While we had a great experience with the educators, we cannot recommend this school because of the administration. They have lofty ideals but are not able to implement it. Ms. Angela, the social-emotional support specialist is especially incompetent at her job. My advice is to never share with her any difficulty your child is going through because she will use it to define your child for the rest of their time at Dot to Dot, even after the difficulty has long been overcome. They claim to work with parents but the truth is that they are deaf to what parents have to say and just want a one way communication. It's been over a year since i pulled my youngest son out of this school, but i still feel this review is important for all the below reasons. 1. Negligence /safety issues 2. Not reporting cases 3. Unprofessional teacher/staff 4. Dismissing child's concern 5. Lack of activity in the classroom This review is purely for my youngest son who was there for six months but was left him completely traumatised. One of the child in the classroom was throwing toys / items at my son and it impacted him a lot. Cases were not being reported and when asked, teacher said the other child is still learning to process his emotions more efficiently. No steps were taken to make sure my child is safe. Incidents happened multiple times and none were reported. Sometimes it was paint, sometimes toys, etc. My son was scared to go to school. Every other day there used to be new staff in the classroom and none were aware of this situation and they let the other child be next to him. He was impacted emotionally & psychologically. I strongly feel teacher was unqualified, unskilled, unprofessional, lazy & uncaring. The staff was not helpful in spite of raising concerns about teacher. There were barely any activities happening in the classroom. During drop off i had witnessed teacher eating kids snacks that was supposed to be served to kids later that day. My son used to hysterically cry during drop off and during pick up he was still crying. Every staff member told me he will be fine in few. I am glad that one day after dropping him off i waited in car a little longer to go check on him and see if any of the staff members helped calm him down but they did nothing. I just went in and picked up my son and walked away. None of the staff members/ owner reached out to follow up. This truly speaks volumes about the school. Be wise and make a better choice. Our kids have been going to DTD RB for quite some time. We are so incredibly lucky to have found such loving, supportive, patient and experienced educators to help guide our children through these crucial formative years, as well as allow them to flourish intuitively and organically. Our type of parenting and values align very much with the Reggio approach and the way it is being implemented at Dot to Dot. We admire the amount of sheer time and work the educators put in towards not only actively engaging with the kids during the day but also the time spent documenting their adventures and inquisitive behavior every single day via Kaymbu. These educators deserve all the recognition in the world and in all forms: from sincere acknowledgements to compassion to (most importantly) solid compensations. The way we like to gauge if something is working for our kids and that they are happy, is by evaluating their propensity to go back to an activity, or a play date, or in this case a school. Well, they are eager to go every single day, and they miss DTD when they are on vaca. (I only take this a little bit personally) This alone instills faith and reassurance in our decision for them to attend this particular school. As a Covid baby he had limited interaction with kids.His first exposure to peers was at school & he has been blossoming ever since. We have been with Dot to Dot for over two years, and now two kids :D I can say without hesitation that it has been everything we hoped to find in a preschool. When we began the (exhausting) search for a preschool, we knew what we wanted above all was a place where our child would be loved. We wanted small class sizes, hands-on arts/crafts/experiments and room to play and explore outside. I guess we did want a lot (who doesn't?), but above all we wanted our child to feel loved and be happy to go to school. We didn't feel that anywhere more than we did at Dot to Dot. The facilities are amazing - the classrooms and outdoor areas are a direct reflection of the kids and are constantly changing to keep up with their interests. The educators are incredible - kind, loving, open, encouraging and supportive. They make genuine connections with our children, and I'm amazed at the things my kids come home and teach me that they've learned there. The educators amaze me every day with their positive energy and patience. Honestly, I don't know how they do it. The school has been flexible and understanding at every turn, including in this most challenging of years. During stay at home orders, when the school could not be open physically, the educators facilitated meaningful Zoom meetings every day, keeping our kids engaged and connected (and giving us parents a minute to breathe :D) When things began to slowly open back up, the Dot to Dot facilitators were flexible and accommodating, helping families feel comfortable coming back to the school when they could. Dot to Dot is that rare diamond in the rough - a gem of a school and place for kids to grow and learn. As I write this review, I'm very saddened because when we started bringing our son to Dot to Dot we were