I was a client of the original Mutt and Joe in Severna Park MD for at least 15 years. The current owners who recently moved into a tiny trailer in the woods and changed their name to Chesapeake Pet Grooming is pitiful at best. I will never trust them with my pups wellbeing again. They are EXTREMELY rude, confrontational and unprofessional. There is no way they will stay in business if they continue to treat their loyal clients with such disrespect. I'm honestly disappointed I have been taking my dog here religiously for the last 10 years pretty much since they've opened .upon bringing her in for an appointment today (and she was just there a month or so ago ) they told me I needed all her vaccines updated. I had her rabies done yesterday for this appointment but apparently they not only require rabies, but also distemper and Bordetella, although the Bordetella is soft requirement. I have a 16-year-old dog who is comfortable with this place and has not had a distemper shot since 2019. So for 4 years she has been washed no problem but today they are turning me away. They'll see her if I get a waiver but apparently I can't sign a waiver stating if anything happens I won't hold them responsible . SMH - new ownership BTW ! Never going back ! I had really liked them but this is ridiculous for some soap and water. read more

Our chocolate lab's coat is incredibly thick. Her size and energy make thorough grooming at home difficult. We cannot believe how beautiful and shiny her coat is afterwards. Petting her without clumps of fur falling on the floor is just wonderful. She deserves to feel her best. The smile on her face since she returned home said she is happy too. This company is the worst place to take your pet i had a appointment that i made over a month ago. and 30mins before my appointment they called to tell me that they can't take me because they groomer called in sick i understand people get sick but my appointment was 11 am and they call me at 10:30 So i asked to talk to the owner and asked her way didn't you call me when you opened so i could make other arrangements. she told me that its not her problem and if i don't like it take my business somewhere else. WOW don't trust your pet to be at this place if something was to happen to your pet there i guess she would tell you to take your business some places else. read more

Complete rip off. The "towel dry" is them doing nothing -- my dog was soaked. They do not do full anal gland expression despite them telling me this is something they offer on the phone -- they make up some BS about just doing the outside. 25 minutes is not enough time to properly care for a dog and what you need. $90 with tip to get a bulldog washed, not dried, nails clipped. That's almost $200 an hour for a dog cleaning! They also have an obnoxious process to make you wait in your car to fill out paperwork, wait for them to get your dog, wait for them to bring your dog. COVID is over, let's get back to normalcy. I will never come back. read more

We scheduled an appointment with Mutt & Joe because our neighbors have mentioned taking their dog there. We recently adopted a young husky and it was time to have professionals help us get his coat brushed out. We have been brushing our dog daily since we got him a month ago and he is so chill while we do it. When my wife picked him up they suggested that we brush him more often because he was difficult to brush. She explained that we do daily and the groomer dismissed her and stated again that she should practice brushing more often. When we got him home she decided to sit in the yard and brush him. We were shocked at the amount of hair that we got off of him AFTER they supposedly took care of this. The attached picture shows the fur from one back leg. Complete rip off. I spent $70 for my 4 lb dog to get groomed. My dog was literally there for 15 minutes. Crap job. He came back wet, not brushed, looking a hot mess and traumatized. They don't even do bandanas or anything that a normal groomer does. I question if his glands were even expressed. I will never use this place again. Our groomer was rude and condescending. They have a ton of "rules" about being late picking up yet when they told me my dog was ready I got there and had to still wait. They were confused if his services has been done. Once again, I'm very disappointed in the service and lack of professionalism with Mutt & Joe's. Over the past year, I have remained loyal to this business despite last minute changes or cancellations to my appointment due to their scheduling conflicts or limited availability with a groomer. Today was no exception. My appointment was changed without notice and I was told they could not complete the grooming portion of the services. Because of that, I will need to schedule an additional appointment to facilitate the cut. If you have an abundance of time, patience and money, this is a great spot. This place is an adorable local business. Staff is super friendly. Only $15 for nail clipping and brush! Usually take her to petsmart but had bad experiences so checked out this place and they're awesome! Great staff great prices great coffee. What more could you ask for! *I originally gave this place 5 stars but after going here for almost two years, every time my Charley gets a bath she throws up when we get home. Only the bath, I think maybe the "cologne" is too strong. So in the future I'll just ask for less spray on her. I still love this place and recommend it to anyone! read more

