Loved coming here as a kid, my family went religiously after Mass every Sunday morning for over a decade. I remember being 3/4 years old and giving my family's order at the humble shop's old-school counter for the first of many, many times. The donuts were always amazing, the service was next level (we personally became acquainted with the original owners and counter staff and loved chatting with them each week), and we never had any complaints until the original management retired. Now, I'm so so happy to say that after some uncertainty for a number of years around COVID time, the new management has brought back our beloved donut establishment! "The Shack IS, indeed, BACK!" So, if you're on a diet I highly recommend avoiding the general area surrounding Donut Shack altogether. The line out the door or the fleet of vehicles pulling in and out of this parking lot every 10 seconds might temp you to see if the hype is true. While waiting in line for a short time (10 minutes or so), we got to admire how absolutely cool and nostalgic this place was. The stools, the napkin holders, the color scheme, the booths, everything made you feel like you'd went back in time (in the best way possible). The first thing we grabbed was some of the coolest looking canned cold brew from Ceremony Coffee Roasters I'd ever seen. It was a little pricey ($4.95 a can), but no different than a cup of Starbucks. We also grabbed some hot coffee (10/10 for a no-frills cup of coffee) and half a dozen donuts. Chocolate creme (My absolute FAVORITE, it was crunchy on the outside? But soft on the inside and melted in your mouth!?) Dutch crumb (Oh yeah, this one was special. 12/10) Double chocolate (Chocolatey, decadent, delicious) Honey-dipped (Taste like glazed? *shrug*) Glazed (Whew, SO good. A total classic.) Vanilla Frosted (The dough really melts in your mouth on this one.) Overall, this place rocks. Glad new management has turned things back around! We will be back (Terminator voice). The Donut Shack proves that the old fashioned neighborhood donut shop is alive and well in Severna Park. With fresh brewed Ceremony coffee and some amazing simple donuts, the Donut Shack is a refreshing change from the chain donut shops. And they're simple donuts, not the over fancy ones that seem to be popular, either. These are the basics. Glazed, coconut, Boston Cream, etc. the prices are reasonable, too. The counter is well spaced, and the stools are comfortable. There are a few booths of the counter isn't your thing. The staff is friendly and efficient, getting you taken care of promptly. We ordered a half dozen & added on a Chop Suey; added bonus, we ordered on Donut Day, so we got a free donut Full Order: Coconut Custard, Strawberry Sprinkles, PBJ w/chips (donut of the week), Macaroon Crunch, German Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut, Chop Suey, Blueberry Crumb Compared to other donuts, the donuts themselves were very light & airy, this makes them a little less filling (i.e I ended up eating two in a row because one didn't 'hit that spot') but the pro is the next day, when I did just eat one w.breakfast, it didn't feel as heavy. As for the specific flavors of the donuts, they pack on/in the toppings & ingredients! For a little airy donut, it is crazy how much it can hold on top haha. And the donuts that were stuffed....were STUFFED. One bite of the coconut custard and custard explosion! The Chop Suey (apple fritter) was interesting (this would get 4 stars on its own); it was fried harder than other fritters I've had, giving it a delightfully crispy outer glaze profile; while inside was wonderfully moist and dense; it was a stand out flavor! and it was MASSIVE, larger than my hand, easy to cut in half, share, and still be enough for one! I'm used to the service I received when this place was run by the previous owners. I came in because I was in the area and wanted to see if it was still the same. Its not. This will probably be my last time here. I came and bought 2 donuts, the honeydipped donut was dry and the the strawberry shortcake was just ok. The filling was good but overall left me with an aftertaste. The service is subpar. I know its not a 4 star place, but I expect to be greeted when I walk in. The girl behind the counter didn't seem too interested in helping me. I ordered my stuff and left. I've been searching for the best yeasty donut on this side of the coast for ages. They have good donuts here but just good. They are better than Dunkin. They are a bit overpriced for example they have donuts behind the counter which are regular price but then if you want donuts in the display case they are extra and we are just talking Cinnamon Twists! Too bad cause they were good! Maybe the freshest ones are on display. If you ask me the best donuts here are Carlson on Hwy 175. (Please see my rating of it). You go by what they have but everything is really good! Or Krispy Kreme glazed and still warm where you can almost swallow them whole. Now I want donuts! Lol read more

The Shack is kind of back. Like many frequent patrons, we stopped going to The Donut Shack during the "dark months" with new management. It got another overhaul in the past months, so we returned after we heard the quality is better again. While I agree the doughnuts are closer to the originals, I still think they aren't quite up to the standard. The yeasted doughnuts have good structure. They definitely taste very fresh! However, Bavarian creams are my favorite, and this custard recipe is very disappointing. When we grabbed some doughnuts a few weeks ago, I got a Bavarian cream for the first time since "The Shack came back." I noticed the custard was not nearly as flavorful as the original Shack recipe. Wanting to see if it was a fluke, I got a Boston cream a few weeks later (today). Again, the custard filling disappointed. It has a good texture but lacks any flavor other than generalized sweetness. It's frustrating because Bavarian/Boston creams are usually my favorites, but I will have to find a different go-to here because the custard is a major let-down. Also, my parents had a cake doughnut and were unimpressed with the structure and flavor of it. Their yeasted doughnuts were fine though. And our family favorite original flavor, peach, has yet to make an appearance at the new Shack. Overall, the doughnuts are better than the failed takeover, but they don't hold up to the originals. Avoid the custard-filled because they carry little flavor now. It is nice to have a solid option for fresh doughnuts in the area again though. read more

