The dough in these donuts is so fresh and so delicious! We tried the glazed lemon and jelly donuts, the cotton candy donuts and the key lime pie donuts. The breaded part of the donuts was so delicious and tasted like fried dough at the beach or a carnival. So good! The line was moving slowly, despite only two customers ahead of us, which kind of surprised us. There were three people behind the counter, so I'm not sure why it took so long, but we were patient and enjoyed the donuts very much! Not really any ambiance is present here because it is an order-based line and the space constraints keep them from offering any tables, but the aim here is efficiently getting people in and out. Pretty damn good donuts! Behind some construction and an uber ride away I found Kane's Donuts. A local recommended them and it was worth the stop. They are fluffy and tasty. Not necessarily my favorite type, I prefer more cake type with some density but these were pretty good. I came late so the fritters were gone but he was able to pull together a bag of mixed smaller fritter pieces which I enjoyed. If this was an Apple fritter, they were missing the Apple? Still the sugar on the bottom and the wonderful cinnamon taste made me eat them all. The best donut left looked to be the jelly filled. Haven't enjoyed one of these in a while. Still as good as I remembered. The fancy donuts looked to be gluten free, they had a ton of them. Probably because nobody likes gluten free donuts... Kane's reminded me of a great local donut shop with a touch of class. If I was close by I'd grab them again but likely to seek out another shop in Boston to compare next time I'm back. read more

This is really more of a 3 1/2 star experience, but Stinky's pain med has kicked in so he is feeling charitable. Old Stinky P. has not had a good donut in ages and he remembers how good these were when he sometimes got them in his office years ago. The Boston Cream was very tasty and large and was surprised that the Jelly was actually frosted and not sugared, which he liked. Was not a big lover of the Jelly they use though, but he likes about anything filled as long as it is not filled with poo poo or some other nasty stuff. These donuts are very filling and he is grateful that he did not see any calorie count. It was our first time in Boston, we were told we HAD to visit Kane's, and we made it...very close to close on a Saturday LOL! That timing, though, did not change how we were treated one bit, and I greatly appreciated the time the owners took talking with us and serving us. Definitely some of the best donuts I've ever had! I've been to all of their locations, but have been going to the downtown Boston location most recently as it's close to my work. The donuts are ginormous and there's so many yummy flavors to choose from. I am partial to their glazed, raised chocolate frosted, maine blueberry, and apple fritter. I had a strawberry frosted a week or so ago and it's the only one I've been disappointed with - there wasn't enough frosting or enough flavor to the frosting. I would normally deduct a star, BUT - my boyfriend is gluten free and he LOVES the variety that he can get at Kane's. He was almost weepy as he bit into a donut and said "I haven't had a jelly donut in 12 years...!". So, thank you for that! Now, he buys 5-6 donuts at a time because he lives far out of the city. If I could give a million stars to Kane's Donuts, I would. WOWZA! KD was on my must-visit list while I was in Boston and I'm so glad I got a chance to go...twice. The shop wasn't crazy busy either time my group went, but it was early in the morning. All the donuts on display look delicious and there's so many to choose from-- they also have cinnamon rolls bigger than your head. More importantly, they have tiers of several gluten-free donut flavors, and I was in paradise. I got a few different ones like apple cider, pumpkin, etc. but the masterpiece was their jelly donut. Oh. My. Goodness. Hands down, best gluten-free donut EVER, but also the best jelly one I've ever had. This is a cute place, but the atmosphere wasn't super welcoming. Felt a little too industrial for a donut shop in my opinion. The staff were super nice and welcoming though! I tried a couple of the gluten-free options -- the lemon poppyseed was absolutely delicious with a bright, citrusy flavor and great texture. Unfortunately, the maple bacon donut was a bit stale, which was a letdown since I had high hopes for it. That said, I really appreciate the variety they offer, especially for gluten-free options. Had a craving for the BEST donuts in Boston! Kane's got the 5 donuts selection cruller, jelly, apple fritter and classic boston cream and the jack pumpkin! Also got the Kane's King sandwich! So simple and delicious! I came by Kane's on an early Saturday morning while walking through downtown and I was able to try a couple of their donuts. They have a good mix of classic and more unique flavors on their menu, and they've always got rotating specialty flavors to try if that's your thing. It was so early the shop wasn't busy but I'm sure it gets packed after 9am. The staff here are efficient and are always happy to give flavor recommendations. My favorite was the Maine blueberry donut, it was fragrant and soft and I want to eat another even though I'm typically not a cake donut person. The other donut I got was a chocolate raised. I thought this one was great, the raised dough was airy but still had some substance to it while the chocolate frosting didn't taste fake or like a fancy chocolate which is exactly what I prefer. The gluten free donuts are stored separately. They are huge! And they are super soft. You wouldn't even know they were gluten free just by looking at them or the taste. If you like a standard glazed, try their highly ranked Honey Dip. I also love their use of real strawberries in the strawberry frosted one. Nut allergy warning: The turtle donut contains nuts, but I've eaten here with no issues with cross contamination since they keep donuts on separate racks, and I think the ones with nuts are at the bottom so nothing falls. Some seasonals may also have nuts. However, the gluten free line is completely free of nuts if that's a concern! Three years ago, I rated Kane's the best donut in Boston when I visited. I'm delighted to say that it still maintains this ranking! I ordered 12 donuts to go and it was ready pretty quickly. We got the Apple Fritter, two Boston Cremes, one Creme Brulee, one Jelly, one Maine Blueberry, two Maple Bacon, one Chocolate, one Honey Dipped, and two Plain donuts. The apple fritter, creme brulee, and Boston Cremes were the most popular in my group. Every donut had the perfect chewiness of texture and delicious flavors. 6 years later and I'm back! Kane's still deserves all the stars. The people were really nice and I was able to get the doughnuts pretty fast even with a long line. I got 3 honey dips, a honey lemon, chocolate iced, and Maine blueberry. They are all amazing. I saved 2 to try to take back to Florida (fingers crossed). There is no indoor seating only a small window counter but there some outdoor tables and chairs. There was no wait and plenty of donuts available. Service was quick. 8.5/10 Creme Brulee Donut $4 - Pretty large yeast donut with a crispy and sticky shell and creamy custard filling. Donut was soft and airy but custard was slightly artificial. Shell was pretty much a thin layer of candy and was well made. Overall on the sweeter side so I recommend getting a coffee or milk to go with. read more