We took our dog (Jojo) there today and it initially gave me great anxiety. While he has been going there for years to see Miss Rae, Covid has made things more complicated. I couldn't have been happier/more impressed with their response. I called ahead to ask the protocol and told them I was bringing my under 2 year old(out of necessity) who is too young to wear a mask. They instantly offered to come to my car and pick up Jojo. Rae was courteous and professional as always. I was able to leave payment over the phone and Rae returned Jojo to my car as handsome as ever. Coffee(ground to my liking) included! If you're looking for a place... this is it!!! I have taken my dog here 3 times now and didn't have a problem. On the 3rd appointment when I went to pick my dog up I was charged $20 more then before. I was paying like $70 and when I went to pick my dog up they told me it would be $90! I was caught off guard and was a bit frustrated. They should have explained the situation and said there would be a price change. They said they had her in the wrong breed... a miniature not a standard doodle. Also when they brought my dog out to me I was not happy with the hair cut. So between her bad haircut and the ridiculous price I was unhappy. So I took her home and the more I looked at her the more annoyed I was, especially for paying $90! So I called and left a message... saying they should have told me the next time my price would go up and I let them know that I wasn't happy about the cut.... A couple days later someone called me back and apologized and gave me a $20 credit and offered to fix the cut... I said perfect, that works for me. I took My dog in and they "fixed her haircut" and then told me I was banned from bringing my dog here again because I was berating the groomer and said that they ruined my dog. read more

In one word, our first visit to Mutt & Joe was amazing. We showed up 30 minutes before they closed, fully expecting the staff to say they could not take the dog until the following day. However, they were extremely friendly and assured us that the dog would be fully washed and dried in 30 minutes. I did not think this was possible because typically taking the dog to another similar dog was & coffee spot in Annapolis takes at least an hour and 9 out of 10 times he comes back still very damp. After the dog was all done, I couldn't believe how clean he looked. He's had plenty of baths from other dog places however this was by far the cleanest he's ever looked. I greatly appreciated the staff taking the extra time to brush him out and give top notch service even though it was right before closing. I will only be taking my dog to Mutt & Joe from now on! read more

What a fantastic local business. We love supporting local but also are picky about receiving good service. Here goes my review of Mutt & Joe. The atmosphere is very cool and welcoming. I made an appointment and they knew who we were and addressed me and my pup by name when we walked in. Both the staff and the other customers were very friendly and pleasant, giving my dog lots of positive attention and "good boy"s. We chose to get just a bath and nails trimmed because my pitty doesn't have very high maintenance fur. They got the job done in 20 minutes which was great- I had coffee in the coffee shop, where they served up my latte with local organic milk- it was cheaper than Starbucks and of course tasted better! This is my kind of place... The owner chatted with me for a little bit and she was very pleasant, you can tell she is passionate about her business and a true dog lover. She gave my pup some yummy organic treats and even gave me a few to take with me. When I forked over my credit card I was also impressed with the damage- it was very well priced- about $30 for the wash and nails plus a nice scented doggy cologne (they have about 20 to choose from- we got some kind of woodland musk or something, my dog now smells handsome and manly). I took my greyhound here today for a treat. It was anything but. When we went in, an employee had a little dog who was so nervous in the waiting room. He was shaking and whining. The employee said to me, "Yeah, most dogs don't like coming here." I should have taken that as a warning. They took my dog to the back to wash him. I went next door to get a coffee then asked to go in the back. Not even 10 minutes had passed. Another employee stood with my 80-pound shaking, wet, cold dog in a four-foot tall metal tub. He said, "She's done." My dog is a male! How well do you think he did washing him?!?! I was also very unhappy that he had been lifted up into this tall tub for a bath. I expected something on the floor that he could have walked in. I took him to this place because I didn't want him to stress about being lifted into my tub at home. This was so much worse. In front of the employee, I told my dog that I was sorry for taking him there. The second employee then said, "I don't know why. Dogs don't really like coming here." I think everyone should take note from two different employees. Don't bring your dog to Mutt & Joe. Awful. Just awful! read more

Everyone here is so pleasant and thoughtful. I came in during a storm and the girls grabbed a towel for me and my dog right away. After his shampoo, my dog was soft and shiny. He smelled great and his nails were trimmed perfectly. Best of all, he was pretty calm - Chrissy did a great job and he must have felt very comfortable with her. I love that they serve Zeke's coffee - I used to occasionally stop in for an Americano before I even had a dog! read more

