It was so delicious. I don't even know how to describe it. Unique and just overall pleasant. I'm genuinely sad I don't have time to visit again before I head home from vacation. This is a must see! They do have dairy free options as well

There are 2 locations, one at Brunswick and Portland. From what i've heard Brunswick is better so we decided to try this location. They don't have designated parking but street parkings are available. We parked on the street parking and walked over. It's located on nice area where its center to many restaurants and shops. Once we entered the building we looked at their menu. They have extensive flavors and also sorbet and low sugar options. They do let you try and i've tried a few. I ended up settling with hazelnut and peanut butter flavor. The gelato has nice texture and flavorful. Not overly sweet either. Service was great and the staff was very attentive. Overall it's a pretty good gelato place. I like the flavors and the texture. Service is excellent. Price is bit pricey but not too bad. Only thing is that it was not necessary special or unique. But still a solid place. Good stop for sweet desert.

When I got in, I saw the flavors listed on the board and tried a few samples served on a metal spoon. Since I was in Maine, I had to try the two blueberry flavors. I immediately fell in love with the Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp Gelato and asked for a small cup with that flavor. The Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp Gelato is comprised of wild blueberries intersected with a sweet and crunchy oat streusel covering and kissed by a scoop of vanilla. It was so yummy! My husband had the Netflix & Chill Gelato which is caramel gelato with brownie bits, peanut butter cups, and kisses. The small dish was $6.35 each and it includes a Maine restaurant tax. The next day, during the Portland: Old Port Culinary Walking Tour on Sunday, June 14, 2026, our last stop was The Gelato Fiasco. Funny enough, I was just here the night before. At The Gelato Fiasco, our group of 13 were able to each choose two flavors. Since I already had the Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp Gelato last night, I wanted to try some other flavors. This time I got the Ripe Mango and Thai Iced Tea. WOW! The Ripe Mango and Thai Iced Tea really tasted like how you would expect it to taste, all the flavors were there, but imagine it in a denser, silkier texture and a more intense flavor. I highly recommend checking out The Gelato Fiasco, you will not regret the smooth and creamy texture of the gelato. There are plenty of seating inside and outside.

You scream. I…read morescream. We all scream... for site made ice cream on a working Maine dairy farm ! This is a special place... a farm on a hill with their own farm shop featuring glass-bottled milk, sandwiches, and most importantly... Ice Cream ! Starting mid-April or so, they open up "The Barnyard" which is a nice little petting zoo for the kids... and occasionally a "Goat Yoga" spot for adults... which is just so uniquely crazy it almost makes me wish I did yoga. Not into yoga...? I get you. Lucky for us, they also have a hardware store / lumber yard, so you could feasibly come for Mocha Chip and stay for the 4x4 milled posts, and that's not an experience you'll soon get at a national big-box lumber store. Or a Baskin Robbins, for that matter. This place is an experience. The farm is gorgeous, the staff are friendly, the animals are fun, the lumber yard is definitely there, and the product... well that's where it's at... it's excellent. There are a few working dairy farms like this one dotted around the state, and I encourage you to check out each and every one. Smiling Hill Farm is that extra special sort of place, where it's only a few miles drive outside of Portland, but it feels worlds away and it's so, so worth the effort to get to. They also have ready-to-go quarts in the freezer, their various dairy offerings, and rotating, seasonal farm shop fare. Support your local farmers! Also... I've found the local barn cats to be super friendly and just a treat to hang with. YMMV

One Sundae was topped with caramel and crunch coat topping. The other Sundae had both the strawberry and the pineapple toppings. WOW! TWO VERY DIFFERENT FLAVOR PROFILES BUT THEY WERE BOTH AMAZING!! My very favorite soft serve flavor is their pistachio but banana is definitely going to be giving some serious competition!! Honestly you can't go wrong with anything you pick - from a simple dish of their ice cream to one of their sundaes. Their waffle cones are really good too. Beware!! Their portions are very generous - a medium is most definitely a large! Dairy Joy accepts cash only but they do have an ATM machine right there. The staff is always very friendly and willing to offer up wonderfully creative suggestions.