Spent a couple of days in Boston and stayed at a hotel near here. I stopped in here twice - most people will want to know about the donuts so we'll start with that. Typically I'd order a chocolate icing donut, but I couldn't take my eyes off the gluten free lemon poppyseed - she was such a beauty. I went for it and it was great! Let me include the line for clarity: you'd never guess it was gluten free. Great texture and taste and lovely thin layer of icing around the whole thing. I saved some for later, which ended up being a couple days later, and I was surprised how fresh it still tasted. The other time I came in, I was wanting my typical breakfast which is an English muffin and two eggs - so I ordered a modified breakfast sandwich. I mean, I got my English muffin and two egg patties... but I can say it was probably the worst version of "my" breakfast I've ever had. The muffin was maybe warmed but not toasted. And what was it, grocery store brand? Not buttered or anything. Then yeah, there were two egg patties in between. I get this isn't their specialty, but if you're going to put an egg sandwich on the menu, make it good? I also had a drip coffee, black, thought it was very good. One day (a Friday) there were lots of tables in the plaza to eat at. The next day (a Saturday) there were just two tables with the rest stored and tied up. So presumably the two belong to Kane's and the rest have to do with the nearby office building and don't get set up on the weekends. read more

I'm not really into sweet stuff, but the youngin's in our group insisted that these were supposedly the best donuts around, so off we went hunting this place down....and thanks to Google maps, we finally found the place. This is a very cute, fun, and colorful donut bakery that's for take-out only.....you just get in the line, decide what you want from either the menu or display, order it, and pay for it at the cashier....very simple and easy. As for seating, there's really only a small bar counter by the window....probably better to take it outside to eat anyway, unless you don't mind people in line brushing up against you as it moves. The selection of donuts on display was not many, but what they did have looked absolutely amazing.....so pretty and creative to look at, so incredibly yummy to gaze at, and so very difficult to choose just one. As such, we each chose one we wanted to try.....the Cookies & Cream, the Boston Cream, the Maine Blueberry, and Honey Jelly, I did take a bite of each and they were all very good quality, very fresh made, and actually very decadently yummy. However, the Cookies & Cream and Maine Blueberry had that cakey texture to the donut that I'm not really into. I much prefer the classic soft and fluffy donut inside, and that was exactly what I got with the Honey Jelly. However, the filling, although really yummy too, was way too sweet for my taste. Ok, so this experience for me was likely a once in a lifetime event, since I try to eat a healthy diet.....but unfortunately, healthy eating absolutely won't be found here. Regardless of the line, service is always prompt and friendly. The inside is quite small! But don't let that fool you as they have a variety of offerings - even gluten free and they're pretty tasty. On the way to Kane's Donuts, I was passed by a customer with a large bag of their product. I've ordered twice now for pick up. There are signs typed out in all caps asking patrons to please ask for assistance in claiming their pastries. French Cruellers are available on Fridays only, by which they mean Friday mornings (hint, hint). I found it light, but a little oily. My preference was the Creme Brulee, which was large and fluffy, coated with a layer of shattering sugar and filled with a pleasant custard. Too sweet for some, but just fine for me. read more
