We came to see foreigner and my car over heated and blew my radiator. Well I had to push my car to an open spot in parking and wait for it to cool off. A guy who works there came by and helped push my car to a safe spot, then he called a guy named troll to help me see if I could fix it. He told me he had to work and we should come in and enjoy the show and he'll be back after the show. After the show troll came by and helped put water in the radiator and told me my radiator was blown. We drove the car to a safer location and left it there. The next day we came back and unloaded everything, because I decided to donate the car to cars for kids. I talked to a guy named pig and jonny and they were really helpful! Awesome people down to earth and we have nothing but good things to say about them. Thank you! read more

Decent venue but they make you go through live nation for your tickets and that company is a rip off overcharging you ridiculous amounts for service fees. Parking Included Gate 11 on Ticket, only to try to charge $60.... I purchased tickets to the recent Jimmy Buffet concert which included parking, Gate 11 was actually stated on the face of the ticket. I pulled up to the gate the the "gentleman" said $60...I showed him my ticked which clearly stated Gate 11 Included, he then said, This Lot is Full....I could see 30% was empty....How do they stay in business....this is at the very least misleading. I may never again enter your venue because you abuse your customers this way....good luck going forward.... read more

We arrived around 515pm for a 7pm concert. Found a parking spot right when we pulled into the lot. *parking was included with our ticket* it was a little far to the venue but we are young and didn't mind. We had seats but if you are sitting on the lawn you have to have low chairs, not the regular fold up chairs. We brought some food and tailgated till the concert started. There are a few rows in the back that are not covered. I believe Z on is not covered. Luckily for us it didn't rain. Sound was good. The drinks are sooo expensive. They sell whole bottles of wine and they give it to you in a plastic container. read more

We had an AMAZING time at the Nickelback concert. Parking was close & ample. Numerous vendors inside to make getting a beer quick & painless. I think that if this wasn't open air in Texas, it might be my favorite music venue. It's not that hard to get tickets that are up close and personal, with often nationally and internationally known acts. But for whatever reason, they seem to only book shows I like in August, when Texas heat has two settings; oven-high or broil. I was born and raised in Dallas, but I will never get used to the heat. And those poor internationally known acts! Surely, they regret every minute melting on stage. Otherwise, the settings, video screens, the food and drink gardens on both sides are great. I am taking 3 stars off, one for each wall the place is missing. read more

I'm late to the party but I finally attended an event at Gexa recently and it was quite pleasant. Now, granted, it wasn't the dead heat of summer and I wasn't on a blanket on the lawn. I had seats and even though it was like row UU, it was still pretty awesome. We went for a comedy show and it was simple enough getting in and finding parking. Now getting out is a totally different story. Park far away and leave early if you can. Just my advice. Drinks out there are insane ($15 for a Dos Equis...eek!) but that's the price you pay when you want a nice beer to enjoy while listening to a concert or watching a comedy show. Overall, I had a great time and would go back to another event at Gexa if I had seats. read more

Nice place to have a concert! I have sat in both the chairs and lawn. I prefer sitting in the lawn due to being about to lay out a blank and claim your space. You have to get there for the first opener if you are wanting to get a lawn seat in the middle. No seat from the lawn is bad if you normally look at the screens. Most artists I have seen come out to the lawn to perform a couple of songs. You can rent a lawn chair at the venue but can also bring your own. Security will check your chair and blanket. The bathrooms are decently clean. The only downside is it is an outdoor venue and most concerts I have attended or wanted to attend are during the summer. read more

