Pepperoni Slice
Nizel A.

Since I'm stuck inside for the next few days studying, I figured I would order some pizza. Doreen's ended up showing on my list. At first, I was hesitant because it's a local pizzeria shop in an area where the people there might not know what good pizza is. Also, from the other reviews the service is horrendous and I can't wait two plus hours to get a pizza, especially if the order will be wrong. In the end instead of ordering a whole pizza I ordered two slices, a Maxwell Street polish since that's hard to mess up and a chicken parmigiana sandwich. The order got out on time and it had all of my items so I'm happy. Now that I took a deep dive into the items. Pizza: Appearance - The pizza itself looked brilliant online which is one of the reasons why I wanted to order it. In person it looks about like an average slice. The mozzarella cheese is perfectly melted with good browning, the sauce is spread every so lightly in order to give you that perfect combination of cheese and sauce that we've come to love in Chicago. 5/5 Taste - The sauce on the sausage is a sweet sauce. It's a bit too sweet which might turn some people off. Tuning into the pepperoni slice it was clear that the sauce for the sausage was a mishap because the pepperoni slice tasted much better. I'm happy that I opted for it slices instead of a whole pizza since I didn't get burned. Everything works together well her. The pizza has a very robust flavor that makes you not want to stop. This is some of the best pizza I've had in a while. 5/5 Maxwell Street Polish: Appearance - Not quite as appealing as the photos online that have the works, but still a good looking dog nonetheless. There's plenty of sport peppers & onions on the toasted poppy seed bun. 5/5 Taste - If you make a Maxwell Street Polish that doesn't knock people's socks off...then you have serious problems at your restaurant. Luckily Doreen's doesn't have that problem. A perfectly executed polish that is extremely satisfying to devour. 5/5 Chicken parmigiana: Appearance - It comes on a pretzel bun which is a first-time combo for me. Initially you're going to be disappointed at the little amount of cheese and sauce on the top of the sandwich and then you open the bottom and there's more cheese and sauce so you're good. The chicken portions are also gigantic, but for $11 they better be. 5/5 Taste - The chicken itself seem dry although it is definitely quality white meat chicken. This seems to be mostly due to the fact that the piece is so large that the sauce doesn't cover all of it. The parts with sauce are juicy while the sauceless parts are so dry they can cut your mouth. Everything comes together really well although you do wish there was more cheese. 4/5 Overall, Doreen's seems to be one of those gems where they get everything right. Even the French fries are seasoned to perfection. I look forward to having Doreen's in the rotation of my usual pizzeria's especially since other pizzeria's have gone downhill recently (stares blankly at Reggio's.) Does it beat an Albano's or Paisan's? No, but they give an honest effort that would beat a lot of other self-proclaimed "pizzerias" & they would especially beat restaurants that don't focus primarily on pizza. 4.5 out of 5 stars

Baked mosticolli

Come on !!! I just started ordering again since the taco pizza incident. No sauce, Parmesan, silverware, napkins, or bread & butter. Baked mostacolli should be baked. Cold shredded cheese thrown on top. I know you can do better !!!

Out of town truck driver and so happy the local business had a perfect recommendation. Ordered the stuffed pizza with sausage peppers and onions, my first chicago style stuffed pizza and it didn't disappoint. You can tell the pizza has all fresh ingredients, awesome dough and the cheese is real great quality!!! The meatballs, yum!! When I come back to chicago...this is my spot! I have to try some other things on the menu for sure, they know what they are doing!!

Doreens "Philly Cheesesteak"

Wish I could give it a ZERO. What a let down. Looking to keep our business in the neighborhood while getting something different than our norm, instead all we got was regret and let down. A half onion pizza was delivered (with over an hour wait) as half mushroom instead. And the Philly cheese steak sandwich appears to be microwaved meat flopped on soggy bread. Stay far far away. There is definaltey better pizza in town.

Really good food. Very good employees. Been there numerous times and food was always good.

Note that, signs…read moreindicate to only enter this location from the curbside, as the pretty patio-side in the plaza area is not an entry. So, from the curbside entry, there is a waiting room with benches on the left and right side, and a greeting desk ahead in the center. When called, we ascended on the far left and entered the dining area. It was quite busy. We were shown a table and took our seats. We chose a classic deep dish pie and a gluten free pizza - all to share. We also ordered an Italian salad to share. Highly recommend the Italian salad. It is a chopped salad and highly flavorful and fresh. This is the first item delivered to our table. They offer a thin 12 inch GF crust, and we always try GF when available. The menu indicated that several sauces are GF. I can happily report that the pizza was quite enjoyable. The toppings were fresh and generous. The edges were crisp but the rest was soft while also not getting too mushy. The deep dish was the final food arrival at our table. The menu and waitstaff are clear about it taking around 40 minutes for the deep dish to cook. The wait was totally worth it. Also note, the 10 inch may sound small, but it's unlikely that many people would want to eat more than two slices of this at a sitting - the slices are like two inches thick! Because we had already shared salad and GF pizza - we had a lot of leftovers. Totally worth it. Now, the one hitch here - the womens restroom was beyond atrocious. I mean, diapers, pads, paper, and debris piled up and overflowing from every tiny trash bin in every stall - Add to that non- flushed messes and more mess on the fixtures and floors - And an empty paper towel dispenser. Frankly, they need a big trash barrel in there- the volume of diapers alone was too large for the available recepticals. Clearly, many menstruating folks are trying to dispose of used products, and if the teeny tiny stall mounted trash pockets are stuffed with diapers and other used items... Well. Reader, you likely see where the his is going... I cannot even fathom the reason for the rest of the mess. So, restroom hard no. Generally - if you have a business that encounters a large number of stroller folks- expect related mess and account for it. Especially in busy Chicago where strollers are obnoxiously present everywhere - just read the room!

We both shared a 10" deep dish pepperoni pizza because that is part of the Chicago experience. Initial service was fast but it took 45 minutes for the pizza. Getting our check delivered took a long time, too. This pizza was far more expensive than a Baltimore deep dish pizza but I'm assuming the prime location is why this pizza cost so much. Hubby got a soda and the total cost was $39, not including the tip. Pros: tasty deep dish. Cons: expensive and long wait. I think I would find elsewhere to eat if I'm ever back here again.

Cheese doesn't overwhelm the pie and compliments all ingredients with a salty bite Spicy vodka and sausage--so different than the first pie but equally as delicious!
