I woke up wanting a donut and Babi said she has a place that she wants me to try. As soon as she opened the door I knew heaven was near. It smells divine. We took a moment to decide just bcus I've not been in an authentic donut shop since I was a kid. We settle on the Glazed Croissant and Peach Fritter for me and OMFG. That glazed croissant gave me lifeeeeeee. It was light and soft and perfect and fresh and not to sweet and every thing I didn't expect. I ate one standing in the dog on place smh. I ordered another to go and I ate that one in the parking lot. Lmao. I bit my peach Fritter and it made my eyes roll in my head. I will definitely be back realllllllllllly soon. Omg. I've yet to have a bad donut from Donut Joe's. Get there early or risk your favorites being sold out. The sour cream old fashioned is melt in your mouth amazing. My kids love the Oreo, m&m, or other crazy concoctions. Our last visit, we slept in, and they were out of apple fritters (which count as 2 donuts if you're getting a dozen) so I tried a peach fritter. Holy Shirtballs it was fantastic! Had to take care of some things out in Pelham and I was wondering if there was a donut shop near by. Luckily for the Yelp app, the first business that pop up were Donut Joe's. This was my first time trying there donut and all I have to say is that I'm impressed with the way there donuts tasted. Sure, like every donut shops, they charge you 99 cents each plus tax, but I didn't mind paying for them just because the service were outstanding as well as the donuts here. I ended up getting the maple bacon donut and don't let the two combination fool you from not trying it because it's actually pretty good. The best doughnuts on the planet. I call them "adult" doughnuts. The lemon filled and raspberry filled aren't covered with glaze, just a sprinkle of powdered sugar. I got the opportunity to finally try Donut Joe's this morning after running a few errands, and it was very much worth the visit. I ended up arriving pretty close to noon, which meant that most of the doughnut options were pretty much wiped [but is a good sign that a) they're freshly made daily, and b) they're that good]. But I still had several options from which to choose, including the very last apple fritter, which I have to say is THE BEST apple fritter I have ever had. Gooey, "apple-y", absolutely out of this world, and friggin' HUGE. So huge in fact, I haven't been able to try any of the other 5 doughnuts I picked up while there. Once I'm ready for my second attack on the half-dozen though, there are offerings like chocolate cake w/ chocolate and caramel frosting/glaze, and yeast doughnuts with vanilla coconut frosting waiting to be tried. (I believe while in the shop I saw a few cannolis as well, and the shop op mentioned that they typically have creme-filled doughnuts as well, but that they all go quick... I didn't get a chance to pick any of those up this visit.) To prevent a long-winded review, I'll just say this - within a few minutes of getting doughnuts from Joe's, getting home, and scarfing down an apple fritter, the place has already made a pretty lasting impression on me. If you're anywhere near the Hoover area, I think it's absolutely worth the extra few minutes' drive to Donut Joe's. Quaint shop, great people, even better doughnuts. ;) read more