very hopeful and excited about the Reggio Emilia approach and the educated staff that were going to help facilitate this philosophy. However, it has been over two years and I'm not only removing my son from the school but I will also not be enrolling our younger son because of the the disrespect shown to me by the owner Ms Mazi and the school's Director Ms Adriana. My overall discontentment with Dot to Dot has grown within the last year and to be clear, none of my grievances have to do with their COVID practices. Recently, the school has been unable to keep a consistent classroom environment pertaining to its staff because of the hostile culture and illegal practices that Ms Mazi and Ms Adriana demand of their educators. There are 2 teachers for each class and the Roots class has had 3 teachers leave in the last year. While the teachers were revolving faster than they could staff them, I also noticed that some of my son's friends were being moved into the next level class. When I inquired why this was being done, Ms Adriana told me that she was conducting "evaluations" and that some children were deemed ready for the next class. While I was fine with keeping my son where he was to help keep a level of consistency in his life, I was also curious how they made that assessment and with what criteria they were basing their decisions on. That question went unanswered. Ultimately, I realized that this was a strategic business move since there was an uneven distribution of children in the school and they could maximize their revenue if they shuffled some kids around. I was also recently alerted that during these evaluations Ms Adriana exhibited some unacceptable behavior in my son's classroom. Apparently, If your child is not playing in a manner that is consistent with the Reggio Emilia provocations, she will come down hard on them and tell them they are playing the wrong way. Concerned about her involvement in the classroom, I sent an email to the school asking for a meeting with Ms Adriana and Ms Mazi. I received a timely response letting me know that they would be open to setting up a meeting, but once I replied asking what date would work best for them, I never received a response. Since then, I have sent a follow up email to which I still have yet to received a response. To add insult to injury, I saw Ms Mazi at the school and she ignored me. Overall, I have truly enjoyed most of the teachers and I love the philosophy of the school. However, there is a complete lack of communication and responsiveness which when coupled with Ms Adriana's unprofessionalism makes this school a big mistake. read more

She is having a blast at school because they get to do all if the fun things usually you don't offer at home. Environment - lots of opportunities to learn and explore! Clean and brand new furniture. Dot to Dot was the right place for my daughter. She attended from age 3 to 5. I only wish we had moved to San Diego sooner so she could have started at Dot to Dot sooner. From day one with nervous tears in her eyes, the staff lovingly provided for my daughter. I loved the variety of subject matter the kids explored. My dot was a no jacket, barefoot kind of kid and Dot to Dot helped her embrace herself with healthy boundaries. She learned the value of her voice and how to ask thoughtful questions. When the time came my daughter was kindergarten ready! I found the facility clean and colorful. Any of my concerns during our tenure were quickly and professionally managed. My daughter also attended summer camp at Dot to Dot. She loved the weekly horse backing, an activity I would not have been able to afford otherwise. Their summer camp explored many places throughout San Diego too! Dot to Dot was an investment in my daughter's well-being and future. To this day, I still attribute much of her success to Dot to Dot. I am disappointed to still hear about several issues here. At the onset of dropping by while touring daycares in the area I was met at the door by the owners mother asking "where was I from and who was I with". I found that to be odd as I wasn't sure if my 8 month belly bump read danger or what. Nonetheless, like another reviewer I was asked to schedule a tour which sort of made me feel there was something to hide, but I obliged. **My current early learning facility walked me in without an appointment and they are accredited with owners with a background in education...I digress....During the tour I asked about their diversity and inclusion practices amongst staff and within curriculum and was told that it is indeed important to them. I recently learned - just as I tried to do- there has been nothing to honor Black History Month. As an educator and HR professional who understands the importance of inclusivity in teacher representation, curriculum, and in peer play groups in the learning environment I emailed 28 days of Black History Month facts and several activities. I also sent easy to implement projects only to recall prior months of pictures and parents invited - celebrating European-American holidays or other ethnic group celebration pictures, blogs, and art work sent home. None reflective of my Black family and their Black student. When asked why my suggestions weren't used in March - I was just apologized to by the Asst. Director. I'm learning in 2022 - this is the same theme - no implementation of the significance of celebrating Black influence on America and including stories into early learning. I think this exposure and work is crucial in early learning years because it helps minimize issues