I took my golden retriever to Mutt & Joe for the first time last Saturday. He has never looked better; even my husband commented on how good he looks. It's a little less expensive than where I had been taking him, but for such a good looking dog afterwards, it's worth more! I'd like to say that I will be a customer for the life of my dog, but the traffic and Benfield Rd are horrendous and scary, so that may be a deal breaker. My Boston Terrier is high energy and very strong. This makes it very difficult to do his nails. As a slightly younger dog, no fewer than two salons were simply unable to trim or dremel his talons because he was too wiggly and excitable. These guys had the right energy for his needs and had him done perfectly in fewer than 15 minutes. Nail trim package was $15 at our visit, which seemed high but not unreasonable. We take our Golden there often for a bath and paw trim. Overall good service and they seem to care about your pet. I suggest to be explicit in your directions or requests as there seems to be a bit of turnover on staff (seems nothing out of the ordinary for this type of service). Great people. They always do a fantastic job washing our two very large dogs and the dogs never seem stressed. Our dogs always get their nails done and ears cleaned while we are there and come out smelling good- I love the Christmas Cookie scent! Here it is, the down and dirty on this absolutely wonderful local business. Here is my review of the Mutt part. . . Our dog, a very large Bernese Mountain dog Bailey has been coming here since she was about 6 months old. So Mutt and Joe's has seen her grow as we have. She LOVES it here, first time or two, she was hesitant, now she knows when I make that turn on Benfield that she is coming to Mutt and Joe's. . .the groomers and bathers are wonderful, always caring for her and never performing an unnecessary service. If her pads need trimming they will do it, if they don't they wont. Some places would do it no matter what and charge you. So if they perform a service on Bailey she needed it. I am thrilled with the caring groomers and the service and the owner, well she's a hoot and worth just stopping in to talk too. You need to note, they do not crate your dog here, so when you drop your pooch off, and they say 45 minutes, they want you back in 45 minutes to get your hound. If not, they may charge a fee for keeping your dog past the allotted time, it hasn't happened to me, but they warn you on the front side. . .just an FYI. . .no need to be late, you are usually just next door at the Joe part of Mutt and Joe's Here is my review of the Joe part. . .Great coffee, great service, they serve Zeke's coffee which is a bold brew that is much, much better than any chain coffee house. No over roasted beans here. The bagels and sandwiches are wonderful, cookies and scones are made in house and they have many gluten free options (although I love my glutens, others do not, so they are good for both sides of the gluten street). The milk and cream they use come from a local creamery, South Mountain Creamery in Western Maryland. They deliver locally and they have the absolute BEST products. Mutt and Joe's is a great local business that all should visit. Just my two cents for the yelping world. read more

Today, was the first day I had taken my dog to Mutt & Joe's. Petey, my dog, is a 9yr old Yorkie Poo who has a lot of allergies, etc. He is known to be super energetic (and crazy), with a lot of anxiety. For the 2.5 yrs I have been living in MD, I would have to say that this is first positive grooming experience that I've had. The staff is friendly & fabulous ( I have been in the service industry my whole life, so this is huge)!!! My baby wasn't even upset or scared afterwards, which made me so happy :)... Ive been here once before last year and had no issues. So I decided to try them again today. I made my dog an appointment today at 1:00pm for a groom. When I arrived At 12:15 I explained I live 30 minutes away and that's why I was a bit early. They told me no problem and took her back about 15 mins later. I Was told they would call when she's ready. I got the call and immediately came to get her. The guy calls about 10 mins later to tell me they charge $15 for every 15 mins late to get the dog. This isn't listed ANYWHERE on their website or explained at drop off. If someone states they live 30 mins away wouldn't it make sense to explain this to them at drop off? Dishonest businesses practice as holding the dog for 30 mins while the owner drives over is pretty standard in the grooming industry. Especially when her appointment wasn't until 1:00pm so her being there until 1:30 didn't impact anything. To top it off the dog was still wet when we picked her up despite paying for her to be blow dried. So all the extra time in there and they couldn't dry her off all the way? Unfortunately we won't be back after today. read more

