We went on a Saturday for dinner. We walked in and the place was empty. This place does lots of take out orders. The young lady behind the counter was very nice and helped us out. At first there was no feeling we were in a Jamaican restaurant until they turned on the music. We ordered the reggae platter. It came with 4 choices of meat. Ribs, golden wings, jerk shrimp and jerk chicken. I'm not going to describe each one because they were all amazing. It also came with cornbread, rice, cabbage and plantains. My wife and I have been to Jamaica several times and this food brought us right back to the island. As they say on the island "respect". That's what I say to Morgan's. read more

Another meal, and Morgan's is still worthy of the high star Yelp acclaim and serves up some very delicious Caribbean Island cuisine. We have been here several times now and have ordered the oxtail platter, jerk chicken platter, curry chicken platter as well as a side of mac and cheese. This time we had the Red Snapper Platter. It was great, just wish there was nice snapper for the price. It's a whole snapper bones and all! The portion sizes are very generous and we easily split a large platter between two adults. The platters are served with rice and beans, cabbage, plantains and a piece of corn bread. The chicken is succulent, flavorful, and spicy. The corn bread is among the best I've had and the mac and cheese amazing. The rice and beans was as Caribbean as you're going to get. The only thing I didn't care for is their cabbage or mixed vegetables, because it's bland in comparison to the other food on my plate. The main reason, my reviews forgo a star is the salt content as well as it takes a while to get your order. DAMN! This was a good one on a chilly November Friday night. Had a really, really tasty piece of salmon. Excellent char, the right amount of crunch. "Burnt without being burnt," if that makes sense. Cornbread fire too. Owner came by to check on each table personally - love that. We'll have to come back for the stew chicken and the soup. and FYI - good Caribbean food *takes time*. The food was a good effort with good portion size . The jerk chicken was very dry. The oxtail was okay; too salty and mid way through I couldn't eat anymore. The plantain was ripe and cooked well. Unfortunately there is a blue lives matter flag on the door of this Jamaican restaurant, so we will obviously never return. read more

Rasta pasta waa very tasty and delicious except for the overcooked chicken pieces. Curry chicken was too salty and curry masala needed to cooked more it tasted that turmeric taste. What a gem! I ordered the medium BBQ Jerk Chicken and it was FANTASTIC!!! Even the cabbage was superbly flavored. And who even compliments cabbage, right?!? It was THAT good! The chicken was juicy, the cornbread had a lovely distinct taste unlike your run-of-the-mill cornbread, and the rice was good, too! I wished there were more plantains but that's just me being greedy. Their medium portion was more than enough for 2 meals so I had the rest for lunch the next day. My server was kind and helpful. The place could use a little sprucing up, especially the bathroom (...it's ok...I wasn't eating in there), but despite all that, it just felt comfortable. The cabbage is cooked but flavorful and crisp, and jerk is very jerky and thoroughly cooked and the start of the show, the Ox Tails are all that. Small bone, more meat. I stumbled upon Morgan's Island Grill when I visited New Jersey. It's located in a cute little neighborhood called Highstown. The restaurant itself is a cute like hole in the wall with both indoor and outdoor seating. I was greeted and my order was taken by the owner, himself. He was such a friendly and helpful person. I love my spicy food so immediately ordered the Jerk Shrimp meal and boy...IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Spicy, flavorful, good portion and they sure were not stingy with their shrimp. We vacationed in Jamaica, and unfortunately stayed at a resort without much Jamaican food. As soon as we returned to NJ, we knew we had to visit Morgan's again. We grabbed some Red Stripes from the bar down the block, and arrived just in time to grab a table outside where a Jamaican band was playing. Service was quick. We ordered the roti skin appetizer. I had dry rubbed chicken wings with a side of plantains, cabbage & rice. My meal was delicious - super fresh and enjoyable. My husband had some sort of chicken too (I forget how it was prepared) but he liked it with the spicy bbq sauce on the side. He worked with my budget and I repeatedly stressed the importance of non-spicy food. Kenny did not disappoint. EVERYONE...yes...ALL 52 guests complimented the food. The mac and cheese was yummy and so was their cornbread. I just wish they offered normal sized bottles of water; we received mini bottles. We'll be back to try something new. I needed to have some good food for my daughter's baby shower and I called Morgan's Island Grill and we talked about what I wanted. Morgan was so friendly and patient with me he made me feel like a member of his family so I knew the food would be good. On the day of the event he walked in very happy to be there and brighten up the room. Well not only was the food delicious he brought food I did not order. Every dish was chef's kiss. People were lined up and ready to eat every last bite on their plates. People went back for seconds and were still able to take food home with them. I've had the pleasure of frequenting Morgan's Island Grill for just about seven years, and from my previous reviews, what furthermore is there to say? Morgan's Island Grill's food has always been fresh (most every dish is prepared fresh), bold with flavors, generously portioned, and simply stated.....delicious! Customer service is always friendly, especially Chef Morgan himself, who is so amiable to all customers. When he has rare free time, no doubt he will be greeting customers and being an amicable host. In my seven years, I've seen him garner a large and loyal repeat customer base (mark me and my sister as part of that group); a testament to the quality of the food, the staff, and Chef Morgan as a restaurateur. Bottom line, if you're reading this review, and have not tried Morgan's.....I suggest you plan a visit as soon as possible!! read more

Just fabulous. Some of the best food from the islands that I have had anywhere. The jerk wings appetizer was outstanding and spicy enough to feel but not so spicy as to rip your insides apart.
