I was looking forward to the concert here. We bought tickets, got great seats and planned ahead for everything. Almost. What we didn't plan for is the bullies they hire as "security". I took a camera in and apparently BOTH people we talked to BEFORE going in with it, were "misinformed" of the policy. Everyone around us had cameras, frankly, no different than mine. Many took video and photos throughout the performance. I was pulled aside because my camera "looked professional"... I was yelled at, verbally abused and my husband was physically pushed by "security". We ended up leaving, we missed a lot of the concert because we refused to hand over my camera to them. The good news for many of you is that they allow you to smoke in the venue (despite no smoking signs) and they don't even care "what" you are smoking as there were a group behind us passing around pot. Our money went down the drain tonight. I will never, ever spend money on any event at this venue ever again. It is not terrible. I was imagining it to be awful, crowded, and cramped. While being pretty full, it was not cramped and the bathrooms, even though they had lines, were reasonably clean and well stocked. My issue was the pricing. Okay, okay. Parking is free. But a $17 cocktail? $10 bottles? The struggle is real. I am cheap, and just could not stomach the prices. We waited to eat bc if the drinks were that pricey, I didn't even want to consider the food. They did have a fuzzy's stand, a wine stand, several craft beer stands, a pizza place, and regular concession fare. It is attached to fair park, so think of that kind of scene. So while the choices were optimal for a concert venue, I dont know if I'd make plans to eat there. I was also presently surprised that almost every seat was a good seat. We were pretty far back, I am fairly short, and I could see the entire stage. They also have several large projector screens to assist. This is one of my least favorite places to see a concert in Dallas. The lawn seats are a joke, you can't hear anything and the experience is always disappointing. You can't get good seats thru the motherfucking Ticketmaster which I hate with a passion. The beers are ridiculous--$12 for a 24 oz Bud in 2009. Are you kidding me? Parking is ridiculous too: expensive, hard to get in and out, traffic is the worst. The whole place is a waste of money. I "saw" Aerosmith there this summer, maybe July/August, and it was basically a waste of money. Of course, now that Steven may quit the band makes my experience "historical," but still, this is not the place to go if you want a good concert experience. Granada is great, HOB is great, AAC is good and much better than this. read more

July 9, 2006 was last time I was at Smirnoff, I had reserved seats in the middle section of the venue. Free tickets I had managed to fanagle out of my former employer's hands. I had the ex, aka TheThug, bum a ride to my office from the neighbors so we only had to drive one car home after the concert. It was a late night and I had what can only be described as a CONTACT HIGH from all the smoke in the air. Although, I guess this was to be expected when the musical acts were Lynyrd Skynyrd and 3 Doors Down. Just a few weeks shy of two years later, I was back at Smirnoff (aka Super Pages Center) for the Rascal Flatts concert. I was with Jenn, Tracey, Rebecca and JenR. We staked out our spot in what can only be described as an obstructed view location due to the ropes being used to corral the herd. *Note to Self... don't ever sit near the aisle again as people will walk on top of you to go get more drinks... or teenagers run over your blankets to go hug the latest teeny-bopper to walk by that OMG, we haven't seen you in 25 hours.* I didn't see any of Taylor Swift as I just wasn't in the mood to stand for 4 hours straight. I waited until Rascal Flatts started to stand up and I still couldn't see. I felt bad for most of my group as I'm a good 4 inches taller than all but one of my cohorts. The covered seats close to the stage can get quite expensive too depending on the artist. Please don't bother going here. The bathrooms are horrible. I have been many times and it just is not worth it. I love Evanescence and Amy Lee but I will never set foot in this place again. It is so hot in the summer. The security lets the crowd knock you down because people are high on whatever. The sound was awful everytime I went. I had 4th row tickets one time for Korn/Evanescence and when Korn came on people from the back were climbing over the seats and trying to get to the pit, shoving me. The security guy said, what am I supposed to do? Then a big fight broke out in the pit. If this sounds fun, have at it. Me, I love you Amy, but you are playing a pit in August, again. I must have had a completely opposite experience as a lot of people did, but security moved very quickly during the Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa concert. It feels great to share the stage with thousands of other people jiving out to the same music. The lawn seats are always cheaper if you are on a budget, but the view is great considering how much less you are paying per ticket. The chaos afterwards is terrible in the parking lot. it would be nice if they could provide some volunteers to steer traffic properly and in orderly lines. Drinks are overpriced, but when are drinks never overpriced inside concert venues? I've been here for many events, and so far so good. read more

