While it's not quite as authentic as what I'm used to, it was still very enjoyable. Big props to their chile con queso--it's actually really, really good! This has been the least appetizing experience since we've been in Colorado. We figured a Mexican restaurant near our hotel was a safe option, but we were mistaken. While the staff was kind and the food was quick, the flavors and portions were lacking. We intentionally ordered the Big Tex to share, and it was not worth the $21. If this was the size of the "Big" version, I'd be skeptical about the standard size. The lime was overpowering but didn't taste like fresh lime, more like an artificial flavoring. Definitely a busy and happening place in Dylan Colorado. A sports bar type of atmosphere where you can find a pool table, a pinball machine, four person, Pac-Man, and multiple large screen TVs tune in to whatever games are currently going on. The tortilla soup is up there as one of the best I've had. It's a tomato based with large chunks of shredded chicken, ask for a side of sour cream to have a long side with your soup and you'll be in tortilla soup tastebud heaven. The welcoming basket of chips and salsa hits the spot while you're waiting for your order to arrive. We were recently there again on a busy night and only had to wait about 20 minutes which was not bad at all. We changed some dollars into quarters and enjoyed a family Pac-Man tournament. Our server Alex was great, she's been our server a couple times that we've been there and is always very helpful. read more

I don't even know where to begin, but let's start with this: this place is an insult to Mexican food. I came in excited for tamales -- I left angry, hungry, and genuinely offended. The tamales? Absolute garbage. Dry, bland, and somehow both overcooked and under-seasoned at the same time. I've had paper towels with more flavor and better texture. I don't know what they stuffed them with -- dust? Regret? A single shred of overboiled meat? Whatever it was, it tasted like punishment. And the service? Atrocious. Our server looked like he hated being there, which, honestly, I get -- if I worked there, I'd be miserable too. But still, maybe pretend for five seconds that you care? He dropped off our plates like he was delivering a court summons, never came back to check on us, and when I asked for salsa, he sighed so hard I thought he was going to pass out. We had to flag someone down twice just to get water. The whole place had the warmth and energy of a DMV lobby during a power outage. Music skipping, lights flickering, and a weird smell I couldn't identify but definitely didn't trust. Don't walk away from this place -- run. Fast. And if you care at all about food, service, or basic human decency, never set foot in this disaster of a restaurant. I wouldn't feed those tamales to my worst enemy. Best Mexican food we've had in a long time. Don't laugh, but we base our judgement on how spicy the food is. We believe in order to make yummy food, the flavors need to be everything but super spicy, because when your mouth is burning, how could you taste anything?!?!?? First we were happy with the chips and salsa. Since the salsa was so dippable and not that spicy, it was drinkable too (but no, I didn't drink it, lol.) Then came the Carnitas quesadilla which was the most wonderful thing I've tasted during this entire visit to Keystone. The meat was so juicy, the juice was coming down my fingers to my arm as I was holding the quesadilla. Must try! Chicken and mushroom enchiladas was creamy, tender, and flavorful; I did not care for the black beans though. That's why I preferred the Street tacos more as the refried beans were oh-so-goooooood! We thought this would be a safe option, near our hotel, on a snowy evening where we didn't want to drive for dinner. We were sadly wrong. We ordered takeout and brought back to our room. The chips were fine, but the salsa was way more than chunky... it had what looked like scraps of tomatoes, green onions, and onions. Not appetizing at all - and I LOVE a good chunky salsa. We ordered the Big Tex (Allegedly a larger version of their Tex platter), for me and my wife to share. This must have been the smallest portion I've ever seen at a Mexican restaurant - again, we ordered the large version of a meal for a reason... Flavors were lacking all over, small portions, expensive plates, and a salsa that somehow disappointed more than the rest of the meal. Huge place and all was fine, but the food was really very mediocre. The chips and salsa may have been my favorite thing, oh, and the free cinnamon mints at the door. When your favorite things are the free things, you probably won't return. Nothing to write home about. My veggie burrito was bland and overpriced with no sides. My husband's Burrito, something chicken, was similar--just okay. My son had mini cheeseburgers with fries (oddly, they did this well, at a Mexican place, no less) and my daughter had a combo burrito and enchilada but the enchilada had to sauce in it so it was just a flat and rolled quesadilla. The rice is bland, but vegetarian. The refried beans have lard (fyi vegetarians) but they have black beans. We sat at a table next to the kitchen and could hear servers talking and complaining so the ambiance was 0/5 stars. I used to work as a server so it was even less calming for me. read more

