to 15 minutes, are you okay with waiting for the best donuts in the twin cities? Customer says yes. You: Sounds good. Here's a newspaper if you want something to read. End of interaction until you hand me my order. Very simple. What you don't do is try and talk me out of giving you my money. And when I try to give you MORE of my money, you don't respond like I just told you your cat has cancer. You just give me my f*cking donuts and you smile and we f*ck off until I see you again when I want a lard and carbo bomb in 7 months man. Why is this such a difficult concept? I'm not even asking you to be fake nice to be but don't try and weird me out of buying your sh*t. What's the point then? Alternately, when the elderly ladies are working, placing an order has them diving for donuts like they're dodging a Blitzkrieg. It's very unnecessarily chaotic. I would be okay with changing my review if they maybe take it down a notch but I doubt they will. read more

Let's just say, it's hard to find a good donut in MN. However, Donut hut does it right. Their dough is perfectly moist and not dry like most places you see. Especially delicious is the raised donuts. We arrived at 8:40 AM on a Saturday morning and waited for about 20 minutes in line. There were plenty of donut options, but I would expect a line on a weekend morning if that's the time you choose to go. Food: 4.5/5. All of the donuts we had were fresh and overall very light dough compared to other comparable donuts that can be oil saturated (these were not oil saturated at all). Service: 4/5. There were only 2 people working the donut line and checkout. Having even one extra person I think could have made things go much quicker. They prefer cash and charge extra for card usage, so don't be surprised by this for a local small shop. Ambiance: 3/5. This is a very small mom and pop type local donut shop. When we were not on a low carb diet their Apple Fritters were a breakfast favorite. The crust on the Fritters covered 100% of the surfaces. The sugar glazing enhanced and sealed in the crispness. We are now off our diet but something at Donut Hut has changed. The fritters are now soft and have lost that every bite crunch. They have some huge cinnamon rolls as well as braided long doughnuts and some in form of a flower that are just so good. You definitely do need to arrive super early early in the morning to be able to see the complete selection. They go by fast and aren't open for that long depending on the day. It was a rough week at work for my team and when we finally made it to Friday I thought I'd bring in doughnut holes. I wanted the old school traditional doughnut holes that I remember from my childhood, which I didn't realize would be so hard to find among the new agey cereal-&-bacon-on-the-donut places. I read about Donut Hut from a yelper's review of a different doughnut shop but because they described it as a "no frills mom and pop shop" I knew this was the one for me. I arrived around 7:15 on a Friday morning and there was a sizeable line out the door. They limit the inside capacity to 2 people ordering at a time so the line moved quickly. I got 3 dozen doughnut holes ($2.50/dozen) and headed out. My coworkers dug into them as soon as I walked in with that white box and they all commented on how fresh and light they were with the perfect amount of icing. Any place with a long line out the door is usually worth it. This is definitely true for Donut Hut. read more

Used to be the go to place for donuts in the area. New management took over a while ago but quality remained the same. In the last few months they have gotten awful. The young girls working the counter in the mornings are rude and talk about customers while they are still standing at the counter. I had donut hut a number of years ago but it had been a while. I was in the area today so I decided to stop in and get some donuts. They are freshly made each day and you can for sure taste it!! I got a glazed twist, a vanilla frosted twist and a raspberry filled sugar coated donut. We loved all of them and for sure will be back. The woman working was so kind. I recently visited Donut Hut in the early morning. I had high expectations, as City Pages has ranked this place as one of the "top ten" places in the Twin Cities for donuts. I ordered a maple glazed raised donut, an old fashioned, and an apple fritter. I think it was a little over $3 for three donuts, so they were a good price in my opinion. The maple glaze raised donut was delicious. It was thick, airy on the inside, and had the perfect consistency on the outside. The old fashioned was mediocre at best. The outside had a nice crunch to it, which I appreciate on an old fashioned. I thought it had been a bit over cooked. It really had no flavor whatsoever. That was the most disappointing past. The apple fritter, once again, seemed to have an issue of being over cooked. The outside was perfectly crispy, but the inside was way too chewy. It also had a burnt taste to it. Overall, the only good donut was the maple glazed. I can get the same donut around the Twin Cities at other donut shops. The other two staples of a true, good donut shop, fell short of my expectations. On a positive note, the worker was pleasant, and the store was stocked full of donut choices. read more