Parents - Do no send your kids here alone. If they MUST see an artist here, go with them and supervise. They will have access to alcohol and will not be protected by "security" if anything goes wrong. Let me also say that I am 32 years old and have a son. Weed at a concert and/or drinking is expected. I like to have a few beers at a concert myself. Just not by hundreds of underage teenagers. I purchased tickets to see the Zac Brown Band for last night. I have been to the venue several times with no issues a few years ago. Arriving and parking at the facility were no hassle. We purchased a few drinks and settled in on the lawn. That was the last enjoyable minuet of the night. Scores of underage kids (14 and up would be my guess) began filling in the holes on the lawn and up against the back wall of the amphitheater. Still not really an issue at this point, besides the stepped on fingers and toes. I can deal with some excited kids without manners. After the first two opening acts came on is when the real fun started. We went to grab some pizza and witnessed underage girls paying the cashier $20 to buy alcohol. When we questioned the cashier, he said he had seen the girls Id's earlier in the night. YEAH RIGHT! The group of girls and guys sitting behind us were talking about their upcoming high school week with drinks in hand. The 100% clearly underage kids/teens couldn't hold down the alcohol they had been able to buy without being carded. Vomiting ensued. There were KIDS (I witnessed 3) laying in their own vomit on the lawn. I personally went to find security which took over 10 minuets. On my way to find security, I witnessed two couples (teens again) having sex. Making out again, is expected with teens but people were watching and could see ALOT. Gross. Made me glad I didn't have a daughter. Many of the kids were not even able to stand up and were being dragged around by friends. I was also accidentally punched in the back of the head by a male teenager who was also drunk and excited to see his friend who had finally scored some weed. WOW! Upon finding security and telling them about what was going on in the crowd, they just looked and me and said "We have already walked over there, there's nothing going on." I really didn't know what to say at this point. They all three just continued to watch the concert instead of doing their jobs. As I said before, I have a son who I would hope and pray someone would not sell alcohol to but if he made a stupid decision I would hope security or his friends would not allow him to choke on his own vomit. Parenting is fun isn't it! :) If it hasn't already happened someone WILL be hurt worse while being at Genxa. We decided to leave after letting security know what was going on. We even told the police on the way out. They said we'd have to point out who did what and they'd have to be caught in the act. Never going there again. read more

I waited a couple of weeks before writing my review of this venue, hoping I would calm down, but I haven't. This place is TERRIBLE. If I could give it 0 stars I would. I will never go back. First of all, leading up to the event, I couldn't find any information on seat numbering within rows at the venue. For example, am I on an aisle, or mid-row? I could find section and rows, but not numbers within rows. No one answered the phone at the venue, so I couldn't ask. Customer service=non-existent. It took my friend and I an hour and a half to get to the venue from 4.3 miles away in Uptown. Closer to the venue, everyone was in the left lane, since parking lots are on the left. It was barely. moving. At no point did anyone directing traffic assist with instructions or signage. They did not know the answers to any questions. After waiting agonizingly long to get to the lot we wanted, all lots were closed except an overflow lot on the right. All that time, if they had just had a sign out or been instructing people that those left lots were all full, we could've breezed down the right lane to our last resort for parking. This venue is not in a nice neighborhood and the parking lot was not well-lit. I only saw two restroom options, and the lines for the restrooms were so long you would've missed half the show. We did not drink the entire time for fear of having to use the restroom. We needed assistance finding our seats (because the numbering was not available online and we weren't sure which side to go in on) and the worker could hardly be bothered to look up until we tapped him on the arm. He did not have any desire to help us. The vomit smell in our seats was so miserable that everyone around us was talking about it. We never saw it, but the smell was revolting and unavoidable. I feel like no words do justice to how terrible this venue is. The Miranda Lambert concert was AMAZING, and that's the only thing that saved us. I just heard on the news this morning that they are making improvements to things like the sound system for the lawn. I would recommend allocating those funds to more important things like restrooms and competent parking instructions. read more

If you're getting tickets for a show that starts before 8pm and you don't want to be subjected to the sun, you will need to reserve seats in the 100s (100, 101, 102). The seats in the 200s, as well as the lawn get a lot of sunset sun. Why they oriented the pavillion this way makes no sense, but that's how it is. There are a lot of things about Gexa that make me furrow my brow. If you buy a seat (not lawn), don't show up until after - well after - the show start time. Only lawn folks need to be there early to snag a grassy patch. Those with reserved seats can avoid the hullaballo and 6000 person deep line by showing up late. The show I went to was supposed (according to the ticket) to start at 5, so I went early thinking doors would be at 4 (customary for doors to be one hour before a show everywhere, including gexa). Unfortunately for me, and everyone else, the doors were at 5 and the show didn't start until after 7pm. Thus, I had to wait around for 3 hours before anything happened. Arriving early does however afford you the opportunity to park near the gate both for the show line and the exit, which means that once the show is over you can cheerily jaunt to your car and hightail it out of there before the rest of the crowd even finds their cars. As noted by other reviewers, drinks are expensive, as is food, and on top of that there is a LOT of false advertising inside Gexa. Let me give you some ridiculous examples: Meal deals (sandwich/fries/drink for $12) are featured on displays above some of the food/drink dispensaries around the outside of the pavillion. The soda cup shown with the meal is at least 16oz given its height and size relative to the paper tray of food that is closer to the camera. The size handed out is 8-12oz, which is the size of a child size beverage at McDonalds. The margarita stands sell "frozen margaritas" and "pina coladas". $14 each, and they will only serve them in these ridiculous tall guitar shaped plastic glasses. Sure, whatever dude, but if you ask the cashier what kind of alcohol is in their drinks (perhaps a strange but reasonable question), he/she will tell you that they are all wine based. Now, I'm no mixologist, but the basic definition of a margarita is that it is a drink containing tequila, some kind of liqueur, and some kind of fruit juice. Gexa's "frozen margaritas" aren't even margaritas (same for the pina coladas). What's next, no beer beer? Wine-free wine? I guess Gexa would be less horrible to go to when it's not summer, but I hate crowds and paying too much for things. Employees were nice enough though. read more