This is another on our list of To Dos when we are in Keystone. It's also another that you're going to have a wait but it's worth it. I'm not a white queso fan but this one is seasoned to perfection. Fajitas are enough for at least two people (we each had 3 fajitas off of a single order) Yes you have to pay for extra salsa but our table of 5 was brought 2 bowls and we had plenty. The guacamole is the regular guacamole you get with fajitas and probably the only thing I wouldn't spend money on. Servers are always very kind and work as fast as they can. Margaritas are STRONG! We visited Dos Locos in July 2020 on the night we stayed in Keystone on a whim. And I'm really glad Dos Locos is where we ended up eating because it was SO so so good. We ordered our food to go and ate it at our hotel across the street (Hyatt Place) and loved that it was in easy walking distance. I ordered three pork tacos and ate every single bite! The slaw was delicious and the pork tasted fantastic. The beans and rice were great, too. We also had chips and pico -- their pico was phenomenal. We came into town looking for a bathroom. The owner was cleaning up, not yet open and let us come in to use the restroom. We went back for dinner with family the next evening. Pro tip; they allow you to call ahead for getting on the wait list if you're within 15 minutes of the restaurant. This is the best Mexican restaurant at Keystone, it's also the only one. They're alright, nothing to write home about, service is mediocre at best, with the exception of the bar. If the wait is not too long, and your party not too large, I'd opt for the bar instead of table. If you're staying on the Mountain House Lodge side of Keystone, as opposed to River Run side, you really just have four walking-distance food options; this place, Snake River Saloon & Steakhouse, Goat Soup (dive bar), Pizza 101 (carry out-only). On busy nights, Snake River requires reservations but is a good option, you have this place if you want a more traditional restaurant, or Goat is good if you just want bar food and a lively atmosphere. So, what to expect? Well it's a big place, so fortunately even on busy nights the wait isn't too bad. It is not what you'd normally picture for a Mexican restaurant. The food is more tex-mex than Mexican, it's more like a sports bar than anything else (requisite pool table, video games, claw game, TV's everywhere, etc.), and the service is not particularly good. They have some good margarita options, and some horrible options; the house margarita tastes like lime Gatorade, so I recommend one of the upgraded options. The mezcal margarita is great; love that one. The food was honestly not bad, but again, think tex-mex and you probably won't be disappointed. Great salsa; first bowl is free. If you're staying on the Mountain House side of Keystone, I'd definitely recommend this over the garbage options at River Run which are simply horrible, so don't waste your time on the 20 minute bus ride, just split your time between here and Snake River Saloon and you should come out relatively happy. The staff are all very nice, my issue isn't with that, it's just that the wait staff tend to forget you're there, or can't figure out how to get orders correct. My brother literally asked for a three ingredient meal; he wanted a burrito with only chicken and black beans, nothing else. So you need a tortilla, chicken, and black beans. Great margaritas and service at the bar but everything else was pretty bad. The salsa is terrible. I feel like it had celery in it?!?!? The queso tastes like white velveeta with a packet of taco seasoning thrown in. The carnitas quesadilla and chicken and mushrooms burrito were pretty good but the beans, both black and refried, were so bland. Our service was terrible. Our waitress disappeared forever. Confortable food on a budget and great service. While at keystone, we stopped here twice in a 4 days trip. Best soup after a long day on the slopes. The portions was generous and the fresh ingredients were just simply yummy. The bowl of chips and sweet with a hint salsa was amazing. Don't be afraid to ask for a refill for an extra charge but it worth it. We miss the karaoke but it sounded really fun. The only thing I tried that I did no like in my case was the salad. Meh, it's ok Tex-Mex type Mexican food. The highlights were the chicken flautas (would have preferred these to my steak fajitas entree) and the mezcal margarita. The biggest negatives that could have been solved by just direct communication: 1) there's an automatic add on of 15% gratuity for your take out order (I get it, it's covid and businesses are struggling, but you need to tell the customer this). 2) "20oz" margarita is nothing close to 20oz of marg (see attached photo). I was told "it's 20oz when you add ice", ok maybe it's even a liter if you add enough ice! Again, just tell me. I get it, this is probably the standard mix amount for your in house 20oz marg, but that's not what's advertised. The fajitas were so so, beef was tender but fairly flavorless and no salsa on the side to give it any kind of kick, so very boring flavor for Mexican, which come on, Mexican food should not be bland. Fish tacos were pretty good but beef a double tortilla because they disintegrated. Churros were also pretty tasty. Ok, the good: despite my complaints on the marg size, it was quite flavorful, nice smokey mezcal and plenty strong. read more