formally exposed within the district this school sits in, build well exposed and well rounded children, and creates safer communities that don't call 911 on BIPOC teenagers, young adults, people that "look/act/behave differently" and those that identify as disabled. Beyond just the month of February - intentional recruitment of Black educators is necessary for the purpose of representation. Second, I would be remiss if I didn't share the heartache (mommy tears) and isolation I felt for the permanent dismissal of my son at 3yrs old. To protect his education profile I won't go into detail, but things could've been handled differently and I expected more. We weren't given a warning prior to the decision to expel him and we didn't feel administration treated us with love and grace. While I didn't completely disagree with concerns around his needs and their bandwidth, his teacher never felt the decision was warranted and she was onboard with working through some of the concerns. This teacher was later befriended by the owner only to use personal conversations to decide for "said teacher" that it would be best if they let her go. My husband and I were beyond disappointed and sad to hear how this beautiful soul was treated this way! I was even told by the Owner that the teacher had to focus too much on my son while the teacher never felt it was to the level of asking us to dis-enroll him all together immediately. Going back to my son - ironically, most of the behaviors (some common at that age some not) no longer exists and if they really believe in developing children in areas of character, independence, socially, and academically they would invest in staff development to assure only severely challenged children are "referred" to a different environment to better serve that learner. Instead, we were blind sided and left at the door...only to find the most amazing teacher who loved my child like her own was fired and his other teacher is no longer there either. My husband and I have been happy to write recommendations on her behalf and continue to have her in our sons life. I don't believe they have the proper training to determine when someone should be fired as the logic we heard sounded unreasonable and irrelevant. Pure heartless! I give Dot to Dot two stars for bringing our sons teacher into his life and ours. I suggest hiring an outside education consulting agency to assure there is a D&I plan, training on succession and retention, teacher development for students on diverse learning abilities + cultures, and student/parent sensitivity training. Maybe even pursue accreditation so they can be mentored and evaluated outside of their own beliefs and reactionary practices. While our entire experience wasn't horrible and I appreciate the times they were helpful and kind - in the words of Maya Angelou - "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." sa read more

They are the worst school. During the tour, they try to sell you all these wonderful ideas about reggio, but they never execute them after you actually send you kids there. They let children poop and pee in their pants and they tell you that's how they potty train the kids. This dramatically traumatized my child's mental health. They don't let children wears shoes inside the classroom, but everyone else who works there all wear shoes including the front desk, teachers, and the directors. I don't see a point of forcing kids walk on their barefoot when adults bring germs and dirt's from outside into the classroom with their shoes on. Also, when the kids go paly in the back yard, the teacher let them running on their barefoot without putting any shoes on their feet. Their excuse is the children did not put on the shoes, but they are only two years old, and they don't know how to put on shoes by themselves yet. Their staff never help the two years old to wipe after pooping. Their excuse is they are reggio, and they expect children to do the wiping on their own. I feel they are just using the word of "reggio" as an excuse for their teacher to be lazy and not doing their job. Also, their teacher never help the two year old to open the lunch box or close the lunch box after eating. A lot of time, my kid was starving because he could not open his lunch box by himself due to he does not have enough strength to do that. The teacher never help him. During days when he was able to open his lunch box to eat, but he could close it by himself because he was too little and the teacher never help him close the lid either and all the food inside his container fell out into his lunch bag or backpack. When I questioned the teacher why you never helped him to open and close his lunch box, the teacher tells me because we are "reggio", and we expect the kids to do these kind of things on their own. Come on, he is only two year old and you tell me you expect a two year old to clean up the table after eating? This school also have a very high teacher turn over ratio. 90% of their teacher were gone within 6 month after we went to this school. Their yearly teacher turn over ratio is like more than 50% which is not good for the children development. BTW, they have a teacher called Ms. Linda. She is very mean to the children. She constantly scold and yell at the children. In my eyes, she is not qualified to be a preschool teacher at all. This school is just ridiculous. As I said, they are using reggio as a excuse to not do their job and not caring about the children. This founder only cares about the money. She doesn't care anything about the children. They also increase their tuition fee 8-11% yearly. read more

