I've been avoiding writing this review for quite awhile, and that's only because I knew I'd be craving more Kelley's by the time I was done! This little drive-up gem may look like your run-of-the-mill PNW coffee shop from the outside, but on the inside they are magically producing some mighty fine eats. My go-to here is their pulled pork sandwich. I keep telling myself I'll try something else next time...but I always default to the pulled pork. It's tender, juicy, and topped with their zesty homemade BBQ sauce. I love to order it with a side of their impossibly creamy mac 'n cheese and their simmered-for-hours Cowboy beans. It's enough food for lunch AND dinner. Okay, I told you this would happen: I'm craving Kelley's now. Pro tip: order ahead and then pick up, because the wait can get very long (especially during the lunch hour). read more

They're the only barbecue place in Mount Vernon pretty much in all of Skagit County only has 3 bbq spots. They are carry out only and they're only open Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 to 5:00. Nothing special or unique about this place they pretty much offer the same stuff you get anywhere else. All food is already cooked and premade packaged they ask if you want it heated up in microwave or just to go cold and you heat it up yourself. Prices should be cheaper since they don't offer dine in and since they're just serving out of a little trailer box. Portion sizes are below average and their barbecue sauce tastes average nothing unique or special about it tastes like store bought 5 gallon bucket type. I was plesenley surprised that this was decent bbq didn't have very much smoked flavor it was still good they keep it in a steam table witch cooks it to much so it more like chop beef so I would recommend a sandwich both there bbq sauce are good but there cookies are amazing read more

I was in the area for a medical appointment and decided to stop at Kelly's Barbecue for some early dinner. I enjoy pulled pork and was curious to taste Kelly's offering. I did some research by reading other reviews and found that Kelly's offers "spicy sauce"! I am a big fan of spicy food so I was very happy to find out they had a spicy sauce. I chose to order a pulled pork sandwich with spicy sauce and for the included side, I ordered their coleslaw. I was not able to eat my pulled pork sandwich and coleslaw at Kelly's because I had a social appointment I was late for. Imagine my surprise, and delight, when I was able to eat. I was totally unprepared for the fact that my sandwich was unassembled! All the items were present in separate containers waiting for me to add as much or little of each! I was a little saddened I didn't know that right away because I ate the very wonderful and delicious coleslaw while I was driving to my social appointment. I would have loved to put at least a little of the coleslaw on top of the pork. However, the pulled pork definitely did NOT need the extra moistness the coleslaw would have provided. The meat was tasty, juicy, nicely seasoned and delicious! In fact, the sandwich was so moist that I am thankful I am in the habit of eating over a plate. Otherwise I would have had an embarrassing wet spot in the front of my pants! My recommendation is to give this wonderful barbecue place a try and definitely eat your sandwich over the to go container to catch the juice! read more

I had the pork ribs for Rock and my friend has the beef brisket French dip there wasn't anything left he loved it and I really enjoyed my ribs... There is no indoor dining you have to sit out on the picnic tables. The only thing there was a few yellow jackets that wanted to eat my meal. I would definitely come here again. read more

Well let me start this by saying that I am the South, Texas to be exact. I love BBQ and have it all over the country. Actually, if I'm being technical I have eaten it all over the world. I am a chef myself so I have also made BBQ will some pretty amazing folks who know how to produce a technically accurate and delicious, moist and tender product. Having said all that, I happen to be in the La Connor Washington area and came across Kelly's BBQ. Just a small trailer parked in adorable downtown strip of Mount Vernon on Division street. The trailer is decorated and situated well on this vacant lot with a drive up window and a walk up window. Quite cute! Service: I pulled up and was greeted with smiles and courtesy. I was there 20 minutes before closing and I ordered family style, brisket (1lb) and a rack of ribs with 1/2 regular sauce and 1/2 spicy. I don't know if Kelly was one of the women that served me but they were both very cheerful and helpful. The wait time was only a few minutes. Food: The sides I ordered were macaroni and cheese, cowboy beans, and potatoes salad and they were delicious. Excellent cowboy beans, excellent potato salad, macaroni and cheese resembles baked Mac and cheese and is a bit more gooey than I traditionally like but tasted excellent and had a unique flavor that was quite tasty. The Ribs were perfect to me with a nice smoke bark and taste. I love the meaty ends of ribs and quite often they are dry and chewy if overcooked but these were still moist. The overall texture was excellent, chew off the bone and very moist, flavorful, and tender. The brisket was pretty lean, as they trim the fat but taste was also very good. They didn't over spice the brisket and the meat and smoke married well. My only suggestion is that they consider leaving on a bit more fat to protect the brisket and self marinate the meat. Price: Generally the same as most BBQ these days. Good meat isn't cheap and by smoking you lose a considerable amount of the original weight. Nevermind the vigilance required to be good at smoking meat. My bill was $100. I would call this fair by today's standards I don't know where these ladies trained or if they are southern originally or locals but they are on my favorites list. I made two mistakes ordering. I should have tried the cookies and the cornbread that she offered. Next time for sure Do yourself a favor if you are in the area. Better yet, get in the area however you can, Get here by horseback, horse and Buggy, boat, skateboard, bicycle, roller skates, walk or run. Whatever it takes! Get yourself there, eat whatever they cook and be glad they aren't sold out because the meal is worth it. In my adventures, I have surely eaten my weight in BBQ but don't trust me, judge for yourself. I suspect you'll want to thank me and I'll accept by meeting you there! read more

