First of all, who in the hell accepts cash only?! That was my first annoyance with the place. The second was that the doughnuts weren't amazing- they were ok and heavy. Long time customer. But things have gone down hill since last visit. Donuts were cold, colder than room temp it seemed. The owner (older gentleman) was very gruff with customers. In 2023 you either need to accept cards or close your doors. It is literally the cost of doing business these days. And over $20 for a dozen donuts. A donut isn't worth that kind of trouble. But they did point out the atm next door, which meant half a block up the highway. read more

If your in the mood for donuts, this is a great place to satisfy your craving. On Sunday mornings they are extremely busy. When I went today, there were at least 8 cars in the drive through and 10 people in line inside. The donuts are worth the wait. Their cinnamon roll is excellent and I've been told their lemon filled is the best in Mandeville. I hate lemon but that statement came from a reliable source. The staff is very friendly and the owner is usually in the store. This location is new and much nicer than their old location. There are three tables for eating in if you decide to stay. read more

This is where I come every time I am in town. The donuts are sheer perfection. I like people watching here, too. The owner is very personable. He saw my son and invited him to come around to pick out his donuts. He joked around with him and really made his day. The place is immaculate. I like the swinging chairs. Growing up in Nola, I could have sworn I used to swing on chairs like that at a donut shop but I cannot remember where. My son begged for donuts this Saturday morning. The young blonde lady serving the drive-thru smiled the whole time; she was just so pleasant- a truly natural "people person." I embarrassed myself by making an order before noticing their huge "CASH/CHECKS ONLY" sign and had to come back. She was very understanding and kind about it. Got donuts through the drive thru this morning. Great quick service. Know they only accept cash or check. We got frosted chocolate donuts and some chocolate donut holes. Donut King is just Ok to me. I always seem to be passing by this place on Sunday mornings and the store is packed and there's a long drive thru line. I don't really get it. To me the donuts are really not that great. In fact it's my least favorite donut shop in Mandeville. Last time I was here I was served my glazed donut hot. There is another donut shop in town that does this. They seem to think it's a bonus to give you a hot donut, but not everybody is crazy about hot ones. I let mine cool off before eating it. I think if they are going to serve hot donuts that they should offer you the option and not just assume that's what everybody wants. read more

I have been told this is the place to buy your donuts in the Mandeville area. Seeing as I have not tried the other donut joints in the area, I can't say the same. I am a fan of their apple turnovers here. They are freaking huge. Give me two of those and a chocolate milk and I'll be your best friend. At least till I'm done eating. The glazed donuts are ok. I can't say they are the best I've ever had. But then again, nothing can replace my beloved McKenzie's. Someone say buttermilk drops? Like any good donut place, it gets crowded on weekend mornings. If I could give it zero stars I would... The owner is a bumbling idiot with anger issues who threw a mop handle into my teenagers face, then blamed it on having a medical issue. My son worked there as a MINOR and put up with this aggressive behavior for too long. In October, two adult employees were SMOKING in the kitchen, which is right behind the counter where customers are served. When my son complained, he was threatened with violence. The owner's wife stated that she would take care of it because apparently the owner is too much of a p#$$y to handle his own business. A month later, those same two ADULT employees again threatened my son in front of the owner and he did nothing. Needless to say he will not be back and I will be filing a complaint with OSHA. read more

Donut King used to be a sat and sun staple for us but not anymore. Nothing better than their hot glazed donuts but that is the problem. I usually pick up donuts between 9:30 and 10:30 and they are never hot anymore. They must cook them early because they aren't hot even at 9:30 anymore. Just not worth it. I can remember Donut King next to a video store with a red police light flashing in the window as I ate Mc.D's before i got on my bike to ride to the jr. High. Well today the building is long gone , but a shrimper now sells his catch at the location. Donut King is alive and well just up hwy 59. The drive thru is always full, as well as the shop. I went inside the store today to get donuts. Two workers (one the owner) working. There was a customer ahead of me purchasing 6 dozen of a variety of donuts. That wasn't the problem at all. The owner greeted me and went to assist a drive up customer that arrived after I walked in and I was already waiting to be helped. The owner proceeded to help about 5 other cars in the drive up as I stood there for 10 minutes. So I left. To me this is poor business and I thought I should my frustration. I usually dont write reviews, and am a pretty laid back person, but I felt the service I received here justified a review. I've visited Donut King twice, and both times felt disappointed by the owner. The first time he was yelling at a young teenage worker behind the counter accusing him of stealing cash. He was being extremely rude and aggressive toward this child, all the while the kid was trying to calmly serve customers since the owner was making a huge disruption. The second time the owner was rude to me. He insisted I said I wanted a dozen donuts so he put them in a box. At checkout he got frustrated with me because he misunderstood I only wanted a couple of donuts, but he used a box to put them in. At the end of checkout he looked away and threw my change on the counter not saying another word. I agree the donuts are great, but I will never be back and support an owner who is both rude and aggressive toward his young workers and customers.
