The new and updated Alejandra's is open since the tragic fire and it's beautiful inside! The food is still the same, with some new menu items and speciality margaritas. My favorite thing to order is their beans and rice with their famous chips and salsa! Some things to keep in mind: -Patio is now more enclosed and not pet friendly (service animals only). -Parking is free but extremely busy during lunch or evenings on the weekdays! You might have to make a few laps on main or try a free all day parking. -They don't take reservations, but they have a room to rent for bigger parties. They are definitely less busy since opening so there isn't such a long wait time and most of the staff is super friendly and nice! Happy to see a classic staple back on Main Street. read more

I know Alejandra's sadly burned down a few years ago, so I never had the chance to experience it before the fire. This was my first visit to the rebuilt location. Overall, I wouldn't say the food is bad--it just didn't have the bold flavors I typically look for in Mexican food. If you're someone who's sensitive to spice or doesn't enjoy the smoky, rich flavors found in many traditional Mexican dishes, this may actually be a great fit for you. My biggest concern was that the prices didn't quite match the overall quality. The service, however, was excellent. Maribel took great care of us and was friendly, attentive, and made the experience enjoyable. I ordered the Tostada Compuesta with grilled chicken. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the guacamole was fresh and good, though fairly standard. The highlight of the dish was definitely the homemade fried tortilla shell. It was perfectly crispy, not greasy at all, and held together well, but I wished it had a little more seasoning. My son ordered a regular ground beef burrito, and we added cheese and rice (he likes to keep things simple). He enjoyed it, although he thought it had a little too much rice. Personally, I didn't mind since we had paid extra to add it. My husband ordered the Two-Item Combo with shredded beef. The tacos were on the smaller side and somewhere between soft and crispy. The rice and beans were decent, but neither really stood out. The complimentary chips and salsa were also just okay. The salsa was a bit runny and could have used more spice and flavor. The standout of the entire meal was the El Gran Patrón cocktail. Made with Patrón Añejo, Patrón Citrónge, and served with a side shot of Grand Marnier, it was absolutely delicious and easily my favorite part of the experience. Our total came to about $84 for the three of us, which felt a little expensive for what we received. The night before, I had spent just over $60 feeding five people at another restaurant and even had leftovers. I love great Mexican food but sometimes restaurants miss the mark with certain dishes. This was the case at Alejandra's. Service was great and the presentation of the dishes was nice but the taste of the food was not that good. Here's what we ordered: 1. Three item combination plate, but I didn't want the tamale and wanted to substitute a chile relleno (of course there was an up-charge for the substitution). Crispy taco: not crispy, I think the shells are fried in the morning and kinda stale by the time they are served. Taco taste was very basic. Enchilada was horrible! And do not recommend. The sauce was very thick and all I could taste were the chilies used to make it. The sauce needs to be pan fried in oil and tasted for seasoning. This would be the time to add ground cumin, black pepper, etc. my sister tasted and also said it wasn't good. The chile relleno was pretty good and besides fajitas, this will be what I order if I come back here again. Rice and beans were pretty standard. 2. My sister had the chile relleno combo and she said it was good. 3. Blended Strawberry Margarita: sister said it was good. 4. Hibiscus Lime (nonalcoholic) beverage. This was really good and not overly sweet. 5. (Free) chips and salsa: salsa was a bit watery but ok, no spice. The restaurant is very spacious. A longtime fan before the devastating fire. Since the long awaited reopening, we have been to the restaurant twice. The first time was not a good experience across the board except for the pitcher of margaritas. Food and service was nothing like it used to be. Giving them a couple more weeks to get their act together. Unfortunately, that didn't make any difference. The chips were not up to the standards of other restaurants in Visalia and no where close to what they used to be. The salsa was good! The chile relleno were a grease ball, the enchiladas were dry and lacked flavor. The rice and beans were OK! ​ I only write this review in hope that they are able to pull it together. My husband and I came here last week on a Friday night. I was excited to come here because I haven't been since they reopened. It was not very busy and we were seated right away. The service was attentive and the servers had fun personalities. I had a virgin mango margarita. It was pretty syrupy in taste, which is to be expected without the alcohol to balance it, but it also wasn't very cold, which was odd since it was blended. To eat we each had enchilada combo plates with rice and beans. They were good, pretty standard Mexican combo plates. For dessert we had the churros. They were delicious!! The churros were perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside and came with a delicious dipping sauce. There were about 4 churros but also a lot of little fried churro pieces, which I also thought were so delicious and were like dessert chips! Definitely glad to see Alejandra's back! read more

