Visited 6/14/26. Haven't been to the Buttered Tin in a while but was so glad I did a post- St. Paul farmers market brunch with friends here. They were working really hard to get people to tables which was appreciated. You order at the counter so it may be worth looking up the menu in advance if you have a hard time, making decisions. Great variety of drink options as well. You can't go wrong with the scratch kitchen and I honestly feel like you could get anything on the menu and have it be good. On this occasion, I got the Caribbean grain bowl. I thought it was incredibly flavorful with a fun mix of textures-would definitely order again. My friends are also very happy with their respective meals, and one of my friends recently told me that she has been back two times since.

    Fresh coffee. Very good.

Went to The Buttered Tin in St. Paul after volunteering nearby. We had a great experience! The staff were dealing with a really awful situation left behind by another customer, but they handled it with so much grace! I ordered breakfast (served all day) and the sunflower toast...OMG! Star of the show! The entire meal was hot and fresh. Then we hit the bakery. I've had their frozen rolls before, so I knew the caramel rolls would be good, but it was even better than expected. Also shared a peach hand pie and loved it. Will absolutely be back.

Mmmmmmmm yum. Met up with a friend to catch up over some brunch and left with that feeling you get from a warm smile, a good hug and a good meal. @thebutteredtin was on my to do list for a looong time and man was I missing out. Here's what we had: Favorite Thing: Cinnamon Roll with cream cheese frosting. Wow. Probably the best I've had in years... maybe ever. Buttered Tin Hash. Once you mix it up with all the flavors and chili crunch.... Whoa. Really good and unique. Will crave this dish again. Side of French Toast. I'm a sucker when it's made on fancy bread. Walleye Cake Benedict Iced Latte & Iced Chai were both awesome There were more things we wanted to try so will have to be back for more. The staff were all so nice. It felt like visiting friends chatting with them and made our visit that much sweeter. We went to the St. Paul location. They also have a spot in NE Minneapolis. Don't wait to check this spot out. If you know what's good for you, get that Cinnamon Roll. For more awesome food spots check out the account mallorymademetryitmn on Instagram!

Biscuits and gravy was so good. Walked by 5 table outside and everyone who had it basically was cleaning there plates. I did the same once mine arrived!

Biscuts and gravy for John and truffle mushroom for me! Oh, so good!

Fantastic! So friendly and accommodating! It's a nice and relaxed space with little nooks and crannies to sit. Music is eclectic which is refreshing as we are allergic to Western. The Truffle Mushroom special was so good! The arugula was a great pairing! Compliments to the chef and prep cooks! John really liked his B and G!

I was staying downtown for a weekend and had to go to this place both mornings I was in the area. It is THAT good! It's a cute restaurant on the corner with lots of windows that provide natural light. We were seated and given menus to order at the counter. The food came out quickly and was very delicious. Some of the menu items tried on both visits were the pigs eye breakfast, biscuits and gravy and avocado toast. All items were fresh and tasty! I didn't try the bakery items here since I was so full but next time I will need to get something to go. They have lots of pastries that look mouthwatering.

Caramel iced latte, banana foster French toast, and the house salad as a side.

Took myself on a solo date and was seated promptly. The French toast was delicious, but a tad too overwhelmingly sweet, so I'm glad I got the house salad, which consisted of mixed greens, pickled onions, and a vinaigrette. It was my first time here and will likely go again!

Went for a week day breakfast. You order at the counter, get a number and find a seat. Food came quickly and was hot. Items that are available gluten free or vegetarian are marked on the menu, but for GF items aren't extensive. Street parking (metered) is closest parking with a paid lot on the opposite side of the block.

Was in St.Paul for the week and stopped here about 3 of the days for breakfast! Super good and they have some sweets to pick up if that's your jive. I got the sausage and gravy and it was 5/5 and very flavorful. My roommate got the bacon and poached egg everyday from here and never complained lol. I would definitely add this to your list for breakfast or lunch.

Really great beautiful place! The service was outstanding. They helped us choose between dishes. Then the food came!!! Perfect presentation, the flavors! Can only recommend!!!

Everything was amazing! The French toast melted in your mouth. The lemon lavender mimosa was delightful! Portions were huge! I liked the order at the counter and then get served at your seat model as it kept things moving at a nice pace! We will definitely be back!

The food was to be expected, but my overall expectations based on the customer service was low quality...which is definitely important (coming from a customer visiting from out of town). Upon arrival, I was waiting by the sign that said wait here to be seated...but there was no host in sight, and after a few looks, I was told to go in line (by another customer) when I asked where I should stand while waiting to be seated. It was an unnecessary confusion for so many people waiting around. When I got to the front of the line, the lady at the cash register just said, "Oh, you don't have a number?" & rang up my order and gave me a number after that, which I was thankful for that. I was trying to simply enjoy my meal, but after getting up to use the bathroom (I had to wait a bit for that, as you need a code, which one of the workers there simply said the number out loud...which I tried to confirm was for the bathrooms? She kept walking)...my plate of food that I was finishing, was taken away and only my coffee and vitamin on the napkin I was using was left. I did not wish to cause a scene, but I did let my voice be heard, and let someone know who was working within eye sight behind the counter area that a portion of my food had been taken away and let her know that I had just tipped as well (while walking towards the bathrooms). I even let her know this was my one meal a day and obviously I wasn't happy about that (I probably had a good half of a plate left over, that I would have gladly taken back to my suite to finish up eating later!). She simply asked my table number, but didn't actually DO anything about it...if I was serving at the restaurant, I would have at least given a side of hash browns or maybe even a refund was called for. But nothing...I quickly left, shaking my head at the lack of basic customer service etiquette, empathy, & awareness. Based on my experience, I will not be returning.