Not much a fan of this place. I remember when I was in high school back in the day when I caught The Cure on their Disintegration tour, and this place was the shizzle. It's just about the same now as it was back then. We went to 97.1's BFD last night - Poison and Motley Crue. Temperature-wise, it was surprisingly comfortable for being 95 at showtime. Negatives: We spent some time hanging out in the parking lot and found out they have *no* bathrooms located outside the facility. None. Not a portajohn, nothing. So forgive the masses if they have to make due. Bleh. The screens on either side of the stage were small, and they showed NO close-ups of the show. In fact, the feed was even smaller than reality. The bathrooms don't have many stalls, so there's quite a wait, even for a show that seems to have far more men than women. And the fan inside the bathroom does little to make it feel comfortable inside the bathroom. Positives: Tonight offered free parking! :) Hooray! It's always fun - and I'd argue that it's far more comfortable - to hang in the lawn seats! read more

Smoking shouldn't be allowed. I have two guys in front of me smoking pot (illegal, great job searching at the gate) and their is a family next to them. This 13 year old girl is getting pot in her lungs. Second hand smoking is bad, especially pot, like what??? We came to Dallas for the Lana Del Rey show. My main concern is not that the concert was cancelled due to weather conditions, but rather how the venue conducted the cancellation. It was a mad house exiting the venue. People were running, causing commotion, and some were very drunk. I'm surprised I didn't see anyone get hit while walking/running in the middle of the streets. I'm sure there has to be a better way to handle an evacuation! I think the venue/employees need a refresher course in safety precautions. Yes, we were all disappointed in the cancelled show. However, what disappointed us more was the chaos that ensued because of how Gexa chose to handle the situation. read more

UPDATE SEPT. 2015: I took a blanket with me to sit on the lawn and I ended up throwing it away since they would not allow anyone to take blankets in. They are so concerned about something as trivial as a small blanket, but yet someone set a fire on the lawn and in another area a couple were having sex. Way to go!! It's no wonder I haven't been back in over a year to this place. Anytime there's a concert, I always check to see where it's at first. I'll stick with better establishments from now on. I usually prefer events at this location due to the historically free parking and the great view that the lawn access has. Though last night was just embarrassing for Dallas and it's ability to handle crowd control. It took over an hour to access the last 500 meters of this area and park for it. Many police hired for the event were lazily just sitting in their cars not directing traffic. Once you got inside the venue, things were not much better. Concession lines were slow and extremely long. If you were lucky enough to wait it out for some food, it was often just lukewarm or flat out cold. Luckily, they take all of your belongings from you at the door so they can force you to wait in their understaffed low quality food lines. I am seriously considering if I would even come back to this location. Everyone knows this is not in the best part of town, but my best customer service experience came from parking in one of the 3rd party lots from one of the local residents. This was the last place I expected an overly friendly encounter. What I didn't expect is that this would be the only encounter of the night. read more

I enjoy watching bands here mainly because it is the best of both worlds: you can have an actual seat, be under a covered area, but still have the benefits of an open air venue. Granted, I've always had reserved seats when I have been here, so I cannot speak to the lawn experience. I like the sound quality that this place provides as well as the large space for those performers who like to work the stage. If you can swing it, go for seats in the center somewhere, or just to the left or right of center. The far sides can sometimes have obstructed views, so be careful of that. I recommend bringing a large bag/purse that you can stash goodies in so you aren't forced to pay for the food there. I do this to save money & my waistline since most of what they sell is dipped in grease anyway. Might even work for stashing a flask or two! I dislike the fact that, for most events, you have to cough up an extra $15 to park, but I cannot say it surprises me. If you check out the advertisements for some events, it'll tell you if parking is included in your ticket price. Again, though, this is pretty standard at any event you go to, even those not at this venue (re: AAC, HOB, etc). I've done the VIP parking & I can't honestly say it is worth the extra money. I'd rather park & walk than pay extra to sit in my car longer while waiting in line to get out of the gates. I have enjoyed concerts here and will continue to see my favorite bands here when they roll through town :) read more