I came to this place having high expectations, but unfortunately left kind of disappointed. This hole-in-the-wall place is located on the North side of W Division St, just West of the river. They have plenty of parking spaces, a drive-thru, and two tables. I ordered two corn breads (which would be more appropriately called corn muffins) and a full rack of ribs. The corn breads were on par with most other BBQ spaces, but nothing special. The rack of ribs were juicy and tender. However, I found the meat to be lacking flavor. Large clumps of fat were also left on the meat, making it way too heavy for my taste. read more

We saw Kelley's while driving through the town for the day and my husband wanted to try it. I'm not a big bbq fan but after reading the great reviews decided to give it a try. My husband got The Branding Iron and said the chicken was superb, he got baked beans for his side and they were super good with a bit of spice to them and meat in them. I ordered the Mac n cheese, it was very good with a hint of garlic and hot n creamy. I also tried a corn bread muffin which was very good. Everything was hot, decent portion sizes, and came out quick. The lady at the window was super friendly and chatty. If your in town and looking for a good bbq drive up this is the place to go. I have been here so many times the food is absolutely delicious, they have quick service and the convenience of a really good little coffee stand in the same parking lot. My favorite thing to order at Kelly's BBQ is the pulled pork sandwich with extra BBQ sauce they provide you all the stuff you need to make the perfect sandwich. I've been there twice now. Both times I've had great service and amazing barbecue. I've tried the ribs, I've tried the brisket, and I tried their chicken. All have been really terrific. The meat prepared at this drive thru or window pick up spot is the best I've tasted, even Texas any where here in Washington. The sides are strong, especially the Cowboy beans. Big chunks of brisket and so very flavorful! Monday through Friday only, so take a break and visit them.they have covered outdoor seating so you can enjoy on site. read more

Solid hole in the wall BBQ! Would have been 5 stars if there was somewhere to wash your hand or wet wipes. But the worker was nice enough to give us wet paper towels. Kelley's has the best BBQ Ribs in Skagit County, there is no contest, they know how to do ribs! Also, the BBQ sauce is so good that I always get an extra cup. The Cornbread Muffins are an extra bonus, they are so incredibly tasty. We stop and get dinner here about once a month, and I always feel like we totally get our moneys worth, I am eating ribs for days, and I hide the leftover muffins (shhhh, don't tell anyone) I love to see thriving business's on the west side of Mount Vernon, Kelley's is such a wonderful addition, I would highly recommend trying it. I am so done. I asked previously whether they would be open today. They said yes. Then they changed their hours... AGAIN! They are often closed due to taking time off for whatever and you do not know until you drive there. I have tried numerous times during business hours only to find it closed. The BBQ pulled pork sandwich here was the best thing I have ever put in my mouth, I'm a huge fan of BBQ when it's done right and this was incredible. The pulled pork was a perfect smoked flavor with the moist and crunchy melt in your mouth texture. This place is the perfect drive through, the components of your sandwich comes separately so you get your bun with your meat and BBQ sauce on the side. Even the meat by itself is so good with or without the sauce, this is my new favorite drive through everything tastes fresh 10/10 will be back! read more

Wowie-Wow-Wow-Wow!!! This is THE BEST BBQ I've ever tasted. So glad I caught it in the corner of my eyes as we were heading towards Burlington Outlet Mall from the Roozengaarde tulip farm. I ordered combo #4 (full rack St. Louis style spare ribs, 1/2 tender chicken, 1 pint cowboy beans, 3 fluffy cornbread muffins, 1/2 pint bbq sauce) for $48.95. The meat were both smoked to perfection. Both were moist, succulent, fall-off-the-bone tender! Their bbq sauce was perfect as well with a tangy, sweet, peppery taste to it, and pairs really well with the bbq meat. I also enjoyed their cowboy beans and is the best I've had so far. It has a perfect balance of sweetness, tanginess, meatiness, and spiciness--so good! I could probably eat the whole pint all by myself. I have a new favorite cornbread--sorry Famous Dave's! The homemade cornbread here was served cold, but I was still blown ways how delicious it was. I'm sure it would have been even better warmed up....I can only imagine. It's a small drive-thru pod with a encased outdoor sitting area that has a long farm style picnic table that can probably sit at least 20 people. There are also tree plants, potted flowers, and a colorful rooster metal art. Great for taking pictures. I would drive all the way up here just to satisfy my hankering for SCRUMPTIOUS BBQ! We LOVE this place!! (Just wish they were open on weekends.) A little ashamed to say that we eat here about once every two weeks. The ribs, chicken, beans and cornbread muffins are out of this world and the staff is always so nice. A little tip: Make sure you call ahead and reserve your food if you're after ribs or chicken though, they do sometimes run out toward the end of the day...yes, it's that good!!! read more

