Walking into this restaurant, it gave a very homey and welcoming feeling. We ended up ordering two burritos to go - not only was the meat fresh and made to order, but they were humongous. Absolutely terrible service! We asked for 2 burritos with beans, rice, and cheese but they gave them to us with only beans and cheese and when we told her that they got the order wrong, instead of just switching the burrito for the ones we asked for they proceed to say that we didn't say that and gave us plates of rice that they then CHARGED US again even though we had originally had asked for it. This place was recommended by the place we were staying at in Lemon Cove. We have the chile verde and barbacoa tacos. The tacos were very good, but the chile verde was outstanding! Dora's was good today and the last time I visited 30 years ago. The restaurant is narrow with about 8-10 tables inside, very casual. I think there's also a covered indoor patio to the side, it was too cold to consider it. As you walk in, there's a counter where you the waitress/hostess greets you and you can place to go order. I stopped in with two friends this morning 12/15/19 around 10:30 for a late breakfast. I had to order the menudo and I was not disappointed. Menudo was one size for $6.99, the bowl wasn't huge but big enough for me to get full. When I ordered I was asked if I wanted the pig feet in my bowl. That's authentic and, to me, means the menudo is going to be flavorful - because bones - and it was, the broth was a great flavor. I was brought small Mexican limes, dried Mexican oregano, small diced white onion, and a very spicy salsa as accompaniments along with handmade flour tortillas. Such a yummy breakfast like I would have at my nana's house. One friend ordered the taco salad in a fresh handmade flour shell. The beans and sour cream and salsa made such a good "dressing" for the salad. My other friend ordered the chile relleno combo plate with just beans, no rice. There was also a little side salad on the plate. Judi said they were not the best chile relleno she's had but not bad. To drink we ordered coffee and water. I didn't care for the coffee; the water tasted off. I still drank it because I needed that last cup of coffee for the morning. Food came out fairly quickly considering the taco shell and chile relleno were fresh fried. During the 45 or so that we were there, they had at least 4 to go orders. One man came in with a pot to be filled with menudo. At that point, I knew I'd made a good choice haha Would definitely recommend Dora's and look forward to the next time I'm in town. read more

We were in Lemon Cove for the night and found Dora's in Woodlake so we wanted to give it a try. Nice little place, the patio at night is cute with cafe lights. Our friendly server Evelyn took our order and quickly brought us some chips and delicious salsa that she made. Great job Evelyn! My hubby ordered the caldo de res which looked phenomenal and he was super happy with. I ordered the red cheese enchiladas and they were super tasty! Once in a while I stop in Woodlake, drawn here by the fantastic food served up at Dora's hole in the wall Mexican cafe. Believe me, it's worth the stop! This might be the best Menudo on the planet. Don't take my word for it. Stop by and try it, though only on the weekends. This is a weekend special and it's worth the wait. It's full of tasty pig parts that you don't want to name but you do want to eat. For those high falootin' type palates who think that pork belly is a new thing, know that Dora's has been including this now hoity toity taste in their menudo for ages. The chips here are served up warm and with a cool, green salsa that is full of flavor and finishes off with a bit of heat. This is the kind of salsa that is so good you end up eating it with a spoon. Seriously. A few people at our table did just that. Gauche but who cares? This time, I ordered the pork ribs in tomatillo sauce. The ribs were mostly boneless and oh so tender. However, the star of this dish is the sauce. Again, all of us around the table were pulling out our spoons and shovelling this into our mouths. No sauce made it back to the kitchen from my plate. Mr. Handsome ate the steak picado and he was willing to share a few bites. Yum. That might be what I order next time. Our little food critic in training ordered the chicken mole. She's a bit of a mole addict and wasn't able to resist. I also noticed that, after her first bite, she didn't really want to share. Dora is a local songbird. She has records in the juke box here and pictures all over the wall of her performing or standing with someone famous. It's a treat if you get to hear one of her songs. Now, as I write this and begin to contemplate lunch, I realize that I can't eat Mexican food for a week or so. I've been spoiled once again by Dora's. read more

As good as it gets.....usually.... Great authentic Mexican food, and as cheap as you'll find anywhere north of TJ. I especially reccomend the tortas(wich are not as authentic, but rather uniquely awesome!!). I went there today with my boyfriend. Its my second time there and I don't like it. I ordered the torta and that was a mistake. It was overpriced for what I would describe as a hotdog without the actual hotdog. I could only take two bites of it before I said I wasn't really hungry. The meat was over cooked and mostly fat. Im not commenting on the food but the service. Horrible. I placed a telephone order went to pick it up about 25 min later, got there and they tell me my order hadn't even been started. So I asked how long the wait would be and the waitress couldn't even tell me just that they were only gonna start it. So I left annoyed but was gonna come back. I got back another 20 min later and now they tell me that they didn't start the order. I asked them why they didn't call me and the waitress shrugged her shoulders. Horrible service. I don't mind waiting for my food but be upfront about how long the wait is going to be. Sorry but they lost a long time customer. read more

We have given Dora's 3 shots at a decent meal. All 3 times were horrible! Our last trip I ordered 2 cheese enchiladas. The sauce looked & smelled burnt. I took a few bites before saying anything to give them the benefit of the doubt & it was all I could do to swallow! I pointed it out to the waitress, unfortunately she understood very little English. I took my plate up to the window hoping the other lady there would understand English a little better. She argued with me over if the sauce was burnt or not (it was obviously burnt - the part of the sauce on the plate was almost black & it was a red sauce). Then she became very hateful & told me that's the way they serve their enchiladas & have never had a complaint. She asked if I wanted something else & wasn't nice about it. I told her no because my husband had just about finished his meal & I had lost my appetite. She said 'fine, I'll take it off your bill'. My husband's meal was also much to be desired but he ate it anyways just to not waste anymore money. Cleanliness is a whole other issue! The place needs to be closed down & sanitized from floor to ceiling!! Want a better meal in Woodlake, then make a stop at El Charro. Much better food & a very friendly staff!
