I love checking out all the cool, eclectic and new coffee spots across the city. And this is one of them. Kinship is now open on Sundays and I finally got to check it out. Located in Strawberry Hill which has lots of cool newish commercial spots now. The space is roomy, bright and welcoming. Full menu - coffee, tea, sweets and sammys. I ordered a latte with oat milk and macadamia nut and roasted marshmallow syrups. The flavor was mild. Good but I prefer a bit sweeter. I also ordered the lemon blueberry bread. Yum. I also ordered the early bird wrap. It was delicious. It was toasted and the wrap was crispy. It was very flavorful and cheesy. It came with a side of salsa. In fact, all the wraps and sammys sounded delicious. GF and vegan options available. They also sell whole bean coffee. I will definitely be back. read more

Ok...I am biased. This is my FAVORITE coffee shop on the planet, although to call it a "coffee shop" or "cafe" is to cheapen the community and experience that TJ has curated. This space is filled with such vibes, beauty and warmth that you'll come and want to stay and chat. The owner, TJ is always good for a chat and you never feel like you've left without a genuine experience. The food has always been delicious and complimentary to our drinks and we have loved the pop ups we've been able to experience through this shop. Although this location has closed, we can't wait for the next chapter and hopefully Kinship will find ANOTHER home in KCK soon! read more

I would say I'd have to come back and try their coffee. I came and they were out of coffee beans and told me to come back in 10-20 mins. So I stayed in the area since I had an appointment and came back after about 45 mins and they still had no coffee beans. Which was kind of disappointing because I was getting food also. I ended up getting a Turkey sandwich which I want the biggest fan of however it was heated it made the bread soggy and the sandwich was falling apart and the cheese wasn't melts and cut it two weird small rectangle slices. read more

Tried the berry latte and the wild turkey wrap. We enjoyed visiting with the different vendors while we waited for our food and drinks. I bought three different flavors of sea moss lemonade which was delicious as well! The wrap and latte were both delicious. Service was great. The cafe is cute! This coffee shop is more than just a coffee shop - it's a cornerstone of the Strawberry Hill community! The owner is active in supporting local artists and community events, and creates wonderful treats as well! Right away you're greeted by loads of plants in a lovely space, and special lattes that rotate seasonally. Truly the star here are the food options - many choices for vegans and vegetarians and ALL are super delicious! I love the mushroom and rice wrap, packed full of veg and tasty seasonings. We were driving around the KCMO/KCK neighborhoods looking for color schemes for our home. I happened to see the Kinship cafe from the road and decided to stop in and see what the ambiance was like. From the moment we walked in the barista gave off a great vibe and very friendly. The interior of the shop was inviting. There are so many places to sit. We came a little late because the cafe was closing in 20 minutes. I ordered a yam spice latte (delicious!) and my boyfriend had a mocha latte (very good and not overly sweet, it was very smooth). For food, we ordered a fresh blueberry bear claw and a glazed donut. They were so fresh! I will definitely be back to this cafe. They even had artwork and plants for sale. The set up with couches and seating inside and out, makes you wanna hang out. There's plenty of parking outside. read more

Absolutely love this place!! I had several people recommend Kinship to me and finally decided it was time to get my butt over there. It is so cute on the corner right in Strawberry Hill. I love the interior and all the local artists that cover the walls. They have food and drink. We both ordered coffee and a burrito- which was amazing. The staff there is awesome and so friendly. I hate being "that reviewer' that breaks the unanimous string of 5 star reviews, so that is why I gave Kinship a 2nd (actually 3rd attempt) visit, but both experiences left me less than wowed. My first visit was this past autumn during a Caffeine Crawl. The presentation and sampling was the most underwhelming of all 12 coffee shops over the past 3 crawls I've attended. An overview of the shops signature "Flashbrew" process was given then a 1oz sample and a roasted coffee bean to chew for comparisons. This was by FAR the tiniest amount of caffeine provided to the 15 Crawlers that paid $35 to attend. This is the captive audience that you should want to impress the most. My 3 friends that I convinced to attend with me still laugh about the absurdity and use the experience to mock me when I have a food or drink suggestion: "This isn't gonna be like Kinship, is it?". My follow up visit today did nothing to redeem my overall impression. Since 1oz wasn't enough to form an opinion on, today i ordered the 12oz Flashbrew for the full effect. After paying for that and a perfect little donut from Hana's Donuts (man, I love Hana's); I was informed that they were out of Flashbrew. Seriously? You are out of your signature beverage on a Saturday morning?! I was asked if a cold brew would suffice and I agreed. I was served a 12 oz. beverage that was less expensive that what I paid for. Usually in these situations a size upgrade or a refund for the difference is offered but not here. I was asked for a name, yet when my order was ready, the drink was placed on the counter and "cold brew" was yelled. OK, yet every customer before and after me was delivered their drink to their table. The store's message is about community and that is a value that attracts me to support a business; but I'm not feeling it. I tipped, I tried to make small talk, was pleasant... but this seems like a "community" that doesn't want me in it. Strange. Both experiences have left me as bitter as that roasted coffee bean I was offered on my first visit. A generous and disappointing 3 stars. read more