Also came here after visiting the Tulip Fields and whoa...I was not expecting to come across such a great place! After stopping for gas, me and my bf were starving. It was also pouring rain and we wanted to find somewhere quick. We saw this nice little drive thru across the street and decided to check it out. I got the Pulled Pork Sandwich. I wanted to get a side of coleslaw but they were out. They suggested the potato salad and it was indeed pretty awesome. The sandwich was incredible! The bun was toasted and soft, the pork was flavorful and there was BBQ on the side (which I generously mixed in with the pork). So happy we found Kelley's BBQ. My mom and I were in Mt. Vernon to set up for the skagit county garage and antique sale, it became lunch time so we headed out. On the way up from Everett we saw some signs for bbq salmon but off the exit, we couldn't find it. Parking wasn't easy because we had a trailer on the back of the truck for tables so we drove around for awhile, went over a bridge. There we saw a drive thru bbq. & im glad we stopped. Menu wasn't large but had some good choices. Ribs, brisket, chicken. I ordered the Trailboss, 1/4 of a chicken and 2 ribs with a side of cowboy beans, and these are not your normal baked beans, not even close. Also has a sweet iced tea, yum. The chicken was tender and so good. The ribs came with a sauce and that had a kick to it. Real good though. My mom had the brisket sandwich, said it was good. I only wish there would have been more ribs, I love ribs. Great find though! read more

Stopped by right before closing and the young woman was nice enough to let us order! As someone who used to work at a restaurant I know how frustrating that can be but the staff was super nice and the service was fast. We ordered pulled pork sandwiches. One with Mac and the other with baked beans. The pork was a little too salty for our taste but that might have been because we ordered at the end of the day? The Mac and cheese was garlicky and pretty good! My bf did not enjoy the beans but overall it was a good and fast meal. Always happy to support local businesses rather than fast food. read more

Like most great BBQ places, the external appearance has almost a seemingly inverse relationship to the food quality. (Not that it looks bad, it's well maintained, but it is kinda small & not a place one might expect to get such great tasting food) The food here is excellent! They have their own smokers on site & the quality comes through with every bite! Pulled pork, ribs and even the sides of corn bread and cole slaw were all top notch! We had Kelly's BBQ cater an event in our home. The owner, Connie, was so easy to work with - very fast reply on our original email. She invited us to the restaurant to try everything so we could pick favorites. We hired one of the staff, Maddy, to deliver and help serve and clean up. She was incredibly helpful and friendly. Our guests RAVED about the food especially the beans, corn bread, potato salad and the ribs. Prices were very fair and the portions generous. Connie loves what she does and it shows in every aspect of her business. She is true to her word and was an absolute delight. We would hire again in a heartbeat! read more

My wife and I stopped in on our way back to Bellingham after arriving at Sea Tac Airport. She had the brisket sandwich with a side of mac and cheese, I had the Wrangler plate (6 oz of sliced brisket) with a side of "cowboy beans". The restaurant is mainly drive up but they do have a bit of outdoor seating as well. Being how it was a lovely day, we took advantage of the seating. We found the meats to have a nice flavor and weren't the least bit dry. Very easy to chew! My wife LOVES their mac and cheese, says it reminds her of her mom's growing up. I think the cowboy beans have great taste, I added some of my leftover spicy bbq sauce to them and made them even better! Needless to say, we're now big fans of Kelley's BBQ! read more

Very good bbq. We had a horseshoe chicken sandwich and the daily special ("French dip"). Both were good, but the French dip seemed more like an Italian hogie that you'd get at a ball game with sasusage. It had that kind of onions and peppers and cheese, and the onion and pepper was on the overwhelming side. Speaking of sides: really tasty mustardy potato salad, and nice tangy slaw. Lots of good reviews, but the rub is that few in the Pac NW have a clue what constitutes good BBQ. I've been to Kelley's three times now, and I have little compunction to return. Last offering was a pulled-pork sandwich. Meat was lean enough, but virtually no trace of smoked flavor. Seriously, it was like the stuff was scooped out of a crock pot. Meh. Jeff's Texas Style BBQ in Marysville offers much more flavor for around the same price. read more

Solid BBQ. I didn't have much, just the Beef Brisket sandwich and a side of the 'Cowboy Beans.' The Brisket was good, but I have to write that the Cowboy Beans were even better. There was some meat in there (Brisket?), so it really added to the beans. I'll definitely be going back to Kelley's. Whomever was working the drive-up window (Connie?) was extremely personable. My only regret is that I haven't tried Kelley's BBQ sooner! I must drive past Kelley's 6 or 8 times a week. read more
