Best boba in Merced: a title often debated, even given the sparse choices. Donut King is the strongest contender for the title in my opinion, even with the new SnoCrave moving into town. The pineapple boba is delicious, and the Banh mi sandwiches aren't slouches either! So I've passed by dozens of times, but never stopped. I'm slightly leery of places that sell mixed menus. There's a place in Fresno (Spot-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named and is just as evil as Voldemort casting a cruciatus spell on your stomach) that turned me off to these types of places. But I wanted a donut... And I gave it a try... They're slightly greasy, at least the maple bars were, but had a good crunch type texture that you would find on a churro or something similar. Their HUGE twist bars with chocolate and apple cinnamon topping have become my new favorite donut. Do they compare with Rollen's donuts? Quite possibly. I prefer that their maple glaze isn't as overpowering-ly sweet like Rollen's. Either way, worth a try! I think it's my new preferred spot, about the same price as Rollen's too. I come here mainly for their boba drinks. The better place to come for boba drinks before Mel's Cafe, now Sushi Cuisine, closed down. I wish they had a milk tea selection, but it's cool. The owners of the place are really nice. The smell of donuts bodes well with boba drinks and bahn mi sandwiches. Sounds weird, but it's quite delightful. I had their sandwiches once or twice. They were okay. I wish they had a little more meat in them, but like I said, the boba drinks are what I usually go for. My usual: coconut, taro, or a mix of both. I am too comfortable with my usual that I am scared to try other flavors like honeydew or strawberry. I did in fact try an avocado one, which I think had real avocados in it because it had a thick, creamy consistency, and of course thai tea. I live in Sacramento but drive here on Sundays before church to buy donuts from this place (btw I attend church in Merced). Absolutely the BEST tasting donuts on earth. No kidding. I don't know if it's the sugar glaze or the oil they use, but there is magic in these donuts. They are incredibly soft on the inside and just melts in your mouth, literally. I always get the glaze and the donut holes. Have not found anything nearly this good in all of Sacramento. Come here for the best donuts. Hands down there is no competition to this place. Every time I come here, I am always welcomed and greeted with a nice smile. Today I came in with my son and we had exceptional customer service. The guy was super nice and even threw in a couple of donut holes on the house for my boy. I thought that was really sweet. The doughnuts were amazing and fresh, unlike yum yum's doughnuts, which are always hard, i gave up on them. On our quest to taste the donut offerings in Merced, my son and I stopped at King Donuts. The first thing I noticed was the interior really needed a make over... and I don't know if they have A/C but it wasn't on and it was at least 80 that day. Not very hot but hot enough in a place that cooks donuts all day to use it. As for the donuts, I got a regular old fashioned and a bag of donut holes which are the regular glazed kind. If you have not patronized Donut King, you are missing out!! Their donuts are Incredibly soft, always taste fresh and though the dozen donuts that are delivered are randomly selected by them (unless you ask for specific kinds) have always been spot on. Their Vietnamese sandwiches are delicious! I have never eaten a Vietnamese sandwich before this place so I don't honestly have anything to compare it to, but I will say that any place I eat a Bahn mi at, will have big shoes to fill! Also the fact that they deliver is fantastic! I have 5 kids and sometimes it's a battle to get them ready to go out, so getting them all rounded up just for a donut run doesn't seem worth it to me. The places I've lived at in the Bay Area didn't have donut delivery spots so needless to say I have seen a lot of Michael (the delivery guy) since I moved here. Lastly is a shout out to Michael, himself. Always on time (except once which I chalk up to being more my fault since I ordered reeeeally close to closing) but he was apologetic even though I put in my order literally 3 minutes before closing. 3.5 STARS The best donuts in Merced. Light and airy and not hurt your teeth sweet. The only downside is that on average they don't usually have a good number of donuts nor a variety available. Not the best idea if you are trying to market yourself as a donut place. That being said. They have other food items that they are known for. The boba has been one hit and a lot of misses with me, the drink is too watery or the boba was either over or under cooked. The quality of boba drinks is too inconsistent for me to ever buy from here again. Their sandwiches are good, but overpriced for their size. Also if you hate mayonnaise like I do, or are allergic, they do mix their pate with mayonnaise. So even if you say no mayonnaise but get the pate, you are getting mayonnaise. Another hit or miss is customer service. It's either I get great service or they are aggressively urgent. I understand that there is a person behind me, but is sacrificing the quality of service to one customer worth the few minutes you gain to service the next? read more

The maple glazed donuts are so good! It satisfied my sweet tooth craving! I also ordered a z6 tofu veggie sandwich and I love how they grilled the tofu. In the pictures on Yelp, they show sandwiches for $4.00 but the actual price is higher. My sandwich was actually $4.99 and not $4.00. I've tried other Vietnamese sandwiches in the area this is my favorite place to go for tofu sandwiches. I saw a couple reviews saying they give you a card counting your sandwiches, but they didn't give me one. If could be because I didn't ask, but I'll definitely go back and see if they still have it.
