I love this place!!! Came here with my husband around 1pm and basically got option paralysis because there were so many yummy options. The dude serving us was instantly homie material. When we left, we both turned to each other and said we could totally be friends with him because he was so chill and friendly!! Such a cool person to talk to!I've tried many donut shops in the Bay Area and this one is now one of my favorites. It's incredibly bright inside and very clean which is a nice change compared to the chucks donuts in Belmont lol It's hella funny to see the chucks donuts comments bc those are C grade in my opinion lol but whatever. After our tour at the Nine Lives clinic, we stopped by here for a quick snack for the road back home. The gentleman behind the counter was nice and very polite. We ordered 2 spinach and cheese Danish, 3 donuts (chocolate old fashioned, chocolate glaze, and glazed), and a jalapeno w/ cream cheese. He threw in a 2-4 donut holes in the box. The bagel took a short while (like 2-3 min). When it was done, he apologized for the wait. It wasn't a long wait whatsoever but I appreciate his sense of urgency; the service was superior! The donuts were dense, sweet, moist. The Danish was good but we should have heated it up. Barley, one of the kitten I was fostering took a bite out of it and seemed to like it, too. The bagel was packed w/ cream cheese... cheesy goodness! We will be back when we return to Nine Lives maybe to volunteer or to vaccinate since they offer low cost medical services. Donut King is in a small plaza. There is a decent amount of parking in the front. The guy at the counter was super friendly! I asked for a glazed donut and he said they have fresh ones in the back so he got me that one which was really nice of him to do that. I also got a French cruller. In the bag he tossed in a few glazed donut holes which was awesome. They were warm and I thought tasted very fluffy. I liked them! I had a bite of the French cruller and thought it was decent but I liked the donut holes / glazed donut better! The cruller had a slightly weird taste/texture to it, and was incredibly sweet. Donut King is off of Jefferson. There is a small parking lot in front of the donut shop or on the street. They have indoor and a couple of outdoor tables to enjoy your food items or can select donut(s) to go. They have a variety selection of donuts. Service was helpful and friendly. All the donuts we selected were good as any other donut shop. The crème filled donut bars definitely had a lot of crème that oozes out with one bite. Wish i got a picture of the full box! One of the vendors that we work with brought a variety box for us, & they were soo good! One of the sales guys usually brings in a box of donuts every friday for everyone nearby, but even he has to admit that these were way better! Soo fluffy & tasty, some were jelly filled, some were cream filled, even the glaze on them were just scrumptious. Can't give them a full 5 stars because i haven't been there yet so i cannot give a full review, but next time i'm in Redwood City i'll be sure to stop by & give an updated review! read more

Good breakfast sandwiches and donuts. Came here for some donuts and ended up with the breakfast croissant because someone in line got one and it smelled good. They made the sandwich incredibly fast and it was neat and easy to eat. The pricing was great as well and I would rather support a small business like this than a big chain restaurant. Blueberry glazed donut, I don't know why I love these so much. Maybe it's the nice cake batter inside with blueberry's or maybe it's the nice glaze layer on the outside. I use to live nearby but I have still gone back to get doughnuts periodically. I know that the father, Mr Lee, sold the business to his son. I have the son and the new staff a few tries before writing this review. The old staff that was very personable and would give doughnut holes to the kids coming into the store. The old staff would make sure to put large orders in boxes versus putting all those doughnuts into individual bags. I ran into other people in line who were also disappointed. The selection of doughnuts was also pretty slim. I think Chuck's on Woodside is my new place. read more

The second I walked in, RAP music was playing and immediately I heard "f**k" blah blah blah on the music. I was taken back. This very young girl was doing her homework and she waited on me. She was sweet as could be, helpful and just someone you want working for you. No one was in there but milk was in carton on counter and immediately I thought, definitely not touching that! It's the closest donut shop to my house, and while I don't visit often, I do enjoy stopping by every once in awhile to get a donut. I like maple bars and cake donuts and my husband likes apple fritters. I hate to write this review, because for years Mr. Lee and his hole in the wall donut shop were our go to with kids. But unfortunately the place has slid downhill since he sold it to his son. Things that were better before: 1) Service. Today my son wanted a smoothie. I was told that it was 'too busy' to make a smoothie at the time were were in the shop. Why have it on your menu when you can't make something? 2) Quality. I ordered a bagel sandwich. They used to toast these. Mine? It was microwaved. The bagel I mean. Really. Who does that? 3) The vibe. Well it is a nasty little spot and it always seems to have been that way. But now? The vibe has changed. The folks running it or working it aren't as friendly. I hope the owner reads this. I'd really love to still love donut king, but I think I'm going to start seeing other cruellers if you catch my drift. read more

I ordered the old fashion, glazed doughnut which was $2, an astoundingly expensive price for a hole in the wall donut shop. I had one bite in my car and decided to go back into the store and ask for a different donut because it tasted sour and was not a good donut whatsoever. The Lady behind the counter said she would have to charge me for another donut, because not liking the donut was not a reason to replace the bad donut. My order: Breakfast Croissant with Ham, Cheese, and Egg - $4.60. It's an all microwave affair but you have to love the fluffy scrambled eggs (with milk or cream?), the melted cheese, warm croissant and salty ham. Glazed donut - $1.09. Their bread and butter and lots baked fresh that morning. Mine wasn't warm but was light and dirty and perfectly sweet. Apple Fritter - $1.25. I'll never understand the Apple Fritter. It's deep fried goodness but at so many places there is little to no apple. The one here is soft, fried, and with a rich oily mouth feel. The problem? There's almost zero Apple. Zero! In this terrible time of Covid I intend to review local places we've found to be affordable and with tasty offerings. First up - my mister and I are taste testing a few shared pastries throughout the day and they're delicious. - The bear claw is the best we've had of the type - the almond filling is m fresh, the pastry is flaky and with delicate layers, the almonds and icing all combine to make it delectable. - The apple turnover - my mister describes it as flaky, fresh, with soft apple sauce like filling with a hint of cinnamon flavor. He's impressed with the multilayered pastry. - The apple strudel - very generous portions with chunks of apple, it's a much wetter version than we've had elsewhere. It's a big, flat, square piece, very moist so if not eaten soon it'll probably get partially soggy. Seems like it can be decently reheated. - Ham and cheese croissant sandwich - we heated half in the microwave when we got home. It's a very humble, basic American cheese and deli ham on a large croissant that's not likely the best croissant around. I had a few nibbles and it's delicious regardless of there being better croissants in the area. I could make a couple meals out of this one sandwich. - Glazed raised donut - light, airy, sweet and hits the spot. Don't know what time it was created but it doesn't taste old like a lot of donuts do by mid-afternoon. I definitely recommend Donut King, especially if you live in Redwood City. read more

Somewhat clean environment, good service, was greeted with a smile when walked into the shop. Super Fast service. Great tasting product especially the custard filled donuts. You can tell if the fillings of the donuts a.k.a custard, jelly and chocolate are cheap tasting.
