Honestly I wasn't going to leave a review even after receiving the worst coloring job I've ever had, but I was really disappointed by how Mariah responded so I felt obligated to share my experience. I came in for a balayage to lighten my dark hair to blonde, with 1 ask which was for it not to be orange. Unfortunately, it did come out super orange, but I left convincing myself it was just the lighting. After many friends agreed it was orange, I DMed Mariah on Instagram to see if she could fix it. I came back the next day, but it got even worse. Mariah ended up bleaching my hair again after admitting it did look very warm, and it somehow looked even worse than the day before - more pieces were orange, the highlights were chunky and not blended at all. I've attached a picture of what it looked like right before blow drying (keep in mind this is what the "fix" is supposed to be). She first told me there was nothing else she could do, blaming it on my hair by saying that's all my hair would lift to (even though I have had seamless balayages in one go before), before telling me to come back AGAIN the next day to try to fix it again. She told me that in the meantime I could wear my hair in a slickback (?) Initially, I agreed to the new appointment after she said 100% she would be able to fix my hair. However, I lost trust considering I had already given an opportunity to fix my hair. I found a new salon, and DMed Mariah VERY nicely about it, even thanking her for her attempt at fixing it. I received no response, no apology, no accountability, and saw that she had instead blocked my account. I thought this was super unprofessional, especially considering how understanding I tried to be about the whole situation. Last thing - there is someone else that left a review on Mariah, with very similar experiences to mine about 4 years ago on Google Reviews. My hair was similarly orange with lots of mismatched shades, not blended in to my natural hair at all. Unfortunately, I would not recommend going to this salon for coloring. read more

Janine is a miracle worker! I have never been so happy with my hair before. I asked for a very dark brown with purple undertones - which I asked for at my last appointment and wasn't thrilled with the results - and she gave me exactly what I wanted! My hair is the perfect shade and I left with it looking shiny and feeling amazing. I got so many compliments from my friends all day and had multiple people asking who did my hair so they could book too. In more than 10 years of patronage, I've never had a bad experience at Dop Dop. From the moment I enter, until the moment I leave -- with my next appointment secured -- I feel treated like royalty. The receptionists are efficient and on top of the ball; the shampooists are fantastic -- it's like a 5-min spa retreat for my scalp -- and, of course, the actual service I receive is top notch. The vibe in the space is warm and welcoming, and very clearly geared toward client comfort. I'm never without a drink (coffee, tea, cucumber water or wine) for more than 90 seconds. The space always feels clean and orderly. It's a lovely place to spend an hour or two. Jo is not only a terrific stylist, but also a kind and generous person, who never fails to remember the last thing we were talking about 6 weeks prior. I found Imani, a junior stylist, on Salon Apprentice, found her number and texted her to ask her questions about what she does, could she do my hair and also cut my children's hair. I booked her and I have to say that her color correction, style, extreme precision was phenomenal! She worked alongside Eddie, her mentor. He guided her, spoke to her about a few techniques, what she thought, and let her do her exceptional talent with my hair. My hair looks extremely expensive and gorgeous. I highly recommend making an appointment with Imani either through Salon Apprentice or through the salon itself. I will definitely be back!! I went to Dop Dop Salon almost 2 weeks ago because I needed a blowout for a virtual panel talk I was participating in. I had been to the salon once before in April for a haircut and loved it. This time, I booked using ClassPass, which made the experience super easy. Once I got there, the receptionist checked me in and I was greeted by my hairstylist Eddie. He was super friendly, listened to what I wanted and then directed me to get my hair washed. I don't remember the woman's name who washed my hair, but OMG -- it was the best hair washing experience ever. She really massaged my scalp and made sure I was comfortable. After I got my hair washed, Eddie got started on my hair. I had to attend a Zoom meeting while he was doing my hair, but he was super accommodating, checking on me to see if I liked the blowout as he was doing my hair. The end result was really beautiful and he used the wand curler to give my blowout it's finishing touches. The blowout lasted me a week and half, which is SO amazing considering the heat and humidity of NYC. Eddie made me feel super comfortable and his work is really great. You can tell he takes a lot of pride in what he does. Dop Dop is a great salon -- not only is the actual space large and beautiful, but the staff there are kind the hairstylists really know what they're doing. From the start, Lucky answered all my questions over the phone with expertise and based on what I was wanting to change with my very fine blonde hair, paired me with Master artist Eddie. Match made in HEAVEN! Eddie listened to all my concerns throughout the consultation never rushing me, help me streamline my vision with pictures he found, broke down the prices beforehand mentioning what is included (so many salons don't & he was great about it) & we got started with my full highlight ice blonde transformation.
