While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

Appointments became rushed, started late, and lacked even basic professionalism. You're barely greeted when you walk in, and the overall tone makes it feel like you're inconveniencing them just by being there. I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"

I was a bit disappointed to see that it looked nothing like the picture and it was fake rose petals which I thought was weird. I'll give them an A for effort though although it looked nothing like the picture. The massage was amazing. She did a really great job. Most of my massages are pretty rough but she did a great job with light to medium pressure. I really liked the glass of champagne and the chocolate truffles. The private soak was nice but I really enjoyed the sauna. It was definitely a great experience. Came out feeling revitalized. My boyfriend really enjoyed the massage and the amenities.

I color my hair and I want it to look beautiful and NATURAL. Thats what you get when you go and see Jenna at Dop Dop Salon. Not only is she professional, kind, cool and saavy, she is truly an artist when it comes to coloring hair. She specializes in the Balayage technique which is basically painting your hair. I have never gotten so many compliments in my life about my hair! Jenna is efficient but always takes the time to really find out what you want. I am a natural dirty-blonde and like to lighten my hair a few shades, but this fall when I was getting bored with the same old look we agreed to go strawberry blonde, and it looks gorgeous. I swear Jenna can do anything, if you want to make your hair blue, she will make it the most beautiful shades of blue that flatters your look. And I really trust her because if she doesn't think something will work on you, she'll tell you; I never have to worry about a bad idea on my part turning into a disaster, because Jenna takes really good care of me! I hate to rave too much, because I am selfish and want to keep her all to myself. But, Jenna always makes me look beautiful, and as a thank you I've got to spread the word. She NEVER dissapoints! As for the rest of Dop Dop's staff, I've never had an issue there and I really like the whole salon in general. The receptionists are professional, the assistants are all really friendly and give great scalp massages. I'm always offered water/soda/a glass of wine. Nancy Casiano-Zenna is an amazing hair stylist DOP DOP, and she absolutely did the most amazing job on my hair I have ever had done. I've had all kinds of things done to my hair --- but nobody has ever really taken the time to listen to me and give me exactly what I need. Nancy is intuitive, talented, and dedicated. She makes sure you are 100% happy, and she makes that her job. I came to Nancy because I loved how HER hair looked --- sexy and natural. I've struggled with single-process blonde....box-color blonde....the whole deal. She sat down with me and we looked through magazines together. She is so light, and friendly, and gracious -- I totally trusted her. Nancy restored my natural hair color (light golden brown) and added two rounds of ash-blonde balayage highlights. The result is STUNNING -- like woven gold, and shockingly NATURAL --- back how my hair looked as a kid after being in the sun all summer. It's designed to grow in really well too, which is great b/c I don't want to have to have touch ups at the salon every 3 weeks. This I can touch up every few months or so. I do not review things, post or blog but I owe it to Lori Zabel at Dop Dop to write this. I am a native New Yorker and uber groomer (hair, color, wax, eyebrows, makeup, nails) and have been to the best in the business and happily always get compliments. I get my hair cut & colored every 4-6 weeks always have something new. I followed stylists from Bumble, to Oribe, to Job Frieda and Warren Tricomi. Lori at DopDop has been doing my cut & color for several years now and I LOVE may hair. I am so happy when I look in the mirror, people stop me to tell me how fantastic my hair looks. I was at a holiday party for my industry last night and people kept coming up to me- to tell me how much they loved my hair! The photographer took my photos for free because he liked my hair. Crazy! And Lori is a true professional. I am easy as I tell her to do whatever she wants but she consults with her clients, gets to know them and makes sure she gives them a fabulous and up-to-date look that will make them happy. I have been seeing Deborah Novick for many years and was thrilled when she joined the creative team at Dop Dop Salon. The salon is beautiful - very "now", and the staff is super accommodating and friendly. Deborah has been the sole provider of my color and cuts for about 7 years. She is just she's amazing! I am a restless style seeker - pretty much wanting to re-invent the wheel every time I see her. She has seen me through many phases - long, short, blonde, brunette - and everything in between. She makes strong recommendations for what works best for me and helps me achieve my far-reaching hairstyle goals time and time again. She also took care of my hair & makeup needs for me & my bridesmaids on my wedding day... and I have never felt more beautiful. She glammed me up, but I still looked like ME. The main reason I go to Dop Dop is because a great friend of mine, Melanie, is a stylist there. I can honestly say that in my 25 years of life she is the only stylist I have ever let cut my hair more than once. I've always had problems with haircuts. No one had ever taken the time to consider my daily routine and personal style the way Melanie has. You can tell by her consultations and the time she spends on the cut that she really cares about what she is doing and will not allow you to walk out of the salon disappointed. She has been cutting my hair for about 2 years now and I have given up on trying to figure out what style I want- I just leave it up to Melanie because I trust her that much! On a side-note, the salon itself is great. I love the atmosphere; I don't ever feel uncomfortable or out of place, which is very important to me. I've been to other salons where the staff treats you like you are beneath them, and this is definitely not the case at Dop Dop. I had the pleasure and luck of being invited personally by stylist Mary Darnell on the train platform one rainy morning in the summer to be client on educational night. Mary Darnell saved me from a double process that need 911 help. I had gone from black (dyed hair) to blonde!! The goal was a creamy platinum and the salon i went to the first time struggled with achieving my goal. Mary from Dop Dop SAVED me! She has mad coloring skills, she takes her time, and is well trained and experienced. I walked out of that Salon with a head turning blonde. A blonde the color of expensive champagne, and the great thing was is that Mary really cared, and she left the salon feeling happy too. I am queen of impatient, and doing amateur things to my own hair, and