While my husband has been eating at Dotty's long enough to have met the late Dotty the elephant, this was the first time we came to Etna with our kids and Dotty's was our first stop. Our kids are picky little foodies and treat every meal like they are making a youtube review for it. They LOVED everything, giving 9 and 10 stars to everything. My western burger was also excellent, and they have "the good ice" for sodas. We liked the traditional fries more than the curly fries. The regular fries still taste like potato, fluffy inside and crispy outside. The shake flavors were all good, clearly handmade. Everything was obviously very fresh and portion sizes left no doubt that the kids left with full tanks. My husband and I could barely finish our food. Everyone was beyond nice, not always the case when you arrive with 6 kids. The next day the kids started right up with wanting to go back, but we had planned to hit Bob's Ranch House. Sadly they are now closed due to a fire, but the news was met with cheers from the kids since it meant another trip to Dotty's. The kids wanted orange soda instead of shakes and when I saw that wasn't an option on the soda fountain, staff offered to make them from scratch. The kids' minds were BLOWN! They praised the ice, the flavor, the consistency. I don't even like soda but can confirm, the balance was perfect. I tried the chicken this time, easily best chicken strip I've had. Very juicy, perfectly seasoned. My 8 year old took a bite and stole the tray, which was fine because it was so much food. They've maintained some of the vintage/retro aesthetic, we definitely enjoyed the little hit of nostalgia. My only suggestion would be to make tipping through apple pay possible. Fortunately we had some cash on hand but I rarely do and I definitely wanted to tip this food and service! We hope Dotty's is still here for our future family trips to Etna. read more

Not sure why this place only has 3.5 stars, they deserve such a better rating! I stopped through Dottie's FOUR times in 2 days. Each time, the staff were wonderful, the service was fast, and the food was DELICIOUS! I had the western burger, the mushroom and Swiss burger, and the chicken tenders. All were excellent. And their drinks are huge and they give free refills. Friends got the milkshakes and were in Heaven, I also tried the mozzarella sticks.. yum. If I wasn't hiking out of town already, I'd be eating there again today. Don't pass this place up! read more

It's Etna's only fast food joint and it's close to Highway 3 that eventually takes you back to the outside world. I remember when they called this place Dotty's Jolly Kone and they were known for their soft serve ice cream. They were my first introduction to this wacky new thing called "frogurt" (frozen yogurt nowadays) which only came in one flavor back then. Standard Foster's Old Fashioned Freeze-type grub. Mom & pop fast food. A large structure on the property has a mural of animals that were once part of Dotty's growing personal zoo. Everyone in town knew Dotty because she owned an elephant (and a llama... and others I forget). Real People (the TV show) came to town to do a story on her. This drive-in has been here for many years and is a favorite with locals and travelers. Today at lunch for example, members of a Yreka motorcycle club was eating at one of the picnic benches. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, on this warm spring day I chose a picnic table under a large oak tree with a great view of the fir-clad mountains raising above Etna. I ate the Dotty burger with cheese and all the trimmings including the Dot sauce that I hardly noticed. The meat was tender and juicy -- very fresh from a local ranch. My side of coleslaw was also good. What a beautiful day to ride through newly green Scott Valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains. read more

After trekking 100 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail, our group of 4 guys bee lined to Dotty's for lunch. We heard from another trekker that Dotty's is the best place to eat in town and that we would not be disappointed. She was right! We enjoyed our burgers, fried chicken sandwich, club sandwich, onion rings and a couple rounds of beer. Delicious! Dotty's offers a farm to table and local focus menu that truly makes the experience enjoyable both in taste and atmosphere. Prices are reasonable and the taste for the $ offers great value. You can't go wrong with a Jenner Burger and sweet potato fries here and top it all off with a wide variety of milkshake options. Choose your favorite mine is blackberry but the mango and strawberry and chocolate are also favorites. Different specials on Friday nights to try out if you're local and looking for something different. Yo this place is fye. Me and the boys go here on the weekends to sauce it up. We like to take naps on he picnic tables. I highly recommend it. They are very special. If you look up you'll see my favorite cloud. It's shaped like my best friend Betsy. She's a cow on my grandmas farm. Nothing says civilization after coming out of the local wilderness areas like a couple of cheese burgers and fries! Dots burgers are natural beef (tasty) and offered in numerous variations. As good as any you can find for many a mile from here (try 100). Personally I don't do the fountain treats, but I hear the berry shakes are thumbs up. read more