After a number of shows here, I deem Gexa as being, absolutely OK. There's really nothing pretty to look at when you arrive, or while walking around the venue, and if it's hot...bless you child there isn't much shade to hide under. I've been in both the pit and the lawn, and liked both. Personally I feel the seated areas aren't worth the money, since you'll probably end up standing when the headliner comes on stage. Drinks are hella expensive, and the wine based cocktails aren't very potent. You're better off just buying the 24 oz. cans of light beer throughout your visit. Though that's probably a good move at any concert venue, unless they have a full bar... Getting here from any city other than Dallas is a pain in the ass. Expect traffic to delay you at least an hour, no matter what. People get ridiculous around exit 428A, but if you've driven in downtown before, you know that already. I'm content with the bathrooms and the cleanliness of the venue overall, I've yet to be disgusted by any of it, but if it starts going downhill, I'll update my review. Personally I think the lawn is the place to be. Not only are the tickets cheaper, but there's a nice culture out there, and it's nice to sit in the grass and stare at the couple stars you can see. read more

This place has gone down hill and is in need of some updates. Parking is terrible it shouldn't take an hour to get into the parking lot. They have plenty of staff standing around at the gate that could be helping out to move traffic along. Inside you will find an outdated sound system that use to sound great from the lawn. Now you are better off paying for parking and sitting in your car if you have lawn seats it pretty much sounds the same. On the food front 11 dollar beers will suck the money out of your pocket. Overpriced!!! Apathetic security staff... Sat under the pavilion; had great seats, great show and a nice breeze. But found it hard to believe that two twenty something girls were kicked out for being on their phones, (they probably didn't even know that it was not allowed), but the jackass behind us (yes, heckling at a comedy show) was allowed to stay, even after security was flagged down to complain about him. He was pissing off everybody within an earshot! Yeah, security said sorry, nothing we can do about it! Seriously!?!!! Beverages are WAY overpriced! I love that they have a bar at the venue where you can relax with adult beverages, but c'mon...and charging $4.50 for a bottle of water in three digit degree weather is just asinine!!!! I have been going there since it was Starplex and don't remember it being such a pain in the ass to go to. Been to Gexa three times and am NOT impressed. This venue is an open air pavilion with concert seats & cheap lawn viewings that are just spectacular. People walking by is super annoying. Concessions need to stay open until the show ends. Gexa pavilion could use some TLC, but it is still a fun place to see a concert. I would maybe think twice about an August concert because it can be awfully hot, but if you love the band then it is worth it. I have seen many bands there over the years and usually find the grass to be more fun, but you also can't see too much from there because it is in the back. read more

I have been to several concerts here. Yes it's big and fitting for concerts however it's so hot when you come in the summer. They have lawn seating and they have semi indoor seating. The semi indoor seating is just a big covered area that is open to the outdoors so it's still really hot. They have huge fans above your head but it's still really hot to me. They sell food and beverages. The restrooms were pretty clean surprisingly. There is a lot of parking but unless you get there early you will be walking pretty far. I rather go to an indoor concert place but it was ok. read more

Came here to see Panic at the Disco and Weezer. The line was winding around outside with no sense of direction. Everyone was confused, there was no one actually working to guide any of the concert goers the right way. The show was supposed to start at 7, not sure what time the gates actually opened, we finally made our way in around 8 and missed Panic's first song. At the gates, there was no clear reason as to WHY the line situation outside was being so ridiculous. Everyone working there looked like a high school kid with a summer job. The acoustics/music were good, but there was a pillar blocking one of the screens. Overall would not go to a concert here again. read more

First off I posted three pictures that follow after the crazy girl and guy getting it on the lawn ,which are pictures 31, 32, and 33 to give an idea of how far the stage is from section 102, roll M, seat 15. I saw Train, The Script, and Gavin DeGraw. I can't complain about anything it was a lot of fun, there was a huge fan right above me while it was 100 degrees outside! I had a good view of the artist. Oh for a bottle of water is $5.00 bucks thats all I bought to drink. They make you throw your drinks to the trash before going inside. As for restrooms the stools weren't dirty and it didn't smell inside either. Buuuut women will be women so there will be a line outside the door while men are walking in and out of the restrooms as if they were superman. read more

I've frequented Gexa (I still call it the Smirnoff) many times over the past 13 years and I have awesome memories of seeing Mary J Blige, Babyface, Charlie Wilson, Jill Scott, John Mayer, and many more. I've sat on the lawn as well as assigned seating and think there are drawbacks to both scenarios. It gets really hot in anywhere you sit depending on the time of the year. In my most recent concert to see Dave Chappelle I noticed that sitting in seats behind the speakers (i.e. Section 100 Row G) are possibly the worse seats in the venue. Because we were behind where the speaker was position it was very difficult to hear although we were seven rows from the stage. I've never experienced this problem before so let this be a word of caution if you're purchasing tickets, stay toward the center of the stage. Even with all of the bad things that everyone has written about the Gexa there is something to be said for an outdoor concert listening to live music under the stars. read more

