Who knew? Well, most of the locals knew based on how many people were here for lunch on a Thursday. Once upon a time, this was a somewhat scary place to purchase who-knows-what. I never ventured in but drove quickly by. I also don't get out for lunch, but a group of my coworkers were going, and I tagged along. They all said to order one or more quesadillas, and if you are really hungry, they suggested ordering three. I ordered one, total cost under $3. The quesadilla was oozing with delicious cheese, fresh lettuce and was enclosed in a flavorful, fried tortilla. I seriously have never had anything like it. I asked for mild sauce, and next time I'll try the green sauce. One of my coworkers had two of the quesadillas and a chicken taco that had really fresh-looking avocado slices. Maybe he didn't have breakfast because I was full after one quesadilla. Definitely on the list for a return visit. read more

Ambience-not exactly! Great Mexican food! This is really a convenience store that sells tasty food. There are a number of tables so you could actually seat a group of twelve here quite comfortably. There are no other stores anywhere near so this has to be your destination. There is parking for about six cars in the lot but there are many places to park on the street. The menu is quite eclectic and very reasonably priced. Where else can you get a hand-made, freshly cooked, mouth-watering quesadilla for $2.75 (February 2016)? Not my experience: a super quesadilla cost nearly $15 and took at least half an hour while they make you wait in a hot car in 100 temperatures. Saw an article on the Internet about Dora's Deli and decided to give it a try. I had the Asada taco and a beef taco and my wife had the vegetarian taco. After we ordered, we were told to wait outside (Covid precautions) and after about 10 minutes or so and they brought our order outside where we were waiting in our car. First impressions were good...my tacos were loaded down with meat and cilantro and my wife's taco was full of rice, beans and veggies. Problem is they were barely luke warm? They had just fixed them fresh but they were barely warm? Taste wise they were just ok to us...nothing that I couldn't have prepared for myself at home. read more

This will always be my favorite location for tacos. They press the tortillas right in front of you - well they used to. While the food remains delicious, the atmosphere has drastically changed. The owners shut down their more popular "Worm Ranch" location in College Place during the pandemic. The 3rd Ave. site is still running, but it's a husk of what used to be. There are makeshift barricades blocking the deli counter, they are no longer selling snacks and most drinks. Once you order your food, you are required to wait outside in your car. Someone will yell at you when your food is ready, and you pick it up from a table inside the door. Other restaurants in town are back to business as normal. It's very depressing coming here! Well, based on our last review from a week ago, you could tell we were sooo looking forward to getting back in to Dora's asap! Sorry to report back, it was a demoralizing second trip. :( Checking on Yelp to see what time they closed (as it was early evening on a weekend), we gave ourselves plenty of time and showed up 50 minutes before close. Now, I myself am understand the service biz and 'get' the anticipation of closing time & the soul-shattering, gut-wrenching death blow it feels like when someone walks in the door 15 minutes before close. I wore that sort of let-down on my face when I was.......well.......16 working in breakfast joints. Those days are gone, as it should be in ANY service oriented business. Rest assured, this last trip wasn't 15 minutes before close, but FIFTY. That's almost a full hour before closing time. Here's how the conversation went with the dude behind the register: Me: (glancing around seeing most of the chairs up up on tables and dude looking clearly agitated) "Hey....uh....you guys closing? I thought you closed at 6? Dude: (no eye contact and looking like someone had just ruined his life) ".....nope.....we close the kitchen at 5:30pm" Well, there ya go. Yelp showed 6pm close. Apparently, they haven't updated their Yelp profile. Or whatever. I'll simply offer an out, Me: (starting to face towards the door)"...we were going to just grab a couple of things....we can go though" Dude: (sighs slightly)" what are you having" Me: "just two quesadillas & a gordita" Dude: (as he turns to look at kitchen)"...yeeeeahhh....that's not going to be possible,,,,,,we turn our fryer off at 430pm" Hmmm...okay, so this business has "THREE closing times" to be aware of. Fryer, kitchen and establishment. Note taken. Dude: "you can do the gordita, though" Me; "Okay, we'll take 2 then. Throw a corn taco in their, too" Dude: (mildly showing annoyance) "okay....now, are you guys going to be taking this to-go I'm assuming?" (sigh) Me: (knowing clearly, we're not welcome to sit down and scarf a couple tacos in a place that is suppose to be open for 50 more minutes) "Yeah man......we can take it to go" The rest of the transaction is short, curt and peppered with the guy sort of doing closing duties around the place. We felt like we'd been punched in the gut after writing our last review of praises and really just wanting this place to be our go-to place. It was CLEAR we were not welcome in there within an hour of closing, and gone was the warm & genuine hospitality we received from the woman (Dora?) behind the counter on our first visit. (quick note: this kind of passive-aggressive, inhospitable attitude seems to be prevalent in the Walla Walla restaurant community. Despicable to me, as it hearkens back to my days working in crappy restaurants with no level of service. It's a shame, really, but more indicative of a small town restaurant scene lacking in culture and standards.) Anyway, the icing on the cake was the.....shall I say, the "aftermath". When we got home, the taco I had was clearly fuller than expected based on our first visit (maybe indicating they had cleared the rest of the night's beef onto me for easy close?), and VERY lukewarm. My appetite got the better of me, though. When I told this story to a local colleague they proclaimed...."ooooo...you got the 'end-of-the-night taco'! No bueno!" Uck....let's just say, it ALL wasn't worth it. In a big way. The next three nights were PURE misery. If you'd like to know more, you can message me personally, as I hate to make 'proclamations' of a certain magnitude. Long story, I know. But I thought it was worth notating to any potential visitors that have been directed to a place with generally a good reputation and great reviews (although, after talking to more people in the area, it seems the consensus is that the second location has also created a slip in the old standards.) I wish this place the best, but this visit was certainly one of the bigger disappointments in the food scene here. The 'outcome' of the visit will certainly caution me to consider any more (even though Anthony Bourdain would also say the risk is always worth it.) Bummer to say the least....dropped two stars. read more

This is good, simple Mexican food. I love the handmade tortillas. They have a good menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I am going for the tamales on the next trip. They have a grocery attached to the deli. You can get all, well most, of your Latin market needs. The ladies behind the counter were nice. A hidden gem - authentic Mexican food inside a minimart. Dora serves up fresh ingredient burritos. Tamales are also great and cheap. You buy them by the dozen. It would be a 5 star except it's not as fast as you want, which leaves you to peruse the eclectic selection of food in the minimart. Great find! read more

Had high hopes for this place as a displaced Mexican in Washington. Charged me for a quesadilla and gave me a chulpa - said I should have ordered the deluxe had I wanted a "quesadilla". Barbacoa was very dry. Chips and salsa took 15 min for some reason. Would not go back. read more

This is fine Mexican food in Walla Walla. The prices are insane though for what you get. I'm a socal native so used to quality Mexican grub for $2-5 a item.