By far THE WORST venue I've ever been to in the entire world! I went to see the Oddball comedy festival and there were kids there, and when I say kids I don't mean 16/17 year olds I mean actual KIDS! I saw a few that looked 8 and 9 years old, this was a comedy show that was extremely raunchy and vulgar I can't believe they allowed little children to attend, it immediately ruined my mood, I felt weird with a drink in my hand with kids around so I refrained from having more than one. Another mood killer was people smoking and I don't mean cigarettes! This isn't Colorado last I checked, police or security should be watching for this ESPECIALLY if there are minors breathing it in! Sound system is weak. And lastly it is HOT! I know you can't control the weather but there is no relief from the heat! They need to add more fans and or mist to keep the audience cool. read more

This place is awful!! It took us an hour and half to get there, and we were coming from Uptown! Their parking system is terrible. The two gates we were supposed to go to were full and they just told us to keep going. Nobody told us where else we can park. When we finally got in, my friend wanted to use the restroom and at first we only saw one and the line was ridiculously long! We walked round and saw another and it was the same way. Because of this, I was scared to buy something to drink for fear of missing the concert and having to use the bathroom! When we got to our seats, it smelled like vomit. It was awful. The other people around us thought the same thing as well. Even though the concert was good, I'm pretty sure I will never come back here. read more

Gexa is a subpar venue that, unfortunately, is the one and only large outdoor amphitheater in DFW. While Dallas may not sit in the mountains, be surrounded by forests or situated on a coast, the city is still beautiful. All of that is lost at Gexa, which reminds me of a dirty military bunker. Concrete everywhere, dilapidated seats, bathrooms and concession stands... It's everything that makes a state fair completely avoidable. The only show I will attend here is Dave Matthews Band, simply because their live show is meant for a large outdoor amphitheater, and I personally can forget about the surroundings. Then I think about when DMB plays at The Gorge in Washington, or Red Rocks in Colorado, or even The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in the Woodlands, and I weep inside for Dallas. The decent lawn is flanked by a concrete wall that hides the Dallas skyline and any of the city's natural beauty, but hey, at least it hides the cesspool of an area that the pavilion is located in. Gexa is all around a blight on Dallas's character. The city needs to look into building a new pavilion to match the incredible advances in food, culture and the arts over recent years. Unless it's your favorite band in the world and you've never seen them live, I would completely avoid any show at Gexa. read more

Its not the best place to hang out in a hot August summer in Texas, but when the weather is decent, it provides a great venue to listen to some great music. I am happy that they finally got rid of all those ant mounds as it wasn't worth buying tickets to sit out in the lawn and get bit by fire ants. If you need drinks of food, I would hit up the east side where the ticket office is located because they have more selection of food and drinks from outside vendors coming in. read more

My only experience with this venue was at the Radiohead show several months ago. In terms of parking, our experience was good in that we arrived at the venue fairly early and parked close to the front entry for 8 dollars. But I have heard many horror stories from others that I would take into serious account. Standard corporate-music-venue bullshit with overpriced drinks (mainly water: 4 bucks.) Lawn SUCKS completely. And at this particular show, they did not operate the video screens for those of us 'lawn-folks' who could barely see the stage. Since I have to give this P.O.S. one star, I'll attribute that to my experience entering into this venue. It was fairly hassle-free without searches and seizures, emptying of pockets and all other security procedures in general. Other than that, I think most music fans should seriously reconsider buying a concert ticket to this venue unless you are simply a REALLY HUGE fan of an artist performing there. If not, DON'T GO HERE! It is not worth it. read more

Not much has changed here so it desperately needs a serious facelift! I remember when this was Starplex and then Smirnoff and who knows what it was called back in the late Eighties when I saw New Order, Stevie Nicks and Santana. Possibly the worst venue I've been to and I've been to a lot of places. The old Bronco Bowl(RIP) is even better than this place and the new place in Grand Prairie crushes it. Bathrooms are blazing hot and stink beyond belief. Of the two video screens, under the shed, seemingly only one works on a regular basis. Why there aren't video screens for the lawn is baffling. To add screens on the exterior of the over-hang facing the lawn seems simple. Just old and dilapidated. Only reason I went to Kings of Leon was b/c I had a free ticket. My two favorite bands are Widespread Panic and Motley Crue who were both in town recently. I didn't go see either one of them b/c they were playing here and after going tonight, I don't regret my decision. Time to burn this place down and start fresh. read more