I love Dot to Dot and so does my daughter. From when I first toured the school and every day since, I have always felt like family here. Every staff member is kind and caring. They genuinely care for all of the kids with such patience and love. From meltdowns to exhilaration, I've seen kids give it all. And every staff member takes it in stride, helping each and every child. But for how great they are with the kids, as a parent, I have been welcomed too. Hugs and hellos are frequent as well as daily conversation about my daughter and plenty of other things. Additionally, I'm so grateful for the experience my daughter gets here. She's free to play and learn at her pace. She's a little engineer and she's social but she's encouraged to work at her own pace and comfort level around the other kids. Sometimes she wants to work on her own and wants some space, and sometimes she's literally face first into the activity. Either way, she is accepted and supported. She's learning complex science - like physics and sound - all from exciting childhood play - like rolling items down a slide. She's excited to show me and tell me about it. We absolutely love this school - the foundation, educators and families! Our son started at 2.5 years old and has excelled in many ways. We were looking for a Reggio Emilia school (different philosophy than a Montessori) and this is the nicest, most organized and enhanced learning environment for our child! The best way to describe it is a beautiful children's museum mixed with guided education. They encourage only healthy foods to be brought into the school and provide very healthy snacks as well. My niece loves this place. I loved how the children are so confident and independent. They are like little mini engineer artists at the place. When you walk in, you can't believe the art and creations that are made by the kids there. This is coming from a Mechanical Engineer, I just can't believe that children this young are being so creative and doing complex problem solving at this school. We've been at Dot to Dot for a year now and our family LOVES it. I was a Reggio preschool teacher before having children and I knew one of my biggest challenges would be finding a school for my daughter that met my standards. We did MANY tours at other schools and all of them left me feeling "okay" and not completely convinced it was the right fit for our family. Of course that was until we found Dot to Dot! The moment we walked in we knew this was the perfect fit. From the inspiring environment to the passion radiating off the staff this school is beyond perfect. We were worried about moving our son from the in-home daycare that he had been in since he was an infant to a pre-school setting because we were afraid that he would not get the same nurturing care that he did at our in-home. I can tell you that Dot to Dot has surpassed all of our expectations. Within the first couple of weeks of our son starting at Dot to Dot his vocabulary had grown exponentially and he was started to articulate his feelings to us. We love Dot to Dot's learning through play philosophy, this means that our son is encouraged to develop at his own speed. Flash back four years, my son was 3 and we were looking for a preschool experience that would essentially shape him to love learning in a warm and supportive environment. We found the owner and staff at Dot to Dot to be wonderful, welcoming and compassionate people. We trusted them with our son's formative educational experience and they certainly did right by him! He graduated from Dot to Dot and headed off to kindergarten, and now he is in first grade. I'll tell you, he loves to learn still. I credit Dot to Dot with instilling this in him by means of a curriculum based on discovery and project based learning. Now my daughter is there too, set to graduate this year, and she also loves to learn. The owner and staff have become our friends, and we are part of the Dot community. My son still shows up for vacation camps and after school events now and again. Thing is, I wouldn't trust anybody else quite like I trust the Dot folks with my kids. My kids feel safe, loved and nurtured at Dot to Dot. It's also my happy place, I love visiting there to drop off or pick up my daughter. So yeah. I'm not just recommending Dot to Dot. You will fall in love with the owner, director, teachers, and specialty staff (music, art, yoga, Spanish, public speaking, etc.), parents and the kids. I had a challenging time finding an after-school program for my TK daughter, who spent her infant-preschool years in a warm, loving home child care. I started her at a program focused on academics that while great for other kids, the cold, sterile, unfriendly staff was not a good fit for my sweet girl. Thank goodness I found Dot to Dot! Not only is there transportation from her school, the facility is warm, creative, loving and the perfect place for a kid to be a kid. Dot to Dot is not your standard Kindercare-esque child care facility or program and is in a class of its own in the 92127 and 92128 areas. The staff is kind, warm, creative and loving. The bathrooms are kid sized, the outdoor play area is unique and creative and the artwork is just beautiful. If you are looking for your child to explore freely, play creatively (think: sand and water 'soup' creations and pine cone collecting), create with nature, explore the world around them in a safe yet freedom to express themselves way and feel loved and supported, this is the place for your child.