Always a great choice. Friendly staff and yummy menu choices. Easy in & out, with street parking usually ample.

From the hostess who graciously held the doors open for us in the 95° heat to our incredible server, David, everything was outstanding. We started with cocktails. I had what may have been the best bourbon Old Fashioned I've ever tasted, and my wife enjoyed a wonderfully refreshing cocktail (whose name I, unfortunately, can't remember). We began our meal with the roasted Brussels sprouts. Normally, I'm not much of a Brussels sprouts fan, but I happily cleaned the plate. My wife and I shared the 12-ounce filet mignon, cooked medium rare, and it was absolute perfection. Chef's kiss. David recommended a bottle of wine to pair with our steak. It wasn't inexpensive, but it was worth every penny. But wait... there's more. As incredible as that wine was with the filet, it somehow paired even better (yes, I know that sounds impossible) with the slice of heaven they call chocolate cake. I'm sure it has a much fancier name on the menu, but "slice of heaven" seems more accurate. If you've read my other reviews, you know I have a tendency toward hyperbole. If there were ever a time to lean into it, this is it. THIS MEAL WAS FANTASTIC. THE AMBIANCE WAS PERFECT. THE FOOD WAS EXCEPTIONAL. AND THE COMPANY WAS DIVINE. We will absolutely be back--and when we do, we'll be asking for a table in David's section. (He works Tuesday through Friday.)

I started with the tequila and mezcal Old Fashioned, and it was fantastic. It was well-balanced, beautifully presented, and garnished perfectly. The food was equally impressive. The wings were delicious--crispy, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. My only small note would be that the celery was a little limp. The Caesar salad has officially been added to my regular rotation. The jammy egg was cooked perfectly with a rich, yolky center that was still easy to slice. The Parmesan crisps were thoughtfully sized, adding great texture without being so large they scraped the roof of your mouth. The salad was evenly dressed, making every bite flavorful. Overall, excellent food, outstanding cocktails, and warm, attentive service. I'll definitely be back.

It was such a thoughtful, personal touch that made the celebration even more special. The food was outstanding. We ordered a little bit of everything, and every dish was delicious, but a few really stood out. The oysters on the half shell were incredibly fresh. The slow roasted prime rib with au jus and creamy horseradish was tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. My favorite was the famous Smothered Ribeye, served over crispy hash browns and topped with sautéed mushrooms, onions, grilled asparagus, and béarnaise sauce. The portion was huge, and I was happy to have leftovers the next day! From the exceptional service to the memorable dining experience and amazing food, Jax Café exceeded our expectations. There were still some things we really enjoyed, though, and I'm glad we gave it a try. We started with the French Onion Soup, which was one of my favorite parts of the meal. I loved that they used croutons instead of one giant piece of bread. Much easier to eat--no fighting with a giant bread raft to get to my soup! The flavor was really nice too. I had the Bolognese Pappardelle, which was good, and my partner really enjoyed his Hanger Steak. He also tried the Garlic Herb Mushrooms, but those weren't really his thing. I ordered the N.A. Lela Punch, and that one surprised me. I wasn't sure about it at first, but it grew on me as I drank it. Apparently we just needed a little time to get acquainted. Dessert was an adventure. I decided to try the White Chocolate Panna Cotta because I'd never had panna cotta before. It was beautifully plated, but this is also how I learned panna cotta has a Jell-O-like texture... and I do not like Jell-O. That's definitely a me problem rather than a criticism of how it was prepared. At least I can officially say I've tried panna cotta! I ended up trying the Crème Brûlée as well. Unfortunately, that wasn't my favorite either. I usually love crème brûlée, but I prefer the custard very smooth and creamy, and this one was thicker than I personally like. My partner had the Chocolate Molten Cake and thought it was okay, but it wasn't a favorite for him either. Overall, Lela had some definite highlights--the French Onion Soup, Bolognese Pappardelle, and Hanger Steak especially--but we also had a few misses. I can understand why other people really enjoy it; it just wasn't quite the restaurant for us. And hey, every restaurant adventure can't end with a new favorite. I also found it concerning that the only people of color in the establishment were seated directly outside the bathroom. While I cannot speak to the reasoning behind the seating arrangement, it was certainly noticeable and uncomfortable. I always tip a minimum of 20% for good service. However, if the establishment believes its servers are entitled to a specific gratuity, then an automatic gratuity should be clearly disclosed and implemented rather than customers being presented with receipts that do not accurately reflect the amount charged to their cards.