I hate this place, unfortunately, it is one of the main venues in Dallas. For some reason a lot of the good shows like to come through here in July and August. Not only is it mostly over 100 degrees in these months, but for those lucky enough to sit in the lawn, it is a boiling stew of hot bodies and blankets and it actually feels like you are being cooked. It is horrible! For those concerts in the cooler months, the weather is bearable, but when you are getting charged $8-$10 per drink (I think $12 for the crappy wine based margaritas) it's unbearable on the wallet. And I haven't been to the VIP Low T Ice House yet (Getting it's name sake from a Low Testosterone medicine). If it's what I think it is, it's basically a bar set up outside the venue that they threw some tarps over and then called it the VIP section, but still no A/C, no cushy chairs, & no view of the show you came to see. It's just a bunch of other suckers that paid be admitted to the VIP section and pay the same price for drinks that the other suckers outside do, but you get a lovely tarp! My choice? Head out of town to go see whatever band you were going to see here. Where oh where did my Bronco Bowl go? :( read more

Because Gexa has no concern for the safety of their patrons, I will no longer be attending any event here. Last night they shut down a concert and released thousands of people into the street because of their fears of tornados. No rain even fell and no tornados were remotely close. People left the venue with full beers and alcoholic beverages to drive home or wander the street. It was the absolute worst handling of an event I have seen in my 23 years of concert attendance. The staff is incredibly rude and obviously unhappy to be employed. read more

Good venue for concerts and shows. There is covered area with assigned seating, and also a large lawn area behind the seats, where u and your group find a spot and post up. Been here multiple times... Glow in the Dark Tour with Kayne, Rihanna, Lupe Fiasco, N.E.R.D, most recently the Oddball Comedy Show with Aziz and Amy Schumer, and other events. Was treated to VIP tickets for Kayne and it was sick to be in the first row and get pictures with the singers when they got off stage. but it's also fun sitting in lawn seating for events like Oddball, where u can spread out a blanket to sit or lay on during the show with your friends..and for cheap tickets. With lawn seats when it's dark, it does get hard to find your friends/spot in the evening, so find specific landmarks... or plan for everyone to wear glowstick necklaces to spot them. either way, the sound quality was good for all events. it does get hot, since it is a outside venue. Parking is a hassle. Remember exactly which entrance you came through since there's different entrances. we've gotten lost a handful of times just wandering the parking lot until we finally realized that maybeee it wasn't that parking lot we parked in. I blame it on the numerous drinks..(: food: typical food for purchase like hot dogs, nachos, and cold hamburgers. also sell beer, wine, and liquor !! cheers!~ bathroom: ladies~ know that there is more than one bathroom. if one has a reallllllyyy long line, the other one on the other end is prob shorter since most of us don't realize there's another restroom. we just see a line and stand in it. read more

It is not terrible. I was imagining it to be awful, crowded, and cramped. While being pretty full, it was not cramped and the bathrooms, even though they had lines, were reasonably clean and well stocked. My issue was the pricing. Okay, okay. Parking is free. But a $17 cocktail? $10 bottles? The struggle is real. I am cheap, and just could not stomach the prices. We waited to eat bc if the drinks were that pricey, I didn't even want to consider the food. They did have a fuzzy's stand, a wine stand, several craft beer stands, a pizza place, and regular concession fare. It is attached to fair park, so think of that kind of scene. So while the choices were optimal for a concert venue, I dont know if I'd make plans to eat there. I was also presently surprised that almost every seat was a good seat. We were pretty far back, I am fairly short, and I could see the entire stage. They also have several large projector screens to assist. I had a tall person in front me, and I had no complaints about being able to see. read more

What a great location to have concerts. I never heard of this venue until the Maze featuring Frankie Beverly concert. I love the huge lawn seating and the different menu options for food and drinks. You can bring your own blanket and sit on the lawn and enjoy the music. I would recommend going here for a concert on a date night or a night out with the ladies. read more

