I love this spot. Over the years, their hours have tightened a bit. But this is one of the only places you can get GOOD, fresh donuts made later in the day. The staff is super kind, the donuts are incredible - Hi, a salted caramel old fashioned? An oreo CRONUT? Tasty apple fritters and a seasonal apple crumble cake donut that has the perfect amount of autumn spice?! - and I may have been there enough to have personally funded continuing education for one or two of their staff members. It's pretty far north for someone who lives in Lee's Summit. But I found myself in the area and couldn't resist bringing my wife some donuts from here. I had two of them as well. I heeded other reviews I had read and ordered the peanut butter doughnut, chocolate Bismarck and the cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was fine as was the chocolate longjohn. The peanut butter doughnut was pretty fantastic as was well as the old-fashioned. The store was bright, colorful and clean. The staff was incredibly helpful, patient, and kind. They were very good at serving customers quickly to mitigate the line and overcrowding. They also have a drive-through. Donut King ROCKS!! I love donut king! I would argue that they have the best donuts in Kansas City. They have the biggest variety of not only donuts, but cupcakes, and danishes as well. I appreciate that they are open late so you can pick up donuts for the next morning and you can utilize the drive thru which is extremely convenient. Donut King is worth the trip even if you live a little farther out. Their salted caramel old fashioned just won an award for a reason! I'm a sucker for donuts and love to try a new place as often as possible. We recently tried Donut King and they definitely hit the spot. The cinnamon roll is as big as your face and it was a good mix of donut and cinnamon roll. We also enjoyed the caramel long john, glazed old fashioned, regular glazed donut, and the whipped cream bismark. My favorite donuts see usually an old fashioned and a long john, but the whipped cream bismark was amazing! We ordered a couple donuts and tried to order an iced coffee, but the didn't have coffee, so we settled for an energy drink. The donuts were ok. Cake was crumbly, and not too sweet. I don't get the fancy donut trend. Have you seen those? They're usually uniquely flavored with tons of toppings and cost $5+ each. That is not for me. A donut should be a simple pleasure you can acquire for little more than pocket change. An affordable sugary pillow of delight. Donut King has those aplenty. Whether you prefer yeast-raised or cake donuts, with sprinkles or simply iced, they have those and more, and they are indeed delightful. My recent assorted dozen came in at just under $20. The shop is open 7 days a week (!) and is bright and clean with helpful staff. They also have a drive-thru window available, but I like to go inside and see the stunning array for myself. The fun is in the choosing! However, I never leave without a sublime chocolate-iced, cream-filled bismark. It's very reminiscent of a favorite treat from my childhood, the Alligator from the long-gone but forever-missed Kelly's Bakery. An echo of the past, to be sure, but an appreciated one. read more

I was craving donuts. I've had a rough morning and I came in about 7:30AM on a Wednesday for some donuts. They had about 2 other customers in there. The lady at the counter was rude and seemed like she just woke up and didn't want to be there. In a rude tone of voice, she asked if she can help me, I told her I would like these donuts over here. She was very monotone and mean and her face was grumpy. It was my first time here, the donuts were okay, the shop was painted purple and it was bright inside. Overall the donuts were decent, but customer service was horrible. I love supporting small family owned shops but this was not the case. I might try it again just to see. Their basic vanilla cake donut base is pretty darn good, and I've had my fair share all across the US. If you're looking for a good yeast-raised donut... meh, keep looking. I personally prefer Lamar's a little bit better. I found that the chew of Donut King's glazed donut was a bit too dense and a bit too salty. If you're looking for a filled donut that has filling similar to Krispy Kreme's, you'll have to look elsewhere. I believe they only have whipped cream filling, chocolate filling, fruit fillings, and Bavarian cream/custard. If you're looking for a good French Cruller, this may or may not be a good spot; I felt that mine was just a teensy bit undercooked and a bit too "eggy." All that being said, these days, sometimes I'm willing to support a place that just has good service-- service with a smile! It's so hard to find these days, and the woman that helped me was so sweet. Overall: It's worth a try! read more

For example I've never had an orange donut before, and it was delicious. From the bright pink interior to the HUGE display cases of donuts, it's hard not to fall in love immediately. Arrived here yesterday Tuesday November 5th, 2024 about 7pm ordered 3 regular doughnuts with glaze icing & 3 strawberry doughnuts! Total was $13!!!!!!! SMH WAYYYY OVER PRICED FOR DOUGHNUTS! I always love a good donut from Donut King. Today I went there around 5pm which is usually late for a donut shop but I love that this place is open till 10pm most days. The service was quick and nice but we were also the only customers at that time. Store seemed clean and well kept. Love the fun colors! Only thing I'd change is the selection throughout the day.