I'm not even sure where to begin. Let me first say that I had two other extremely negative experiences with this shop over the last two years. I was very reluctant about writing a review because anyone can have a bad day. However, I have now experienced my third and final visit to Mutt & Joe. I have never been treated so rudely...by an owner, no less! From the second I came into the shop, I felt disdain from this woman. Her very first words, and in a very rude tone, were "Does your dog have its shots?" to which I replied yes she does. Her second reply, again very rudely "All of them?" to which I replied yes and then I asked nicely if she asks all clients for their shot records to which she replied "No" so I am not sure what the point of asking me that question was, but I let it go. I was there on a weekend morning, when one of these types of businesses would normally be very busy and it was not. This should have been a clue to me. I have gone to dog self-washes several times in the past and never seen it so quiet on a weekend morning. The owner basically told me she could get me in right away with a groomer but I would have to wait a long time, her words, for the only self-wash station they have. The other stations were for the higher-priced grooming. I understand business completely, and said I had no problem waiting. I told her I was only going to be 15 minutes as my dog was low-maintenance I wash her and towel dry her, clean her ears and am on my way. I go to several of these places as three of my four dogs are pretty easy to groom on my own. I don't use the dryers and all of the other options they have. I waited 45 minutes, during which time, not one other person came into the shop. Eventually, one of the staff decided to go ahead and let me use one of the three unused basins. All the while, the scowling-faced owner sat on a stool texting people. The only times she stopped texting were to ask me, in a very rude tone, a little about my dogs. Every time I answered her with anything, she made a rude comment back. I honestly thought I was on an episode of "What Would You Do?" or something like that. I just couldn't understand being treated that way. When I first got there, one of her regular clients' was leaving. Her dog was playing a bit with my dog. Like all dogs, play can turn a little too aggressive at some point, which this did. I didn't make a big deal about it. However, the owner insisted the dog was just playing, which she was not, at that point. It was very irresponsible of her and she tried to make me feel like I don't understand animal behavior or dog play. I have four dogs, have had dogs all my life, am a part of rescue, worked with dog trainers, have had my dogs at dog parks, daycare, and had numerous interactions with dogs. When I asked her staff if she was always like this, they replied "She's in a bad mood today" and actually I heard the same excuse the last two times I was there and asked the same question. Her staff seemed afraid of her. There was a negative vibe in there. Overall, this business would better be served if the owner stayed home. Honestly, this was one of the rudest experiences I have ever had with a business owner that is taking my money for services. I will never be back. I would drive 30 minutes, out of my way, to use a similar business elsewhere. The services were fine but certainly no different than any other dog wash out there. Why would I then bother with a place that treated me that way? read more

We recently visited Mutt & Joe to use the self wash station after several friends recommended we give it a try. When we walked in I was surprised to see how dirty and run down the grooming room appeared. It was so shocking we almost left without bathing the dogs, but we decided to give it a try before passing judgement. We were escorted to the back portion of the grooming room to the self wash station. The stainless tub was visibly dirty and it was obvious it hadn't been cleaned or sanitizer after the last use. The drying area was filthy and covered in dog hair. At this point I should have left but I felt too awkward and we had already paid, so we stayed. We brought our own shampoo (although it is provided) and quickly got to work so we could get out of there. Half way through the bath the tub water stopped draining and started backing up due to an excessive amount of hair in the drain. I found a staff member who came to clean it out (it was clearly not just hair from my dogs) and they assured us we should be fine. Several minutes later the drain backed up again and I was forced to find someone else to clean it out once again. Even after a second try the water was slow to drain and the dogs were sitting in dirty water. We quickly finished up and had to hold each dog out of the water in order to wash them and ensure the soap and dirty water had been rinsed. In addition to they drying area being filthy, the towels were so thin and they only provided three towels for two dogs (realistically we needed like six they were so thin). We decided to forego drying our long haired dogs and take them home wet just so we could get out of there. The floors were so gross we carried the dogs out to the car. On a positive note, the water pressure was decent and the temperature was easy to control/consistent. Due to the overall cleanliness of the facility and the equipment, we will not be returning. We've used several other self wash stations in the area and none have been this dirty. I feel bad saying that as we really wanted to like this place based on others recommendations, but our experience was just too negative to give it another try. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place!!!! I have a 5 year old Yorkie with a skin condition that has super thin hair in some areas & thicker in others. He also has severe car anxiety so by the time we get to their location he is all wound up. This is honestly the only place that I trust to groom him. They are so gentle & treat the dogs like they are their own! As an extra bonus they have an awesome coffee shop attached to the dog grooming area. I highly recommend you try the chocolate chip cookies.. you won't be disappointed :) read more

I would give the cafe 2 stars, and the grooming 4 stars, but I'm giving a star on top of the average because the employees were great and the concept is wonderful! The Cafe only had gluten free baked goods, brewed coffee was Zekes which is good, the plain latte was not great and the syrups were just Torani. Mutt's groomers were great with my dog. She is short-haired and sweet, so I didn't anticipate any problems with the female groomers, but the guy that was there was great, as well. Grooming was very quick and prices on both sides are not cheap but less than average in this area. read more