having manic moments that I want to change my color! My first experience at Dop Dop was quite wonderful... it's very easy to find right off the F train. Making an appointment was easy, and there was almost no wait at all. Everyone who worked there was friendly, and very attentive. I could not be more impressed by the actual salon, it was very modern and sleek. Every stylist seemed to have a different personality and their own personal style, which added nicely to the whole experience. Melanie Neal was the stylist who has been cutting my hair for years, she's awesome. I used to have long hair, and I trusted her to chop it all off without any directive, and she made me look fabulous. She's very intuitive, and she knows how to style your hair to complement you... She also takes time to explain how to style your hair at home, which is something very important to me. There was not a time I went to her that I couldn't reproduce the same look on my own. Words can't describe how excited I am to be back in the hair-care of Fallon Fitzpatrick! Fallon is amazing and intuitively zeroed in on exactly what I wanted with my color (I am very particular with my hair color and highlight placement). I was instantaneously thrilled with my color (which by the way, is a deep eggplant with large chunks of strategically placed blonde highlights) and its intensity lasted much longer (about a solid 5 weeks) without much fading. Fallon is so knowledgeable about hair on every level - and she will let you know the best strategies for your hair type, health and lifestyle, without pushing anything on you that you don't want. The salon is very welcoming and the staff are extremely attentive. I was immediately offered refreshments (wine, tea, water) and Fallon was all ready for me so there was no waiting. I've been torturing my hair for as long as I can remember. I am very particular about who does my hair because of the constant processing I put it through. I used to fly home every 5 weeks to get my hair done! Long story short, upon a recommendation from a friend I ended up at Dop Dop with Jay as my stylist. I can't say enough positive things about the care at which she took to rescue my hair and plan a strategy for my hair's return to health. After a few months, I have to say I have never been happier with my hair, color and cut. Dop Dop is also in a great location and has really convenient hours. Being able to make a 7pm appt for cut and color is something that i haven't found anywhere else. It's so nice not to have to take up my weekend time. I have been getting my hair cut and colored by Jo, the owner of Dop Dop, for over 22 years. I used to go to Jo when she was at colorist at Jon Dellaria, before she opened Dop Dop in 1996. In my opinion, Jo is the best in the business. It comes as no surprise that such a meticulous colorist and stylist, would run nothing short of a top notch salon. Dop Dop is a warm and inviting environment and the staff is exceptional. I can't even count how many times people have commented on my great color and cut and have asked for Dop Dop's contact info. And so many friends and acquaintances-- some of whom I have lost touch with over the years-- have become loyal clients that I get updates on how they are from Jo when I come into the salon. I got my hair colored by Jo last Tuesday. On my way home, TWO people stopped me and asked me where I got my hair done. That is the best compliment I can give this salon. When strangers on the street glimpse at you for one second and notice how great your hair looks, notice it to the point where they stop you on the street...it is the greatest feeling. Jo knows her color, she knows how to compliment your skin tone to the color of your choice. The atmosphere at the salon is very pleasant. The staff is very attentive from the minute you walk in the door. Plus, it is the kind of place you feel comfortable in no matter who you are. You don't have to be some hipster to go to Dop Dop. She knows exactly what I am looking for, listens to my suggestions, but I know that in the end she is going to give me exactly what I need. I trust her 100% and she never misses the mark! I had the best experience with Dale who does wonders with a scissors and is an expert at blow outs. However, I had the worst experience with one of the colorists that many of the other reviews thought was great. She was very nice (so I don't want to mention her name), but has no idea what blond means. I am blond and have always been blond, not red, not yellow. I explained in great detail I wanted my hair to be similar to what it was, ash with white highlights and emphasized NO RED or YELLOW. I left with copper hair and drove home in tears. The closest to a compliment I got was "it doesn't look awful." At least 10 people asked me why I decided to go red. I am trying a different colorist today and hope my experience is better. If Jay were merely the bonafide hair-genius that she is, I would stick to my grinchy ways and deny her the props she rightly deserves. Fallon is the best stylist I've ever had! I basically destroyed my hair in school with a mixture of stress, heat styling, and a bad cut. It was breaking and just getting shorter and thinner. I went to several salons and no one could fix it, they tried keratin or opti which washed out in a matter of days. But then I found Fallon! She actually was able to save my hair. When she did opti it finally worked. She explained my hair issues and set a cutting schedule. My hair is now the longest and healthiest it's been in years! Everyone comments on how great my hair looks now. I only need the opti twice a year. Fallon takes her work seriously and it shows in how she treats you and your hair. I've been going to Dop Dop since 2015. The reason I keep coming back is because Jo and her team are welcoming, professional and work MAGIC with hair color. The best part is Jo makes sure you absolutely love your hair before leaving her chair. There was a short break in my regular appointments when I briefly lived in London. While in the UK, I struggled to find anything that came close to the experience and quality of Dop Dop. After some panicked messages, and some dismal hair color fiascos, Jo talked me through exactly what I needed to ask for while abroad. Incredible stylist! super attentive and considerate of my preferences! And I am very picky about my cuts! Got my hair double processed, cut and dyed lime green and it turned out perfectly Must also applaud the salon on how they are handling business during a pandemic. I felt really safe and at ease being indoors for an extended period of time getting a double process and cut. temperature check upon arrival, questionnaire, socially distanced chairs, freshly dry cleaned Dop Dop robes (always a great part of any visit-they're so luxurious). Everyone is super friendly and professional here from the junior stylists to reception to the owner Jo. Highly recommend Janine and the rest of the staff to all genders and hair types! read more