We met the owner, TJ. His concept is so refreshing and such a vibe! TJ is a K-State graduate who grew up in Wamego, KS. He was the first Black person to graduate from his local high school. Kinship Café is a great coffee shop with a variety of drinks, pastries, wraps and sandwiches. They also showcase other Black Businesses. The location is a lovely gathering place for community or the perfect place to bring your laptop and do a little quiet work. I came for the chocolate chip cookie...which is a MUST TRY. They were out but TJ helped me find something new to try. We tried coffee and the blueberry fritter. I hate that I know that fritter is there...addictive! The service and hospitality were excellent. I had a turkey wrap which was well made, tasty and filling. The owner of the restaurant was very amiable and introduced himself to me. He recognized my daughter, who recommended the venue. The ambience was winsome and gave off a very comfortable Strawberry Hill vibe. The staff and guests were pleasant and multicultural. I do not consider myself a 'coffee' or 'coffee shop' person, but I was really pleasantly surprised with Kinship! There's tons of variety with their drinks and they seem to be coming up with new ones often - so if you're picky like me you're bound to find at least one thing you like! I liked the Milky Way the best both hot or cold... It's magic. Their breakfast wraps are also so, SO good. I'll elaborate... There are vegan options as well as chicken, but my personal favorite is the Early Bird (ground turkey, salsa, potatoes, cheese, peppers, egg - wrapped in a flaky, toasted tortilla). The tortilla itself is made locally in KC as the owner, TJ told me. You can tell the difference between that and any other breakfast, trust me. Really cool addition. Unlike a lot of other breakfast food you buy in a pinch, this feels like a home cooked meal and not a flavorless/dry/sad egg sandwich. As for the atmosphere - It's a place that makes you feel more like you're hanging out amongst friends and far from a chain or corporate "polished" experience (whatever's appealing about that, I'll never know). Starbucks is BORING! I said it! There's local art hanging around the whole shop accompanied by plants and usually music that makes you feel like you're energized and ready to get your day going, not a corporate playlist or music you'd hear in a viagra commercial (I hope I'm making sense to you reading this ). And finally, the staff are so sweet. They try their best to learn names and your usual order, this means a lot. This place is always clean and they run a professional little shop. In the Strawberry hill community, or most of KC for that matter - I say Kinship rises to the top of my favorite places to eat, drink or just hang out! read more

This warm and welcoming space filled with art and plants gives this spot the Zen feel that I am always looking for. The coffee taste amazing, my favorite is the Jazzy Belle. After recently moving to Strawberry Hill, I have been on a mission to try every little business. I have been here twice in the last week, just now having a chance to try Kinship Cafe out. I absolutely cannot say enough good things. The staff is always so amiable and welcoming. The space is clean, light, and happy. They do not skimp on their breakfast burritos, the tortilla is almost like Phyllo dough- so flaky and delicious. I had to save half for later and even on the reheat (air fryer) 2 days later the burrito was still delicious and crispy! The house blend chia tea lattes have to be some of the best I've had. Beautiful, bright and welcoming. This cafe is just want this street needed. The set up is great for working quietly or chatting with friends. They have some wonderful pastries from Hana's Donuts as well as housemade sandwiches and wraps. Their specials are always on social media as well as a chalk board when you walk in. Currently they are waiting on their espresso machine so only offering teas, drip coffee and cold brew. They use and sell Messenger beans as well as other local treats and items.