Attended BFD16- couldn't bring in blankets or our small cooler with water. Watched several people have their blankets confiscated during the show. However the groups of people smoking weed were just told to put it away. Of course it came Bk out as soon as the staff walked away- then would be told again. I've seen shows here while it was called Smirnoff, missed the boat while it was under the Superpages.com mantle, and went last night for my first experience in the newly-named Gexa Energy Pavilion. (This place has had more names than Diddy.) I have to say, over the years this place hasn't changed much. It still looks exactly the same as it did the first time I visited eleven or twelve years ago. It's a nice-sized open-air venue with the first sections covered and the second sections and the lawn seat susceptible to the elements as they are basically outdoors. I've sat up close at previous events, but last night was toward the back of the arena for the Arcade Fire concert. I have to say, even from the back I had no complaints. It was a great view of a stellar show and the music was loud as ever. I will also say this... the "security" here is pretty laissez-faire. People openly smoke cigarettes and marijuana in pretty much every section. (This may also depend on what show you're at, but has been a pretty common thread for me at this venue.) Also, I tend to avoid concessions here as they are unreasonably priced... but isn't that the case with most places these days? Another negative about this place... and maybe it isn't their fault, but cell service is absolute shit. Perhaps not a strong signal in the area for smart phones, combined with so many people trying to text and tweet... I don't know but I didn't have access to my phone most of the time I was in there. Maybe they need to build more cell towers in the Fair Park area. This place isn't as bad as some of the other Yelpers make it out to be. (Also, why is everyone complaining about parking? Parking was included in the price of my ticket, and I had a good parking spot close to the stadium and close to the exits. I didn't have to park in anybody's yard and in fact never entered a residential area.) It's actually a pretty decent open-air venue and not worth avoiding if your favorite band is playing there. read more

OK, like everything. There are both good and bad qualities to this venue. Good: Free parking. That's a major plus when you compare it to AAC (though DART there is better) or House of Blues. Also, the reserved seating and the pit section are pretty great during rock or punk shows when you're in your late teens and early 20's. If you're outside of that, stick to the reserved seating only. Also, the lawn section is great if your mindset is that you're just at a party with some great background music. Festivals here are fantastic. Booze is comparable in prices to every other large venue in the area, so not too bad there as well. Bad: The acoustics are the worst you will ever encounter. And if you're sitting on the lawn, good luck seeing anything going on on the stage. If you like a person for their music, get as close as possible without dying in the pit. And make sure you pee before the set. It takes FOREVER to get to the bathroom and back. However, when all is said and done, like most Dallas raised kids the Starplex/Smirnoff/Superpages/Gexa/whatever they want to call it pretty much raised me as a kid. I'll always go to a show or two a year here, even though it's a Live Nation venue. read more

Why does Gexa have such low ratings? Gexa is AWESOME. That lawn?? Come on. You cannot beat that concert experience. I've been to one concert where I parked and there was so much space, plus plenty of direction from attendants. And it was free! Not sure if that's true all the time though because the most recent concert I went to at Gexa, we just walked from the other side of Fair Park, and parked on the street at Exposition. For this last one, despite being a sold out show, my friend and I picked a spot at the back of the lawn and had a good five foot radius of space around us for most of the night. And not because we smelled bad! :P There's just that much room! Of course, for general admission a lot of people want to be closer to the front. If you're like me, you're just there for the experience and you'd rather breathe/not be grinded on in a crowd. The prices are comparable to another arena venue - you're going to be paying $12 for a tall boy of crappy beer, but I don't even mind because of the spacious lawn. I know, I know. . .shut up about the lawn already, but really, that's what makes Gexa is my favorite big music venue. read more

Please don't bother going here. The bathrooms are horrible. I have been many times and it just is not worth it. I love Evanescence and Amy Lee but I will never set foot in this place again. It is so hot in the summer. The security lets the crowd knock you down because people are high on whatever. The sound was awful everytime I went. I had 4th row tickets one time for Korn/Evanescence and when Korn came on people from the back were climbing over the seats and trying to get to the pit, shoving me. The security guy said, what am I supposed to do? Then a big fight broke out in the pit. If this sounds fun, have at it. Me, I love you Amy, but you are playing a pit in August, again. I've been going to Gexa since it was the Coca Cola Starplex in 1994. My latest venture there was for a Def Leopard concert. I sat on the lawn with a group of 10 people. Make sure you bring a blanket or 2. I did notice that there is now an option to rent lawn chairs. I did not catch how much it was to rent them, though. I do know you can't bring in your own chairs. I did see a group try to bring them in on their own and they were not permitted to them bring them in. The drinks of course were on the steep side with $12 for a beer. The sound system is a different story. I was amazed at how good Def Leopard sounded after being 20 years since their prime. That says a lot about the venue, that they sounded great! There are some things you need to know. It's outdoors, it can be hella hot, and the sound systems are decent so you don't need to plunk money down on the close seats because you can hear just as well on the lawn. It's not my favorite venue but it can be cheap.
