I was approached immediately and asked if i had any questions or would like anything. I asked for a bit more time. I tried something new and it was delicious! I've never had a German Chocolate Cake Donut and it was decadent! I've had the filled Long Johns and my favorite is usually the old fashioned. I enjoyed my donut there instead of taking it to go. Ray's donuts are not even remotely as soft and fresh in texture nor as flavorful at all as Fresh Donuts off Barry Rd or Lamar's in Liberty which are the two closest other donut spots in the KCMO area. The chocolate yeast donut here has zero chocolate flavor. The yeast donuts in general were tougher and not super giving and moist like Fresh Donuts which is a bummer. They are not super expensive here like Lamar's which is the only upside. The pumpkin cake donut was very moist and had the slightest bit of crisp on the outside so that was a winner but the other donuts- especially the not soft at all really donut holes I tried today- were lackluster at best. read more

I'm a huge donut fan in general, and I was excited to try Ray's for the first time. For those of you in the northland (north of the river in Kansas City), there are a couple options for donuts. I don't recommend Donut King or Duck Donuts. If I were to compare Ray's to Fresh Donuts and LaMar's, I'd say that Ray's is a mix between the two. Fresh Donuts is for those that like a lighter, drier texture-- a bit more bready. LaMar's is heavier, with a bit more of an unctuous chew with a custardy flavor (which I really enjoy). Ray's kind of is a happy medium between the two. I recommend their glazed donuts. I didn't taste much of a difference with their glazed, chocolate-dough donuts, so if you're hoping for a heavy chocolate flavor, you'll probably be better off getting one that's chocolate-iced. I don't recommend their donut holes because I felt like the texture was much tougher and drier, and had less flavor. For the reviews mentioning poor customer service, I felt like it was good on the day that I went. I would definitely go back! read more

Great spot in the Northland for a sweet treat! Who doesn't love a donut? Ray's is tucked into the strip just off North Oak & Vivion (just north of Anita Gorman Park) and is super-accessible. There is no drive-thru, of course, but it's a quick in & out. Amble up to the counter that runs the back width of the shop and you're faced with racks on racks of beautiful pastries. A pair of donuts will run you between $3.50-4.00 and that's on par with the 'donut market' anymore (boo! inflation). But the value is beyond the price and Ray's offers up some *very* fluffy treats. Staff is friendly and invested and depending on the time of your visit, you might catch a coffee klatch of locals enjoying a cuppa & donuts while solving world problems in conversation. It's a great neighborhood spot with just the right 'donut shop' ambiance and a solid pastry game to boot. read more

From out of town we have some pretty good doughnuts shops but this is good didn't get to try some of the unique flavors I gotta say these are some good doughnuts really fluffy and jelly was packed in but I spent close to $25 for a dozen doughnuts this would be a nice treat from time to time read more

The Long Johns chocolate Long Johns with chocolate fill are to die for....they taste so delicious...when you take a bite the tastes immediately melts in your mouth. These long John are just as divine as the long John Kelly's bakery had in Northeast...if anyone knows what I'm talking about Every since I can remember being a lil chica having Kelly's bakery right by my house on St. John & Jackson. These donuts are awesome! Many to choose from. My finance went to the store and got a dozen of them and brought home. We got cherry, lemon, blueberry, red velvet, butterfinger, and M&M. I drove by Rays doughnuts all the time, finally stopped in to a wonderful selection of fresh made doughnuts for a decent price. Doughnut lady was nice and dealt out the doughnuts quickly. The price point is a huge draw to Rays. Lamars cost $24.00, yes you read that right TWENTY FOUR DOLLARS for a dozen doughnuts. I understand costs are rising for everyone, but hot ham damn, that is ridiculous!! Rays has an absolutely delicious doughnut, fluffy, fresh, fantastic. I am thankful I finally stopped by. This donut shop was referred to be by someone who literally drives 20 minutes out of their way once a week to bring their donuts to work. I used to always visit this quaint little place in Parkville that was broken down and replaced by a Price Chopper and since then I've been reluctant to try another donut place... however, this was a great surprise! One problem is that when you search for it, it pops up as a Lamar's (not sure if it is a freelanced chain or what) but it goes by another name: RAY's! Once I found the location, I learned they have very early hours and really resemble the old shop I used to love. They have a huge selection of all your favorite donuts and it's hard not to order one of everything when onlooking over the range of donuts and iced goods! My partner and I got their managers special of 13 donuts of our choice for only $19.00 bucks and brought home a great variety of tasty treats. Their cream filled long Johns were to die for and my dad loves their huge Cinnamon Rolls the size of your head! I am excited to get more of these delicious treats when I'm back in Kansas City and though they are a bit pricey, it is worth it! read more

This place is amazing! I am from Chicago I know good donuts. Ray's have great quality donuts despite the low average rating. Their donuts are soft and delicious and they have many flavors. I had the lemon, red velvet and maple donuts, they were all delicious not too hard or stale they were beyond perfect! My old donut place was John's Space Age Donuts which I absolutely loved! I was sad about them retiring and closing up until I found Ray's! The lemon donut was great as was the glazed, chocolate glazed and the apple fritter. All were moist and tasted great! Perfect little family run donut shop. While the man I figured was Ray that took our order was a little gruff, I feel it added to the charm of the place. The selection is outstanding and we bought a dozen of various types of donuts. The two I tried were a old sour scream cake donut that was both flavorful and moist. The other one was chocolate covered cake with nuts which is my favorite (I think!?!?!). I love them all. We also got a dozen glazed donut holes free for buying a dozen and they were the bomb. A lady, which I'm naming Rays wife, made a fresh pot of coffee which is by the side fountain for self-service. She was very nice as was the other young lady behind the counter, which I'm saying is their daughter. There was also a much older gentlemen working the counter (Grandpa?) who was super friendly and the 4 of them together were super efficient for as busy as they were. I'll pick Ray's over the giant corp DD's or KK everyday of the week. Keep up the great work. read more