Had a FABULOUS time sitting at the bar . My sis and I arrived at 630pm and sat at the bar while waiting on a table. The bartender DJ took such good care of us, we decided to forego our table when it became available and stayed seated at the bar. We are NOT locals but we quickly felt like family as we began talking to some locals. The food was delicious and arrived quickly. We both had the 20oz signature margaritas and they did NOT disappoint. The place was packed whenever we left at 930pm. Obviously, we had a good time to have stayed 3 hrs at a place where we knew no one on arrival but had several new friends whenever we left. Honestly, can't say enough good things about the bartender DJ. He is a huge asset. Plans to go back again tomorrow. It was that much fun ! read more

Had high expectations because the place looks great from outside and it's just across the street from River Run Village. Food and margarita was very disappointing. I ordered the three item choice dinner. Beans and rice were very good, but the so-called chimichanga was far less than a chimi. My order was for two shredded pork chimichangas of the three items. I was served chicken, instead of pork and, worse, the "chimichangas" were nothing but poorly seasoned shredded chicken inside of fried and rolled tortillas. They had nothing else on or in them. No sauces, no lettuce, no cheese, no tomato, no sour cream, no guacamole - nothing but plain dry chicken inside a burrito style fried tortilla. We ordered frozen mango margaritas, which turned out to be from a mix and tasted like very tart pre-mix regular margaritas. I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

Went last night around 9 pm. Bar was full, but the tables on the floor were mostly empty. When you walk in, the entrance is tight. No one greeted me, so I had my pick of tables. Sat down and made myself comfortable. After a few minutes, a guy comes up to me and asks if this is where I would like to sit. I responded "yes this is where I would like to sit." He then tells me that I should have waited to be seated. I respond by stating that I did not see a "wait to be seated sign."I can leave." He then says no, it's OK, but next time you need to be seated. Instead of a waitress bringing me a glass of water, menu and chips, I get a lesson. This place isn't some higher end mexican restaurant where every table is being used with people waiting for an open table. Like I stated, most of the tables were empty. Chili relleno burrito was a little better but both left me unsatisfied... and hungry afterward. Refills of salsa are $2. The salsa is chunky with quite large pieces of onions and tomatoes. Not my cup of tea. Our server didn't know what ground beef hard shell tacos were, so leaves me questioning the training of staff. Food was great! But there were two things I wasn't happy about: when I arrive to pay and pick my takeout order, the guy at the reception was playing his phone while processing my card. Then, when I got back to my hotel room I realize I didn't get any utensils so we had to eat our wet burritos and rice with hands.
