My wife and I had dinner here about a week ago. We were visiting Walla Walla from Portland, Oregon. The Public House 124 was recommended to us by some locals. It had a nice laid-back feel to it. Our server was very friendly and responsive, and the food was tasty. The next day, I realized I had likely left my credit card there. I called them to inquire about it and they confirmed that I had indeed left the card there. As we were already on route back to Portland I asked if I could pay them to mail the card back to my Portland address. They were happy to mail it to my address at no charge. They said that it wasn't the first time people from out of town had left their credit cards there and they are always more than happy to mail it back to their customers free of charge. The card arrived in the mail a few days later. We appreciate our experience at this establishment, not just because of the good food, but also for going out of their way for their customers. read more

Stopped in here one Saturday afternoon while riding our bikes around town. We didn't have the kiddos so we could shred the gnar, which we attempted to do but at our age and stage in the game, shredding the gnar usually consists mostly of riding down a few stairs, maybe pop over a curb or two, and fall off from time to time. Anyway, I digress. We sat at the bar. The ambience was nice and mellow. We were served by the bartender who was friendly and informative. As we weren't there for a whole meal, we settled on some chicken wings. Turned out to probably be the best chicken wings we've had all year through early November. No complaints there. In fact, no real complaints at all and so I give this place five stars. It should be noted that we ordered two beers, two glasses of wine, and some wings so it's not like we experienced the whole freaking menu. After a long day on the road we stopped here for a drink and some dinner and wow was I surprised at what we found! We got there before the crowd rush and the staff was awesome and very attentive to stop by right when we needed something. Decent beer selection and the truffle fries are out of this world! BUT the burger was off the chart. The meat was cooked perfectly and juicy with the egg on top and was seasoned better than I expected. Def wasn't a lean meat which made this burger even better and the pickled onions were a perfect and well thought out plan for this burger. Love this a place a lot. I have been here a dozen or so times and been happy every single time. The drinks are solid and the food is even better. Pro-Tip - they let you switch out the sides on the mains, so look through the sides of the meals you are NOT choosing and see if u want one of the other sides more. Burger came highly recommended so this was my second stop in Walla walla once I figured out how to navigate all the closed streets. Parking was ample on a Thursday, plenty of seats to choose from inside and out and service was friendly tho a little slow. Food wise, burger was ok - But not worth $18 imo - and the truffle fries were ample but supppeeerrr salty. I couldn't taste the truffle behind all the salt. We were out into the evening on our last trip to Walla Walla. Mainly to visit a cidery and some breweries. We already had a very satisfying lunch but we wanted to have a bit of supper before retiring for the night back at our hotel so we came to this public house. Restaurants in downtown Walla Walla must be awful because I ate dinner here after seeing the glowing online reviews. Boy, you guys are off with this place. The food wasn't even barely passable, it was nasty. A pub should have a decent burger, so we each ordered it. I'm not sure what we got because calling this a burger is a crime against foodie humanity. It was more like an disgustingly overseasoned meatball that was flattened into a patty. The seasoning was overpowering, and reminded me a potent blend of Middle Eastern and Italian spices. The consistency was that of a meatball, to the point where I am wondering if the beef was blended with a cheaper filler like pork or something else. The flavor was so bad that my breath still reeks hours later! The bacon on top was poor quality and limp, and the cheese was just okay. If you have the nerve to serve a crappy cheeseburger like this at a pub-style restaurant, then don't pretend to be upscale and hip. The burger was $18 and since I asked for mine without a bun, I also wasn't given a side. Lame. They had fries or salad as a side choice, but I was still charged $18 and got nothing else on my plate. The burger with the bun was bad too. The ciabatta was stale and had a greasy taste where it was buttered and laid on the grill. Scratch that, it probably wasn't butter but was some old, cheap canola oil brushed on it. GROSS. We did order an appetizer of fries, which were cold and had cheese shredded on top (did nothing to help them). The portion size was ridiculously tiny for $10. To top it off, they weren't that busy and the service was abysmal. We had to sit around forever to get our check and our server barely returned to see if we needed anything. Half the meal we had no water in our glasses. I rarely have a reaction this strongly to a meal, but after spending $75 (with tip), I have a figurative and literal bad taste in my mouth. When I first walked in, the place was busy and the ambiance was nice. I was looking forward to the experience. I did not order a drink, but had an opportunity to taste two different drinks that were delicious. I was hungry so I decided to try different items on the menu. The truffle fries were delicious. Adding the cheese was a great decision. It was layered in between, and not simply on top. The garlic aïoli was delicious too. If you are sharing at the table I highly recommend asking for an extra, because the amount that was served was not enough. I also ordered the vegetarian flatbread. It was bland. The dough needed help. You could completely taste the white bleached flour. It was strong and overpowered the pesto. I suggested to the manager, when he made a visit to our table without our asking, for it have rosemary and crushed rock salt in the bough. The sweet pesto was not enough to make it exquisite. You could not taste the tomato sauce either. Wasn't sure what it was until I looked at the menu again. I wouldn't recommend ordering the flatbread unless changes were made to enhance the quality. Was not something to rave about. The last item I ordered was the macaroni. The menu lists only 2 ingredients. What isn't listed is how the toasted breadcrumbs are seasoned, toasted garlic, and rosemary. The black truffle was on point. But, you could tell flour was used as a thickener. I was thinking, where was the four cheeses. Was cream used? It was definitely better then the flatbread by far! We were discussing the individual entrees so much, maybe our waitress overheard it, because the manger came over and asked about how we liked everything. I was honest and he liked my suggestions. Another interesting part of our conversation was how our waitress wasn't as friendly nor connected with our table. That is part of an experience that makes people want to come back too. Last, the cost of my meal. The 3 items I ordered was more expensive and not as impressive. I didn't even order alcoholic beverage. Super tasty and oh so hearty pub food! The truffle fries are made with skin-on potatoes fried to moderate crispness. I had the chicken sandwich with bacon but swapped out the chewy bagel for ciabatta and it was perfect. Great flavor! My husband had the burger and said it was excellent. It was big! We saw salads and flatbreads being served at socially distant tables and the food looked good. Lots of happy customers. They have a nice outdoor patio too. My husband and I ate at Public House 124 on 9/19/23 on the recommendation of our hotel. I ordered the schnitzel which was one of the specials for the night. My husband had the French onion soup. The schnitzel was the worst I've ever eaten. The meat was tough and burnt. Even with a steak knife, I had to saw at the meat and my plate kept twirling around. The burnt meat was covered up by the gravy. The spaetzle was good. In all fairness, the server did ask if there was anything he could do for me to which I replied "no". I don't normally complain about food and have never sent anything back. In hindsight, I should have asked for my meal to be comped. He did comp my glass of wine. The schnitzel was $29 and the wine was $12. The soup was $15. I do NOT recommend eating at Public House 124. read more

Go to Marcy's instead, the burger is much better over there and will save you some money. If you order a side of fries it's a pretty large portion you can share.