Went to KXT's summer cut at the beginning of June and was pleasantly surprised with this venue. I loved that we didn't have to pay for parking and we got great lawn spots in front of the main stage. The side stage and food stands were not far from where we camped out - although it was a little hard to find the side stage at first since it was tucked away in the back. This place isn't super huge like some other venues, so I didn't feel like I would get swallowed up by a crowd if I wanted to venture off and explore vendor carts on my own. The prices for food here is jacked up like all venues, but you can find some pretty good value meals here and there. We had to wait a really long time for our hotdog combo... somehow our hotdogs kept getting given away to other customers, but the lady who helped us felt really bad and gave us three free refills of soda (a $13 dollar value according to their menu..) I really enjoyed hanging out on the lawn - the laid back environment here was perfect for hosting a summer outdoor concert! read more

I have been to a hand full of concerts here and they have all been really great. I have experienced both under the pavilion and on the lawn and i prefer the lawn. I really enjoy the laid back vibe.People on the lawn, having a good time, drinking and dancing, its great. Seen some pretty cool bands here, like Coldplay and Styx, and it's probably worth a trip it if there's a big band in town. We've only had lawn seats, and you better get there early if you do, as it fills up pretty quickly. All the concessions and stuff are ridiculously expensive, so we never get any. I've never heard so much crap as some of these reviews. If you're going for a rock concert, it's exactly what it should be. First of all rock concerts and marijuana go together it's part of the experience. Can't fail a UA from contact. Second, the bathrooms are clean. Saw ppl cleaning them all day, yea so I had to wait in a few lines so what. Whiners. There are also very clean porta johns by front gate. And of course prices are high anything that's worth it is gonna cost. No problem with seating. Tough it out on the lawn with the hardcore. As far as the sound, all bands at BFD 2018 sounded great. But then you wouldn't hear A Perfect Circle sound anything but stellar. Had an awesome time. read more

Went on a hot summer night to see Tim McGraw. The outdoor atmosphere is great and I sat on the lawn with a couple of girl friends. If the band is popular make sure you get there early, otherwise you'll be shoved in a corner with a huge column in front of you. Bathrooms could use some work and beers were $9 a pop. They make you throw away your water so don't try to sneak any in in an effort to avoid paying for an overpriced sip within the grounds. This is a great place for a concert. Although have to admit it's blazing hot every time you go there. Plus side there is plenty of parking and it is free unless you opt for a VIP package. Easy access from the highways makes it fairly easy to leave at the end of the evening. Can't lie it's going to cost you if you plan on drinking through the evening. Beer and food prices can get a little high but everything I've tasted there was amazing for concert level food. read more

I saw my very first concert at what was then the Starplex... And it honestly hasn't changed much over the years. Or like... at all. No renovations, no real updates. The only reason it gets 3 stars is because it's really the only large outdoor amphitheatre in the area that gets big name bands. Of course, this is Dallas... and it's going to be Surface of the Sun Hot outside for at least 3 months out of the year. And that is, unfortunately, when a lot of the big concert tours come through town. Blink 182 was here just last night, and the only reason I didn't go? It's here. Yes, it's late September, but it was still in the 90s yesterday. I don't want to pay $5 for a bottle of water while I stand around and melt. When I was younger, it was alright.. I was here for Ozzfest, several Edgefests, Warped Tours, etc. But of course my secret weapon during those times was being friends with girls who worked at the Pizza Hut at the concessions... We'd all sneak into the giant walk-in fridge and cool off between bands. I think that's the only thing that kept me alive at Ozzfest when it felt like 130 degrees outside in July 10 years ago. If I win tickets to a concert at the Gexa? Or if any connections can get me in for free? I'll go. It's a decent venue. Sound isn't great, they need more giant screens, and they have changed the rules to allow you to bring basically NOTHING with you to your lawn seats (a few years ago they even disallowed blankets. Those might be okay again, but I'd check before trying to head in with one). But it's certainly not amazing. I will, however, always have great memories of tearing it up in the pit at the Blink 182/Green Day show back in 2002. Or in the Mighty Mighty Bosstones (at Edgefest) pit back in 2001. Or at the No Doubt pit in 2000. Then of course, most of Ozzfest of 2001 is a blur due to the booze my friend got an older dude to buy us. But still... memories. I attended Rammstein concert in the VIP Box, had a great time. The sound was good, lots of parking spaces, nice staff. The prices for drinks were cheaper for our seats than the ones from the other venues. read more