While taking care of some business matters in Downtown Visalia, I was headed towards another establishment for some lunch when I walked passed Alejandra's and recalled that they had just reopened following a devastating fire several years ago. I was happy to see them back open and changed plans so that I could support their reopening. The service was outstanding and their outdoor patio section was the perfect setting on this beautiful sunny day following almost a full week of rain. Chips and salsa were brought to the table. The chips were fine, but the salsa reminded me of that bottled stuff made in "New York City". I ordered the Carne Asada Nachos. I wish I could say that they were amazing, but the food was mediocre at best. Very little carne asada and not what I would expect for an almost $20 item. Today we decided to try Alejandra's Mexican Restaurant. The place has been rebuilt and is basically brand new, and I have to say the decor and overall look of the restaurant are beautiful. The redesign fits what this town needs, and I truly hope the business succeeds and remains part of the community for years to come. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the atmosphere. We ordered the steak piccata, and there was far more sauce and vegetables than there was steak. The dish was very bland and lacked seasoning. We ended up having to doctor it up ourselves and pull most of the meat out of the sauce just to make it taste better. We also ordered a cheese enchilada, which was just okay--not the best I've had. The carne asada tacos were decent, but again, there was very little flavor. Everything seemed to be missing the seasoning and spices you'd normally expect. The Bloody Marys were probably the biggest disappointment. They were small, had a strange aftertaste, and even after asking for them spicy, they had almost no kick. I had to add pepper, salt, lime, and hot sauce just to make them taste decent. The guacamole also tasted as if it had been cut or stretched with something to make it go further, which took away from the fresh flavor you normally expect. The shrimp ceviche was probably one of the better items we had--it was decent--but even that could have used more seasoning. One thing that stood out is how easy it was to walk in and sit down because it wasn't very busy. Having eaten at many Mexican restaurants in town, this one had the least amount of flavor and seasoning in the food. It makes you wonder why people keep coming back if they have to adjust the food themselves. Another downside is that they charge an extra fee when paying with a card. For a restaurant that isn't delivering top-notch food, those kinds of extra fees feel unnecessary and a bit nickel-and-dime. I truly wish this place the best because the building and atmosphere are great for the community. But as of now, the kitchen needs improvement--more seasoning, more flavor, and more attention to the food. Right now, the experience just doesn't match the potential of the space. read more

My grandpa got the cocido de rez and the soups color looked odd and he said it had no flavor. The rice was very bland. He only ate 2 carrots, the potatoes. Alejandra's Mexican Restaurant has really good, authentic flavors. The mole was rich and flavorful without being sweet, which I appreciated, and the chicken dish was good overall -- though I wish the chicken had been shredded instead of in larger pieces. The Veracruz-style dish was interesting and unique, with olives and pineapple -- not something you see often, but definitely worth trying. Everything tasted fresh and well-seasoned. Only downside: the outside chairs were pretty uncomfortable, which made sitting out there less enjoyable. Welcome back Alejandra's! Food and service are just as great as before. Tostada Compuesta was amazing with some of their salsa drizzled on top. Plenty of food to take home as leftovers. The so called chicken didn't taste like chicken at all as a matter of fact it was so dry it looked and tasted like shredded beef. Anyone who makes mole almost know you do t use boneless chicken breasts. Definitely won't be coming back over here. My husband didn't want to go have dinner here because of their very poor rating reviews from years ago but I convinced him. I told my husband those old reviews were from years ago and since they just barely had their grand opening last Saturday November 22, 2025 they probably have a new chef. Boy were we so wrong. The food is terrible and the presentation was even worse. Just take a look at my combo fajita which I asked please no chicken but was given chicken. The bell peppers were super soft and soggy and so were the onions. The fajitas was drenched in so much oil, it was pretty bad. And the rice was old and hard. Customer service could be a lot better. A friend and I went to Alejandra's today, first time for me. I'd heard good things about it so I was expecting good food but it was not. The service was good but I was very disappointed with the food. I ordered 2 cheese enchiladas, one green one red sauce and a pork tamale. They were all awful, especially the sauce. The red sauce looked and tasted like mole sauce which I don't like and didn't order. No flavoring in the enchiladas, tamale or anything except the salsa and guacamole. It came with beans and rice which were not great either. I loved the chips and salsa. I wanted to try the guacamole but had to pay $7.95 for a very small cup of it which was a really outrageous price for so little. The guacamole was good though. It's been a minute since I've been back to Visalia and oh my God I wish I could give this place a positive review but their food absolutely had no taste whatsoever from my salmon tacos, my sister's Barbacoa even the beans not sure if the cook has taste issues or what .I've tasted salmon that has a unique sauce, lemon or anything other than just the texture look good but no taste whatsoever. The food was an 8 out 10. Ordered a chicken enchilada with green sauce and got red sauce. Ordered two tall beers and one came back small but was charged for two talls. The salsa is mostly onion and liquid, (but delicious). Ordered rice in the burrito got no rice - AND charged for it. Service was not bad but could've been better. The bartender Albert. maybe he wasn't an actual bartender because he