Fantastic donuts! When my roommates and I have late night or early morning cravings, we love to drive down to this place. Their coffee is just okay, but their donuts, especially the peanut /chocolate ones, are so good. The shack looks like it is stuck in the past, old school house maps, 70s seating/bar, and the servers are grumpy looking and cutely old. CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM inside with almost a $3 fee. You can't serve stale donuts. I'm rooting for DS after going through another change in ownership. It was welcomed news that baking resumed in house. On the upside they now take plastic forms of payment. The setup due to Covid was respectable. I'm not a regular customer. A few times of year tops. Stale donuts will ruin your business. First customer this morning and purchased a dozen. Each of the first two donuts crumbled to pieces in our hands. I want the new group to do well. We risked the hike up there to get these for Mothers Day, and were not disappointed. Donut of the week was top notch, I admit we didn't finish what we got yesterday, and they are still a million times better than the 'fresh' ones during the interim ownership. It is family owned and operated doughnut shop has been in Severna Park for nearly 40 years! The selection and quality never disappoint, from fresh yeast donuts to homemade muffins and fresh ground and fresh brewed coffee. They have five types of donut holes, glazed cake, glazed chocolate cake, glazed yeast donuts, sugared yeast rolls stuffed with red jam, and my favorite a powdered sugar yeast hole stuffed with Bavarian cream. So sad, this place was so good before. I got my dozen from Dunkin Donuts this morning because I finally have accepted that the old Donut Shack is dead. I never would consider myself a donut fan, but now that the old Donut Shack is gone, I really want to find another great local donut shop. The new Donut Shack (as of August) finally accepts credit cards, but now there is nothing worth buying there. The new donuts are not consistent in either their flavor or size, and the selection is terrible. Early in the morning, they are now often out of many of the donuts that made them famous. The donuts are smaller, don't taste as sweet, are not properly filled, are dry... and are more expensive. I thought the new owner purchased the old recipes with the business; why didn't he keep the employees? Lindsey Vonn better watch out because if Donut Shack is still around in 2022, they may take the gold in Beijing with the speed it's going downhill. First of all they were out of all the original and most popular: apple fritters, honey dip stick, chocolate peanut, chocolate frosted, white cream and boston cream...I mean, not even a spot for them! We bought some yeast twists which were dry and hardly any glaze. The fudgies were horrible..very cake like with a weird chocolate glaze not dense and fudgy as their name and how they used to be! The girl working behind the counter was as slow as molasses! And she needed to be wearing something over her wild hair! Bring back the good ole days with the wonderful donuts! I've been going to Donut Shack for 30 years. It was a Severna Park landmark and 5-star donut experience for all that time while Bill and Stacey owned and ran it. Recently it was sold to some immigrants and they have fired all the experienced staff and rapidly run the shop into the ground. They seem to have taken no advices and paid no attention to why everyone liked Donut Shack so muchSuch a disappointment. This place has taken a real nose dive since new ownership. A few observations.... 1) Doughnuts have no taste (sweet) but more like salt. 2) Selection- Unlike in the past when doughnuts looked fresh and inviting based on a variety of selections to choose from- this isn't the case anymore. The selections look old as in day old (or even stale), I bought a "doughnut twist", bit into it and thought I was eating a piece of "white bread" based on its texture and lack of sweetness. While I don't eat a lot of doughnuts, I didn't mind driving "20 miles" for a doughnut now and again because I loath "DD and KK" and really liked the Donut Shack variety and taste... now I'll just do without.... read more

I've only been here once 4 years ago. The owners gave an attitude when I tried to pay with a credit card. It was my first time, so I didn't know. Donuts were not that great. I never went back again. The owners sold the donut shop in which the new owners didn't do so well. The original owner is helping another new owner setup properly. I tried it with the new owner recently. The donuts were mediocre. Definitely nothing to write home about. I'm not sure what all the hype is about. Donuts were heavy and some were too hard. The Boston creme was a mess. It contained creme in only 1/4 of the donut inside. The donut sticks had raw dough in the center and the outside was rock hard. Dunkin Donuts are definitely better than them. I think people think it's better than it really is due to nostalgia. Maybe people feel the need to help local businesses. If they can't do it properly then they have no business being in business. If you want light, fresh, and heavenly taste then I would recommend Carlson Donuts in Annapolis. They are the best hands down. It's also a Thai restaurant during lunch and dinner time. Their food is good if you don't like it too salty. I would recommend Thai Paradise(take out only) in Severna Park instead. "Sometimes" the the guy at the Amish market in Annapolis makes them well. read more

The Donut Shack is a small old-school donut shop off of Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. Owned and run by Bill Prevezanos and his family, this place offers a great selection of hand-cut donuts and pastries! We ordered an assortment of the yeast donuts, such as the honey, strawberry shortcake, Boston creme, the French cruller, and the maple glazed. Each donut was super fluffy, fresh, and not too sweet. My favorites were the Boston creme (filled generously with cream, I loved the cream and the chocolate frosting combination) and the Strawberry Shortcake (filled with a nice little whipped cream, this was a nice play in a donut form!). Staff were friendly, and the place gives off a retro vibe with little colorful stools and small wooden booths. Because this place is open 24/7, you can always get your donut craving satisfied! I've been going to Donut Shack for many years. I used to love them. The last 4 times I've gone the donuts are stale. I thought a Sunday morning donut run would be good, hoping donuts wouldn't be sitting around all day but I just bought a 1/2 dozen to give them another chance and ended up throwing them all away. It's sad they used to be the best donuts in town. I understand shortage of supplies with Covid, but that doesn't mean they should sell donuts that are stale...
