Mmmm, Dopi's. I love Dopi's. When we first got settled onto the island, we jumped on Yelp to find some lunch. Dopi's came up on the list - so we started the trek. The pin was wrong but two blocks, so I updated the location on Yelp. In any case, once we got there, we ordered some quesadillas, tacos, and guacamole. Everything was on point. The flavor of the meat -- awesome. The cheese? Well, the person that took our order and, oh by the way, was the same person that cooked our food -- he told us that they make their own cheese. The cheese was sooooooo good. Seriously -- that quesadilla was a symphony in a tortilla. We have been back several times since the first visit and will try to go back more times before we leave. We stumbled across Dopi's on a 2017 trip to Mexico. After staying on Isla, Playa del Carmen and Tulum we considered dinner here to be our best meal of the trip and began to refer to Dopi's as "The Lobster Quesadilla place" because the lobster in their quesadilla tasted like it was fresh from the ocean only moments before it was cooked. So Fresh. So when we went back last night we wondered if we had oversold the memory in our own minds. Nope, the food is was AMAZING. Lobster quesadilla still as we remembered and Mango Mahi Mahi was incredible. We've eaten at a few places on that street and Dopi's dinner has been our favorite in 2017 and again now in 2019. I liked the feel of this place. Relaxed and seemed family run. The server was very sweet. We got fish and shrimp tacos. They were pretty good. I usually prefer my fish tacos with grilled not fried fish. These were fried but still pretty good. The paella on the menu sounded amazing but we were there for lunch and it wasn't available yet. My first time at the restaurant, was steered here by Yelp reviews and a conversation I had with someone at another restaurant. Located on "restaurant row" so there is seating along the street, grab a table on the street, and enjoy the sights as people walk by. Chips and hot sauce were served shortly after I sat down. Chips were very good, hot sauce even better (about 6 on the heat meter, not even close to the "reminder" end of the scale). Didn't order guacamole, but some was brought out. Had no problem finishing it off as it was very good. The exact dish I wanted was not listed on the menu, so I asked the waiter for exactly what I wanted. He did not hesitate, just told me, no problem. Camarones ala plancha con ajo y mantequilla, it is! The shrimp turned out almost perfect, have to give the dish a 9+. A bit more char/grill marks on the shrimp, would've been a 10. Towards the end of the meal the waiter came by to ask how my meal was, at that point I found out, he is the owner, Dopi. Very nice guy! Look forward to going back to try the beef they are known for. The shrimp dish was roughly $11.50 US, which included everything that came before the meal. 5 stars for service alone! Raul was so accommodating and attentive to my girlfriend, Amanda and I. When we realized Dopi's doesn't take CC, Raul was willing to take our word and come back later with the money. We ordered the Molcajete after a member from a group on the side of us raved about the meal and proceeded to thank Raul, the Chef and everyone else from restaurant. Yep, he was right. We then proceeded to have another couple come in stating they heard Dopi's had the best steak on the island. Yep, they were right. Love this place. read more

Visiting Isla Mujeres for vacation and decided to come here based on good TripAdvisor reviews. DID. NOT. DISAPPOINT! Raul was our server and he exceeded every expectation one would have when going out to eat. He was extremely attentive and very accommodating. He was very knowledgeable about the menu when it came to the ingredients in the food and drinks as well as how everything was prepared. Our server Raul was also VERY proud of the menu. This place is incredible if you're visiting the island. We had my girlfriends parents anniversary dinner here and it was amazing. Raul and Dopi tended to us personally. The seafood was incredible. Personally I had the paella and a lobster quesadilla. Other dishes our party ate were the steaks which were hands down some of the best steaks we've ever had. Located in the northern end of Hidalgo is this fabulous restaurant. Owned and operated by Dopi and his wife Echo. Not only is the food good but the service is exemplary. Every restaurant in Isla serves up a variety of tacos. I've tried every variety all over the island. Hands down Dopi's has the BEST shrimp taco I've ever tasted. I dream of these tacos when I'm back home. The other food on the menu is amazing but, for me, I could eat their shrimp tacos every day and never get tired of them. Me and my hubby came here almost 8 years ago and still remember the delicious food we had there. Anyone we know that visits the Island, or Cancun, I always recommend them going! We must have cams here almost every day when we discovered it. A little mom and pop shop with really good food. The fish tacos were great and we also had the lobster quesadillas. Best ever!! The thing about Isla Mujeres is that so many places get incredible reviews. I blame vacation goggles. When you are sick of mediocre tacos, and are looking for a place that has an actual chef, welcome to Dopi's. Top playfull name and icon may give you the wrong idea. This place has amazing burritos. If you frequent the greater Cancun area, you know that it's mainly a world of tacos. Burritos are more of northern Mexico food. Fortunately, that's where this guy comes from. But what if you want seafood caught from the waters around the island? Well I have good news, you can find that here. The fish vary with the day. It's just kind of up to what the fishermen caught that day. I kind of like that. We discovered this place last year. We then ate there every single night for 4 or 5 night straight. We were a little embarrassed, but whatever we were on vacation. We went again this year two nights in a row but I feel guilty that we didn't say bye. It was a shorter trip on isla this time. I get to be the first yelp review though! The owner is a trained chef whose family owns cattle up in northern Mexico. His wife serves as hostess and waitress, and she's really great. We feel like we got to know her last year and this year. To be honest, we'd probably still order take out even if they were rude. The food really is some of our favorite on the island. However, good service is always a nice touch. Although, the word setting feels more apropos than the word service at Dopi's. read more

We have been going to the island for years and for some reason, had never tried Dopi's. We now wish that we had eaten there earlier in the week so that we could eat there again! Avoid Dopi's. On our first visit we asked that our leftover filet mignon be boxed to go. Later, upon paying and about to leave, we asked fpr our takout box. We were given a foam box with someone else's table scraps, not our nce big steak. Maybe Dopi figured we wouldn't look until back at the hotel. We asked what happened, Dopi denied knowledge, unpersuasive, but did make us another steak to go. So he did right after being caugjt doing us wrong. This Christmas we chose Dopi's and it was a big mistake. We went early before it was crowded. After waiting abput an hour we adked our server how much longer. He went to find out, then told us Dopi said "just wait or just leave". After another long wait we asked again and Dopi himself told us "wait or just leave", very rudely. So we chose to leave, and the group next to us, who also waited too long, and witnessed how we were treated, also left. Dopi's food is pretty good, but overpriced. Bettersteaks and seafood are available at better prices elsewhere, and without the egotistical arrogant rudeness. read more