kept making references to what a horrible server he is, "I hope I get your order right I'm a terrible server." This visit was on Tuesday 1/20/2026 at 11:30am for a retirement celebration lunch put together by my mom's coworkers. We had reservations (or so we thought) when our party checked in the hosts was not aware of our group and reservation. We were a party of about 20-25. They were able to accommodate us and sat us in 4 different groups close together. We had 1 server for the entire group. When it came time to order at my table, our server asked what we were celebrating. I let her know it's my mother's retirement lunch. She seemed new-ish or not very familiar with the menu as she was unable to answer some questions our party had about the menu. We've been coming as a family for many many years before the reopening. So I've gotten to know some of the familiar faces of the servers. She did not look like one of the servers we've had in the past. The food was starting to come out and our table was second to last of our group that the order was taken from. But when she only put a couple plates down at our table and moved on to the next we thought she was just placing them out of order but would come back to ours with their food including the guest of honor who hadn't received her food. She comes back with one plate at a time, each time stating she will be right back with the next persons food but each time we had to tell her who still was waiting on their food. So it seemed as though their orders were not sent to the kitchen or she was overwhelmed or both. My mom's food finally came out and she was the last to be served. While everyone else had been long done with their lunch. I was extremely disappointed at the lack of consideration our server had given. We were there to celebrate my mom and she could not truly enjoy her lunch with coworkers and friends because she was watching us all eat and our server continued to go back and forth never checking in with us or offering my mom anything for the inconvenience. As a server for over 15 years I could never have a party especially a party where my guest of honor is served last but not only last, after everyone else has already finished their meals. This was completely unacceptable. Because we were with my mom's company I did not speak out. I did not want to make a scene but this was truly disappointing and not at all what we're used to when coming to Alejandra's. So we recently moved to the central Valley, and many of our friends had mentioned this restaurant had good food but had burned down, and was now restored. So when some friends invited us to go try it out, we were excited to see what all the buzz was about. It took a bit to get served as we were a large group. The chips and salsa were decent, but the food was lackluster. I ordered a cocido which is a beef stew. The broth is what really makes a soup delicious. The broth was lacking flavor, salt, and although the meat was tender, it also lacked flavor. I was very disappointed. My husband ordered a shrimp cocktail/ campechana which consist of large shrimp and octopus. He received a very small cup and no octopus as the waiter said they ran out so they compensated by adding two extra shrimp. My husband was very disappointed and said that it had no flavor and had very few shrimp and was expensive to boot. The portion size of the rice was scanty as well. This place did not live up to my expectations. And the feeling was mutual amongst the friends that joined us. Something positive I can say is that the decor of the restaurant was really nice, the waiters very attentive and the ambience was good but what really matters most is the food. read more

I enjoyed another meal at Alejandra's last night. This was my fourth visit since their re-opening. I had molé and my husband had a shrimp fajita. The food was delicious and the service was great. Worst service ever!!! Husband and I walked in at 12:15 was told there was a 40 min wait for a table but we could eat at the bar for faster service.....ha! Sat down at the bar and after about 10 min of not being greeted bartender who was not happy to be there at all got us a water and soda. Sat there then for about 15-20 min and waited on chips and salsa that no one brought. Bartender was obviously ignoring us. I had to ask a buser finally if we could please have some chips. Finally bartender comes over and says what can I get you and as I proceed to order he says wait hang on let me get a waiter to take your order That waiter was also not happy he had to come into the bar to take our order. Finally ordered and then sat there for about 45-50 and still no food....we were being so patient because this was there grand opening even though we were told they had been open the last couple weeks. We felt so ignored. No one telling us an update for wait time on food nothing....At one point the whole side of the bar we were sitting on had gotten up and left and the bartender said he was leaving the dirty dishes there so no one would sit down....really?! Wow! Over an hour has gone by at this point and my husband and I decided to just get up and leave. We were excited to try this place out because my husband said he loved it before and always brought customers here. They were not that busy and why wouldn't you staff more than one bartender if he couldn't handle it? He moved like a slug and his face showed he didn't want to be there. I've been here three times since the reopening, and unfortunately each visit has been a disappointment -- mainly due to the service, but the food quality has also gone downhill. The male bartender is consistently rude and appears miserable to be there, and that attitude clearly reflects in the service you receive. Drink wait times are long, food orders have come out incorrect, and overall the staff seems disengaged. On top of that, the food simply isn't as good as it used to be. This place was once a favorite, which makes the decline even more disappointing.