Double WOW! Factor for the NEW owners of Dotty's, Jon & Brandi. The BEST place in Scott Valley to have an Awesome Cheeseburger with DOT sauce...price point is reasonable for a family, kid friendly. Outside eating area looks great, we'll enjoy sunshine and horseshoes this Summer, maybe even have one of the kiddos Birthday party there this Summer....Fall in love with hamburger again with their locally sourced beef and if your waste line can handle it, order a milkshake too. Sitting here digesting a nice French fry dish they call Irish nachos = hot frys+fresh tomato+fresh green onion+melted cheddar cheese and a nicely paired mild salsa, to top it with if you decide. Overall my experience was good. Fast, friendly service, at a time when they have help wanted signs up. Hot food for me. Try it out yourself. I'm going to try other menu items in the future but the Irish nachos are on par with my favorite, frys with bacon blu cheese caramelized onion and sweet brandy reduction sauce. This is a quaint old fashioned place that is perfect for drive in country. Not only are staff friendly but customers as well. I had a chicken sandwich my partner had a burger both of us stuffed. It was very good. They have ice cream as well. I will go back. Sometimes there is a farmers market next door. read more

My order on 4/11/18 was very disappointing. I order a togo order. They said it would be ready 1n 15 min. Got to Dotties well within the 15 min. and waited an additional 20 min. for order. I have lived in Etna for over 30 years and been there many times. For me this time, it was not a friendly place to go. Waiting in the dinning area, management came out and told some high schoolers in a loud manner that he was going to mess them up. To me, the kids were just being kids and buying products. I was very uncomfortable. So, I got my order and when I got home, the burger I ordered was not present. Call Dotties and told them what has happened. They said they would give me two burgers for there mistake. Said they would call my home number to remind me of what happen. They did not call. The food that we got was average at best. I paid $26 for a burger (I did not get), Cob salad and a small shake. They did reimburses for the burger after 2 days. If you live outside our area, you are going to be screwed. So if you want to pay high prices in an uncomfortable setting for food you may or may not get, Then Dotties is the place to go. Jack read more

I don't get some of these reviews. In the past year, we've given Dotty's five chances. The food is horrible, no matter how long you wait, the service worse, the prices laughable and the people working in there seem to go out of their way to be unfriendly no matter how big a smile you give them. I hate to give any place a bad review, but there is no upside to going to this place. We will never return. Three times our burgers were RAW, as if they'd been on the grill maybe 20 seconds per side. They're going to make people sick! The fries were under cooked as well, pale, limp and greasy. The malts? Like colored water. It was without a doubt, the worst food we've ever paid good money for. All of it went in the garbage. And after waiting an hour foor the food because it wasn't even started when we went to pick it up. Over $50 for four burgers (which arrived without cheese) and four orders of fries? Seriously? Just goes to show that you can't believe what you read on the Internet. Update: The Etna restaurant. We lived in Reno, before Souix Falls, but travel a lot. Never been to your Reno location. read more

We have usually looked forward to our sports trips to Etna to get a chance to eat at Dotty's. We went today and were surprised by the price and quality. My cheese burger had the paper from the cheese still in the burger. When I was asked about my meal I showed the server the paper, she said sorry and left. We heard her speaking to someone in the back, but that was it. $48 for 3 is us. 1 patty melt, 2 burgers, plus cost for 3 small fries, 2 small shakes and 2 waters. They use to have great burgers and these were not good even without the paper left in the burger. Probably would have been okay if someone would have tried to make it right to give another chance. They didn't seem to care so makes it an easy choice to go elsewhere in the future. read more

Had a Jenner burger. It was supposedly their signature special. The hand formed patty was not noteworthy, being thin and barely covering the bottom bun. I also ordered fries, which were very good. I especially found their fry sauce very tasty. In all, though, it was average. read more

Okay, I'm not writing this review update because the owner contacted me. I have more integrety than that. I'm writitng this review update because I went back to Dotty's recently and it was pretty good. I got a patty melt, which had the option of subbing in a veggie burger, which is awesome. It was delicious. Sure, I'll always miss the giant wooden tables with photos from the old west shellacked onto them and the buckaroo burgers I had growing up, but I also respect the fact that change is part of life and the local burger joint is no exception to that. Still, I want to give credit where credit is due. The folks who bought Dotty's could have torn it down and put in a Starbucks, but they decided to keep the same restaurant that we all know and love, and that's cool. read more

I love Dotty's! The atmosphere is great! When the new owners took over they added some stuff to the menu. Which was exciting for me and my family.
