It's my first time in Ithaca. I've had a long day of travel. Haven't sat down yet or gotten my hotel room yet. Found this place and it looked good as I'm starving. Lou asked me what I wanted and I let him give me recommendations as I always trust people who work at restaurants. Then he gave me my meal on the house as it was my first visit! For the price they charge the food is extremely bland. This is not how Mexican cook. I got a street taco with steak and it seems it just has salt nothing else where traditional Mexican cooking has multiple spices. They give you sauce hoping to cover up the tasteless food. 20 plus dollars is not worth it. The owner Jorge either doesn't know how to cook or he's not training properly at all. If you want a decent street taco that actually has flavor with every bite go see the guy on green st in a little plaza across from gas station and next to diamonds Indian restaurant you won't be disappointed like this restaurant. After watching a performance with my friends, we decided to grab a bite at Dos Amigos. I went for the Lauryn Grill, their steak burrito, which cost about $20. As I walked back to my apartment, the burrito started dripping due to poor packaging. Taking multiple bites, I was disappointed by the complete lack of flavor - it was bland and lifeless. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, I found a strand of hair inside the burrito. (Yikes!) On the plus side, the burrito was big, but size doesn't matter much when the taste is non-existent and hygiene is questionable. Was this experience worth it? Not really, especially for the price. Slick Chick (chicken) burrito was better than the first time I had it. Pretty expensive for an average burrito. You definitely need to add sauce otherwise the meat is dry. Dos Amigos is a great addition to the Collegetown rotation! Dropped by on a bustling Saturday night and left with tacos, a burrito, and margaritas within about 10 minutes. The tacos were actually really fresh and authentic, although a bit greasy. The rice and beans were not awesome unfortunately, the beans were not seasoned nor cooked for long it seems, and the rice was somewhat gritty. The burrito however looked great and was a generous size. Margaritas did not disappoint! The only other thing that would make Dos Amigos even better is if meals came with some free chips but otherwise really whited and will definitely return! read more

Dos estrellas for Dos Amigos. I've never tried the food truck. I've walked past the store a million times, but it's never been open. Today they were finally open for lunch. Atmosphere: It's a pretty unimpressive location/design. The music was too loud, but it's Collegetown and I'm old, so maybe that's just a me problem. Service: I was served promptly by a very polite worker. No complaints here. Food: I had a steak burrito. On the positive side, it was really, really big, it had a lovely toasted tortilla, and it was nicely presented. Everything stayed put as I ate it, unlike at Chipotle where the contents are falling out. On the negative side, it just didn't taste all that great. Everything was a bit dry (I had to ask for an extra side of sour cream) and the use of fried potatoes gave it a really greasy, heavy feel (and I like greasy and heavy). The hot salsa had a nice kick, but there wasn't enough of it. Mostly, the whole thing just lacked any sense of freshness, even though they cooked the steak from raw to order and it supposedly contained cilantro (which I couldn't taste at all). I have definitely had worse burritos, but I've had a lot that are better. I'd actually say I prefer Chipotle over this. And I prefer Zocalo by a mile to both of those options. Value: The burrito itself was probably three stars. The value kicks this down to 2. With a modest tip, this came to over $18 with no drink included. It's just way, way too expensive. It's way more expensive than Zocalo, where the burritos are much better and come with a side of chips and salsa. I'm not adverse to paying a lot for a burrito, but it has to be one of the better burritos I've ever had. This was not. One small complaint/suggestion: A selection of hot sauces would be really nice. Ordered some tacos and quesadillas from dos amigos yesterday night and so glad we did. The food was delicious - I got the Cardi B.eans (bean quesadilla) and my husband got the Notorious P.I.G. (Pork taco) and Lauryn Grill (steak burrito). The names are reason enough to order from here, but on top of that everything was wonderfully seasoned and cooked. The salsas have unique, subtle flavors that explode as you eat. Some do the best Mexican food I've had in New York State. We also arrived a few minutes after closing because our Uber was delayed and the person working was so accommodating, waiting for us to get there. The kindness of the staff along with the tastiness of the food really makes this place stand out in my opinion. read more

Hello, I enjoyed the burrito, and the salsa, but the side order situation is absurd and you'll definitely be sad if you order a side of rice. What I really wanted was a side of rice and beans, but it's $5.29 for each, and it just didn't feel possible to spend 10 dollars on a side of rice and beans. I ended up choosing the rice, and it turned out to be a tiny portion of cold, inedibly undercooked and bland rice grains. Quite amazing actually. Again, I thought the burrito was good, but my experience with the rice left me with an overridingly unpleasant feeling about the whole thing. I find it hilarious that students and ithaca natives alike seem to love Dos Amigos. Its almost as if they've never had a decent authentic taco in their lives. The proteins at Dos Amigos are constantly dry, and they severely lack in the amount and type of salsas and chiles they use for their tacos. The tortillas are some of the worst tortillas I've ever had. They lack much flavor and I don't think they are even hand made. I'm sure people uneducated with Mexican and even quality Mexican-American food will continue to patron Dos Amigos, but for those that have any understanding of a decent taco or burrito, this is place will definitely underdeliver. read more

Having lived on the East coast for years I've been desperately searching for a Mexican restaurant that could hold its own against the taco shops I grew up with in San Diego. To begin, the steak was marinated to perfection, juicy and tender. I ordered the steak burrito without onions and beans with the mild salsa. Wow. 10/10. This place now has a brick and mortar location in Collegetown. Their burritos are very comparable to Californian style burritos. My favorite is their chicken tinga burrito. I went there recently, and it's the best burrito I have had since I left California. They have limited indoor seating and they now serve margaritas! I got their prickly pear margarita and it was delicious. It had a spicy kick to it. It wasn't that sweet, which I find most magaritas. I would definitely recommend! read more

I was reasonably impressed with Dos Amigos. The steak in particular was delicious. However, they stuff their burritos full of "homefries" and while I don't mind potatoes in a burrito, these were undercooked and really ruined the experience. Dos amigos used to be my favorite food in ithaca back when it was still a food truck. It was the place to go after a night out to get great food. I was really happy to see them get a brick and mortar location in Collegetown, however the first thing I noticed was the food quality went down. Additionally, there hours are such that they cannot accomplish their main strength of being good late night food. They are open for like 4 hours a day for dinner, but close at 9. They have lost their identity for being the best late night food and even the best food in ithaca (in my opinion). This review will probably get lost but I hope that if they see this they consider at least returning to their old hours to be a late night eatery. read more

Dos Amigos uses fresh ingredients and offers a unique late night snack! I can only give three stars, though, because their burritos were a bit of a letdown. First, they're small. Each burrito is about the size of a typical potato. The size would be more acceptable if the filling was great but unfortunately not the case--my bean burrito was 25% bean and 75% cheese and nothing else! No medium salsa (requested) to be found! The beans and cheese were tasty, but not what I wanted. Chips and guac were tasty, but the meal (~$13) did not seem worth the wait or the cost :( read more