In a city where there are hundreds of restaurants, hundreds of bars, hundreds of shops & hundreds of salons, it's nearly impossible to just stumble into the best of the best... So let's just get that out of the way. When it comes to hair cuts, color & overall pampering, Dop Dop is the best of the best. It's always true, you get what you pay for. And going to Dop Dop, you will not be disappointed. Professional & personable at the same time, the people at this salon are like family to me. I actually fly from Florida once a month to have my platinum blonde done. My livelihood is based on the way I look, so I absolutely would not trust my hair to just anyone. I'm so passionate about the services done by Jenna Viney at Dop Dop that I'm dedicating my first Yelp! review ever to this master colorist. She is an artist. I have been going to her for two years as my colorist for my half-head highlights, and will never stray. She applies L'Oreal INOA color in a technique that can be described as hair-painting: seriously "painting" one lock of hair at a time to give it a truly sun-colored look. She gives sharp, studied and clear advice about the health and beauty of your hair, and she's down to earth. She loves her dog. She consults with you and listens before starting in. A friend recommended Nancy to me for balayage highlights (which I had never heard of before) and a cut one year ago, just two weeks before my wedding day! I was nervous because I really wanted something natural. Not only was I pleasantly surprised, but Nancy made my hair look better than ever. I refuse to let anyone else touch my hair now. Also, I am one of those pony tail, on the run kind of gals, so I love that I don't have to do anything and my hair looks great just because of the way she cuts it! Nancy also cuts my husband's hair now too, and he's never been happier with his hair cuts. She absolutely knows her stuff and I HIGHLY recommend her. It looks like she tried to cover up the bad job by bleaching the top layer to the color I would like. Also there is no haircut, she literally just cut off the ends in the span of 5 minutes. I've asked other stylists about it and they are just as confused as am I as to what she was thinking. Now I have to spend the same amount if not getting it fixed :(

She worked with me to both re-do my peek a boo style and add to it as I wanted more pink. She really created dimensions, and it's like a beautiful balayage look with face framing highlights. I'm so in love with my look! We chose a brighter pink too so that it will fade nicely. She also blended my highlights so beautifully so that it would grow out nicely. She also explains the whole time what she will be doing to your hair so you can even check in along the way if you're that type of client. Daphne is sooo amazing with color and I thought it was a pretty efficient service time and great price (compared to what I normally go through and pay for in SoCal). Maybe I had too high expectations after reading soo many wonderful reviews of her and her salon. She seemed stuck up(I get it you work w/ models during fashion week woohoo) and the salon environment wasn't exactly relaxing (there was a lot of bickering going on). I don't think the cut is completely TERRIBLE (its pretty bad though...I look like a mushroom!) and especially after paying that much for a haricut I expected something better. I also didn't like the dry cut technique, where she washes your hair, straightens it and then cuts it. You leave the salon with super uber straight hair which on me looked too flat and like I hadn't washed my hair in a few days! So maybe its a preference thing...... Aside "Its all about me" Anecdote: I met up with a few of my friends after getting my haircut and 2 of them didn't realize I had gotten one. The third one remembered me mentioning my appointment and was like hey you were going to get a haircut, saw my hair, and commented "yea its difficult to find a good hair salon in the city" :-( (ususally I get tons of compliments on my hair pre and post haircut). Talk about crushing your self esteem eh! I will most definitely not be visiting again..can't wait for my hair to grow out and getting a proper cut somewhere else. Atleast I gave it a shot!
